Book Synopsis''Punchily written He leaves the reader with a sense of the gross injustice of a world where health outcomes are so unevenly distributed'' Times Literary Supplement''Splendid and necessary'' Henry Marsh, author of Do No Harm, New StatesmanThere are dramatic differences in health between countries and within countries. But this is not a simple matter of rich and poor.A poor man in Glasgow is rich compared to the average Indian, but the Glaswegian's life expectancy is 8 years shorter. The Indian is dying of infectious disease linked to his poverty; the Glaswegian of violent death, suicide, heart disease linked to a rich country's version of disadvantage. In all countries, people at relative social disadvantage suffer health disadvantage, dramatically so. Within countries, the higher the social status of individuals the better is their health. These health inequalities defy usual explanations. Conventional approaches to improving health have emphasised Trade ReviewSplendid and necessary -- Henry Marsh, author of 'Do No Harm' * New Statesman *Michael Marmot was one of the most impressive people I worked with in my time as Health Secretary. He points out, with patience and precision, that there is nothing inevitable about health inequalities. This important book is a rarity – an astute academic analysis that entertains as much as it informs * Rt Hon Alan Johnson MP *Michael Marmot reveals that the average person would have eight extra years of healthy life if they had the same opportunities as the richest in our society … It’s time to stop seeing health as a matter of lifestyle choice and start campaigning for justice – for all our sakes * Observer *Punchily written … He leaves the reader with a sense of the gross injustice of a world where health outcomes are so unevenly distributed -- Bee Wilson * Times Literary Supplement *The animating idea behind Marmot’s life work is that social injustice is bad for our health. Hodder & Stoughton Super Gut
Book SynopsisBestselling author of the Wheat Belly franchise brings his next big, game changing idea - the human microbiome and the silent epidemic of SIBO - to the mainstream.Dr Davis has connected the dots between ''gut health'' and many common, modern ailments and complaints. 1 in 3 people have SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), which causes a long list of health issues and illnesses; it is a silent and profound epidemic created by the absence of microbial species that our ancestors had even 50-100 years ago, which have been erased by the industrialisation of food and medicine. Super Gut shares a four-week plan to reprogram your microbiome based on research and techniques that not only gets to the root of many diseases but improves levels of oxytocin (the bonding/happy hormone), brain health and promotes anti-aging and weight loss. Dr Davis provides not just the science and case studies but also more than 40 recipes and solutions. In Super GuTrade ReviewSuper Gut reveals how virtually every aspect of our health is fundamentally influenced by the vast array of microscopic organisms living upon and within us. Dr Davis makes it clear that so many issues related to living in our modern world challenge this relationship and set the stage for illness. But the good news, as Super Gut so eloquently portrays, centres on our new found ability to improve the health and functionality of the vast array of microbes upon which we depend. It's clear that we can manipulate this relationship to our advantage. And Dr Davis shows us how. -- David Perlmutter, MD, author, #1 New York Times bestseller, Grain Brain, and Drop AcidReading Super Gut is reading an incredibly important manual on building the super 'hard drive' for a long, healthy, and productive life.... With easy to implement, inexpensive recommendations, it won't be long before you're forever grateful you took the time to read and implement.... All disease begins in the gut. So build a Super Gut! -- Dr Tom O’Bryan, author of The Autoimmune Fix and You Can Fix Your BrainSuper Gut brings the conversation into new territory. Bacteria are not the bad guys! Dr Davis' plan helps you replenish the microbiome and eliminate those culprits that are depleting us of essential natural probiotics that maintain a healthy gut. Microbiome medicine is an essential part of good health, disease prevention, vitality, and longevity. Bravo to Dr Davis on this newest addition to the literature. -- Dr Raphael Kellman, founder of Microbiome Medicine, author of The Microbiome Diet, The Microbiome Breakthrough, Microbiome ThyroidUnlike other books on the microbiome, Dr Davis has taken the conversation several steps further by showing how lost microbes can be restored and how an epidemic of overgrowth of undesirable species can be pushed back with often spectacular results. He packs the book with specific strategies and recipes so that the reader is well-equipped to regain health, vigour, even youthfulness. -- Dr Mark Hyman, New York Times bestselling author of The Pegan DietAn intriguing look into the science of the gut microbiome, and its implications for human health. Dr Davis brings his usual light to this area of science and follows that up with some practical advice. -- Dr Jason Fung, New York Times bestselling author of The Obesity Code

HarperCollins Publishers I Think Youll Find Its a Bit More Complicated
Book SynopsisThe very best journalism from one of Britain's most admired and outspoken science writers, author of the bestselling Bad Science and Bad Pharma. In Bad Science, Ben Goldacre hilariously exposed the tricks that quacks and journalists use to distort science. In Bad Pharma, he put the $600 billion global pharmaceutical industry under the microscope. Now the pick of the journalism by one of our wittiiest, most indignant and most fearless commentators on the worlds of medicine and science is collected in one volume.Trade Review‘In a busy world where most of us believe what we’re told, the science writer Goldacre looks behind the quackery. “Science is squabble,” he says: he uses close critical appraisal to show that many medical claims are akin to magic and that television presents “real” science as cheap stage effects. And don’t even get him started on bad academia, biased government and credulous media. In short, everything you take at face value is wrong. Maybe even this review: now read Ben.’ The Times ‘Witty and snarky and made me laugh out loud’ Independent on Sunday ‘An accessible and amusing rant on science and society’ Monocle From the reviews of ‘Bad Science’: ‘For sheer savagery, the illusion-destroying, joyous attack on the self-regarding, know-nothing orthodoxies of the modern middle classes, “Bad Science” can not be beaten. You’ll laugh your head off, then throw all those expensive health foods in the bin.’ Trevor Philips, Observer (Book of the Year) ‘Unmissable…laying about himself in a froth of entirely justified indignation, Goldacre slams the mountebanks and bullshitters who misuse science. Few escape: drug companies, self-styled nutritionists, deluded researchers and journalists all get thoroughly duffed up. It is enormously enjoyable.’ The Times (Book of the Year) From the reviews of ‘Bad Pharma’: ‘This is a book to make you enraged – properly, bone-shakingly furious…A work of brilliance.’ Daily Telegraph ‘An important book. Ben Goldacre is angry, and by the time you put ‘Bad Pharma’ down, you should be too.’ New Statesman ‘A book that deserves to be widely read, because anyone who does read it cannot help feeling both uncomfortable and angry.’ Economist

Book SynopsisTrade Review'Bingham and Hames’s accessible, edge-of-the-seat account of how British innovators vaccinated the UK and much of the rest of the world is also a quiet, compelling, non-partisan argument for dialogue between business and politics.' -- Telegraph'Fast-paced and very compelling… The Vaccine Taskforce will always be remembered as British science at its very best.' -- Sir Jonathan Symonds, Chairman of GlaxoSmithKline'The Long Shot is a book about procurement — not normally a subject for a gripping tale. Yet in this case we are dealing with the most successful procurement exercise of our times. And luckily, Bingham delivers on her punchy promise in the prologue to "tell it like it is". As an outsider rooted in business, she offers strong and specific recommendations for transforming government. Most deliciously, she names names.' -- Financial Times'Written with compelling verve and complete authority, this book describes how Kate Bingham ensured that Covid-19 vaccines would be made available to the UK. But the book does more than that. It also demonstrates how science and the effective application of science are critical to solving the world’s problems, and that these solutions will only be delivered with a razor-sharp focus on outcomes rather than on following procedures.' -- Sir Paul Nurse, Nobel Prize laureate'Frank and fascinating.' -- Nature'Kate Bingham’s new book, The Long Shot, is a gripping account of the UK Government Vaccine Task Force’s response to the pandemic by a remarkable, determined, thoughtful, and practical individual who was at the heart of the critical decisions that had to be made. I spoke with her frequently through 2020 as we battled logistical headwinds and the media storms in development of the Oxford vaccine and was always better for our chats, absorbing the positive energy that she emanates and benefiting from her wisdom. Her clarity of thought and action in a such a dark and turbulent time is a seam running through the book, and I know for certain that her efforts saved many lives. But I have to disagree with the title, because the book shows that it really wasn’t such a "long shot" with Kate at the helm.' -- Professor Sir Andrew Pollard, Director of the Oxford Vaccine Group at the University of Oxford‘A blueprint of how industry, academia and government can work together to address a question of global importance, with lessons for other future crises.’ -- John Tregoning, author of Infectious'An excellent read… Capturing the exceptional pace and energy of everyone involved in discovering and producing effective therapies against Covid-19. All in all, this is a book I will treasure.' -- Sir Mene Pangalos, Executive Vice President of AstraZeneca'Essential reading for anyone seeking to learn the lessons of the Covid-19 pandemic.’ -- Matthew Partridge, Money Week‘An incisive behind-the-scenes look at the challenges Bingham faced in her role… The authors combine a lucid explanation of the scientific breakthroughs needed to create the first Covid vaccine with an insider look at the politics that hampered the taskforce’s efforts. Ebury Publishing The Pandemic Century
Book SynopsisA Financial Times Best Book of the Year The most timely and informative history book you will read this year, tracing a century of pandemics, with a new chapter on COVID-19.Ever since the 1918 Spanish influenza pandemic, scientists have dreamed of preventing catastrophic outbreaks of infectious disease. Yet, despite a century of medical progress, viral and bacterial disasters continue to take us by surprise, inciting panic and dominating news cycles. From the Spanish flu and the 1924 outbreak of pneumonic plague in Los Angeles, to the 1930 ''parrot fever'' pandemic and the more recent SARS, Ebola, Zika and now COVID-19 epidemics, the last 100 years have been marked by a succession of unanticipated pandemic alarms. In The Pandemic Century, Mark Honigsbaum chronicles 100 years of history in 10 outbreaks. Bringing us right up-to-date with a new chapter on COVID-19, this fast-paced, critically-acclaimed book combines science history,Trade Review[A] riveting, vivid history of modern disease outbreaks ... A fascinating account of a deeply important topic—for if the past 100 years have taught us anything, it is that new diseases and viral strains will inevitably beset us, no matter how sophisticated science becomes. * Robin McKie, The Observer *A lively but less than reassuring read for those on exotic travels. * Anjana Ahuja, Financial Times *Some of the scenes in Mark Honigsbaum’s The Pandemic Century were so vivid they had me drafting movie treatments in my head ... The moral of his cogent tale is that the next deadly pandemic is not a matter of if but of when, and preparing for that fact is a far better prescription than reacting with panic, fear, or indifference. * Howard Markel, MD, PhD, George E. What are these invisible enemies, and how can we prepare ourselves for the pandemics of the future? He provides a concise account of epidemics that changed history, and focuses on the great modern plagues that are still causing millions of deaths every year, from influenza, TB and malaria to COVID-19. The Liffey Press Post-Pandemic: 12 Lessons in Crisis Management
Book SynopsisThe world economy had barely recovered from the global financial crisis when the COVID-19 pandemic struck and knocked it back to the floor. Governments already struggling with low growth and high debt have, once again, been forced to take extraordinary measures to protect businesses and jobs. The future looks grim. The pandemic swept across the globe in 2020 as quickly as confidence in the banking system had vanished in 2008. In Ireland, only the tough decisions of a small group of regulators and officials kept the country from collapse, though the price of salvation was a huge national debt and years of lost opportunities. As a key insider to the Irish bailout, Jonathan McMahon was at the heart of the response, witnessing what it takes to manage a crisis that threatens a nation. Battle-hardened by his experiences at the top of UK financial regulation during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Jonathan's advice on how to deal with crises is invaluable as countries all around the globe grapple with the effects of COVID-19. Jonathan does not have all the answers, but as Henry David Thoreau said, "It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see." Jonathan argues that we have to attend to the real, underlying causes of crises, not expediently dodge the difficult choices to be made. The bitter truth is that even if a vaccine is found to eradicate the virus, the huge challenges facing political and business leaders will persist. Post-Pandemic is essential reading as we make decisions about our future. It is a book for our times. "… a magnificent book. McMahon brings his policy experience … to give us key lessons of looking at the data, making judgements, and acting quickly before the problems become unmanageable. … [W]ritten in a fun, racy style … in the post-pandemic world of pervasive uncertainty, it carries profound messages." – Ashoka Mody, Visiting Professor in International Economic Policy at Princeton University, former Assistant Director with the International Monetary Fund and author of EuroTragedy: A Drama in Nine Acts "Can our reactions to the previous crisis help us navigate the post-pandemic economic recovery? Drawing on a shrewd interpretation of his experience in Ireland a decade ago, and illustrating the discussion with vivid cameos, Jonathan McMahon makes a persuasive case that they can. A lively and instructive read." – Professor Patrick Honohan, former Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland and author of Currency, Credit and Crisis: Central Banking in Ireland and Europe. "The Covid 19 pandemic has produced an economic crisis which, as usual, is quite unlike its predecessors. But Jonathan McMahon shows that there are some enduring principles which should govern crisis management. He has drawn on his experience in the eye of the storm in the euro zone banking crisis to write an entertaining and extremely useful book." – Sir Howard Davies, Chairman of the Royal Bank of Scotland and former Director of the London School of Economics.

Skyhorse Publishing Vaccines
Book SynopsisThe word vaccine derives from the Latin word for cow. The English physician, Edward Jenner, coined it in his 1798 pamphlet An Inquiry into the Causes and Effects of the Variolae Vaccinae. The last two Latin words mean Smallpox of the Cow, or cowpox. Jenner postulated that cowpox causes mild disease in humans while protecting them from the more dangerous smallpox. His proposal for inoculation with a weak form of disease-causing matter to prevent serious illness became the central concept of infectious disease medicine and has remained so ever since. The word vaccine was subsequently applied to immunizations against all infectious diseases. Its etymology is amazingly apt, because vaccines are the ultimate sacred cow. Vaccines: Mythology, Ideology, and Reality tells the story of this technology and the celebrated men who developed it with some success, but also with failures that are never mentioned in the celebratory literature on vaccines. Vaccine advocates often proclaim that they follow the science, but most vaccine development has been a matter of guesses, gambles, and wild experimentation. Its key figures have been biased by religious faith, wishful thinking, ideology, and a desire for recognition and money. Though credit is due to some vaccines for reducing infectious disease morbidity and mortality, their contribution to public health in developed nations has been grossly exaggerated by propagandists. Dramatic improvements in nutrition and sanitation were the primary drivers of this trend. The authors do not dismiss the concept of vaccination but seek to promote a more informed and less dogmatic discussion about its risks and benefits. Critical evaluation can only make the technology safer and more effective.

Oxford University Press Steering Against Superbugs The Global Governance
Book SynopsisAMR is arguably one of the most severe long-term threats to human, animal, and environmental health. There is momentum for global political action around novel and emerging disease threats and Steering Against Superbugs contributes with original and insightful research to inform ongoing and future debates.Trade ReviewThis volume collects together key insights from across social sciences on AMR governance. AMR is now the third-leading underlying cause of death globally, which is why a global approach and global governance is necessary. Through a global perspective, the case studies in this volume highlight both successes and challenges of local, regional, and global governance for AMR. As we work together across the world to tackle the 'silent' AMR pandemic, I strongly recommend this book for all in the global and public health and policy sphere to help galvanise action to address the insidious and complex health emergency of AMR. * Professor Dame Sally Davies, UK Special Envoy on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) *Steering Against Superbugs comprehensively unpacks the root social drivers of antimicrobial resistance and masterfully situates these drivers in their cultural, historical and political contexts. Rubin, Baekkeskov, and Munkholm have brought together some of the world's leading thinkers in this field and have pro¬vided us with some of the best ideas yet to tackle this intensifying global health challenge that already kills more than 1.2 million people each year. * Professor Steven J. Hoffman, Director of the Global Strategy Lab and the WHO Collaborating Centre on Global Governance of Antimicrobial Resistance, York University, Canada *This exciting volume achieves what many have been waiting for: a compen¬dium of social science approaches to antimicrobial resistance. With a focus on governance, the authors demonstrate the strengths of different disciplines by providing evidence at multiple scales of the ways in which antibiotics, and drug resistance, is-and can be-governed. From clinics, to bednets, to global policy spaces, the book introduces the reader to detailed case studies that enlighten and awaken interest in the multiple dimensions that make up the complex challenge of antimicrobial resistance globally. * Professor Clare Chandler, Anthropology of Antimicrobial Resistance lead and founding Director, AMR Centre, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. *Microbes, humans, One Health, and the interplay between them through AMR. This book introduces the reader to the conceptual issues of AMR, and then steers her through governance challenges, One Health aspects, global awareness, advocacy and regulatory matters. This is essential reading, not just for those working in this critical field but also for policy- makers, healthcare leaders, One Health professionals, and the wider community-providing an armament of knowledge, insight, and perspectives in the fight against AMR. * Professor & Head Sujith J Chandy, Department of Pharmacology & Clinical Pharmacology, Christian Medical College Vellore, India *Table of Contents1: Steering against Superbugs: Research agenda and four perspectives for global governance Part I: Framing and conceptualizing AMR 2: Pills and Politics - a historical analysis of international antibiotic regulation since 1945 3: Global eradicationism and AMR 4: Conceptualizing AMR as a creeping disaster in terms of pace and space Part II: Coordination and leadership in AMR governance 5: Combatting AMR in the EU - governmental dimensions 6: Contested governance of collective action against AMR in the EU 7: What would it take to move the global AMR agenda forward in the Global South? Gibson Square Books Ltd Blinded by Corona: How the Pandemic Ruined
Book SynopsisProfessor Ashton has lifelong hands-on experience and a deep scholarly understanding of the science of public health, a discipline invented in Britain. In this scathing critique he notes that nothing that the UK government has done to deal with COVID-19 is recognisable against two centuries of knowledge. Instead, it is designing untested methods at exceptional expense that have created a public-health and economic crisis never seen before. The government should urgently return to the science as set out in Blinded by Corona. From February, Professor Ashton has applied its precepts to Bahrain, where he was appointed special COVID-19 adviser, and the country topped the WHO league in August. It also suffered the least disruption of the economy and social life and did not have a general lockdown.Trade Review'Everyone should read this book. Its powerful and penetrating insight holds our leaders to account - and finds them wanting.' PROFESSOR ROGER KIRBY, PRESIDENT, ROYAL SOCIETY OF MEDICINE;;'Professor Ashton's counsel and knowledge has proven him to be an authoritative figure on how the threat of COVID-19 should be responded to. His early calls for mass testing were quickly heeded to in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and established him as one of the world's leading public health experts on countering COVID-19.' SALMAN BIN KHALIFA, FINANCE MINISTER BAHRAIN;;'Once you start reading this book, it is hard to put down. It puts COVID-19 into the wider trajectory of public health within Britain, and is absolutely devastating on the response of the UK government to the COVID-19 crisis. A must-read for all those interested in understanding what went wrong and why.' DEVI SRIDHAR, PROFESSOR OF PUBLIC HEALTH UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH;;'As with the Hillsborough disaster, the fuel crisis, needle exchange and other crises John Ashton is calling this one correctly here. He was speaking out on COVID-19 before any politician was awake.' GABRIEL SCALLY, MEMBER OF INDEPENDENT SAGE, PRESIDENT OF EPIDEMIOLOGY & PUBLIC HEALTH ROYAL SOCIETY OF MEDICINE;;'John Ashton has public health in his bones. His views are erudite, uncompromising, and humane. He has judged how this pandemic would unfold better than computer simulations and politicians. The answers are in these pages and governments should listen.' PROFESSOR KAMRAN ABBASI, EXECUTIVE EDITOR BRITISH MEDICAL JOURNAL;;'This is an important book. John Ashton shows how and why the catastrophic actions of Boris Johnson's government failed its people and led to many thousands of unnecessary deaths. If we are to avoid similar disasters, read this scorching indictment of those in power.' KEN LOACH;;'In 1847 the much celebrated and revered Doctor William Henry Duncan was appointed as Liverpool's first Medical Officer of Health. Like Dr Duncan, and motivated by a passion for the common good, John Ashton sees the world through the lens of public health. From the outset of the Coronavirus pandemic he has offered trenchant and coherent arguments about how the Government and public-health authorities needed to respond. His insightful book provides a valuable compass and road map as we continue to navigate our way through this pandemic. He also offers sound advice on how to be better prepared for fresh waves of Covid and other potential threats to public health. As Dr Duncan might have said-just what the doctor ordered.' LORD ALTON;;'John Ashton has been the voice of Cassandra throughout the pandemic. He has earned the right to be the first to tell the whole story, showing that we had both experience and knowledge, but failed to use it. But in the face of the arrogance of centralisation, Ashton gives us hope that local communities and expertise are equipped to bring the 2020 pandemic to its conclusion.' Springer International Publishing AG Gender-Based Violence: Perspectives from Africa,
Book SynopsisThis book offers new perspectives on gender-based violence in three regions where the subject has been taboo in everyday discourse often due to patriarchal cultural norms that limit women’s autonomy. The contributions to this book provide rare insight into not only the levels and the socio-demographic determinants of domestic violence, but topics ranging from men’s attitudes toward wife beating; domestic violence-related adolescent deaths, and women’s health problems due to sexual and physical abuse. With a comprehensive introduction that provides a comparative international research framework for discussing gender-based violence in these three unique regions, this volume provides a key basis for understanding gender-based violence on a more global level.Part I, on Africa, covers men’s attitudes towards domestic violence, the impact of poverty and fertility, the association between adolescent deaths and domestic violence, and the link between domestic abuse and HIV.Part II, on the Middle East, covers the importance of consanguinity on domestic violence in Egypt and Jordan, the effects of physical abuse on reproductive health, and the link between political unrests and women’s experience and attitudes towards domestic violence.Part III, on India, shows how sexual abuse puts women at risk of reproductive tract infections and sexually transmitted infections, as well as the role of gender norms in wife abuse and the role of youth aggressive behavior in nonconsensual sex. With such a deep and broad coverage of factors of intimate partner abuse, this book serves as a reference document for researchers, decision-makers, and organizations that are searching for ways to reduce gender-based domestic violence. This book is of interest for researchers in Criminology and Criminal Justice, as well as Sociology, Social Work, Public Health and Human Rights.Table of ContentsIntroduction Yanyi K. Springer Verlag, Singapore Socio-Life Science and the COVID-19 Outbreak:
Book SynopsisThis open access book presents the first step towards building socio-life science, a field of science investigating humans in such a way that both social and life-scientific factors are integrated. Because humans are both living and social creatures, a human action can never be understood fully without knowing both the biological traits of a person and the social scientific environments in which he exists. With this consideration, the editors of this book have initiated a research project promoting a deeper and more integrated understanding of human behavior and human health. This book aims to show what can, and could be, achieved through our interdisciplinary project. One important product is the newly formed three-party collaboration between Pasteur Institut, Kyoto University, and the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry. Covering many different fields, including medicine, epidemiology, anthropology, economics, sociology, demography, geography, and policy, researchers in these institutes, and many others, present their studies on the COVID-19 pandemic. Although based on different methodologies, the studies show the importance of behavioral change and governmental policy in the fight against a huge pandemic. The book explains the unique genome cohort–panel data that the project builds to study social and life scientific aspects of humans.Table of ContentsSARS-CoV-2 variants: Past, present and future.- COVID-19 pandemic and behavioral change: The cases of Florida and Ohio.- Integrating social sciences to mitigate against covid.- Re-thinking the infodemic: Social media and offline action in the COVID-19 pandemic.- Mapping COVID-19 in Japan and greater Tokyo area, socio-spatial and political analysis of the epidemic.- Application of SARS-CoV-2 serology testing: A case study

Skyhorse Publishing Lies My Gov't Told Me: And the Better Future
Book SynopsisA WALL STREET JOURNALNATIONAL BESTSELLER*AS SEEN ON TUCKER CARLSON TODAY AND THE JOE ROGAN EXPERIENCE*A guide for the times—breaking down the lies about COVID-19 and shedding light on why we came to believe them. When he invented the original mRNA vaccine technology as a medical and graduate student in the late 1980s, Robert Malone could not have imagined that he would become a leader in a movement to expose the dangers of mRNA vaccines that billions of people have received—too often without being informed of the risks. For voicing opposition to the “mainstream” narrative, Dr. Robert Malone was censored by Big Tech and vilified by the media. But he continues to speak out and alert the world to the web of lies that we have all experienced. From vaccine safety and effectiveness to early treatments like ivermectin, to lockdowns, masks, and more, Dr. Malone is the signature dissident voice telling the other side of the story about COVID, the role of corporate media, censorship, propaganda, and the brave new world of transhumanism promoted by the World Economic Forum and its acolytes. What effect did the COVID policies have on lives, livelihoods, and democracies? How is it possible that the lies spread by governments would persist, and that our institutions would fail to correct them? Lies My Gov’t Told Me takes a hard look at these questions and illustrates how data, information, and psychology have been distorted during the pandemic. Governments intentionally weaponized fear to mold behavior. The media smeared anyone who objected to the narrative. And Big Pharma—aligned with larger globalist interests exemplified by the likes of Bill Gates and the World Economic Forum—had captured the agencies that are supposed to regulate it long before the pandemic began. Dr. Malone explores these perverse connections between Pharma, government, and media, and tells us what can be done about it. With contributed chapters from other leading thinkers, such as Dr. Paul Marik and Professor Mattias Desmet, and drawing upon history, psychology, and economics, Lies My Gov’t Told Me looks at COVID from numerous angles. Never satisfied with a simple answer or easy solution, Dr. Malone proposes multiple action plans for a better future. Dr. Malone calls on each of us to find our own solutions, our own ways to resist the control of fascist, corporatist, and totalitarian overlords. If we are to step out of the darkness—toward a world that defends the principles of the Constitution, upholds individual rights, and honors free speech—we all must play a part in the transition. Trade Review“One of the most important things about [Malone] reading out [his] history like that is he is one of the most qualified people in the world to talk about vaccines … I'm very grateful that there's courageous people like [Malone] that do put [their] reputations and [their] careers on the line by speaking out against the stuff when it is very difficult and when [they] do get de-platformed for doing that they know that by censoring [him] they're not just censoring [him]; they're also making others like [him] self-censor.” —JOE ROGAN, The Joe Rogan Experience "A courageous streak of idealism and stubborn integrity pitched Dr. Robert Malone off the giddy heights of the Medical Cartel. Stranded in the wilderness, he has emerged as the most important prophet for medical freedom, public health, and civil rights. If we manage to save democracy, and humanity, Robert Malone will get much of the credit."—ROBERT F. KENNEDY JR. “Few people are in a better position than Robert Malone to know what lies the government told us about COVID. And very few are brave enough to expose those lies. Whatever they’re saying about him now, history will record Malone as a hero.”—TUCKER CARLSON "Dr. Robert Malone is among the few courageous doctors and medical researchers who offered us, in his calm and professional way, a science-based second opinion regarding COVID. With contributions from other heroes of the pandemic, this book offers truth that federal health agencies and the media unfortunately failed to provide."—US SENATOR RON JOHNSON, Wisconsin “When our confused and frightened planet was buckling under monolithic government declarations and orders, we needed someone with first-hand expertise and knowledge, someone with integrity and profound courage, to give us clarity and truth. Robert Malone stood up and did that, and these pages tell his story.”—GAVIN DE BECKER, bestselling author of The Gift of Fear “The Administrative State destroyed lives, families, businesses with shutdowns, lockdowns, and mandates related to the CCP/COVID-19 pandemic. When ‘The Vaxx’ and the ‘science’ surrounding it engulfed the Nation and the World, one man, Dr. Robert Malone, came to the forefront in the fight for truth. The Government, Corporate Media and Big Pharma tried to destroy him. This book is the first-person account of a modern day American Hero and Patriot.”—STEVE BANNON “Dr. Malone’s experiences working in basic science and biodefense, along with his incisive analysis, perceptivity, and clarity of thought, make his book a fascinating read that will leave you in wonder and admiration of the breadth and depth of his insights. The forces he understands so well will continue flexing their influence unless deterred by trustworthy leadership and a resistant public.”—JOSEPH LADAPO, MD, PhD, Florida Surgeon General and author of Transcend Fear: A Blueprint for Mindful Leadership in Public Health “Reading this book is a bit like having a surrealistic nightmare, but one you don’t wake up from. Although factual, informative, and not sentimental, the story is blood-curdling—with a magnitude of scandal that defies any imagination. Robert’s deep insights into ‘the system’ leave us with profound disappointment and disdain for all those involved in this crime against humanity, while offering a realistic perspective to our children and grandchildren for a better way forward.” —GEERT VANDEN BOSSCHE, PhD, virologist and vaccine expert, formerly employed at the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) “As the world increasingly wakes up to the realization that great harm has been visited upon humanity, people will be scrambling to understand how this could have ever been possible. I can think of no better guide than Robert Malone. His book offers clear answers and does so with an eloquence and compassion that is Robert’s hallmark. I recommend it to all.”—TESS LAWRIE, MBBCh, PhD, research consultant and director of The Evidence-Based Medicine Consultancy. “Essential reading for anyone willing to comprehend the madness we have endured during the past few years.”—PAUL MARIK, MD, former professor of medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School “Dr. Robert Malone’s expertise and knowledge in the fields of vaccinology and infectious disease countermeasure technology is unparalleled. Despite this, he was systemically banned and censored by big tech and the US government for merely sharing his views. His book provides a road map for our nation to reform our crony capitalist society before even more harm results.”—ANDREW G. HUFF, PhD, MS, author of The Truth About Wuhan: How I Uncovered the Biggest Lie in History “Dr. Malone has deep expertise in the biological sub-disciplines most relevant to COVID-19 science. He also has extensive experience in regulatory affairs and bioethics. He knows how to follow the science to see where it is leading. So, there is no more qualified person on earth to provide insights into what has happened to our world over the past three years than this inventor of mRNA vaccine technology.”—BYRAM W. BRIDLE, PhD, associate professor of viral immunology at the University of Guelph “Dr. Malone’s critical thinking skills were honed while working with US military intelligence. His precise analysis of the COVID ‘science’ was not only accurate, but presciently predicted what is now widely accepted. He exposed the lies and fraud of the COVID narrative early on, including during a Joe Rogan podcast that is among the most watched of all time. This book goes further into the truth that attracted those 50 million views.”—DR. MERCOLA, founder of Mercola.com, the most visited natural health site on the internet for the last twenty years “Melding brainpower with compassion and solid values, Robert and Jill Malone stand out among the COVID truth-tellers. They have stayed grounded; they have continued to act with integrity and grace as they led the rest of us toward truth. Now they have the generosity to produce a work like this: a book that tells us exactly where we are, how we got here, and how we can create the world we must now bring into being.”—MERYL NASS, MD “Robert Malone might have been the most influential critical thinker and voice during the corona crisis. He continued to speak out, no matter how much resistance he met.”—MATTIAS DESMET, professor of clinical psychology at Ghent University “Lies My Gov’t Told Me is the Silent Spring of our time—a clarion call from a courageous scientist with impeccable credentials. Dr. Malone demands we confront the very real dangers of a faux vaccine pimped to the American public by unscrupulous Big Pharma companies in collusion with a Fauci-led health care bureaucracy. The new Republican House majority must use its investigatory powers to lay bare these lies and hold those responsible accountable.” —PETER NAVARRO, author, Taking Back Trump’s America “Dr. Robert Malone gives us an essential, captivating, and comprehensive guide to our historical moment, from lockdowns and mRNA vaccines to the administrative state and the game plan to control people via propaganda and groupthink. A scientist who also has deep knowledge of government, history, politics, and psychology, as well as great personal courage, Dr. Malone gives us this page-turning overview of where we are and how to move forward with our humanity intact.”—NAOMI WOLF, bestselling author of The Beauty Myth "In a time when censorship is rank, you should read everything you are told not to read. In particular, there are six words (that you will find in this book) that the stakeholder capitalists do not want you to hear: ‘Defend your sovereignty. Think for yourself.’ I predict that the demagogic designs of the World Economic Forum will fail and that it will be the principles repeated by Malone—'integrity, dignity and community’—that carry the day.” —JESSICA ROSE, PhD, molecular biologist, biochemist, and immunologist “This is the most thorough, truthful, and meaningful book written on the COVID-19 pandemic and all its manifestations. I was fortunate to graduate with honors from Harvard Medical School, which means I met many great and inspirational physicians and teachers. My contact with Robert Malone during the pandemic, and now having read this book, inclines me to place him among those I have most revered in my life and work.”—GEORGE FAREED, MD "As one of the top vaccinology experts, and the inventor of mRNA technology, Dr. Malone was naturally tapped by the government to help in the early stages of the COVID pandemic. When he began to ask hard questions, the fury of censorship and coordinated personal attacks led him on a journey of self-discovery and awakening. This book reveals the truth of the last two-plus years and exposes how our public health institutions really make the sausage.”—ED DOWD, former Black Rock managing director, author of Cause Unknown “An extraordinary and deeply researched tour through the engineered global brainwashing experiment known as the COVID-19 pandemic. Through hard-hitting, data-driven critiques authored by the brightest medical science thinkers of our time, this book bears witness to the true COVID conspiracy unleashed upon the world. If Western medicine is to be salvaged in the aftermath of this worldwide pandemic fraud, it will require an honest reading of this groundbreaking book that, if properly considered, can change the course of the history of medicine. Dr. Robert Malone and all his co-authors are to be applauded for their courage, determination, and passion, telling the unpopular truth in an age of convenient lies.”—MIKE ADAMS, founder, NaturalNews.com and Brighteon.com "Soon after the madness started, I stumbled across Robert Malone in the forest of the online world. His presence, his voice, what he had to say and why, were balm for my troubled soul. Here in this book is the story that explains why this softly spoken man did what he did. He has been true north for so many who felt utterly lost. I have nothing to offer but gratitude."—NEIL OLIVER, author and GB News host “Major crises have an uncanny effect of causing heroes to miraculously emerge, and such is the case of Dr. Robert Malone. COVID has been the biggest avoidable catastrophe in human history, and society owes Dr. Malone huge admiration for dissecting the key issues so succinctly in this book. Over the last three years, he has steadfastly adhered to the scientific facts and translated them into an actionable counter-narrative for use by activists globally—and all despite relentless and utterly unjustified ad hominem attacks. Bravo, Dr. Malone!”—ROGER HODKINSON, MBBCh, pathologist "Robert Malone has courageously lifted his head to help us better understand the corruption within our federal systems. So many myths are being dispelled, thanks to people like Malone and his wife, and the other contributors in this book. They are among the clearest voices saying NO to the fear-mongering, greed, and arrogance of government power."—SEAN STONE, filmmaker and author “ ‘What went wrong?’ In this multidisciplinary tour de force, biomedical industry insider and Renaissance man Dr. Robert Malone challenges his prior worldview to forge a comprehensive, accessible picture of the sheer scale and ubiquity of institutional failure exposed by the pandemic. Building on his own analysis by incorporating essays by key pandemic thinkers (and doers), he ultimately offers a grounded vision for healing and recovery, both societal and personal. Don’t miss this book!”—JAN JEKIELEK, senior editor at Epoch Times and host of American Thought Leaders “This book is a must-read for those who want to understand how difficult it was for Dr. Malone and other rare voices to reveal the truth amid a chaos of lies. Personally, I thank him for helping expose those who tried hard to take healthcare choices away from our citizens.”—JEFF LANDY, Attorney General of Louisiana “If courageously speaking truth to power is a cornerstone of our heritage, then the wisdom and insights in this book should be lauded by us all.”—TAD COFFIN, Olympic gold medalist "To understand the devastation of our times, to comprehend the scale and depth of the emergency that we face, Robert Malone is the leading person in the world you want as your guide. His scintillating book, filled with candid truths only he would know, is a gift to the world—to you, me, and everyone who seeks to understand. For decades, he has been at the center of the arena, as a scientist, intellectual, and moral force. His credentials are impeccable, even legendary—but just as remarkable is his willingness to speak. He could have been like so many others in his echelon of knowledge; he could have joined the junta of control, played along, or just stayed quiet. Something inside this man said, ‘No.’ And his moral compass guided him, same as so many other dissidents today. People who care owe a debt of gratitude to Dr. Malone for this literary achievement."—JEFFREY TUCKER, author, founder of the Brownstone Institute “Bristling with timely content and filled with the personal accounts of fellow warriors for truth and medical freedom, Dr. Malone’s in-depth exploration of deceit at a national level exposes the conscious and systematic betrayal of trust that led to an incalculable loss of life and, for many, a loss of faith in the current American system. I share Malone’s passion for educating Americans on the necessity to think for oneself, the power of fear to paralyze a society, and the freedom that comes from living in truth and courage.” —MARK MCDONALD, psychiatrist, author of United States of Fear: How America Fell Victim to a Mass Delusional Psychosis “Robert Malone has compiled an indispensable compendium of truth, exposing the lies and obfuscation behind our failed and destructive pandemic response. He has been among the most courageous, ethical, and scientifically sound public voices throughout the pandemic. When so many others doctors and scientists stayed silent or ‘went along’ to protect their interests, in the face of enormous pressure to conform and despite malicious opposition, Dr. Malone spoke out. This book should be read by all who want to understand the public health travesty we suffered during COVID, so that we can build a future where humans can once again flourish.”—AARON KHERIATY, psychiatrist, author of The New Abnormal: The Rise of the Biomedical Security State “A man with a great mind, a deep scientific knowledge and an open heart. Dr. Robert Malone is the inventor of the nine original mRNA vaccine patents, which were originally filed in 1989, including both the idea of mRNA vaccines and the original proof of principle experience and RNA transfaction. Dr. Malone has close to a hundred peer reviewed publications, which have been cited over 12,000 times. Since January 2020, Dr. Malone has been leading a large team focused on clinical research, design, drug development, computer modeling, and mechanisms of action for repurpose drugs of the treatment of COVID-19.” —CHRISTOF PLOTHE, World Council for Health, osteopath and researcher "Dr. Robert Malone is a force of nature. His technical expertise and extraordinary experience as a medical doctor, inventor, bureaucratic insider, and public health advocate inform every page of this remarkable book. Robert's exemplary courage makes his story required reading for those who love our country and detest the lies its government has told all of us." —FRANK GAFFNEY, executive chairman of the Center for Security Policy and host of Securing America on Real America’s Voice “Not everyone has the intellectual capacity and the intestinal fortitude to recognize the errors in the government’s narrative, and to do the research, and then speak up about his findings. Thankfully, Dr. Robert Malone does. We should all be grateful he refused to stay silent when he saw the government’s mishandling of its COVID response. He is graced with the ability to take complex subject matter and break it down into language the average person can understand. This book is a must-read!”—JENNY BETH MARTIN, cofounder of the Tea Party Patriots “This book—a must-read—is an essential guide to processing and comprehending the incomprehensible human tragedy and horror of what has occurred during this ‘pandemic,’ and to find some path forward that could lead to a better future for all of us.”—BILL WALTON, host of The Bill Walton Show

Oxford University Press Infectious Disease
Book SynopsisVery Short Introductions: Brilliant, Sharp, InspiringInfectious disease is a moving target: new diseases emerge every year, old diseases evolve into new forms, and ecological and socioeconomic upheavals change the transmission pathways that spread disease. But where does disease come from? How is it transmitted from one person to another? And why are some individuals more susceptible than others? In this Very Short Introduction, Marta Wayne and Benjamin Bolker address these questions through the lenses of ecology and evolution. Assessing the management of outbreaks of diseases such as influenza, HIV/AIDS, cholera, and COVID-19, they provide specific examples to illustrate why major diseases still threaten populations all over the world.ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. Oxford University Press Epidemiology
Book SynopsisWhat is epidemiology? What are the causes of a new disease? How can pandemics be prevented? Epidemiology is the study of the changing patterns of disease and its main aim is to improve the health of populations. It''s a vital field, central to the health of society, to the identification of causes of disease, and to their management and prevention. Epidemiology has had an impact on many areas of medicine; from discovering the relationship between tobacco smoking and lung cancer, to the origin and spread of new epidemics. However, it is often poorly understood, largely due to misrepresentations in the media. In this Very Short Introduction Rodolfo Saracci dispels some of the myths surrounding the study of epidemiology. He provides a general explanation of the principles behind clinical trials, and explains the nature of basic statistics concerning disease. He also looks at the ethical and political issues related to obtaining and using information concerning patients, and trials involving placebos.ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. The University of Chicago Press Developing to Scale
Book SynopsisThe first critical book on appropriate technology, Developing to Scale shows how global health came to be understood as a problem to be solved with the right technical interventions. In 1973, economist E. F. Schumacher published Small Is Beautiful, which introduced a mainstream audience to his theory of appropriate technology: the belief that international development projects in the Global South were most sustainable when they were small-scale, decentralized, and balanced between the traditional and the modern. His theory gained widespread appeal, as cuts to the foreign aid budget, the national interests of nations seeking greater independence, postcolonial activism, and the rise of the United States' tech sector drove stakeholders across public and private institutions toward cheaper tools. In the ensuing decades, US foreign assistance shifted away from massive modernization projects, such as water treatment facilities, toward point-of-use technologies like village water pumps anTrade Review“The concept of ‘appropriate technology,’ Janus-faced, has been used both to inspire and to prevent technological assistance to people in resource-poor communities. Morefield’s Developing to Scale provides a fascinating and surprising global history of the origins of the idea and its far-reaching influence on international health and development worldwide. Who should decide what technology is right for whom? What social systems do technologies require to succeed? These questions remain vitally important today.” -- David S. Jones, Harvard University“With engaging prose and illuminating detail, Developing to Scale provides a crucial history of appropriate technology in international aid. Anyone nursing a clever fix to improve the world should first read this book.” -- Peter Redfield, University of Southern California“The first comprehensive history of advocacy for ‘appropriate technology’ for global health, Developing to Scale provides a fresh analytical route into understanding the enduring enthusiasm for cheap technological fixes for fundamental problems of global health inequalities. With an extraordinary combination of scholarly rigor and narrative lucidity, the book works across scales to provide a careful account of key individuals, groups, and encounters, while also illuminating anew the broader social and technological field of global health in an era of emerging postcolonial aspirations and complexly intertwining neoliberal endeavors.” -- Anne Pollock, King’s College LondonTable of ContentsIntroduction Chapter One: Buddhist Economics Chapter Two: Small Is Beautiful Chapter Three: Networking Development Chapter Four: Carrots and Sticks Chapter Five: Visions of the Future Chapter Six: The Silver Bullet Boys Chapter Seven: Bantu Technology Chapter Eight: Scaling Up Epilogue: COVID-19 Acknowledgments Notes Index

Between the Lines Crisis and Contagion: Conversations on Capitalism
Book SynopsisCrisis and Contagion is a selection of fourteen interviews conducted by Ian McKay of the Wilson Institute at McMaster University. Interviews with Nancy Fraser, Mike Davis, Mack Penner, Andreas Malm, and Merrill Singer explore capitalism’s organic crisis and the ways it has made this and future pandemics inevitable. Nora Loreto, Tithi Bhattacharya, Chandrima Chakraborty, Merlin Chowkwanyun, and Sanjay Nepal discuss the experiences of ordinary people in the pandemic. J. Michael Ryan, Laura Spinney, Naomi Klein, and Noam Chomsky explore the long-term effects and likely historical legacy of a pandemic that has changed millions of lives–and, maybe, the trajectory of human civilization. These scholars propose that to understand the impact of Covid-19, we have to understand the conflictual history of capitalism–and to ward off future pandemics, we need to start building a post-capitalist alternative to the disease-generating and highly unequal global neoliberal order. As capitalist forces work to shove what we have learned from the Covid-19 pandemic down the memory hole, Crisis and Contagion offers a must-read for those wanting to seize this moment of change and revolution.Trade Review“While global profit-seekers and the states that protect them push to normalize the Covid-19 pandemic, Crisis and Contagion conveys the urgency of international solidarity amongst the wretched of the earth. There is nothing natural about the premature deaths and disposability caused by our current world order. The interviews in this book provide us with the sharp analysis we need to understand that the social and material crises inherent to capitalism are as mutable as the virus.” - Nanky Rai, MD MPH CCFP, physician and organizer with the Toronto Overdose Prevention Society and Toronto Street Medics // “This immersive, wide-ranging collection of interviews reveals many potential ways forward for organizers and activists to reclaim health as politics, away from the control of technocrats and professionals. These engaging, personable interviews rightly contextualize Covid-19 as an expression of multiple crises created by capitalism—with its atomization and commodification—which beg for a transformative vision from the Left. Crisis and Contagion is essential reading for all those invested in centering health, care, justice, and liberation in the world we are now building.” – Baijayanta Mukhopadhyay, MA MD CCFP DTM&H, author of Country of Poxes and A Labour of Liberation, co-coordinator of People’s Health Movement CanadaTable of ContentsAcknowledgements Introduction Part One: The Organic Crisis of Neoliberal Capitalism Nancy Fraser Mike Davis Mack Penner Andreas Malm Merrill Singer Part Two: Sacrificing the Subalterns Nora Loreto Tithi Bhattacharya Chandrima Chakraborty Merlin Chowkwanyun Sanjay Nepal Part Three: Choppy Waters Ahead J.
