Seeking the truth about UFOs in America, Mark Pilkington and John Lundberg uncover a 60 year-old story stranger than any conspiracy thriller. Through the fascinating account of their quest Mark Pilkington reveals the long history of UFOria and its parallels in little known tales from the murky worlds of espionage, psychological warfare and advanced military technology. Along the way he discovers that the truth about flying saucers is stranger and more complex than either the ufologists or debunkers would have us believe. As he crossed the US meeting intelligence agents, disinformation specialists and UFO hunters Pilkington was confronted with a dizzying array of ever more outrageous claims and counter claims. As a result he began to suspect that, instead of covering up stories of crashed flying saucers, alien contacts and secret underground bases, the US intelligence agencies had actually been promoting them all along. Meanwhile he has to deal with his own uncertainties, the suspicions of the UFO community and a partner who is starting to believe that conspiracy theorists might be right after all. With a fresh, funny and objective approach, Pilkington is the ideal guide to steer us through these strange territories, where nothing is quite as it seems and reality is just a matter of managing perceptions.

  • Plant Spirit Wisdom – Sin Eaters and Shamans: The Power of Nature in Celtic Healing for the Soul

Collective Ink Plant Spirit Wisdom – Sin Eaters and Shamans: The Power of Nature in Celtic Healing for the Soul

    2 in stock

"Plant Spirit Wisdom" expands on the herbal and shamanic healing practices introduced in "Plant Spirit Shamanism", the author's most recent (2006) and currently best-selling book on traditional plant medicines and techniques for healing the soul. Whereas his previous book takes a cross-cultural perspective, however, "Plant Spirit Wisdom" focuses on the Celtic and native (European and American) use of herbs and plants in spiritual healing. At its core is the wisdom and plant folklore stemming from Welsh and Irish practices, paganism, shamanism, and herbalism, and especially sin eating (a little-known Celtic spiritual practice which works with energy medicine and the spirit - rather than the pharmacology - of herbs and plants). To the sin eater, the soul is a web of energy which connects us to everyone and everything, and this energy can be depleted or lost when we act out of accordance with our spiritual purpose. Plants and spiritual practices are used to rebalance this energy, release old attachments, and repattern ourselves for a more positive and healthier life. The approach is exactly the same as that used by shamans in, for example, the Amazon, the Andes, Haiti, and among Native American healers, and yet little has been written of it from our own native perspective.

Jessica Kingsley Publishers From Like to Love for Young People with Asperger's Syndrome (Autism Spectrum Disorder): Learning How to Express and Enjoy Affection with Family and Friends

    2 in stock

If your child rarely shows you that he or she loves you, it can be profoundly distressing. This is the experience of many parents of children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and most fear that it reflects the truth. In fact the truth has generally more to do with the difficulty that young people with an ASD have in communicating like or love for someone physically and verbally. They may not know how to go about expressing themselves in these ways, or understand that family members and friends can find the absence of demonstrative affection upsetting. This book, by world leading experts Tony Attwood and Michelle Garnett, addresses this issue in practical terms. They provide carefully designed activities for parents to work through with their children to help them to understand and express affection. Their child will learn to identify his or her own and others' comfort and enjoyment range for gestures, actions and words of affection and the different ways to express feelings for someone, appropriate to each relationship and situation. The activities are simple, straightforward, and very carefully structured, so that they can be undertaken at the pace that works for the individual family. The book also guides the adult through the challenges faced by the child, leading to greater understanding and confidence in their relationship with their child, and increased ability to nurture the child's ability to form engaged relationships and friendships with others.Readers of Tony Attwood's previous books will recognise his warm, positive and empowering approach. The book will be a transformative resource for parents and family worried about their child's emotional life.

  • The Long Goodbye: A Memoir

Little, Brown Book Group The Long Goodbye: A Memoir

    1 in stock

Meghan O'Rourke was thirty-two when her mother died of cancer on Christmas Day, 2008. As a writer, even in the depths of her grief, she was fascinated by what she observed of herself in the aftermath: the rage she felt, not only at what had happened to her mother, but also at the inability of people to acknowledge her pain; her sense that the meaning of her life had changed fundamentally with the loss of a parent; the way that the reassuringly familiar often became somehow completely new and strange. The Long Goodbye interleaves personal recollections of her much-loved mother with an examination of what it means to grieve in a society which no longer has the rituals - or even, most of the time, the desire - to engage with grief, to understand it, and to let it do both its worst - and its best.

Many of us hold on to old fears, traumas and stresses and allow them to define and frame our lives. This book shows how to relieve these problems and help you look and feel better on a profound level. Based on the idea that the body is composed of twenty-one important hinges, Meet Your Body shows how we can 'oil' and free these hinges, stretching the body out so we can feel healthy and happy more of the time.Noah's therapeutic work uses a hands-on manipulation of the body's connective tissue designed to enhance posture and freedom of movement. From this theory of structural integration, Karrasch has developed a focus on the inseparable connection between our minds and our bodies, our bodymindcore. Guiding the reader through the various hinges of the body, from the big toe to the hip to the head, the author shows how learning to isolate and stretch these hinges in new ways can lead to a happy bodymindcore, making a great difference to overall health and wellbeing. Each chapter addresses a particular hinge physically as well as sharing ideas about its emotional component, and includes photographs and drawings illustrating a variety of bodymindcore techniques. This book offers people with both ordinary and extraordinary body challenges new ideas for how they can make changes in the way their bodies work for them. For years Howard Storm lived the American dream. He had a fine home, a family, and a successful career as an Art Professor and painter. Then, without warning, he found himself in hospital in excruciating pain, awaiting an emergency operation. He realised with horror that his death was a real possibility, but as an atheist he was convinced that his demise would mark the end of consciousness. Storm was totally unprepared for what was to happen next. He found himself out of his body, staring at his own physical form. But this was no hallucination; he was fully aware and felt more alive than ever before. In his spirit form, Storm was drawn into fearsome realms of darkness and death, where he experienced the terrible consequences of a life of selfishness and materialism. However, his journey also took him into regions of light where he conversed with angelic beings and the Lord of Light Himself, who sent him back to live on earth with a message of love. "My Descent into Death" is Howard Storm's full story: from his near death experience in Paris to his full recovery back home in the States, and the subsequent transformation of his life. Storm also communicates what he learned in his conversations with heavenly spiritual beings, revealing how the world will be in the future, the real meaning of life, what happens when we die, the role of angels, and much more. What he has to say will challenge those who believe that human awareness ends with death.

Nostradamus is widely known as the greatest diviner and visionary who ever lived. In the whole of publishing history, only the Bible has sold more copies than his prophecies, which have been in print since his death on 1 July 1556 – an event he accurately foretold the night before it happened. Using a revolutionary new analysis of the secret dating of Nostradamus’s prophecies, in this, The Complete Prophecies for The Future, Mario Reading reveals startling new interpretations. Is the demise of the British monarchy inevitable? Will Britain leave the EU after all – and will this spell the end of the EU project as a whole? Will there be a Global War – and, if so, what will this mean for the world’s climate? Nostradamus predicted the Twin Towers disaster of 9/11, the 2003 Iraq War, the devastating tsunamis of 2004/5 and the great flood of New Orleans – and he foretold the future for decades to come. Thanks to Mario Reading’s groundbreaking translations and sharp, knowledgable commentaries, readers can now scan the future history of the 21st century – before it happens.

Scholars turn to reproduction for its ability to illuminate the practices involved with negotiating personhood for the unborn, the newborn, and the already-existing family members, community members, and the nation. The scholarship in this volume draws attention to doula work as intimate and relational while highlighting the way boundaries are created, maintained, challenged, and transformed. Intimate labour as a theoretical construct provides a way to think about the kind of care doulas offer women across the reproductive spectrum. Doulas negotiate boundaries and often blur the divisions between communities and across public and private spheres in their practice of intimate labour. This book weaves together three main threads: doulas and mothers, doulas and their community, and finally, doulas and institutions. The lived experience of doulas illustrates the interlacing relationships among all three of these threads. The essays in this collection offer a unique perspective on doulas by bringing together voices that represent the full spectrum of doula work, including the viewpoints of birth, postpartum, abortion, community based, adoption, prison, and radical doulas. We privilege this broad representation of doula experiences to emphasize the importance of a multi-vocal framing of the doula experience. As doulas move between worlds and learn to live in liminal spaces, they occupy space that allows them to generate new cultural narratives about birthing bodies.

  • What Now, Adam?: The Book of Men

Osho International What Now, Adam?: The Book of Men

    1 in stock

After decades in which women have started to take control of their own lives and have stepped out of old roles and restrictions to become independent of men, the focus now turns to men. The question at hand is, “What now Adam?Men's liberation has not happened yet. Not only women but men also need a great liberation movement--liberation from the past, from the slavery of life-negating values and social conditionings that have been imposed upon them for thousands of years."Man needs a new psychology to understand himself,“ says Osho, and the basic understanding that needs to be deeply imbibed and experienced is that no man is just male and no woman is just female; each man is both man and woman, and so is each woman - woman and man. Adam has Eve in him, and Eve has Adam in her. In fact, nobody is just Adam and nobody is just Eve: we are Adam-Eves. This is one of the greatest insights ever attained. But throughout history men have been conditioned to deny and reject their feminine qualities, to suppress their so-called "feminine" responses and feelings, and this has been reflected in the suppression of the female element in the outer world. Unless each man can start to discover his own inner woman, he is going to be tied up in a frustrating search for female qualities on the outside, in the outer woman. Each man needs to reintegrate his feminine qualities in order to become healthy and whole, complete within himself.Unless the individual man starts to come out of his robot-like, mechanical functioning and unawareness and begins to live his life with self-love, awareness, and deep respect for his real nature, there seems to be no chance that our world can escape global suicide."Being a man or being a woman is an accident" says Osho. "Just like being a German or an Indian is an accident, being black or white is an accident – all of these things are not our choices - but you are lost in the accidents! You are too worried about them, your whole time and energy is wasted in them, and you become so occupied with the non-essential that the essential is forgotten."The essential for Osho is what he calls the being – simply the being – which is not accidental, but is destined. Rather than trying to figure out what it is to be a man, Osho suggests to find “that which is absolutely destined. That is your nature, that is your essence.”In his playful and insightful way Osho looks at all of the different facets of the varying roles men play, showing how these qualities have shaped and influenced society. He shows how energies that are so often channeled into aggression and negativity can be transformed into creativity and personal evolution, and provides meditative techniques as a practical aid to moving through this process. The book functions as a mirror, using common archetypes to structure the wealth of material that is available from Osho on the subject of Men's Liberation. These archetypes - Adam, The Robot, The Beggar, The Lover, The Politician, The Gambler, The Creator, and so on - should not be understood as fixed types of character or personality but simply useful descriptions of certain tendencies, conditionings, and trained behavior patterns of the personality, common to all of us.As Osho indicates, our reality lies beyond all these stereotypes and categories. The archetypal concepts are used to help us recognize our particular mind-sets and then move beyond the mind’s limitations and confinements. To go beyond the personality and discover the original face, the real and essential self.

The Alexander Technique (AT) is a remarkably simple but powerful method for learning to skillfully control how your brain and body interact, allowing you to better coordinate your movements while increasing the accuracy of your mind's thoughts and perceptions. Now, in How You Stand, How You Move, How You Live , leading Alexander Technique master teacher Missy Vineyard sheds a completely fresh light on this revolutionary method and, in the process, offers path-breaking insight into the mind-body connection. Vineyard thoroughly explains and teaches the central skills of the AT through simple self-experiments, and she offers engaging stories of students in their lessons to show its effective application across a range of disciplines, including the performing arts, athletics, health, psychology, and education. How You Stand, How You Move, How You Live introduces us to a world within ourselves that we know surprisingly little about- and thereby helps us to understand why we often cannot do what we should be able to do, why we harm ourselves with chronic tension and anxiety, and why our thoughts often seem beyond our control. Vineyard is also the first AT teacher to draw on cutting-edge research in neuroscience and to synthesize those findings with AT theories and techniques. She fully illuminates the benefits to be reaped by mastery of the Alexander Technique, which include: Release from acute or chronic physical pain Enhanced mental attention and focus Reduced anxiety Improved balance and coordination Relief from tension and stress Increased ease and efficiency performing precise movement skills

Tapping, or Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), is a simple form of acupressure that treats the energetic roots of emotional and physical suffering. By tapping on specific meridian points you can quickly and easily dissolve blockages in the body’s energy system, caused by past traumas and suppressed emotions such as grief and anger, and restore the natural flow of energy in your body, the key to optimal health and overall well-being. In this step-by-step guide to EFT, Sophie Merle details the practice of tapping, illustrating the easily accessible points on the face, hands, and torso to tap and in what order. Explaining how to open your energetic system to EFT treatment for fast and long-lasting results, she reveals how the energetic psychology of tapping can be applied to any area of your life but is particularly effective for emotional and psychological conditions, including panic attacks, anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief, anger, jealousy, and phobias, such as stage fright or fear of flying, providing immediate results in many cases. She also shows how this method can treat chronic pain, nausea, and headaches; alleviate insomnia and nightmares; assist physical healing from illness; encourage the release of painful memories; boost self-confidence; support weight loss; and improve concentration.

  • Helping Your Child With Selective Mutism: Practical Steps to Overcome a Fear of Speaking

New Harbinger Publications Helping Your Child With Selective Mutism: Practical Steps to Overcome a Fear of Speaking

    3 in stock

Often described as 'social phobia's cousin' and misdiagnosed as autism, selective mutism is a debilitating fear of speaking in some situations experienced by some children. The disorder usually presents in children before the age of five, but it may not be recognized until the child starts school. When requested to speak, children with selective mutism often look down, blush, or otherwise express anxiety that disrupts their engagement with people and activities. Selective mutism is related to social anxiety and social phobia, and more than 90 percent of children with selective mutism also manifest symptoms of one of these problems. This book is the first available for parents of children with selective mutism. It offers a broad overview of the condition and reviews the diagnostic criteria for the disorder. The book details a plan you can use to coordinate professional treatment of your child's disorder. It also explains the steps you can take on your own to encourage your child to speak comfortably in school and in his or her peer group. All of the book's strategies employ a gradual, 'stepladder' approach. The techniques gently encourage children to speak more, while at the same time helping them feel safe and supported.
