Skyhorse Publishing The History of Browning Firearms: A Complete
Book SynopsisA captivating and wonderfully illustrated chronicle of one of the most influential and legendary names in gunsmithing history. John M. Browning was born in Ogden, Utah, in 1855, into a world of gunsmithing. His father was a gunsmith who was already well known for a number of innovations in the field. As a young boy, John spent hours in his father's shop and allegedly knew the name of every part of a gun before he could read. It's hardly surprising that at age twenty-three, he was filing his first patent for the "J. M. Browning Single-Shot Rifle." Browning inherited his father’s gun making shop, and with funds of less than a thousand dollars, developed it into a highly successful business that developed several iconic firearms including the Colt Peacemaker. Browning also cooperated with Winchester to develop a whole range of small arms including semi-automatic pistols, single-shot rifles, repeater rifles, and machine guns. His enthusiasm and creativity have led many to believe he is the greatest firearm designer of all time. This fascinating book describes the Browning history, and in addition to covering the full range of inventions and designs, also shows various gun-making artifacts, copies of designers' drawings, and interesting photographs of the weapons in the hands of users. The History of Browning Firearms makes a perfect addition to the libraries of Wild West buffs and firearms enthusiasts.

HarperCollins Publishers Little Constructions
Book SynopsisThe second novel from Anna Burns, critically acclaimed author of the Man Booker winning novel, Milkman'Brilliant I can't remember the last time I read prose so profound and so punchy' Daily TelegraphAn irate woman bursts into the best gun shop in the town of Tiptoe Floorboard, helps herself to a Kalashnikov rifle and sets off in a taxi on her mission of retribution. So begins this kaleidoscopic, surreal and enigmatic tale of dark deeds in a small town.At the centre of Anna Burns's startling new novel lies the Doe clan, a closely knit family of criminals and victims whose internal conflicts and convoluted relationships propel this simultaneously funny and terrifying story. Bound together by love and loyalty, fear and secrets, the Does and other inhabitants of Tiptoe Floorboard make up an unforgettable cast of characters. In a voice that is by turns chilling and wickedly funny, the narrator documents their struggle to make and maintain connections with each other, and weaving back and Trade Review‘The writing is energetic, convoluted and courageous. It has a gutsy nervousness that matches the subject matter, as if there is no way to write about violence and violation other than with comedy, digression, wordplay and other peculiarities. She gets across her disgust for senseless, needless violence of the Bush/Blair/Northern Irish or merely familial kind, while being pretty damn funny about it at the same time.’ Guardian 'A brilliant second novel…I can't remember the last time I read prose so profound and so punchy, at once scattergun and forensic. It's like the ink's been made from gunpowder. And every line leaves a darkly sparkling residue that you won't be able to wash off.' Daily Telegraph 'Anna Burns second novel is supremely gritty and clever, and draws the reader relentlessly into the story.' Telegraph ‘An often disturbing story, “Little Constructions” is about the (mis)fortunes of the Does, a marauding clan of criminals and damaged children.’ Vogue 'Another powerful second novel by Belfast-born writer, Anna Burns. Displaying the same dark bite and startling humour as her first, “Little Constructions” explodes into tangents from the opening scene of a woman storming into a small town gunshop and demanding a weapon. ' Irish Mail on Sunday 'This is probably the antithesis of the classic holiday novel which is no bad thing in itself. Bold, funny and unrelenting.' Sunday Business Post 'At the centre of Anna Burns' novel lies the Doe clan, a closely-knit family of criminals and victims whose internal conflicts and convoluted relationships propel this simultaneously funny and terrifying story. When unspeakable realities break through, the tale is chilling – and funny.' Belfast Telegraph

Between 1855 and 1861 six million arms were testing and proofed here - many of them destined for the USA. Skyhorse Publishing The Illustrated Catalog of Rifles and Shotguns:
Book SynopsisA complete compendium of rifles and shotguns through the ages. A "rifled" firearm is one in which the projectile is made to spin as it travels up the bore. The term "rifle," however, was originally applied to muskets to differentiate them from the earlier smoothbore weapons and is used today to designate the infantryman's personal weapon, fired from the shoulder or the hip, or, in some modern weapons, from a bipod. The rifle has also been used by sportsmen to kill larger game and was also used as a working tool by cowboys and trappers during the period of Western Expansion. It progressed from being a muzzle-loader to a breechloading, bolt-operated weapon, then to a semi-automatic weapon, and finally to a lightweight "assault rifle." The emphasis throughout these developments has been in increasing the rate of fire, reducing the weight and making the weapons more accurate, simpler to fire, more reliable, and easier to maintain. The shotgun is a smoothbore weapon originally developed as a hunting device for killing fast moving, flying or running prey. Loaded with shot (many small projectiles) the chances of hitting a moving target was greatly enhanced. Like the rifle, the shotgun has undergone similar progression from muzzle-loader to breechloader, bolt action, and finally semi-automatic mode. The weapon has also seen military use in trench warfare and special operations as well as riot suppression by the police. The Illustrated Catalog of Rifles and Shotguns shows the reader over 500 longarms of all types form the early flintlocks of the revolutionary period, the percussion cap rifles and repeaters of the Civil War, the famous rifles and shotguns of the Wild West, the standard infantry rifles of two World Wars, to the present day with Assault Rifles, and combat shotguns, together with state-of-the-art sporting rifles and shotguns. Each entry has a color photo along with a description and a technical specification. It is arranged in alphabetical order within five historical periods: Historic, Civil War, The Frontier, Two World Wars, and Modern, plus a separate comprehensive Shotgun section.

Aristotle considered the possession of arms a fundamental source of political power and wrote that tyrants ""mistrust the people and deprive them of their arms."" Today ownership of weapons - whether handguns or military-grade assault weapons - poses more acute legal problems than ever before. In this volume, the editors' introduction traces the history of gun control in the United States, arguing that until the 1980s courts upheld reasonable gun control measures. The contributors confront urgent questions, among them the usefulness of history as a guide in ongoing struggles over gun regulation, the changing meaning of the Second Amendment, the perspective of law enforcement on guns and gun control law, and individual and relational perspectives on gun rights. The contributors include the editors and Carl T. Bogus, Jennifer Carlson, Saul Cornell, Darrell A.H. Miller, Laura Beth Nielsen, and Katherine Shaw.

Shooter’s Bible Guide to Extreme Iron is a comprehensive collection of all of the most extreme guns and cannons both in history and in the present. With poetic and flowing prose, author Stan Skinner provides information for awe-inspiring weapons, such as: Hand cannons, also known as “howdah pistols,” which were used on the Indian subcontinent by tiger hunters on elephants’ backs and today roar and thunder with power rarely seen in a handgun Ultra big bore snipers, the roots of which reach back to the Revolutionary War and the Kentucky rifle Gatling guns, a hand-cranked, rapid-fire gun invented by Dr. Richard J. Gatling in 1861, a modern version of which is powered by an electric motor and has a four thousand–round-per-minute cyclic rate Muzzle-loading, smoothbore cannons, cast in bronze and iron, which dominated land and sea warfare until they were made obsolete by rifle Parrott guns and breech-loading cannons in the Civil War And much more! Get fired up with the powerful weapons included in this addition to the Shooter’s Bible. Including historical facts and modern versions, this book is essential to any shooter’s collection.Trade Review"With chapters devoted to express rifles, hand cannons, night vision optics, big-bore sniper rifles, machine guns, field artillery and more, the Shooter's Bible Guide to Extreme Iron introduces readers to many of the gun world's most exclusive niches. The book also sheds light on some of the rarest, most expensive and heavily regulated segments of the firearms market. --American Rifleman"I’ve known Stan Skinner for a lot of years and it’s safe to say, if there’s anything out there that shoots, he’s probably shot it. Most of us will never have access to the types of exotic hardware Stan has had his hands on, but with his Guide to Extreme Iron: An Illustrated Reference to Some of the World’s Most Powerful Weapons, from Hand Cannons of Field Artillery, he’s given us armchair aficionados the next best thing. Express rifles, submachine guns, heavy machine guns, Gatling guns, miniguns, suppressed firearms- even field artillery pieces such as the Parrot Rifle of Civil War fame are featured. If you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s like to cut loose with a drum-fed Lewis Gun or 7.62x25 Russian PPSh-41, it’s all here. Stan covers the biggest and baddest in handguns in the appropriately titled Hand Cannons” chapter. And his chapter on submachine guns covers stalwarts from the legendary Thompson, M3 Grease Gun,” German MP-40 on up to a true machine pistol”- a select-fire 9mm Glock 18. In fact, if you are seriously interested in owning Class III weaponry your own self,” there’s a chapter that lays the application process out in step-by-step details. But you’d best have a case of wallet overload” if you’re serious- a couple of bursts with a .50 BMG M2 Ma Deuce” will easily set you back a car payment or three. And that’s not even getting anywhere close to counting the initial tariff on Browning’s unsurpassed heavy MG platform itself. The chapter on suppressed and night-vision firearms is very timely in view of their increasing popularity. Not to mention the utility of such combos in fulfilling hog-eradication duties in places like Texas. Stan is always a pleasure to read when he gets his teeth into something. And in this case he has." Payton Miller, Guns Magazine"I always enjoy good readsand can't say too much about one by a good friend. I love big gunsalthough I always pay the price for shooting them too much. But I like knowing about them even more than shooting them. If you're the type who'd also prefer straining an eye to detaching a retina, Stan Skinner's assembled a big book about big iron for you. It's the Shooter's Bible Guide to Extreme Iron and it covers everything from the express rifles and hand cannons of previous eras to the sub guns, suppressors and night-vision devices from today's front-line fighters. There are also some tricked-out .22s that include full autos and belt feds, so there's literally something in there for every recoil level." Outdoor Wire"With chapters devoted to express rifles, hand cannons, night vision optics, big-bore sniper rifles, machine guns, field artillery and more, the Shooter's Bible Guide to Extreme Iron introduces readers to many of the gun world's most exclusive niches. There are also some tricked-out .22s that include full autos and belt feds, so there's literally something in there for every recoil level." Outdoor Wire

Nova Science Publishers Inc Firearms in America: Selected Issues & Analyses
Book SynopsisCongress has broad authority pursuant to the Commerce Clause to enact laws in areas that may overlap with traditional state jurisdiction. As such, Congress has passed complex statutory provisions that regulate the possession, receipt, transfer, and manufacture of firearms and ammunition. Generally, courts have upheld the validity of firearms laws pursuant to Congress''s commerce power. However, courts have been confronted with the question of whether federal laws can be applied to intrastate possession and intrastate transfers of firearms, or whether such application exceeds the authority of Congress. This book explores these cases and how courts have analysed these as-applied challenges under the Supreme Court''s Commerce Clause jurisprudence primarily set forth in United States v. Lopez.

Skyhorse Publishing The Identification of Firearms: From Ammunition
Book SynopsisThe 1930s was a decade that provided impressive breakthroughs in the field of forensic ballistics, or firearms identification. Following the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre of 1929, where ballistic expert Calvin Goddard’s testimony brought attention to the relatively new field, several forensic ballistic books were published. Among these were Burrard’s The Identification of Firearms and Forensic Ballistics and Hatcher’s Textbook of Firearms Investigations, Identification, and Evidence. Burrard introduced forensic examination to the British judicial system; Hatcher applied his considerable knowledge of firearms and ammunition to weapons’ design, manufacture, and testing.Gunthers’ The Identification of Firearms combined the approaches of these volumes into a new book that emphasized both the painstaking scientific methodology vital to firearms identification, complete with ballistics photographs, and its practical use by analyses of several legal cases where firearms identification was used. These include the infamous Sacco-Vanzetti case, the first in American legal history where forensic ballistics played a very prominent role in courtroom proceedings. The Gunther brothers utilized their respective legal and military experience to provide a comprehensive reference volume that is noteworthy for those interested in law enforcement or ballistics as well as gun enthusiasts.Skyhorse Publishing is proud to publish a broad range of books for hunters and firearms enthusiasts.
