  • Natal Hypnotherapy The Labour Companion: For a Better Birth

    15 in stock

Book SynopsisTo get the maximum benefit from this CD, you should learn the techniques from the Natal Hypnotherapy birth preparation CD and the book during the last trimester of you pregnancy. This CD can then be used to reinforce the techniques during the birth. There are three hypnosis tracks which can be listened to at different stages of labour and these have been designed to reflect the emotional stages you are likely to go through. The reduce adrenaline track is particularly useful if you are disturbed during the later stages of labour.Trade ReviewA.C Wishes to be Anonymous When the voice started as well and it matched the soothing voice on the preparation CD, my body automatically responded by relaxing and I found I was breathing more deeply. My husband said apart from one moan, all he could hear was heavy breathing - he even wondered if it was a false alarm and that it wasn't proper labourA" The first track was very good when I started labouring at home. The contractions were manageable and the cd was an ideal extension of the preparation cds that I had listened to previously. The imagery, soothing tones of the voice and reassurances definitely kept me calm and positive. The two other tracks were used when I arrived at the hospital and the complications became evident and I needed to stay in the zone. I continuously went back to them as my contractions became stronger and stronger and my partner used a number of the techniques (eg 3,2,1 relax) to great effect.A" Zoe Tapper I had a very start & stop labour for days which is difficult as I found it hard to keep my spirits up & stay focused. However for the 2 days that labour started for me and fizzled out the labour companion CD helped me stay focused & calm & helped stave off the disappointment of not going into full labour. I was beginning to wonder if the baby would ever arrive. 10 days after my EDD my waters broke with no accompanying pain I slept with the aid of the CD and woke at 4am with 2 pains 10 minutes apart. I called the midwife who came to the house (bearing in mind she had been on 2 previous days with mo result!) and I had very manageable pains every 10 minutes or so until 9am when she examined me again to say I was 3cm and favourable. I was disappointed as I thought it would take hours longer but as it was my 3rd baby the midwife thought baby would arrive within the hour. We went up to the bathroom and set up the gas and air and tens machine and sure enough 45 minutes later out she popped! I put my speedy labours down to hypnotherapy and great midwife support, both of which make for a fear free labour.A" Bella Jordan The first track I listened to when contractions were still relatively mild, even though at the time I thought they were quite strong! The track really helped me re-focus on what I had tuned into during the original CD. The 2nd track was really helpful just to hear the voice and the reminders to relax etc... The music also really helped. Although I have to admit I found it VERY hard to actually block out the pain... I definitely did it every now and again but it was almost easier to ride the contraction out feeling the pain, although it definitely felt better when I managed to control it!! Bearing in mind that I was sleep deprived as my early contractions had been going for days before I headed into the birth centre. The 3rd track was very helpful. I had it on regularly to bring me down off the ceiling. I would highly recommend that people buy this CD if they're buying the birth preparation CD, because I feel as though if I didn't have this CD more of my hypnotherapy prep would have gone out of the window.A" G.B. wishes to remain annonymous The labour companion CD really helped me to calm down and 'centre myself' once I realised that this was definitely it! It reminded me to use the breathing techniques and visualisations I had learned from the birth preparation cd. The cd helped me calm down instantly and got me into the right frame of mind to deal with labour. I had been really nervous about the possibility of going into a hospital, and had chosen the local midwife led unit in order to try to avoid a hospital birth. I obviously knew that transfer would still be a possibility, and was glad to have the birth companion cd available. However, meconium in the waters meant that I had to be transferred to hospital. An ambulance arrived to collect me, and despite my husband having to travel separately, I remained calm and positive. During the transfer, I went through transition. I remember this being very painful and uncomfortable, but not worrying. In the ambulance I had some 'gas and air', the only pain relief I used throughout the whole labour and birth. I arrived at the hospital at 1:30am in stage 2 of labour. I was attached to a fetal monitor, but the pads kept slipping. This meant the machine was showing a varying heart rate, but still I was able to stay calm and positive, and knew that this was a fault with the machine, and that my baby was absolutely fine. During this stage I experienced no pain at all, and after nearly 2 and a half hours of pushing, baby F was born in full health, weighing 8lb 8oz, with an APGAR score of 9/10! I unfortunately sustained a 3rd degree tear, requiring surgery, but I hadn't felt this during the birth, and (despite my prior fear of hospitals and medicalisation) approached the surgery with the same calm positivity as I had the birth!A" I was surprised to find that I accepted the news calmly, and did not panic, as I had been afraid I would. I am sure that this is attributable to the natal hypnotherapy cd's I'd used, specifically track 1 of the companion cd that had helped me to recall the birth preparation techniques I'd learned. Laura Nickell The excitement phase track helped remind me of all my preparation and get me in a positive mindset. Serious stage helped me stay focused when became intense and the Adrenaline helped me relax when scared. The birth preparation helped me the most, and the labour companion tracks reminded me of relevant stages so could focus my thoughts and remind myself what I'd learnt. I've recommended the cd and book to all my pregnant friends, I'm a worrier and it helped me immensely throughout. Thank youA" Kirsty Clifford I used your labour companion CD when I birthed my third son. As it was a very quick birth - 1 hour 50 mins from first contraction to him being born, I'm afraid I only listened to track 3 on the CD - I went straight into active labour with the first contraction, no time for the excitement phase! And as I was in transition in the lift on the way to the labour ward I wasn't able to concentrate on the CD player enough to change the track from repeat. . OK, firstly I found it immensely helpful to have the same music in the background to your birth preparation CD. Even though I was in the car I found that as soon as I heard the music I relaxed - I noticed my shoulders drop immediately, without even listening to any words. When your voice started as well and it matched the soothing voice on the preparation CD, my body automatically responded by relaxing and I found I was breathing more deeply. I wasn't always able to listen to the individual words on the CD, depending on where I was in the contraction - I dealt with them by really focusing on my breathing so zoned out sometimes - but key phrases such as 3,2,1 relax stood out and really seemed to work, I noticed myself going from grasping the door for dear life to relaxing my grip and resting my hands in my lap. My husband said apart from one moan, all he could hear was heavy breathing - he even wondered if it was a false alarm and that it wasn't proper labour! I kept the CD player on throughout the journey to the hospital, getting out of the car into the wheelchair, going in the lift and then in the labour room I had it on throughout the birth. I still heard the midwife and my husband and was able to respond to both of them, but in the background I could always hear the music and your voice. It was incredibly helpful as it seemed to just let my body get on with things without my needing to think about it - which was exactly what I wanted. I think all I said to the midwife was 'I'm pushing' and that was about it until he was born! I did have G&A but I was expecting to need that, I got a bit distressed in the lift as I was in transition (which I knew to expect) and the wheelchair went over a bump getting into the lift which distracted me, so I asked for gas as I knew from previous births that it helps me concentrate on my breathing. I didn't actually need it much since I was pretty much pushing as soon as I got there, and could feel every stage of his head and body coming out. As my body had done so well on it's own, I also felt confident enough to ask for physiological third stage which I had previously been concerned about, having had 2 x pphs. However, my body knew what it was doing and it all went fine, with no pph either. Again, I repeated 3,2,1 relax in my head to deal with the contractions to push it out and it seemed to automatically relax me. I was a little bit unsure as to whether natal hypnotherapy would work on me or not, as listening to the preparation CD in the weeks leading up to the birth I never felt 'hypnotised' - I was always scratching my nose, fidgeting in the seat and generally being aware of my surroundings despite my best attempts to sit still. I did however find them incredibly relaxing and surprisingly emotional - the first few times you spoke about the golden light warming my baby I was in tears! Given my concerns, when the time came I was amazed at how well it all worked - I genuinely didn't feel scared (even though I began to realise I was only just going to make it to hospital) and both my husband and the midwife were really surprised and impressed with how I coped as well. I have recommended hypnotherapy to anyone who has asked and cannot thank you enough for helping me to enjoy my birth so muchTable of ContentsTrack 1 - Introduction 02:24 Track 2 - Excitement phase 22:31 Track 3 - Serious phase 17:02 Track 4 - Reduce adrenaline 06:05

Book SynopsisA pioneering and revolutionary book that lays the foundation for a radical new psychology, based on an expanded cartography of the human unconsciousness. Famous for his lifelong research into psychedelic drugs, Dr. Grof constructs a comprehensive and helpful framework out of the broad range of experiences triggered by LSD in patients and research subjects. Current research into the brain and ways of expanding consciousness give this seminal book, first published in 1979, new importance for the light it throws on many fundamental, but hitherto mysterious, human potentialities. Grof's theory of the human psyche transcends the personal and opens ways to a greater understanding of our inner selves.Trade ReviewI know of no work other than Grof's that so well incorporates the findings of Freud and Jung, adding fresh insights, which the methods of those psychotherapists could never have achieved. -- Joseph CampbellGrof's work is the most important contribution to personality theory in several decades. -- Abraham MaslowGrof's case histories contain an incredibly rich fund of mythological, literary and mystical reference points. * Kirkus Reviews *To call this book impressive is to underrate its impact. It is not an easy work to digest and plunges the reader into undreamt of areas of the Human Psyche, but to all those who would have the courage to look at life squarely in the face, I would urge you to read it * Revelation *Probably the most comprehensive and far-reaching study of the drug LSD to date... nobody who is interested in healing can afford to ignore these results... Book SynopsisWe are on the cusp of a major revolution in psychiatric medicine and neuroscience. After fifty years of prohibition, criminalisation and fear, science is finally showing us that psychedelics are not dangerous or harmful. Instead, when used according to tested, safe and ethical guidelines, they are our most powerful newest treatment of mental health conditions, from depression, PTSD, and OCD to disordered eating and even addiction and chronic pain.Professor David Nutt, one of the world's leading Neuropsychopharmacologists, has spent 15 years researching this field and it is his most significant body of work to date. In 2018, he co-founded the first academic psychedelic research centre - underpinned by his mission to provide evidence-based information for people everywhere. It revived interest in the understanding and use of this drug in its many forms, including MDMA, ayahuasca, magic mushrooms, LSD and ketamine. The results of this have been nothing short of ground-breaking for the future categorisation of drugs, but also for what we now know about brain mechanisms and our consciousness. At a time where there is an enormous amount of noise around the benefits of psychedelics, this book contains the knowledge you need to know about a drug that is about to go mainstream, free from the hot air, direct from the expert. Are you ready to change your mind?

Book Synopsis** AS READ ON BBC RADIO 4 BOOK OF THE WEEK IN DECEMBER 2022 **'Curious, lively, humble, utterly genuine ... a remarkable debut.' SUNDAY TIMESAlice Vernon often wakes up to find strangers in her bedroom.Ever since she was a child, her nights have been haunted by nightmares of a figure from her adolescence, sinister hallucinations and episodes of sleepwalking. These are known as 'parasomnias' - and they're surprisingly common. Now a lecturer in Creative Writing, Vernon set out to understand the history, science and culture of these strange and haunting experiences. Night Terrors, her startling and vivid debut, examines the history of our relationship with bad dreams: how we've tried to make sense of and treat them, from some decidedly odd 'cures' like magical 'mare-stones', to research on how video games might help people rewrite their dreams. Along the way she explores the Salem Witch Trials and sleep paralysis, Victorian ghost stories, and soldiers' experiences of PTSD. By directly confronting her own strange and frightening nights for the first time, Vernon encourages us to think about the way troubled sleep has impacted our imaginations.Night Terrors aims to shine a light on the darkest parts of our sleeping lives, and to reassure sufferers from bad dreams that they are not alone.Trade ReviewFascinating - just don't read it at bedtime. * The Observer *Curious, lively, humble, utterly genuine ... a remarkable debut. * Sunday Times *By writing this gruelling, honest book, Alice Vernon has done her small bit to try to puncture the power of nightmares. * Daily Mail *In a discourse fired by lively inquiry and personal anecdote, [Vernon] looks to art, literature and science to demonstrate the profound effect these eerie and surprisingly common nocturnal states have had on the human imagination. These questions are the starting point for this unprecedented, astonishing study of the role and significance of dreams, from the beginning of human history. An investigation on the grand scale, encompassing literature, anthropology, religion, and science, it articulates the essential place dreams occupy in human culture, and how they functioned as the catalyst that compelled us to transform our earthly habitat into a human world. Book SynopsisSigmund Freud (1856-1939) was born in Moravia; between the ages of four and eighty-two his home was in Vienna: in 1938 Hitler's invasion of Austria forced him to seek asylum in London, where he died in the following year. His career began with several years of brilliant work on the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system. He was almost thirty when, after a period of study under Charcot in Paris, his interests first turned to psychology, and another ten years of clinical work in Vienna (at first in collaboration with Breuer, an older colleague) saw the birth of his creation, psychoanalysis. Freud's life was uneventful, but his ideas have shaped not only many specialist disciplines, but the whole intellectual climate of the twentieth century.Anna Freud (1895-1982), the youngest daughter of Sigmund Freud, not only became a leading authority on child analysis, in both its theoretical and clinical aspects, but also a principle exponent of her father's work. There can be no question that he was a great writer: to read him is to be beguiled by him... his influence on all of us was enormous, and it would be as impossible to return to a pre-Freudian way of thinking as to return to a pre-heliocentric theory of the solar system * The Times *The great founder of psychoanalysis * The Times *

In elaborating this central thesis, he brings together a dazzling set of puns, anecdotes, snappyone-liners, spoonerisms and beloved stories of Jewish beggars and marriage-brokers. He focuses on the seemingly simple question of how we manage to distinguish among our experiences of perceiving, remembering, imagining, and thinking. To answer this question, he first develops a detailed analysis of auditory verbal hallucinations (usually defined as hearing a voice in the absence of a speaker) and thought insertion (somehow experiencing one's own thoughts as someone else's). He shows how thought insertion and many of those experiences labeled as “hallucinations” consist of disturbances in a person's sense of being in one type of intentional state rather t

Out of stock

Book SynopsisWhy we dream: the definitive answer tells the remarkable story of how Joe Griffin discovered how and why dreaming evolved in mammals and helped us unravel what our dreams actually mean. Thanks to Griffin's work we now know what dreams are doing for us: they keep us sane, or, in certain circumstances, can drive us mad (psychotic). And this knowledge opens up wonderful new possibilities for humanity: greater creativity; improved mental health and deeper understanding of who we are. Griffin and Tyrrell convincingly show that dreaming is vital for mental health and that the brain state we associate with dreaming (the REM state) also has crucial importance for when we are awake. This understanding of the REM state explains not only how our brains construct a model of reality, but also explains hypnosis, how creative behaviour works, and why we develop mental illnesses such as depression and psychosis.Trade Review"One of the most important scientific breakthroughs of the last hundred years' - Dr Farouk Okhai "Very convincing (theory). Much more acceptable than Freudian or Jungian notions. And Joe Griffin's interpretation of their dreams is entire reasonable." - Professor H.J. Eysenck (on reading the original hypothesis in 1991) "A wonderfully fresh and stimulating view of dreaming, evolution and human functioning ... it will deepen and widen every reader's perspective." Book SynopsisDo you sometimes wake from dreaming with an unease you find difficult to shake? Is there one recurring nightmare that haunts you? Or do dreams bring you welcome relief from your waking life? We spend around a third of our lives asleep, so it’s understandable that dreams have been intriguing and troubling humans for millennia. Some believe our dreams to be an expression of hidden desires, a cathartic release for our unconscious mind, or even crucial insights or predictions we can’t access while awake. Whatever their functions, our dreams are worth paying attention to. Yet with the demands and diversions of each day, it can be hard to find time to reflect on them. This compact volume approaches dreaming with a mindful eye, asking us to spend time reflecting on our dreams to help us decipher their secrets and discover what our nighttime unconscious could reveal about our daily lives, needs and desires. Interpreting Dreams is both an invitation to pay more attention to our dreams, and a toolkit for unlocking their hidden meanings. By bringing awareness to the time we spend dreaming, we can learn to become more present and fulfilled in our daily lives, and perhaps even alleviate some of our most persistent anxieties.

Crown House Publishing The Practitioner's Guide to Mirroring Hands: A

    3 in stock

Book SynopsisDescribes in detail how Mirroring Hands is conducted, and explores the framework of knowledge and understanding that surrounds and supports its therapeutic process. Richard Hill and Ernest L. Rossi's The Practitioner's Guide to Mirroring Hands: A Client-Responsive Therapy that Facilitates Natural Problem-Solving and Mind-Body Healing describes in detail how Mirroring Hands is conducted, and explores the framework of knowledge and understanding that surrounds and supports its therapeutic process. Foreword by Jeffrey K. Zeig, Ph.D. Mirroring Hands is a practical therapeutic technique that can be utilized by all practitioners for the benefit of their clients. With a tranquil state of focused attention as the starting point, the practitioner invites the client to explore an issue by projecting it into their hands; with one hand representing the difficulty or disturbance, the other becomes the natural container for the opposite reflections - resolution, ease and comfort. This enables the client to engage with their deeper therapeutic self - thereby facilitating the shift into a therapeutic consciousness - and connect to the natural flow, cycles and self-organizing emergence that shift the client toward beneficial change. In this instructive and illuminating manual, Hill and Rossi show you how Mirroring Hands enables clients to unlock their natural problem-solving and mind-body healing capacities to arrive at a resolution in a way that many other therapies might not. The authors offer expert guidance as to its client-responsive applications and differentiate seven variations of the technique in order to give the practitioner confidence and comfort in their ability to work within and around the possibilities presented while in session. Furthermore, Hill and Rossi punctuate their detailed description of how Mirroring Hands is conducted with a diverse range of illustrative casebook examples and stage-by-stage snapshots of the therapy in action: providing scripted language prompts and illustrative images of a client's hand movement that demonstrate the processes behind the technique as it takes the client from disruption into the therapeutic; and from there to integration, resolution, and a state of well-being. The Practitioner's Guide to Mirroring Hands begins by tracing the emergence of the Mirroring Hands approach from its origins in Rossi's studies and experiences with Milton H. Erickson and by presenting a transcription of an insightful discussion between Rossi and Hill as they challenge some of the established ways in which we approach psychotherapy, health, and well-being. Building upon this exchange of ideas, the authors define and demystify the nature of complex, non-linear systems and skillfully unpack the three key elements of induction to therapeutic consciousness - focused attention, curiosity, and nascent confidence - in a section dedicated to preparing the client for therapy. Hill and Rossi also supply preparatory guidance for the therapist through explanation of therapeutic dialogue's non-directive language principles, and through exploration of the four-stage cycle - information, incubation, breakthrough and illumination, and verification - that facilitates the client's capacity to access their natural problem-solving and mind-body healing. The authors also take care to advocate Mirroring Hands as not only a therapeutic technique, but also an approach to practice for all practitioners engaged in solution-focused therapy. Through its enquiry into the vital elements of client-cue observation, symptom-scaling, and rapport-building inherent in the therapist-client relationship, The Practitioner's Guide to Mirroring Hands shares a great store of wisdom and insight that will help the practitioner become more attuned to their clients' inner worlds and communication patterns. Hill and Rossi draw on a wealth of up-to-date neuroscientific research and academic theory to help bridge the gap between therapy's intended outcomes and its measured neurological effects, and, towards the book's close, also open the door to the study of quantum field theory to inspire the reader's curiosity in this fascinating topic. An ideal progression for those engaged in mindfulness and meditation, The Practitioner's Guide to Mirroring Hands is the first book on the subject specially written for all mental health practitioners and is suitable for students of counseling, psychotherapy, psychology, and hypnotherapy, as well as anyone in professional practice.Table of ContentsContents include: Introduction 1. Book SynopsisTime Line Therapy and the Basis of Personality is a compelling study of the important elements that make up a person's core personality, and a detailed exploration of - and introduction to - how Time Line therapy works in practice. Written by Tad James and Wyatt Woodsmall, Time Line Therapy and the Basis of Personality is a compelling study of the important elements that make up a person's core personality, and a detailed exploration of - and introduction to - how Time Line therapy works in practice. Utilizing discoveries made by Richard Bandler, Time Line Therapy and the Basis of Personality expands and updates our knowledge of how people actually store their memories, and sheds light on the effect that the system used for memory storage has on the individual. The authors contend that the concept of Time Line, or the notion of time that you have stored in your mind, shapes and structures your experience of the world, and therefore shapes your personality. Time Line therapy is therefore based on the premise that the client goes back to the first time they remember a particular problem, does change work - utilizing Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) to eliminate irritating behaviors or issues - and, if necessary, goes to subsequent times when their behavior or response was a problem, and undertakes further change work to resolve it. Written in an informative and engaging manner, Time Line Therapy and the Basis of Personality offers readers the opportunity to see how Time Line therapy works - providing a clear description of how to elicit the Time Line, and sharing step-by-step methods to subsequently help the client to release a limiting decision or trauma, remove anxiety, or set a future goal. All of these key aspects are explained using clear language and easy-to-follow steps, and the authors' expert commentary is further complemented by examples, exercises and transcripts in order to help the reader transfer the theory into effective practice. In Section I, the authors explain the NLP Communication Model and share their in-depth analysis of the filters - values, beliefs, attitudes, decisions, memories and meta programs - which we subconsciously use as we process the world around us and which form the basis of our personalities. Section II provides a comprehensive description of the Time Line and how it works: laying down a theoretical basis for the technique before offering insight into its practice and application with a demonstrative transcript of Time Line elicitation and change work in order to illustrate the concepts explored. In Section III the authors move on to carefully survey simple and complex meta programs (and how they can be changed) before exploring the formation, evolution and changing of values in Section IV, which includes a helpful exercise that gives guidance on how to elicit values from the client. Exploring many interesting contexts and how personality can be positively changed to help people live happier lives, Time Line Therapy and the Basis of Personality is a worthy addition to any therapist's or NLP practitioner's library and is suitable reading for anyone interested in behavioral change. Time Line Therapy and the Basis of Personality was originally published in 1988 by Meta Publications. Previously published as ISBN 978-091699021-3Table of ContentsSections include: Section I: Introduction Section II: Time Line Therapy Section III: Meta Programs Section IV: Values
