A Rolex conveys many things: a luxury timepiece, a tool of power for movers and shakers and the symbol of passage into adulthood. New labels pop up, styles come and go, but the brand at the top never changes. Ever the record setter—the Daytona that had belonged to Paul Newman was auctioned by Phillips in New York in October 2017 for $17.8 million— it comes as no surprise that Rolex is the most collected watch brand in the world. The Vintage Watch Company is the only store of its kind in the world, with a devoted client base of devoted Rolex aficionados, from royalty to sporting legends to stars of the silver screen. It is over 150 pages long and the authors manage to cram a great deal of information into its pages. The book is highly illustrated with very clear photographs and the writing style is concise and informative - overall a very useful book for any jewellery maker to have in their library. The book is unusual in that it covers both beading and metalworking. Most books on these subjects stick to one or the other because the tools and techniques are so different. But those who enjoy making bead jewellery often want to move on into metalworking of various kinds so this book covers that transition neatly. The two authors are each specialists in their own type of jewellery making - Sara Withers in beading and Xuella Arnold in metalworking - so each subject is covered by and expert in the field. In all, this is a beautifully written and illustrated book and really does manage to cover a huge range of techniques that will be enjoyed by many. Beginners will find it an excellent primer with a very wide sweep while advanced metalworkers will find it fills gaps in their knowledge and shows some new and interesting ways of improving their techniques. * Bead Society For Great Britain *Table of ContentsPrelims 5 Introduction 2 Metal Jewelry Basics 20 Working with Metal 48 Simple Jewelry Designs 16 Threading and Finishing 28 Using Wire and Metal 26 Experimenting with New Materials 10 Index and Creditsn5

ACC Art Books Bulgari: Treasures of Rome
Book SynopsisA jewel is more than an arrangement of precious stones - it is a story. This is the principle on which Vincent Meylan, author of Christie's: The Jewellery Archives Revealed, Boucheron: The Secret Archives, Van Cleef & Arpels: Treasures and Legends, and Mellerio: Jewellers to the Queens of Europe, has written his latest book. Now, with unparalleled access to the Bulgari archives, Meylan guides us on an intimate journey through the lives of the clients, both famous and infamous, who have given this pre-eminent Mediterranean jeweller their patronage. Paris may be the traditional home of the jeweller elite, but Bulgari embraces its Roman origins. From their early creations, inspired by Byzantine and Islamic architecture, to designs like the Trombino ring and Serpenti bracelets, which are still relevant today, Bulgari gracefully navigates the line between contemporary and timeless. Their client roster reflects their prestige. Nobility and celebrity intermingle; the Countess di Frasso shopped at Bulgari with her Hollywood superstar-beau, Gary Cooper, as did the Infanta Beatriz of Spain and Princess Maria José of Belgium. Richard Burton wooed Elizabeth Taylor with glittering Bulgari jewels, while the decadent marriage of Tyrone Power and Linda Christian featured Bulgari wedding rings. But these jewels tell tales of many genres, not just romance: from exiled Iranian Shahs to Count Cini of Monselice, held for ransom by the SS and released in exchange for Bulgari jewels. Each story is retold with Vincent Meylan's characteristic verve, embellished with original pictures from the archives. Chapters are dedicated to wealthy customers, but also to the stones themselves, tracing the evolution of this iconic Roman company through history, and the development of their jewellery from mine, to workshop, to model.

But locked away in the buried history of the British Isles are other, far richer and more nuanced, stories; and these hidden tales paint a picture very different from the ferocious pillagers of popular repute. In this book, Eleanor Parker unlocks secrets that point to more complex motivations within the marauding army that in the late-9th century voyaged to the shores of eastern England in its sleek, dragon-prowed longships. In this inspiring book, well-known crafter Sara Naumann shows you just how easy and quick resin jewellery is to make, using minimal equipment and readily available products, and provides over 50 fabulous projects for you to try. You can add numerous items to the resin to achieve different effects. You can place paper in the bezels to act as a background to the resin – such as old book paper, map paper, scrapbook paper and photographs. Paper can also be painted, stencilled, or layered with washi tape before being coated with resin. Try sheet music for a vintage vibe, or origami papers for a fresh, contemporary look. In addition, you can also immerse various items in the resin before it cures, such as dried flowers and leaves, feathers, shells, beads and charms, or try adding glitter, coloured inks, nail polish and virtually anything else you can think of. The versatility of resin jewellery is awe-inspiring, providing papercrafters as well as jewellery-makers with all the skills and inspiration they need to design and make their own stunning pieces. Trade ReviewLove this book. Am a total beginner but this book takes the time to explain everything to you simply and clearly. Gathering pieces to use is just as much fun! -- Emma Hunt * Customer Review *Sara Naum, ann is a papercrafting designer who has been in the art and craft industry for 20 years. This book is designed to introduct you as a beginner to the different projects which can be done with resin. Overall the projects are well photographed, clearly illustrating the descriptive techniques for each project which helps to follow the instructions. Overall this book illustrates very well the many uses of resin and some very inspiring projects for a beginner. It is informative and simple to follow. * The Bead Society Journal *Resin jewellery is very easy to make and the technique is incredibly versatile. Popular craft author Sara Naumann shows you how to make beautiful pieces of jewellery for men and women, using simple techniques and inexpensive materials. Great fun and quick to make you can add paper, fabric, photographs, shells, dried flowers, nail polish and more to the resin, producing professional-looking and stylish pieces that are totally unique. There are more than 50 projects to inspire you to create your own resin jewellery for yourself, or as gifts for family and friends. Ideal for beginners and more experienced crafters, prepare to become addicted! * Creative Hobbies *Anybody who has ever mixed two-component epoxy glue has already got the required skill to make beautiful jewelry from resin. For foolproof tips, what else to add to the mix and fifty projects this book will tell you the rest. I learned how to do this surprisingly simple and fun craft at the age of about eight with a kit. There are some safety precautions to follow as this is a toxic substance but once you know how to use it (and you already will if you are familiar with epoxy) the rest is fairly easy. This might make it sound boring, but it is an extremely versatile medium that can make some professional looking pieces and is a great way of recycling and upcycling all kinds of materials. The first part of the book deals with what you need and how to do the basics, troubleshooting, using paper, beads, findings etc and the rest is devoted to the projects. Before you get to them there is the excellent feature of a double page spread showing thumbnails of all of them so you can see at a glance what would interest you. These are arranged in four categories: using paper, coloring agents, powder inclusions and 3-D inclusions covering most basic aspects of this craft. Each project covers a page and features a large photograph of the finished item, a list of materials and tools plus the instructions as well as a basic description. This tells you a bit about the piece and also what you will learn by making it. Items used include all kinds of papers including wrapping paper, old books and paper napkins, coloring with things like nail polish, paint and ink, adding glitter, flitter and embossing powder and embedding elements such as old watch parts, presed flowers and shells. Most of the pieces are made using findings with frames and bezels but the final section shows how you can repurpose things like odd game tiles, flat metal shapes and even just a plastic sheet for freeform work. In short, this book manages to show how simple and fun resin work is and it is great to see a book on such an overlooked subject. My tip to beginners is get a kit first and you will have all you need to get started. * myshelf.com *I was initially struck by the picture on the front of this book. Just my style of pretty and stylish jewellery. I'm a bit craft fan and I have bookcases full of craft books I have bought because I liked the cover project. 90% of those books I have never used despite the initial 'i can't live without this book' feeling that I seem to fall for time and time again . Happily I can report that almost every project in this book is on my to do list. I have already sourced the best deals on resin and the equipment need to complete the projects and even though it's only March I have planned many of my Christmas gifts. The book has every bit of information need to complete the projects and a great trouble shooting section. Even if you aren't an experienced crafter I am convinced you will be inspired to take resin jewellery making to new levels using everything from glitter to feathers for pendants, earrings and bracelets that will get your friends and family asking where you bought them. I'm excited to start and I'm sure you will be too. -- Belinda Bentley * Customer Review *I have never made resin jewellery before, but being a crafty person this book was right up my street. A craters dream!I can't wait to give it a try -- Sharon Rutherford * Customer Review *working with resin was never something I thought about until I came across this book. My job is working with jewellery but as I am currently on maternity leave I do not have the equipment to carry on at home. This book has shown me some great tips and tricks to make resin jewellery at home fairly inexpensively! I read through the book in one sitting and have a list of resin, bezels and inks to work through some of these projects. If you are looking for a book to make resin jewellery I recommend this, the step by step instructions are easy to understand and the finished pieces look great -- Jade Nuttall * Customer Review *As a newcomer to resin, I was hoping for a book that would both inspire and teach me. I was not disappointed. Apart from the obvious instructions in how to carry out each project, the author has added loads of tips which will helped enormously. The techniques section is clear and jargon free so that I never felt out of my comfort zone. Fabulous photography throughout makes this a lovely book to browse through too. There are enough projects to inspire and each has step by step instructions. I would definitely recommend this to anyone considering making resin jewellery. -- Lilly Roskell * Customer Review *I have used resin before but not for jewellery and my approach was based on knowledge gleaned from random videos on a well-known online platform! Having this book in front of me has been a revelation. The instructions are clear and concise. Lots of good photos when you need them and plenty of good tips to overcome the inevitable hiccups such as air bubbles. Resin does one job (but does it very well) so it’s interesting to see ways to stretch that out into a variety of projects and finishes. This book builds up techniques from scratch, leading you into gradually more complicated and lengthy procedures, covering any possible hitches along the way. I suspect anyone doing resin jewellery would want to eventually experiment with their own style and so the gallery provides inspiration, broadening out the knowledge in order to reach that end. -- Sass Tetzlaff * Customer Review *Table of ContentsIntroduction 6 Tools and Materials 8 What is Resin? 10 Troubleshooting 20 Paper Techniques 22 The Projects Using Paper 30 Scrapbook paper 32 Map paper 34 Book paper 36 Origami paper 38 Napkin and tissue paper 40 Washi tape and paper 42 Stamping 44 Heat embossing 46 Inkpad press 48 Image transfer paper 50 Mylar sheets 52 Fabric 54 Colouring Agents 56 Glitter Glue 58 Alcohol Ink 60 Nail polish 62 Acrylic Paint 64 Powder Inclusions 66 Enamelling powder 68 Pigment Powder 70 Clear Fine Glitter 72 German Glass Glitter 74 Embossing powder 76 3-D Inclusions 78 Megaflake 80 Buttons and watch parts 82 Natural inclusions 84 No-bezel Jewellery 86 Wooden shapes 88 Game pieces 90 Freeform Pieces 92 Commercial Moulds 94 Index 96

Skyhorse Publishing King of Diamonds: Harry Winston, the Definitive
Book SynopsisEnter the glamorous domain of world-famous jewellery house, Harry Winston, and discover the true rags-to-riches story of the immigrant family behind the phenomenon. Harry Winston’s famous slogan for his success was: “knowledge, courage, and the ability to finance.” King of Diamonds: The Flawless World of Harry Winston is the quintessential rags-to-riches success story of a very poor immigrant family emigrating from Ukraine to America. It is the story of how one man, Harry Winston, created a famous name with his company, founded in New York City in 1932. Winston became known for the owning and sales of very large diamonds. At one point, he owned a third of the world’s most famous gems, including the Hope Diamond, which earned him the moniker “King of Diamonds.” The book details how author Ronald Winston’s father got his start and began what would eventually become the most famous jewellery house in the world. Peek inside his first office, an upstairs Fifth Ave location, followed by subsequent locations in Rockefeller Centre, an office across from St. Patrick's Cathedral, and finally an image-building store on Fifth Avenue. Known as the “Jewelleer to the Stars,” Winston’s gems have appeared both on the Hollywood red carpet and in famous Hollywood films like Notorious starring Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant, The Graduate starring Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft, and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. Celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Viola Davis, Helen Mirren, Gwyneth Paltrow, and many more have worn Winston pieces on Hollywood’s biggest nights. The story then follows Harry Winston’s successor and heir, Ronald Winston, and his making of the family name. Under Ronald, the company’s name would not remain just famous, but would become world-famous. Ronald built locations in Los Angeles, Hawaii, Japan, and China. Ronald’s saga continued with his entry into the revolution in Angola, buying diamonds from its charismatic leader, Jonas Savimbi. Ronald Winston risked his life in order to make profits that repaid the death taxes caused by his father’s passing. In all, King of Diamonds is a joyous evocation of two men who added an innumerable amount to the image, story, and marketing of luxury products, as well as to the joy of people who love and purchase these objects. After all, as frequent Winston jewellery-wearer Marilyn Monroe would say, “diamonds are a girl’s best friend.”Trade Review“A thrilling tale of entrepreneurship and an enthralling look into one of the jewelry industry's most famous self-made men.”—Instore (the magazine for the American jewelry store owner) “Winston pulls back the curtain to reveal the man behind the iconic brand. A story about family love, loyalty, and a shattering betrayal.”—Sally Mann, bestselling author of Hold Still: A Memoir with Photographs “You can’t judge a book by its cover, but you can certainly judge one by its title. And King of Diamonds says it all. Published 65 years after famed jeweler Harry Winston donated the 45-carat Hope Diamond to the Smithsonian Institution, his only living son, Ronald Winston, has penned a biography that offers an enlightening glimpse into the life of a man who once owned a third of the world’s most famous gems. Replete with stories about all of the business rivalries, red-carpet loans, and high-profile clients you could ask for, it’s as glamorous as nonfiction gets.” —Natural Diamonds “When I find myself dreaming of diamonds, which happens from time to time, I think ‘Harry Winston.’ Ron dressed me in Harry Winston jewels when I hosted the Oscars, and Miss Piggy and I were draped in a bajillion dollars’ worth of them when we sang our rendition of ‘Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.’ Ron’s love for his father—and the company they built—as well as his wicked sense of humor shine through. King of Diamonds is an important biography and a great read.” —Whoopi Goldberg “King of Diamonds is a slick, deep dive into the world of pure money: the diamond business and the greatest American purveyor of this rarest of gems. Harry Winston’s life was one long extravaganza, like living inside a Fabergé egg. The saga of his rise and his son’s losing battle to save his legendary emporium is a tale of obsession, daring, deception, and a life beyond the dreams of avarice.” —John Lahr, author of Tennessee Williams: Mad Pilgrimage of the Flesh

ACC Art Books Georgian Jewellery: 1714-1830
Book SynopsisGeorgian Jewellery is a celebration of the style and excellence of the eighteenth century, and of the ingenuity that produced such a wealth of fabulous jewellery. Heavy academic tomes have already been written about the period, but this book examines it in a more colourful and accessible way. The book aims to show that Georgian jewellery is not only the stuff of museums and safe boxes, but that it can be worn as elegantly and fashionably today as it was 200 years ago. Much disparate information about the jewellery has been gathered together and the period is brought alive by portraits and character sketches of famous Georgians in their finery, fashion tips, gossip, and some rather outrageous cartoons of the time, as well as fascinating recently discovered facts. With information on how to identify, buy and repair pieces, this sumptuously illustrated volume contains the largest single catalogue of 18th Century jewellery.Trade Review“This is the bible of Georgian jewelry and the only book published solely on the topic. Arnoldsche Jewellery in Context: A Multidisciplinary
Book SynopsisJewellery in Context is the doctoral dissertation, edited by Theo Smeets in its first English translation, by the Dutch art historian and design critic Marjan Unger (1946-2018). In this work she initially endeavours to formulate a general definition of jewellery. Yet above all she also analyses to what extent jewellery is associated, across the globe, with different, sometimes contrary issues: all human fears, but also desires, have, in a sense, materialised as objects of adornment, she postulates. This comprehensive approach aimed not least at developing a solid theoretical framework to aid the study of jewellery. Thus the text can already be seen as an outright standard reference work, indispensable for all students of jewellery. However, experts, too, will discover new perspectives on the phenomenon of jewellery. Contents: Foreword - Theorems; 1. Introduction; 2. Definitions and classifications; 3. Art history as foundation for the study of jewellery; 4. Man as measure; 5. Angles from other disciplines; 6. Symbolism in jewellery; 7. Evaluation; 8. ACC Art Books Adorning Fashion: The History of Costume
Book SynopsisCostume jewellery is commonly understood to mean fashionable yet affordable adornments made from non-precious material. Originating in in mid-1700s France with the rise of the bourgeoise, the earliest 'costume jewellery' mimicked fine jewellery styles. Since then, costume jewellery has always been evolving. From Victorian sentimentalism to the mass-produced ornaments available today, costume jewellery has developed into an artform in its own right. An encyclopaedic study of its history is long overdue. Flush with expert information, identification tips and historical anecdotes, Adorning Fashion explores the development of costume jewellery across the past four centuries. The styles of each era - Victorian, Edwardian, Arts & Crafts, Jugenstil, Art Nouveau, and each decade of the twentieth century - are given individual attention. Production methods are also explained in depth. Alloys and gilded electroplating can mimic silver and gold, while the refraction index of treated glass can, to the untrained eye, be mistaken for diamond. Adorning Fashion discusses the contributions of a remarkable roster of designers and innovators, including Kokichi Mikimoto, Arthur L. Liberty, Carlo Giuliano, René Lalique, Elizabeth Bonté, the Castellani brothers, Jean Fouquet, Jean Després, Fulco di Verdura, Jean Schlumberger, Salvador Dalí, Miriam Haskell, Lina Baretti, Countess Cissy Zoltowska, Line Vautrin, Kenneth Jay Lane, Francisco Rebajes, Diane Love, Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Chanel, Van Cleef & Arpels, Paco Rabanne, Yves Saint Laurent, Napier, Haskell, Trifari, Brania, Bulgari, Versace and more.Trade Review'You will find full-page photos of jaw-dropping pieces that challenge your eye as to whether the pieces are real or not. Identification tips and historical anecdotes are given throughout the book. This is a wonderful gift for those who love to be pleasantly surprised' -- Forbes.com"The book serves as a thorough overview and discusses the contributions of a remarkable roster of designers and innovators, from Salvador Dalí to Balenciaga and Versace." -- Tatler“From the outset, costume jewellery paralleled the styles of its more precious counterparts…In her beautifully illustrated, fact-filled book author Deanna Farneti Cera offers a comprehensive guide to the topic.” -- Phyllis Schiller, Rapaport Magazine.

ACC Art Books Fashion Jewellery: Made in Italy
Book SynopsisIn Italy there has always been a tradition of making jewellery from semi-precious metal, as copies or prototypes of fine jewellery. Fashion Jewellery: Made in Italy moves chronologically through the last 100 years, with pieces from the beginning of the 20th century, through to the years spent under fascist rule, when jewellery had to be strictly made with local material such as wood, cork, straw, venetian glass and coral. The 50s and 60s allowed for the very first big names in fashion jewellery to arise: Giuliano Fratti, Emma Caimi Pellini, Sharra Pagano, Ugo Correani, Coppola e Toppo, Luciana de Reutern, Canesi, Ornella... The book reserves a special place for an important phenomenon that took place in Milan at the end of the 1970s - "Made in Italy" - when Italian fashion entered (and dominated) the international scene, and Italian designers such as Armani, Versace, Ferré, and later on, Moschino and Prada found incredible success all over the world. Throughout the 80s and 90s, and well into the year 2000 further names in fashion jewellery were pushed to the fore: Carlo Zini, Angela Caputi, Maria Calderara, Giorgio Vigna, Fabio Cammarata, Emilio Cressoni, Robert Tomas, Irene Moret, Silvia Beccaria, among others. The final section of the book is devoted to new talents, selecting ten designers whose jewels are particularly interesting and innovative. Famous houses that the jewellery was made for include: Bijoux Bozart, Biki, Carlo Zini, Chanel, Chloé, Coppla E Toppo, Edoardo Saronni, Emilio Pucci, Etro, Fiorucci, Flos Ad Florem, Gianfranco Ferré, Giorgio Armani, Giuliano Fratti, Irene Galitzine, Karl Lagerfeld, Luciana De Reutern, Marni, Missoni, Misterfox, Moschino, Prada, Roberto Capucci, Schiaparelli, Sharra Pagano, Ugo Correani, Unger, Valentino, Versace.

Book SynopsisEngravers Gerd and Patrick Dreher are famous the world over for their masterly animal figures, each of which is cut from a single gemstone. In the early twentieth century, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather all cut gemstones for Faberge - mostly agate but also ruby, obsidian, aquamarine, citrine and rock crystal. Today, creations are still being meticulously made by hand using traditional techniques. The realistic miniature forms of mice, snails, toads, monkeys and hippos are designed by the two artists in multilayered and coloured gemstones so that, for example, the faces, palms of the hand or soles of the feet shine in an iridescent red-brown agate while the bodies are worked in the glossy deep black part of the stone. These unique engravings are today some of the rarest examples of the highest quality in craftsmanship, and represent fascination of the highest cultural degree in a world of increasing globalisation.

Arnoldsche Private Confessions: Drawings & Jewellery
Book SynopsisThe multifarious relationships between drawing and jewellery constitute a largely unknown aspect of contemporary art jewellery. Private Confessions, the first publication on this topic, therefore focuses on graphic work by well-known and aspiring artists, opening up new perspectives through its juxtaposition with jewellery objects. In addition, it also deals with drawing as an artistic action and as autonomous expression, transgressing disciplinary boundaries through experimental expansion and the pursuit to broaden familiar terrain. ACC Art Books Faberge in London: The British Branch of the
Book SynopsisRoyalty, Aristocrats, American heiresses, exiled Russian Grand Dukes, Randlords, Maharajas, Socialites and Financiers with newly made fortunes flocked to Fabergé in London to buy gifts for each other. The Imperial Russian Goldsmith's London branch was the only one outside of Russia and its jewelled and enamelled contents were as popular there as they were in St. Petersburg or Moscow. Using previously unreferenced sources and a newly discovered archive of papers relating to Fabergé in London, Kieran McCarthy studies the branch's structure, customers and exclusive stock. The book will be of interest to enthusiasts of the decorative arts, the social history of the Edwardian Golden Age and especially of European Royalty. Fabergé's works were and continue to be intimately associated with the British Royal Family. For Violet Trefusis, daughter of King Edward VII's mistress Mrs. Keppel and lover of Vita Sackville-West, a Fabergé cigarette case was the emblem of Royalty, as symbolical as the 'bookies' cigar', or the 'ostler's straw'.
