  • Oxford Handbook of Head and Neck Anatomy Oxford

Oxford University Press Oxford Handbook of Head and Neck Anatomy Oxford

    2 in stock

Book SynopsisThe Oxford Handbook of Head and Neck Anatomy offers a succinct yet comprehensive quick reference guide with over 400 schematic colour and grey-scale illustrations. It tackles the notoriously difficult three-dimensional anatomy of the head and neck and provides essential clinico-anatomical correlates, etymology and background insight to help the reader easily remember complex features. Written and illustrated throughout with an awareness of the difficulties faced in linking the anatomy on the page with real cases seen in day-to-day clinical practice, this handbook is an essential resource for trainees and students at all levels.Trade ReviewIf you want head and neck anatomy distilled down to its essence—this is it...This book will be useful to undergraduates learning anatomy for the first time, but also for trainees specializing in those anatomical areas above the clavicle—who will look back and wish they'd had this text at medical school... Armed with this powerful tome, the pterygopalatine fossa will never again hold such terror, the infamous infratemporal fossa will be laid bare, and the lacrimal lake of despond will dry up. And with this map in hand, a safari in tiger country will be much, much less dangerous. * Professor Alice Roberts, Anatomist, author & broadcaster, Professor of Public Engagement in Science, University of Birmingham *This is a succinct yet comprehensive pocket guide to the anatomy of the head and neck. Using fairly simple, well-drawn images, the relevant bones are introduced individually then combined to construct regional anatomy. These components serve as building blocks of a more holistic, thorough understanding of head and neck anatomy. * Lesley Knight Gilmer, Ph.D.(University of Louisville), Doody's Reviews *A sound grounding in anatomy is still quite rightly required at undergraduate level in medicine and dentistry and often serves to kindle an early interest in many a future surgical career. I have no doubt that this addition to the bookshelf will help many students to find head and neck anatomy less of a terrifying prospect by sheer dint of its simplicity. The Oxford Handbook of Head and Neck Anatomy will be particularly welcomed by those of us in head and neck surgical specialities at all stages of our careers, and members of many medical specialities will find the artistry and accessibility of this excellent resource to be invaluable. * Carrie Newlands, Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Guildford, UK; Chair UK OMFS FRCS Examination Board *This a beautiful book. it doesn't matter whether you are a medical student or a consultant, this book will teach or remind you of some salient fact. Beautiful diagrams and lots of what I consider trinkets of history in relation to anatomy. * Amazon Review *This is not just another anatomy book. It is written extremely well with accurate high level anatomy for post graduate exams. The etymology is fascinating and makes this book not just for exams but generally a brilliant read. I have the kindle version but I may just also buy a paper copy to. Illustrations are clear and accurate. * Amazon Review *Table of Contents1: The Skull 2: The Mandible 3: The Skullbase 4: The Cranial Nerves 5: The Neck 6: Viscera of the Neck 7: The Pharynx 8: The Larynx 9: The Face, Scalp and Temporal Region 10: The Orbit and its Contents 11: The Mouth 12: The Salivary Glands 13: The Nose and Paranasal Sinuses 14: The Ear 15: Embryology

Book SynopsisThe aim of this book is to give a short and practical account of the problems related to the ear, nose and throat. The presenta tion is orientated towards arriving at a diagnosis based on the presenting symptoms and signs and aid the management of the case. While it is specifically intended for those who have not had the opportunity of devoting much time to the subject, I hope that it may be of some service to the more experienced practitioner. Padman Ratnesar Farn boro ugh, 1984 7 Series Foreword This series of books is designed to help general practitioners. So are other books. What is unusual in this instance is their collective authorship; they are written by specialists working at district general hospitals. The writers derive their own experience from a range of cases less highly selected than those on which textbooks are traditionally based. They are also in a good position to pick out topics which they see creating diffi culties for the practitioners of their district, whose personal capacities are familiar to them; and to concentrate on contexts where mistakes are most likely to occur. They are all well accustomed to working in consultation.Table of Contents1 Earache.- External ear.- Middle ear.- Referred pain.- 2 Deafness.- Types of hearing loss.- Conductive deafness.- Sensorineural deafness.- 3 The discharging ear.- Otitis extra.- Subacute otitis media.- Chronic otitis media.- 4 Vertigo.- Physiological and pathological vertigo.- Peripheral and central vertigo.- Clinical assessment.- 5 Tinnitus.- Clinical groups.- Management.- 6 Facial paralysis.- Upper motor neuron paralysis.- Lower motor neuron paralysis.- Ascertainment of level of lesion.- Management of facial palsy.- 7 Anosmia.- Anatomy and physiology of sensation of smell and taste.- Causes of anosmia.- Clinical assessment.- Treatment.- Course and outcome.- 8 Nasal obstruction and nasal discharge.- Nasal obstruction.- Nasal discharge.- 9 Nose bleeds.- Age-sex distribution.- Sites of nose bleedings.- Causes.- Associated symptoms.- Management.- 10 Epiphora.- Causes.- Clinical assessment.- Treatment.- Practical points.- 11 Sore throat.- Who gets them and when.- Causes.- Interrelations.- Clinical types.- 12 Hoarseness and stridor.- Children.- Adults.- Aphasia.- Aphonia.- Dysarthria.- 13 Diplopia.- Causes.- Examination.- Investigation.- 14 Dyspagia.- Causes.- types.- 15 Tonsils and adenoids.- Who and when?.- Why?.- The catarrhal child syndrome.- Effects.- Tonsillectomy and/or adenoidectomy?.- Indications.- Results.- Dangers.- 16 Swellings of the neck.- Congenital swellings.- Inflammatory swellings.- Neoplasm.

Book SynopsisThe fully updated comprehensive anatomical guide on surgery of the paranasal sinuses and skull base As in the acclaimed prior editions, Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, Fourth Edition focuses strictly on anatomy, 3D reconstruction, and step-by-step surgical techniques. Written by Peter-John Wormald, the richly illustrated text details anatomy and operative treatment of sinonasal conditions such as nasal polyposis, chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), Samter's triad, eosinophilic mucus CRS, exophthalmos, acute orbital hemorrhage, orbital subperiosteal abscess, and a wide array of tumors. The fourth edition reflects simplified anatomical nomenclature published in 2016 by Wormald et al, including reclassification of cells in the frontal recess and the extent of surgery of frontal sinus surgery (EFSS). This enables clearer understanding of impacted anatomy, most notably the frontal sinus drainage pathways. New and revised evidence-based procedures include the mega-antrostomy and pre-lacrimal approach to the maxillary sinus and use of anterior based pedicled flaps for frontal drillout. Refinements in other surgical techniques include endoscopic medial maxillectomy and resection of sinonasal neoplasms. Anatomy and surgical approaches elucidated through 1,000 images including CTs, illustrations, and diagrams Exquisite dissections by Rowan Valentine, who worked in the anatomy laboratory of the late Albert L. Rhoton Jr., internationally renowned author, educator, brain anatomist, and neurosurgeon Delineation of variations in frontal recess anatomy and difficult regions adjacent to the sinuses provides important surgical guidance Seventy operative videos detail potential anatomical variations seen in the frontal sinuses, ancillary procedures such as DCR, orbital decompression, CSF leak closure, and skull base surgical approaches This classic reference is a must-have for otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeons, as well as residents and fellows seeking a robust tutorial on the latest functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) techniques. Book SynopsisThe continuation of Paul Nogier's findings Auriculotherapy is based on proven correspondences between locations on the external ear and the internal organs and systems of the body. The ear acts like an input/output terminal in direct contact with the central nervous system. Information on viscerosomatic states can be accessed via visual clues, skin electro-conductivity, and pressure sensitivity at specific points. The first part of Raphael Nogier's Auriculotherapy shows how acupuncture needles are used in sophisticated and powerful therapeutic interventions. The second part introduces the principles and practice of auriculomedicine, a true frequency medicine that evolved from Dr. Paul Nogier's auriculotherapy, his discovery of the VAS (Vascular Autonomic Signal) in the pulse and his consequent observations of the diagnostic and therapeutic properties of radiant light frequencies on the skin. The material presented here builds on and updates the work of the author's father, Dr. Paul Nogier, who scientifically explored and charted the auricular microsystems in the 1950s. A serviceable, contemporary work for students of acupuncture as well as practitioners, offering clear and practical information to be applied directly for the benefit of patients.Trade Review[Five stars] The author...is...a leader in the field...layout makes finding the relevant information...a snap...easy to carry in a lab coat...a high quality, useful book...keep [this book] close in clinical practice.--Doody's ReviewTable of ContentsAuriculotherapy in Medicine The Two Types of Ear Points Anatomy of the Ear Innervation of the Ear Representation of the Organs on the Ear Representation of the Vertebral Column Ear Locations Other Locations Methods of Point Detection Point Treatment Methods Indications for Auriculotherapy Anatomy of the Posterior Ear Mesodermic Locations on the Posterior Surface of the Ear Endodermic Locations on the Posterior Surface of the Ear Ectodermic Locations on the Posterior Surface of the Ear Important Points on the Posterior Surface Geometric Relationships Treatment of Aligned Points Prioritizing the Points Paul Nogier's Phase Theory A Contemporary Perspective on the Phases and Their Clinical Use Today The Auricular-Cardiac Reflex (ACR), Also Known as Vascular Autonomic Signal (VAS) How to Experience the Vascular Autonomic Signal Cutaneous Photoperception Cutaneous Photoperception and Ear Points The Nogier Frequencies How to Select Equipment for Studying the Nogier Frequencies and Treating Ear Points The Study of Ear Points by their Frequencies The Electromagnetic Signature of a Lesion The Treatment of Peripheral Neuropathies The Treatment of Fibromyalgia The Treatment of Depressive Disorder

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisOral cavity cancers present unique challenges due to the intricate anatomy and essential functions of this region. Optimal functional and aesthetic restoration involving complex reconstructive options are required to treat such conditions. The authors share their extensive experience in head and neck reconstruction within this text. This practical colour atlas reflects the authors' extensive and wide ranging experience in the realm of head and neck reconstruction. In hopsitals with high case loads a variety of reconstructive options are used, including local and regional flap options as viable alternatives to the more intricate free flap reconstructions. By including numerous case examples illustrated with clear photographs, instructive stepwise explanations, access to operative video clips, and expert commentary from authors with decades of experience, the art and science of reconstructive oral cavity surgery is superbly presented.Reconstructive surgery forms an essential component of the curricula for postgraduate examinations for ENT, plastic surgery and OMFS. Book SynopsisIn the past two decades the radiological investigation and imaging of paranasal sinus disease has been revolutionised by the introduction of two new techniques: magnetic resonance and computerised tomography. These have made the diagnosis and localisation of neoplastic and non-neoplastic disease a far more exact process and they have completely replaced con ventional pluridirectional tomography as a means of augmenting the initial plain radiographic examination of the paranasal sinuses. The recent introduction into clinical practice of the paramagnetic contrast agent gadolinium DTPA has extended further the range of magnetic resonance in the demonstration of naso-sinus disease. The account which follows is an attempt to summarise present knowledge in this division of otorhinolaryngology imaging. • Springer International Publishing AG Spoken Discourse Impairments in the Neurogenic Populations: A State-of-the-Art, Contemporary Approach

    Out of stock

Book SynopsisThis comprehensive volume provides balanced and easily readable chapters on contemporary topics around discourse production in patients with neurogenic disorders. Discourse broadly refers to a unit of language longer than a single sentence, typically used in a spoken or written format to express ideas, feelings, and opinions or to interact with others. As the field of research in speech-language pathology, aphasia and related neurogenic disorders, and clinical decision-making to manage neurogenic impairments is rapidly expanding, there has been an increased focus on discourse analysis and therapy to enable patients to speak well again. Various user groups and people with lived experience (e.g., aphasia, dementia, traumatic brain injury, right hemisphere damage, etc.) are also increasingly focused on the impact of neurogenic impairments on domains of conversation and changes in language skills beyond the smaller linguistic components of single words and sentences that are traditionally supported by speech-language therapy. The first part of this book details and discusses the basic principles, historical perspectives (history and developmental milestones), neural basis, and recent evolutions and advancement of discourse analysis in speakers with acquired communication disorders. The second part of the book outlines and illustrates current methods for discourse elicitation and analysis across different clinical populations. Recent leaps forward in technology that can assist in the recording, processing, and analysis of discourse will be highlighted. The final part of book reviews and summarizes key developments of various evidenced-based training strategies, interventions, and treatment programs, as well as utilization of innovative technology to clinically improve neurogenic disordered discourse. This is an ideal guide for researchers, clinicians, and students in the field of communication sciences and disorders, speech and language therapy, gerontology, (neuro-)linguistics, psychology, and related fields in clinical medicine.Table of ContentsHistorical review of research in discourse deficits and its recent advancement.-Discourse characteristics in aphasia.-Discourse and conversation impairments in patients with dementia.-Using discourse as a measure of early cognitive decline associated with Alzheimer’s disease biomarkers.-Discourse characteristics in traumatic brain injury.-Spoken discourse production following right hemisphere damage.-TalkBank methods for studying spoken discourse.-The structural neural correlates of spoken discourse.-The functional neural correlates of spoken discourse.-Co-speech gesture production in spoken discourse among speakers with acquired language disorders.-Discourse production in multilingual people with aphasia.-Clinically feasible analysis of discourse: Current state and looking forward.-Assessing impaired macrostructures in discourse production of persons with aphasia.-Assessing discourse ability in adults with traumatic brain injury.-Assessing discourse ability in adults with right hemisphere damage.-Automatic assessment of speech and language impairment in natural speech.-Machine learning, features, and computational approaches to discourse analysis.-Tele-assessment of cognition and discourse production.-Interventions targeting spoken discourse in aphasia.-Neuromodulation of impaired spoken discourse.-FOQUSAphasia: An initiative to facilitate research of spoken discourse in aphasia and its translation into improved evidence-based practice for discourse treatment.-Better Conversations with aphasia and primary progressive aphasia.-Improving communication with people living with dementia: A socio-cognitive approach.-Communication treatment approaches to improve discourse production in traumatic brain injury.-Telepractice in language and discourse-based interventions for older adults: Theoretical and methodological approaches.-Communication Partner Training (CPT) to improve conversation, communication, and mental health.
