Book SynopsisThis handbook is an invaluable resource on the principles and practice of Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA). This popular form of scalp acupuncture is used to treat a wealth of neurological conditions, and is very effective in stroke patients with pain and restricted mobility, providing relief from the symptoms. Lotus Publishing Born to Walk: Myofascial Efficiency and the Body

    15 in stock

Book SynopsisBorn to Walk is designed to help movement therapists, physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, massage therapists, and bodyworkers understand gait and its mechanics, and will appeal to anyone with an interest in evolution and movement. It offers a concise model for understanding the complexity of movement while gaining a deeper insight into the physiology and mechanics of the walking process. This second and revised edition provides new research on assessment, diagnosis, and treatment approaches to enhance gait efficiency. Changes include: * Updated information and research on myofascial continuities * More clearly arranged according to planes of movement * New informative illustrations based on phases of gait with EMG readings * Clear listing of the 'Essential Events' The ability to walk upright on two legs is one of the major traits distinguishing us as humans, In Born to Walk, author James Earls explores the mystery of walking's evolution by describing the complex mechanisms enabling us to be efficient in bipedal gait. His model uses the latest research in paleoanthropology, sports medicine and anatomy, coupled with a functional understanding of the human form, to demonstrate how the whole body collaborates as an interconnected unit in walking, Earls explores the efficiency which is part of our natural design, distilling the complex actions into a simple sequence of "essential events" that engage the myofascia and utilize its full potential. Born to Walk helps identify areas of the body that, if dysfunctional, may reduce efficiency of gait. With this knowledge we can help ourselves and our clients regain a flowing elasticity within gait.Table of ContentsForeword; Preface to the Second Edition; Introduction; Chapter 1: The "Walking System"; Chapter 2: The Mechanical Chain; Chapter 3: Sagittal Plane; Chapter 4: Frontal Plane; Chapter 5: Transverse Plane; Chapter 6: Our Inner Spring; Chapter 7: Contralateral Movement; Chapter 8: Spring Walker: Chapter 9: Conclusion; Bibliography; Index

    15 in stock

Book SynopsisThis is a brand new edition of a successful book which was one of the first to encourage movement therapists and bodyworkers to look at the postural causes of movement problems, rather than focusing treatment just on the physical symptoms. The book explains how to measure and assess posture and provides tools for doing so. The author introduces her unique perspective on body mechanics - Aston-Mechanics - a departure from the standard model of body posture, and provides many opportunities to practice observation and analytical skills based on this paradigm.Key featuresThe author is widely recognized as a pioneer in the art and science of kinetics for her discovery of the Aston Paradigm and consequent development of the many forms of movement, bodywork, fitness and ergonomics of Aston Kinetics. She created and developed Aston Kinetics as an educational system of movement and bodywork. Rather than enforcing physical symmetry, Aston Kinetics seeks to recognize the asymmetries that are natural to a person''s body and to achieve the best movement possible. Her acute ability to ''see'' the body in stillness and motion and to train others to see, move and exercise, established her discipline of bodywork and movement training that is known as Aston Kinetics. The book is highly illustrated with over 300 photographs and 150 line drawings. All the illustrations are new for this edition.

Jessica Kingsley Publishers Motility in Osteopathy: An Embryology Based

    5 in stock

Book SynopsisMotility, relating to the vital energy of the human tissues, is a basic concept in osteopathy. This book presents a simple and systematic definition of motility, based on the movement of all of the body's structures during embryogenesis. Those initial movements, intrinsic to the energy of the tissues, are the essence of motility and, as such, they are crucial to the tissues' normal movement. These fundamental ideas expand the osteopath's clinical intervention techniques and deepen the understanding of both the bases of osteopathy and of human functions.Illustrated in two colours with clear and original line drawings and photographs, this book offers the new model of practice developed by Alain Auberville over his 30 years of experimentation and teaching; it is presented here by Andree Aubin, who has linked Alain Auberville's approach to classic osteopathic concepts in order to facilitate its integration into regular clinical practice.

Book SynopsisAt the deepest level of our physiology, all living tissues and fluids expand and contract with the 'breath of life'. Through gentle touch, the skilled practitioner can interact with these subtle rhythms to address physical aches and pains, acute or chronic disease, emotional or psychological disturbances, or simply to promote enduring health and vitality. This new and important textbook demystifies the biodynamic approach to craniosacral therapy and shows how and why it can be so effective at bringing about a natural realignment towards optimal health. The authors describe how to 'listen' and respond appropriately to each client's system, how to create a safe space for working with different kinds of trauma, and how to address specific states of imbalance to support deep-felt and lasting change. Throughout the book, experiential exercises encourage the reader to practice their newly-acquired skills, and refine their knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. A final chapter on practice development covers issues pertinent to practitioners trying to set up and maintain a successful practice. • Mobilizing the Myofascial System: A Clinical

Jessica Kingsley Publishers Mobilizing the Myofascial System: A Clinical

    5 in stock

Book SynopsisThe book is intended to increase the awareness among physical therapists and other bodyworkers of the significance of fascia in the conditions they treat. It presents an approach developed by the author from the basis of manual therapy for the articular, muscular and neural systems. In the world of orthopaedic physiotherapy, the use of manual therapy techniques has become increasingly evidence-based, and study after study shows its efficacy along with exercise therapy for the management of the most common orthopaedic conditions. However very few physiotherapists have written about the fascial system, and there is a general ignorance within the profession of what fascia is, how it relates to the techniques they use, and why it is important to their work. The book follows the principles of assessment and treatment of the fascial lines as described by Tom Myers in his book Anatomy Trains. This book is probably the first to be written about fascia from the perspective of a physiotherapist. As practitioners dealing with musculoskeletal pain they often find that no matter what they have tried in their existing 'tool-kit', it hasn't had the positive effect they are seeking. They may also be experiencing situations where clients are complaining of multiple areas of pain that don't correspond or fit into the paradigms that physiotherapists are familiar with, even as fully trained manual therapists. What they may be missing is the fascial component. This book will introduce them to it. The book is user-friendly for the practitioner, with a minimum of theory and an emphasis on practical applications.Table of ContentsChapter 1: Who am I? Why this approach to treatment? A historical review of Fascial approaches to treatment thus far.Chapter 2: Brief review of Tom Myer's Anatomy Trains fascial lines Chapter 3: Diagnosing Fascial Dysfunctions Chapter 4: Basic Principles of TreatmentChapter 5: AbbreviationsChapter 6: The Cervical spineChapter 7: The Cranio-facial region (cranium, TMJ)Chapter 8: Dural MobilityChapter 9: The ThoraxChapter 10: The Lumbar / pelvic regionChapter 11: The Pelvic floorChapter 12: The Lower ExtremityChapter 13: The Shoulder GirdleChapter 14: The Upper ExtremityChapter 15: Exercises to maintain Fascial mobilityChapter 16: Balancing left and right brain thinkingReferences:
