Taschen GmbH Virgil Abloh. Nike. ICONS
Book SynopsisIn 2016, sportswear manufacturer Nike and fashion designer Virgil Abloh joined forces to create a sneaker collection celebrating 10 of the Oregon-based company’s most iconic shoes. With their project The Ten—which reimagined icons like Air Jordan 1, Air Max 90, Air Force 1, and Air Presto, among others—they reinvigorated sneaker culture. Virgil Abloh’s designs offer deep insights into engineering ingenuity and burst with cultural cachet. Drawing on the genius of the original shoe using lettering, ironic labels, collage, and sculpting techniques, Abloh played with language and sculptural elements to construct new meaning. Inspired by the wit of Dadaism, architectural theory, and avant-garde happenings, he analyzed what makes each shoe iconic and deconstructed it into an artistic assemblage, making each shoe into a piece of industrial design, a readymade sculpture, and a wearable all at once. ICONS traces Abloh’s investigative, creative process through documentation of the prototypes, original text messages from Abloh to Nike designers, and treasures from the Nike archives. We find Swooshes sliced away from Air Jordans and reapplied with tape or thread, Abloh’s typical text fragments in quotation marks on Air Force 1, and All Stars cut into pieces. We take a look behind the scenes and witness Abloh’s DIY approach, which gave each model in the Off-WhiteTM c/o Nike collection its own unique touch. His deconstructive vocabulary is reflected in the Swiss binding, which showcases an open spine and discloses the production of the book. The book documents Abloh’s cooperative way of working and reaffirms the power of print. For its design Nike and Abloh partnered with the acclaimed London-based design studio Zak Group. Together they conceived a two-part compendium, equal parts catalog and conceptual toolbox. The first part of the book presents a visual culture of sneakers while a lexicon in the second part defines the key people, places, objects, ideas, materials, and scenes from which the project grew. Texts by Nike’s Nicholas Schonberger, writer Troy Patterson, curator and historian Glenn Adamson, and Virgil Abloh himself frame the collaborative work within fashion and design history. A foreword by Hiroshi Fujiwara places the project within the historical continuum of Nike collaborators.Trade Review“Abloh and Nike’s collaboration marked a significant moment for the footwear industry and is celebrated in ICONS.” * hypebae.com *„If the shoe is an art object, this 352-page art book is an appeal to enter the canon.“ * 032c *“Virgil Abloh’s ‘ICONS’ book lifts the lid on his era-defining Nike collaboration.” * Complex.com *“The design brings a baseline color pop for your initial book stacking and shelving, as well as a legit conversation piece.” * vice.com *“Offers unique insight into a defining moment in sneaker culture.” * dazeddigital.com *“Sure to get the sneakerheads buzzing.” * robbreport.com *“The ultimate Virgil Abloh x Nike retrospective.” * sneakerfreaker.com *“As sneaker culture becomes more and more prevalent in both the realms of art and high fashion, there are very few books on the market that are worthy of a chic coffee table arrangement – until now. Search Press Ltd Colourful Wayuu Bags to Crochet: A Guide to
Book SynopsisColourful, functional and fun – these striking crocheted Wayuu bags have the best combination of features! Using the technique of tapestry crochet, there are ten stunning bags to make, all in excitingly bold colourways and designs, with the characteristic woven shoulder straps and drawstring cords. Some of the bags are also embellished with pompoms and tassels. Using the traditional geometric patterns and shapes of the Colombian and Venezuelan Wayuu people, each bag is unique and you can make them in your own choice of colours. Tapestry crochet uses just one crochet stitch and is an easy technique to learn, and a section at the end of the book shows you how to make the beautifully braided straps and drawstrings. The braided straps could also easily be made on their own as trendy belts for trousers and skirts. Using very simple stitches, with easy-to-follow patterns and widely available 100% cotton yarns, these bags are too beautiful to resist - so pick up your yarn and hook and get started!Trade ReviewInspired by the vibrant bags made by the Wayuu tribe, these tapestry crochet projects are bursting with colour! The book starts with Rianne's techniques for colourwork, carrying the yarn and creating the bases of the bags, illustrated with colourful step-by-step photographs. Then we're onto the ten projects, beginning with a simple hourglass pattern designed for people taking their first steps into tapestry crochet. After that you can move onto floral designs, geometric patterns, stripes and a fun flamingo bag. * Inside Crochet, Issue 113 *Recently received this book to review and have been constantly picking it up and gone through the techniques shown, very impressed with written instructions and pictures to ensure easy understanding. Great the way the author also gives the problem solving hints as well. Now have the cotton ready to try out the first project! -- Helen Wootton * Customer review *Love this book it's a pleasure to use, the patterns are great, it's well written and very easy to follow all the aspects of the bag making process. -- Maggie Bacon * Customer review *I love this book. I have never crocheted over a bundle of yarns before and the step by step instructions and the photos that illustrate the techniques are brilliant. The author briefly explains the origin of wayuu crochet and then explains several techniques before you even see the patterns. The book has a beginner pattern and also more advanced patterns. Further on in the book the different techniques for braiding handles and drawstrings are explained. I particularly liked the section about using a kumihimo disc as I bought one a while back that I haven’t yet used. This is an excellent book that explains each step in depth so that even a beginner crocheter could follow it. I can’t wait to get started on my first project. -- Joanne Gardner * Customer review *Crochet bags with a difference. -- Julie DeeDee Banks * Customer review *Until recently I had barely seen any Wayuu bags. This beautiful book has ten examples to crochet. US terms are used but UK terms are noted. The instructions are clearly worded and the pictures and explanations of techniques are very precise throughout. Included in the book is an amazing section on making the shoulder straps for the bags using ply split braiding. It's fascinating. The only problem I have is deciding which design to crochet first. Highly recommended for more experienced crocheters. -- Faye Mulhern * Customer review *I adore the projects to crochet. I love the Wayuu bags, the projects have easy to follow patterns with step by step photographs to help you along the way. I recently started to crochet and would say this isn't a book for beginners, like me, however, I am going to aspire to make some of the projects when I have mastered the different stitches. A great book full of lovely projects. -- Sally Mitton * Customer review *The colourful, geometric-patterned bags of the Wayuu people, who are native to Colombia and Venezuela, provided the inspiration for the 10 projects in Rianne de Graaf's new book. Start your journey of mochilas (Spanish for "backpack") with the Small Hourglass Bag designed with beginners in mind. Full-colour photos guide you step-by-step through the basic tapestry-crochet technique. Learn how to finish your bag with a woven shoulder strap and kumihimo-bread drawstring. Rianne also provides troubleshooting tips and advice on selecting cotton yarn and the appropriate size of hook. * Interweave Crochet *I feel envious of Rianne! Imagine discovering an exotic form of crochet made by a tribe in South America - and which few people have heard of, let alone written about! She first saw Wayuu bags on Pinterest a few years ago, became enthused and wrote this book. The Wayuu tribe live in Venezuela and Colombia on the shores of the Caribbean. Their homes are basic huts, they sleep in hammocks, and they use mochila bags for storing their few possessions. Mochila is the general word for a shoulder bag made in tapestry crochet, and Wayuu is a sort of trademark for the bags made by this tribe - which can sell for £100! But it does take them 3 weeks to complete one. These are sturdy duffle bags made in vibrant colours and striking geometrical patterns. They are worked in tapestry crochet, in dc over 4-6 strands of 4ply cotton. These carrying yarns lie along the top of the work, and colour changes are made by bringing a new one forward as the working yarn and letting the current one join the other strands. The bags are finished off with a patterned shoulder strap and drawstring, and sometimes big tassels and pompoms. Traditionally the strap would be crocheted, or woven on a back-strap loom, but Rianne adds an international touch by using ply-split braiding, which originated in North West India, and was used as a neck decoration for camels! The drawstring is made from Kumihimo braid from Japan! Detailed instructions and several designs are given for both. But simple crochet can be used instead. Rianne gives all the basic instructions for the tapestry crochet, including coloured charts for the designs, and step-by-step photos. She has lots of hints and explanations in her very readable style. There are 10 detailed patterns for bags, attractively photographed. This is quite a tricky technique; it must be said. The simple dc needs 'modelling', and patience is needed to handle the colour changes neatly, and not get all those balls in a tangle. The bag is worked in a spiral, so how to avoid a step at the beginning of a round? We are taught the art of 'staggering' to cope with this. I made a coaster for practice and am looking forward to making my own Wayuu mochila bag soon. If you like a challenge and are intrigued by new crochet techniques, I would recommend Wayuu Bags to Crochet - as far as I know, it is currently the only book on the subject. -- Sally Magill * Slipknot, The Knitting & Crochet Guild Magazine *Table of ContentsForeword 5 Techniques 6 Troubleshooting 13 Materials used 15 Crocheting the base 17 Spaces for the cord 20 Fastening off the bag 21 Wayuu Mochila Patterns 22 Hourglass 22 Large Flower 28 Azulejo Tiles 32 Diamonds 36 Little Flowers 40 Plain and sparkly stripes 45 Cross 50 Flamingo 55 Traditional 59 Maze 65 Making the shoulder strap 69 Making the drawstring 92

Book SynopsisFuroshiki is a traditional Japanese wrapping cloth, and is used to wrap gifts and create bags for carrying things more easily. Once you have learned the basic methods of tying and folding, you can tie furoshiki in different ways to suit the size and shape of the contents within. There is no sewing involved and, using just a square of fabric, Aurélie Le Marec shows you how to wrap all kinds of items from books to guitars and laptops to wine bottles. You can adapt furoshiki to suit items of all shapes and sizes and, with more than 50 furoshiki folds explained with step-by-step illustrations and clear instructions, you can help to reduce waste by making furoshiki part of your everyday life!Trade ReviewFrench author Le Marec tries her hand at explaining an ancient Japanese art. As she points out, furoshiki is the ultimate, ecologically perfect answer to the plastic-bag epidemic, as it advocates reusing or reconstructing fabric into a covering that can often get double or even triple use as a tablecloth, picnic setting, or part of a larger item, like a quilt. An upfront section outlines the history of furoshiki, considerations on "becoming green," and options for fabrics, sizes, colours, and patterns. Black-and-white illustrations show the how-tos of different fabric knotting methods within the first few pages and are also embedded in each of the 50-plus projects, along with a quality colour photograph of the finished piece. Across three categories (for carrying, gift wrapping, and decorating), Le Marec showcases practical projects like a laptop bag, flower or bottle wrap, and a ready-to-hug bunny wrap that could encompass a kid’s toy. -- Barbara Jacobs * Booklist *Furoshiki is a traditional Japanese wrapping cloth that's folded to create bags for carrying things. Furoshiki is an ancient Japanese technique for wrapping with a simple square of fabric. First used in 710 AD, the author touches on the history of Furoshiki as well as the meaning and symbolism of giving a beautifully wrapped gift. She also shares how Furoshiki has become the symbol of Mottainai in Japan (avoiding waste and the philosophy of reduce, reuse and recycle). The art of wrapping is not only creative but is an easy step in saying goodbye to plastic bags and gift wrap and using natural or recycled fabric materials instead. Full of colour photographs and illustrations, the author shows the various knots and takes you step-by-step through over 50 different projects. The beauty of this technique is that there are thousands of possibilities for using Furoshiki in your daily life from wrapping plant pots, creating handbags and carry-alls to wrapping books and bottles, making cushions, and even a guitar case to name a few. I've attached a photo of the laptop carrier I made which proved to be very strong and much prettier than my old laptop bag! Taschen GmbH The adidas Archive. The Footwear Collection. 40th
Book SynopsisMore than 100 years ago the brothers Adolf ("Adi") and Rudolf Dassler made their first pair of sports shoes. Hundreds of groundbreaking designs, epic moments, and star-studded collabs later, this book presents a visual review of the adidas shoe through almost 200 models. To further develop and tailor his products to athletes’ specific needs, Dassler asked them to return their worn footwear when no longer needed, with all the shoes eventually ending up in his attic (to this day, many athletes return their shoes to adidas, often as a thank you after winning a title or breaking a world record). This collection now makes up the "adidas archive", one of the largest, if not the largest archive of any sports goods manufacturer in the world—which photographers Christian Habermeier and Sebastian Jäger have been visually documenting in extreme detail for years.Shot using the highest reproduction techniques, these images reveal the fine details as much as the stains, the tears, the repair tape, the grass smudges, the faded autographs. It’s all here, unmanipulated and captured in extremely high resolution—and with it comes to light the personal stories of each individual wearer. We encounter the shoes worn by West Germany’s football team during its “miraculous” 1954 World Cup win and those worn by Kathrine Switzer when she ran the Boston Marathon in 1967, before women were officially allowed to compete; custom models for stars from Madonna to Lionel Messi; collabs with the likes of Pharrell Williams, Raf Simons, Stella McCartneyor Yohji Yamamoto; as well as the brand’s trailblazing techniques and materials.Accompanied by expert texts, each picture tells us the why and the how, but also conveys the driving force behind adidas. What we discover goes beyond mere design; in the end, these are just shoes, worn out by their users who have loved them—but they are also first-hand witnesses of our sports, design, and culture history, from the beginnings of the Dassler brothers and the founding of adidas until today.Trade Review“The smudges, the stains, the tears, the history and all 350 models feature in extremely high detail in this extraordinary tribute to this remarkable brand.” * Forbes *“A must for lovers of the footwear brand.” * GQ *

Search Press Ltd Fabulous Felt: 30 Easy-to-Sew Accessories and
Book Synopsis30 easy-to-make, stylish decorations all made from felt. The book includes templates, a comprehensive techniques section, guide to embroidery stitches and beautiful hand-drawn illustrations to accompany every project. The fabulous projects include mug hugs, hanging decorations, seasonal decorations, pillows, ornaments, wall-organisers, brooches, children’s toys and much more.Trade ReviewSeptember 2016 This book, the second from Yorkshire based designer Corinne Lapierre, is packed full of 30 craft patterns sewn using felt. It is easy to think of felt being used to make decorations, but this although the book does have patterns for lots of hangers and brooches, it also contains projects for the home, such as a wall hanging organiser, a mug cosy and a cushion. I was attracted to the wide variety of designsl, and the Scandinavian influence stops the book from looking too 'cutesy'. Sometimes felt books can feel like they are aimed at children, but the choice of designs and colours prevents this, and many of the projects feel very grown up. However, it would also be an ideal present for a child, as the patterns are well written and easy to follow, plus felt is a good introduction to using a needle and thread. The beginning of the book has clear photographs with the embroidery stitches and it is this addition which really enhances the designs. There is something very satisfying about makng items from felt. With no raw edges to worry about it is easy to get lost in playing with colour, cutting and stitching, and this book will provide you with enough inspiration to keep you sewing all through the year. * Popular Patchwork *Wool felt is the medium for the quirky, cute projects in designer Lapierre’s debut collection. The book opens with several brief tutorials on stitching and embroidering felt, including information about transferring embroidery patterns from templates and a detailed guide to the basic embroidery stitches used in the projects. This is followed by three seasonally inspired groups of accessories and embellishments, as well as a final “catch-all” chapter featuring a number of nature-and-animal-themed projects. Each project features a list of tools and supplies required (including the amount of felt needed in each color) as well as step-by-step instructions for completing the project with line drawings or photographs of key points. Projects span the small and simple, such as the carefully folded rose brooch, to intricate and complex, such as the owl pillow. Everything is hand-sewn and hand-embroidered, so a sewing machine isn’t required. Some basic sewing knowledge is assumed—there’s no information about cutting pattern pieces or constructing stuffed toys—but wool felt is a forgiving material and beginners should be able to work their way through the projects. VERDICT Sewists looking for “slow-sewing” projects or hand-stitchers desiring fun projects to embellish will be drawn to Lapierre’s adorable designs. * Library Journal USA *Fabulous Felt by Corinne Lopierre is a lovely book that gives you inspiration and projects to cover all seasons! There are 10 pages of techniques and stitches so this book is good for anyone new to working with felt. There are a number of projects for Summer, Spring, Autumn and Winter and these include both Easter and Christmas decorations and even Halloween. All the templates needed for the projects are in the back of the book and only a few require photocopying at more than 100% so most can be traced directly from the book. The instructions are clear and there are some lovely photos to help guide you! Overall I'm really pleased with this book! * Gemma Cornish *With 30 projects that are very appealing, it's really nice when it has all the information we need to get started. It gives extra motivation, when everything you need is at your fingers from start to finish. It comes with a step by step guide, amazing and lovely photos, good attention to details and all the templates needed are also provided. Absolutely love it and will definitely recomend it to friends. * Ana Afonso *Still working my way through this fabulous book. I'm a totally beginner to felting and have found this book excellent for newbies! The instructions are clear yet concise to follow and the patterns included are fabulous! I've picked out my first project and slowly working my way through- can't wait for it to be finished so I can pick another! * Helen Louise *This beautifully photographed book will appeal to both kids and adults. It's full of gorgeous contemporary scandi/folk style felt projects (30 to be exact) that are suitable for beginners and more advanced crafters. Each project contains details of materials and tools required plus step by instructions that are accompanied by clear photographs or illustrations. The templates at the back of the book are easy to trace and duplicate plus they are mainly true to size with the exception of a few that need to be enlarged 200%. My girls (9,9,10) are all totally smitten with the book and love how quick many of the makes are. They have started to create the most delightful gifts for friends, teachers and themselves and all the time they are slowly learning new stitching techniques that they can apply elsewhere. #ReviewItFriday * Blue Bear Wood *This book is colourful and very well set out with makes for both novices and experienced crafters. It ranges from small brooches and decorations to larger cushions and wall hangings. The step by step instructions, patterns and photography are very clear and it is easy for children to follow too. Thirty lovely items to keep you entertained crafting throughout the year. I am now looking forward to the next book by Corinne Lapierre. * Lynn Harris *Fabulous Felt by Corinne Lapierre is a delightful book that will suit beginners and experienced crafters alike. It would make a wonderful gift for beginners to encourage them since the instructions, lists of materials and descriptions of how to make the projects are clear and concise. Patterns are included and there is a lovely range of projects to choose from. More experience crafters could adapt the projects and make them more intricate as desired as a springboard for personal creativity. Instructions include the basic skills needed to embark on the projects from scratch and together with the colour photos make the book very accessible. The projects are so inspiring and some would be suitable for family craft sessions on a wet holiday. The finished projects would be lovely as handmade personal presents if you could bear to part with them or could be given as cutout kits for crafty recipient to make up for themselves. All in all it is a delightful book that would be inspiring to purchase or receive as a present. Thanks to Corinne for the hardworking and inspiration included in it. I already have a project picked out but have also found myself just picking up the book and reading it since it is so charming to browse through too. * Dianne Barnett *I received this book as a gift. I'm not the best crafter but my daughter is very much into creating things, so I was hoping it would give me easy to sew projects we would be able to do together. I find the book very clear structured. The projects are very charming, shown with very good photography and small enough for me as a beginner to try out. I was concerned not to manage to follow the instructions but the first few pages help understand terminology and give clear guidance applique and various stitches required. The templates are also very useful. I'm very happy with the book and am looking forward to trying our first project - the butterfly and flower hanging. * Nicole Selley *Fabulous Felt is a fantastic tutorial book with beautiful full-colour photography throughout. Each page is full of information and written in an simple, easy to understand format. There are thirty patterns included but these can be easily adapted to your own ideas and imagination. She patiently explains how to do each stitch in the project in the first few pages, using excellent photos to show how they are done. I like the fact that it is sectioned into themes, e.g. Summer Garden, Spring and Summer, etc. Every project is easy to find with the contents page at the front. There is an abundance of templates at the back and only a few of them need to be enlarged - always a bonus for me! I particularly like the chicken projects and have the perfect felt ready to do this. Each project has a small section on the side, detailing what templates, tools and material is needed. I really enjoyed looking through this and will definitely be using this book for years to come. 10/10. * Kaiserin Maggs *Fantastic book, very clearly written with excellent photographs. The part showing how to do some of the stitches is great for beginners and those of us who have forgotten how to do some! There are projects for everyone, children would be able to do some of them, or help someone older to do them. there is something for everyone and all seasons in this great book * Donna Hall *This book is set out well with clear photos showing the different techniques and equipment used to create the projects, exactly what I look for when attempting something new. The templates are clearly labelled and are printed with a thick enough line to accurately trace around. The instructions are comprehensive, easy to understand and along with the photos show exactly how each project should be completed. As felt comes in such wonderful colours, it would be easy to stray from the suggested colours to come up with personalised projects. Experimenting with the template sizes would help get much more out of this book, I'm thinking of enlarging the Woodland Mobile to make bunting for my campervan and shrinking the Lavender Sardines and adding a magnet to each one to make a fishing game! * Sarah Dennis *Lovely book well written. The projects are clearly explained and easy to make with fabulous photographs to help. All the templates are at the back of the book and easy to use. All the stitches are also clearly explained making the projects a delight to make. Highly recommended. * Jen English *June 2016 We love Corinne Lapierre's style and felt kits she produces and so we're excited to learn that she hasa a second fabulous new book coming out. You'll be glad to hear we weren't disappointed. Corinnehas designed 30 brilliant new scandi-style felt creations that are suitable for both the complete beginner as well as more experienced crafters, Split into four chapters: Summer Garden, Spring & Easter, Autumn & Winter and Home and Lifestyle, there's plenty to choose from yourself, your home and love ones. * Love to Make *Comment For all the projects Lapierre recommends felting material made from a blend of wool/viscose. Apart from supplying yourself with good quality felt, you do not need to equip yourself with much more than a basic sewing kit will provide. Some projects require the use of fusible webbing, plain tissue paper and toy stuffing and it would be enhancing to purchase some special threads, plus beads, buttons etc to make results extra pleasing. The book is suitable for crafters working at all levels. Techniques are shown in close up photography and there are templates at the back of the book. With the exception of just one of two designs the designs geared for children do not include small parts. Conclusion :How lovely that author Corinne Lapierre grew up with a creative Mum who inspired her! I see a lot of craft books but I was really taken aback by the stunning, yet gloriously simplistic layout of this one. I will be very quick to recommend Lapierre and her work in the future, plus the book itself. The felt designs are pretty fabulous so the book lives up to its bold title. This book has been received very well with 100% 5 star reviews on Amazon * Debra Hall -Notcompulsory.blogspot.co.uk *Find 30 little contemporary projects suitable for complete beginners. I think the front cover just about says it all for this book. Colourful, cute, desirable and fun projects. The book is split into chapters: Summer Garden; Spring & Easter; Autumn & Winter and Home & Lifestyle. The techniques section includes the basic techniques needed and the stitches used. Even children could easily master this, under supervision. There isn’t anything to dislike. It’s full of easy yet stylish projects using bought felt, well photographed and foolproof. There are templates too, some need to be enlarged. * Karen Platt- yarnsandfabrics.co.uk *Table of ContentsIntroduction 6 Materials & equipment 8 Techniques 10 Embroidery stitches 14 SUMMER GARDEN 20 Beach Hut Bunting 22 Rose Brooches 26 Flower Brooches 30 Lavender Sardines 32 Racoon & Fox 34 Spring & EASTER 38 Hen Egg Cosies 40 Bird Hanging 42 Easter Decorations 44 Spring Hanging 48 Butterfly & Flower Hanging 50 Decorative Rabbits 52 AUTUMN & WINTER 56 Christmas Lavender Bag 58 Woodland Mobile 60 Halloween Decorations 64 Christmas Pixie 68 Scandi Houses 70 Mug Cosy 72 Heart Hanging 74 Christmas Clog & Mitten 76 Scandi Horse 78 HOME & LIFESTYLE 80 Bag Charm 82 Russian Doll 84 Sleepy Fox Brooch 88 Scandi-Style Pillow 90 Owl Pillow 94 Sleepy Fox Pillow 98 Toy Bunny 102 Wall Hanging Organiser 106 Hedgehog Pillow 110 Children’s Wall Hanging 114 Templates 116

Taschen GmbH The adidas Archive. The Footwear Collection
Book Synopsis100 years ago the brothers Adolf ("Adi") and Rudolf Dassler made their first pair of sports shoes. Hundreds of groundbreaking designs, epic moments, and star-studded collabs later, this book presents the first visual review of the adidas shoe through more than 350 models including never-before-seen prototypes and one-of-a-kind originals. To further develop and tailor his products to athletes’ specific needs, Dassler asked them to return their worn footwear when no longer needed, with all the shoes eventually ending up in his attic (to this day, many athletes return their shoes to adidas, often as a thank you after winning a title or breaking a world record). This collection now makes up the "adidas archive", one of the largest, if not the largest archive of any sports goods manufacturer in the world—which photographers Christian Habermeier and Sebastian Jäger have been visually documenting in extreme detail for years. Shot using the highest reproduction techniques, these images reveal the fine details as much as the stains, the tears, the repair tape, the grass smudges, the faded autographs. It’s all here, unmanipulated and captured in extremely high resolution—and with it comes to light the personal stories of each individual wearer. We encounter the shoes worn by West Germany’s football team during its “miraculous” 1954 World Cup win and those worn by Kathrine Switzer when she ran the Boston Marathon in 1967, before women were officially allowed to compete; custom models for stars from Madonna to Lionel Messi; collabs with the likes of Pharrell Williams, Raf Simons, Stella McCartney, Parley for the Oceans or Yohji Yamamoto; as well as the brand’s trailblazing techniques and materials, like its pioneering use of plastic waste that is intercepted from beaches and coastal communities. With a foreword by designer Jacques Chassaing and expert texts, each picture tells us the why and the how, but also conveys the driving force behind adidas. What we discover goes beyond mere design; in the end, these are just shoes, worn out by their users who have loved them—but they are also first-hand witnesses of our sports, design, and culture history, from the beginnings of the Dassler brothers and the founding of adidas until today.Trade Review“The smudges, the stains, the tears, the history and all 350 models feature in extremely high detail in this extraordinary tribute to this remarkable brand.” * Forbes *“A must for lovers of the footwear brand.” * GQ *“This book tells you everything you ever wanted to know about Adidas sneakers.” * highsnobiety.com *“A mecca for sneakerheads.” * robbreport.com *

Distributed Art Publishers Lee Alexander McQueen: Mind, Mythos, Muse
Book SynopsisMcQueen’s iconic fashion juxtaposed with historic textiles and works of art, revealing the designer’s dynamic approach to storytelling One of the most significant contributors to fashion between 1990 and 2010, British designer Lee Alexander McQueen was both a conceptual and a technical virtuoso. His critically acclaimed collections synthesized his unique training in Savile Row tailoring, theatrical design and haute couture with a remarkable breadth and depth of encyclopedic and autobiographical references spanning time, geography, mediums and technology. McQueen’s singular viewpoint produced exquisitely constructed, thought-provoking, often subversive or allegorical fashion. Taking a reflective look at McQueen’s artful design process, this book documents the designer’s diverse sources of inspiration by displaying McQueen’s imaginative fashions alongside related artworks. McQueen's encyclopedic references range from ancient Greece and Rome to Tibetan silk brocade patterns, 17th-century Dutch painting, the prints of Goya and the films of Stanley Kubrick. In each of these cases and beyond, examples of McQueen’s imaginative and extraordinary work are displayed alongside artworks from LACMA’s permanent collection. Spanning art from a multitude of mediums, eras and cultures, this publication provides a new and innovative assessment of McQueen’s work and highlights his mindful approach to storytelling and construction through fashion. Lee Alexander McQueen (1969–2010) was one of the most important fashion designers at the turn of the 21st century. In 2011, following his death, the Costume Institute in New York organized an enormously successful retrospective of his work at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.Trade ReviewFeatures McQueen as a standout designer who interpreted global influences through his idiosyncratic perspective. Through the medium of fashion, he spun history into fantasy. And what fantasies they were. -- Anne Wallentine * Hyperallergic *Manages to both celebrate the dark mirth that informed McQueen’s designs while also paying respect to his seriousness as a craftsman. -- Michael Callahan * W Magazine *
