Search Press Ltd Tunisian Crochet Stitch Dictionary: 150 Essential
Book SynopsisTunisian crochet has experienced a great revival in recent years – a surge in popularity that is showing no signs of slowing down. Anna Nikipirowicz outlines a wide variety of new and unique stitches in this beautifully produced reference work. This Tunisian crochet stitch collection offers classic and new stitches, designed to keep needlecrafters of all skill levels occupied for years to come. Tunisian crochet produces a fabric that is similar to a knit but worked on a hook. It’s a lot quicker, combining the best of knitting and crochet, creating a dense, durable fabric. Packed with 150 stitches for beginner and intermediate to advanced, you can start with basic stitches which are organized into themed sections. With actual-size swatches, you can see straight away if you are getting it right. It also includes charts and step-by-step photo instructions. The Tunisian Crochet Stitch Dictionary is designed to get crochet fans discovering new stitches and creative ways of working crochet.Trade ReviewThe book is packed with a directory of 150 stitches (which are all so well explained), as well as a really useful section on Tunisian crochet skills. Each stitch has really detailed, step-by-step instructions, actual-size swatch pictures and charts. I’m not particularly au fait with charts (my brain does not work that way naturally), but thanks to the symbols and abbreviations list in the skills section, I was able to follow the charts easily too. If I’m honest, my Tunisian crochet skills are very limited. Of course, I have released a Tunisian crochet shawl pattern, but this uses only Tunisian Simple Stitch. My knowledge of other stitches is definitely lacking! As soon as I flicked through the stitch directory, I was making lists of stitches I wanted to try and getting ideas for future designs. I decided to work up a couple of swatches to try out some new stitches, and honestly, I had so much fun. To be fair, since I have a one-year-old to take care of every day, my yarn time these days is very precious, but this truly was like a breath of fresh air. I'm really looking forward to using some of these stitches (and more) in future designs. The stitches I tried were Rib Stitch (variegated yarn), Lace Shell II (purple yarn) and Diamond Lace (grey yarn). The Rib Stitch is pretty simple but super effective, and I love how it worked up in this gorgeous variegated yarn - the yarn made a relatively simple stitch really shine. The Lace Shell II blew my mind. I had no idea Tunisian crochet could look like that! I actually think I over-stretched my swatch a little when I blocked it, but the shells are so pretty and delicate. I can imagine this stitch would be fabulous for a summery shawl or wrap. The Diamond Lace was my first try at lace in Tunisian crochet, and now I want to try all the lace stitches! This would be so striking as a panel on a garment or even a shawl. Next up on my list to try are Tunisian crochet cables! […] This book fits that bill perfectly! You should definitely get your hands on it if you're able to. -- Mary-Lynn Dalrymple * Wholly Hooked *Tunisian crochet produces a fabric that is similar to a knit but is worked on a hook. It combines the best of knitting and crochet, creating a dense, durable fabric. Tunisian Crochet Stitch Dictionary is a must-have crochet book that’s an essential resource for anyone in the crochet and knitting community! Featuring 150 of the most popular and most used Tunisian crochet stitches, this reference book is filled with step-by-step instructions and coordinating photographs to help you achieve stitch after stitch, from beginner to intermediate to advanced. From basic stitches, fans, shells, and cables to lace, waves, chevron, and cross stitches, plus embellishments, edgings, and more, a detailed section on essential crochet skills, techniques, and other fundamentals are also included. Additionally, actual-size swatches so you can easily see if you’re getting it right and helpful charts are featured, as well as consistent yarn weight being used throughout for easy stitch comparison. Author Anna Nikipirowicz is a skilled crochet and knit designer, tutor, and author of several crochet books. Her work is regularly featured in Inside Crochet and other craft magazines, and she is also a regular on Yarn Lane TV where she shares her designs and techniques. She teaches Tunisian crochet, crochet, and knitting throughout the UK and abroad, always striving for participants to learn new skills or enhance the ones they already have. A collection of both classic and new Tunisian crochet stitches, Tunisian Crochet Stitch Dictionary will keep needlecrafters of all skill levels occupied and inspired for years to come. * CrochetEnvy.com *Tunisian crochet is enjoying a surge in popularity and this book is packed with 150 stitches for all levels of expertise. With actual-size swatches, charts and step-by-step photos, it's designed for crochet fans to discover new stitched and creative methods. * Machine Knitting Monthly, May 2023 *Whether you're just starting to experiment with Tunisian crochet or experienced with this technique, this stitch directory is a brilliant reference to keep handy while you work. Featuring 150 classic and new stitches, crochet teacher Anna shows how to work each stitch, including step-by-step photos and charts. Arranged by theme, the book enables you to start with beginner stitches and then progress, while actual size swatches enable you to check you're getting it right. * Inside Crochet, Issue 157 *This book is a joy. I have long wanted to get my teeth into Tunisian crochet and this book has shown me how. There are clear written instructions alongside beautiful, helpful photographs and charts to enable me to tackle a huge array of stitches. There are also clear instructions on how to begin one's Tunisian crochet journey, explaining in simple terms how to begin with the basics. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in crochet. -- Susan chesworth * Customer Review *I am very new to the art of Tunisian crochet and had no idea there were so many different stitches. This lovely book contains 150 from the more well known stitches to some very exciting and unusual ones. It will definitely appeal to those more experienced in Tunisian crochet but will inspire newbies, like me, to continue learning and trying them out. I like the layout of the book, especially the photos of all the stitched swatches at the beginning so you can easily find what you need. Each stitch has its own entry with written instructions and chart, plus a real life sized photo of how the stitch should look. There is a good basic skills section at the back which has a clear, large font list of the symbols and abbreviations used in the patterns so it is very easy to use. -- Lesley Cowland * Customer Review *I loved the easy-on-the-eye colour palettes and was further lured in by the pictures of interesting swatches in this book. I could recognise many of the stitches but was indeed inspired by the combinations and colourways. I am happy to report that this book is a thorough and fulsome dictionary of Tunisian stitches, laid out with a concise, clear system that deploys verbal, diagrammatic and photographic instructions helpful to all comers, from newbies to masters. It's got all the usual info about yarns, hooks and other notions associated with the craft, tables of chart symbols and abbreviations, and a full index in the back. I particularly appreciate the illustrated contents that allows a quick visual search. All the basic stitches are there, including variations. The author covers all the categories from lace, cables, colour work, popcorns and honeycombs to pineapple stitches and varieties of chevrons and waves. It even includes some lovely ideas on embellishments such as weaving, embroidery and surface crochet. There is even a collection of borders and edges – a category not always acknowledged within Tunisian crochet. I was thoroughly inspired and spent quite a few happy hours trying out the swatches and jotting down the multiple ideas that bubbled up as a result. I definitely recommend it. -- Lindy Zubiary * SlipKnot, September 2023 *Table of ContentsIntroduction About this book DIRECTORY OF STITCHES Fans and Shells Bobbles and Clusters Cables Relief Stitches Lace Stitches Waves and Chevrons Embellishments Edgings TUNISIAN CROCHET SKILLS Yarn Equipment Getting started Special stitches and techniques Symbols and abbreviations Index Credit

Search Press Ltd 100 Flowers to Knit & Crochet (new edition): A
Book SynopsisThis 15th anniversary edition of the best-selling book 100 Flowers to Knit and Crochet, with over 130,000 copies sold! An utterly delightful collection of designs for any knitting or crochet enthusiast, it not only includes the most beautiful flowers and leaves, but also a wonderful, whimsical collection of fruit and vegetables as well as butterflies. As most of the projects use only small amounts of yarn, it is the perfect way to use up scraps, or practise using novelty yarns. You can use them to decorate clothing, hats, bags and belts, embellish home accessories, or make a beautiful bouquet as an unusual display piece. There are so many flowers to choose from that there is sure to be something you will love, from simple spiral roses and two-tone fuchsias, to elaborate layered blooms and fabulous felted flowers. The flowers are beautifully arranged on the pages, with stitched leaves and embroidered stems, and are cross-referenced to a separate section featuring clear pattern instructions and information on yarn requirements. You will also find plenty of inspiration for embellishing your finished flowers with beads, buttons, sequins and embroidery. In addition, there are lots of ideas for using them in a range of fun ways, from unusual jewellery to decorating gift-wrapped packages. The patterns use UK crochet terms, with a US/UK conversion chart printed on the fold-out flap. Previously published as 9781844484034.Trade ReviewNature wins, especially in needlework popularity contests. In this fifteenth-anniversary edition, veteran needleworker Stanfield (The Knitter's Stitch Collection, 2021) recaps her take on translating flowers, fruits, and vegetables into yarn. Written in UK terminology (of note to crocheters), this collection first showcases finished items, then follows with technical instructions. Those directions include yarn specifications and methods, and, for crochet, instructions for how to make up (i.e. put together) and symbols, with further differentiation into beginning, intermediate, and advanced projects. Many of the pieces will be familiar (e.g. ladybug and acorn); others, less so (like Santolina and rudbeckia). A color portfolio of ten projects, without instructions, acts as a creative guide to using flowers and fruits for added design flourishes, on an evening handbag or winter scarf, for two examples. A standard for libraries that don’t already own this classic reference. -- Barbara Jacobs * Booklist *This is a really useful book for knitters and crocheters alike who would like to embellish their knitting or crocheting or have small projects to make. The pictures inspire one to try something new. The patterns are very clear and I like the fact that yarn weights are given rather than affiliating projects to a particular brand. The fold out flap with abbreviations is brilliant as a less experienced knitter or crocheter will not have to flip backwards and forwards to find out new terminology. This would be a great book to keep in your collection. -- Monica Russel * Monica Russel *Table of ContentsForeword/About this book 6 Before you begin 8 Materials and equipment 10, Crochet symbols 12, Abbreviations 14, Terminology and aftercare 15, Notes on knitting 16, Notes on crochet 18 Directory of flowers 20 Flowers 22, Leaves 42, Fruit and vegetables 44 Technical instructions 46 Knitting instructions, Basic designs 48, Intermediate designs 54, Advanced designs 62 Crochet instructions Basic designs 66, Intermediate designs 74, Advanced designs 92 Projects 108 Project 1 : Peg bag 110, Project 2: Evening handbag 112, Project 3: Stationery 114, Project 4: Christmas gift wrap 115, Project 5: Baby's cardigan 116, Project 6: Winter scarf 118, Project 7: Summer shoes 119, Project 8: Ruffles 120, Project 9: Place settings 122, Project 10: Shopping bag 124 Index 126 Resources and credits 128

The charts are easy to use. For all levels of knitters used to working with more than one colour of yarn, this is a useful book. Essential techniques are given for those unfamiliar with colour knitting. It includes symbols and motifs, animals, flowers and traditional geometric patterns. You can combine the designs to make your own unique patterns. There are also four projects included for you to make – a cowl, hat, mittens and pincushion. Great for those who like to design their own knitwear. * Karen Platt Yarnsandfabrics.co.uk/crafts *Oct 13 This is such a great resource book for those looking for fairisle knitting designs. However, it's not just a dictionary of design but also a guide to more advanced knitting, such as steeking and designing garments. It's so accessible but gently stretching too. There are 29 pages on increasing, decreasing, working in the round and holding the yarn with heaps of tips for working with two or more colours. I've always loved going at my own pace with knitting, gradually teaching myself all the techniques one at a time, then coasting for a while until I get bored. I do feel as if I want to try the hat above, maybe in my favourite colour combo - white and red. There are four projects at the back of the book to knit - a cowl, a hat, mittens and a pincushion. The rest of the book is comprised of 168 design charts with an example swatch to show you what it looks like. There are black and white charts as well as colour charts and alternative colourway charts to inspire you. I love the Scandinavian look. The jumpers have really come back into fashion again, so maybe now is the time to knit your own? http://sewingisforgirls.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/150-scandinavian-knitting-designs-by.html * sewingisforgirls.blogspot.com *Jan 14 Scandi-style is more popular than ever and now you can incorporate the traditional designs into your knits with the patterns in Mary Jane's book. It's a veritable feast, packed with (yes, you guessed it) 150 different designs to use on winter sweaters, yokes, hats, gloves and more. Four patterns, for a hat, cowl, mittens and a pincushion, are also given. Helpfully, the swatches are all printed at actual size and essential instructions are given for those who are unfamiliar with colour knitting. * Knit Today *If you enjoy doing colourwork then this book has a wealth of ideas from single animal motifs to overall ideas for designs for bigger projects. It would be easy to mix and match the patterns to create your own designs. The charts are colour coded to the swatches and there is a second colourway suggestion to get one’s imagination going. There are great ideas for adding bits of fair isle to a garment, hat or cushion cover. I like the fact that the photographed swatches are real in size. An added extra are some simple patterns for a beginner who is new to fair isle to follow. The book also contains helpful hints for a knitter including different cast ons, how to steek and blocking and finishing techniques. I would highly recommend this book to add to your library. -- Monica Russel – Knitting DesignerIf you enjoy doing colourwork then this book has a wealth of ideas from single animal motifs to overall ideas for designs for bigger projects. This new and updated book is designed as an essential reference and a hands-on project resource for the loom knitter. It's very well explained and really does treat you like a beginner. I love the simple instructions and that it has pictures which help show each stage. It has some really cute projects which would make lovely handmade presents for family and friends. It's also good that it has pictures for each project so you know what you're aiming for! * Caroline Bourne * I am completely new to Loom Knitting although I can knit the traditional way! I'm now inspired to go and purchase a loom - I never realised the looms were so versatile - I thought all that could be made were hats! Also amazed that you can do several different stitches. The pictures are clear and seem very easy to follow. My first project will be the beautiful cowl! * Shelagh Bird *another new hobby for me to learn the book is clear and easy to understand covers all the things you need to start plus patterns /projects * Lynne Hart *I have never tried this before but this is a fantastic book with clear and precise instructions * Denise Bonham *I've looked at the book, as a beginner, and can't believe how detailed it is. I am awaiting arrival of a loom, but am looking forward to trying at during the holidays. It looks like it will be getting a lot of use between me & the kids. A joy to read * Colleen Allison *Even though i can knit and crochet it is nice to be able to learn something a bit different , i find the book clear to understand with loads of patterns that i can't wait to get started on, it even tells you what tools you need very precise ,suitable for beginners and poeple like me that already have skills , great book * Julie Dawn *I received a free copy of this book from Search Press. The book itself is a good manageable size. I love the cover design and all the colour pictures within, they really help to make it feel uplifting and inspiring. The information within is set out in easy to read sections with lots of pictures to help. The topics covered are comprehensive and the patterns are for adults and children, and all really wearable items. I think this is a great book for anyone wanting to start out with their loom. * Cherry Edwards *I'd never heard of knitting on a loom before so I definitely needed a book for beginners. This fits the bill perfectly. It starts with advice on what equipment there is and how to decide what to buy which is really helpful. Advice on yarn is helpful and means the book would be suitable even if you're not experienced in normal knitting. The techniques are explained with clear pictures in a logical sequence. And of course you then want to crack on and make something so there is a good selection of patterns. Most of these are quite small items so look like they would be satisfying to complete. I find hats and socks quite tricky on normal knitting needles so am looking forward to getting myself a some equipment to try those. * Heather Haig *Loom knitting is a craft I haven't tried yet and have wanted to try making a sock with a loom, The book explains about all the different Looms there are,the stitches, and also felting. The instructions are so easy to follow specially as there are pictures as well. The patterns are all things I would try, usually I find that books have things in it I would never dream of making. Defintely recommend this book. * Kathy Downing *

Sixth & Spring Books Vogue® Knitting Colorwork Paper
Book SynopsisCreated by industry leader Vogue Knitting, this book offers 90+ pages of special colorwork paper that features stitch outlines rather than rectangles—so knitters can grasp what their finished project will actually look like. Knitters who enjoy creating their own colorwork patterns now have a fun, effective, and easier way to work! The innovative pages in Vogue Knitting: Knitter’s Colorwork Paper have outlines in the V shape of an actual knit stitch rather than the rectangles of ordinary knitting graph paper. This lets you create a better representation of what your finished item will actually look like. More than 90 pages of two common knitting gauges allow plenty of room for hundreds of patterns. Knitters can use the 5 stitches by 6 rows gauge for stranded colorwork and the 6 stitches by 8 rows gauge for intarsia motifs. They can also use this paper to test alternative color combinations of existing patterns. The book is as fun to use as it is practical, and will leave knitters wondering why this hasn’t been done before.

For this book, she has designed 20 garment, accessory and homeware projects which showcase many beautiful styles and stitches from across the Northern Hemisphere. The collection includes a number of simple projects which will be ideal for novice knitters or as quick-knit gifts. These include a ribbed scarf, hat and mitts in a super-chunky yarn, and the little ‘Lace of Unst’ bookmark, which is a sweet introduction to Shetland lace knitting. For the home, there is a beautiful blanket with a lace pattern of birch leaves, and a large, intricately cabled blanket inspired by Aran sweaters. ‘Skies of Sweden’ is a colourwork cushion in heathered pink and cream, whose patterning evokes a pine forest in winter. The ‘Dream in Danish Throw Cushion’ features knit-and-purl textures influenced by Danish traditions. Our favourite projects in the book are the colourwork accessories, such as the pretty Fair Isle wristwarmers called ‘A Slow Day in Shetland’, and the chic twisted headband which has blue and white motifs depicting Finland’s national flower, the lily of the valley. There’s a cosy honeycomb cable shawl, a neat hat and scarf with delicate floral colourwork inspired by Scandinavian textiles, and a pair of classic Nordic mittens featuring the Selbu rose motif. The White Heather Shawl’ combines a pretty lace and bobble stitch pattern with a chunky yarn. Knitters can try working with Icelandic lopi wool with the ‘Fire and Ice’ cowl and mittens, which have a simple, geometric colourwork pattern to depict the volcanic landscapes of Iceland. There is one garment project in the book: a chunky Aran-style cabled sweater, which has been designed with minimal shaping and basic seaming to make it a great choice for your first Aran jumper project. It’s sized to fit chests of approximately 36in to 62in. Jenny provides illustrated walkthroughs for many of the techniques used in the patterns, such as mattress stitch, twist seaming, and cabling techniques. -- The Knitter * The Knitter *Taking inspiration from the Nordic, Scandinavian and Celtic regions, this books contains 20 modern projects, based on traditional knitting styles and techniques. A great little stash buster. -- Charlotte Jessica Bailey * Customer Review *The instructions are very clear and easy to read. The projects range from simple and easy to hard so you can challenge yourself. The images add to the enjoyment of the book and make you feel cosy and ready to get knitting. Overall a great and amazing book I can't wait to start knitting from it. -- Jessica Irene Morgan * Customer Review *There have been a few books of knits inspired by 'Northern Lands' and it seems the techniques are still popular. This one features mainly scarves and mitts but does have one cabled blanket and an Aran jumper. There are some beginner patterns but most of them are for more experienced knitters. The patterns and charts are clearly set out, though, and are easy to follow for anyone who wants to extend their skills. There are various techniques described with diagrams throughout the book and these are well drawn and easy to follow. On the whole, a nicely presented book, inexpensive and with plenty of useful chart. * Slipknot *Table of ContentsChapter One: Knitting Basics Yarn, Needles and other equipment, Gauge, Casting On/Casting Off, Basic Stitches, Increasing and Decreasing, Finishing and Blocking, Using Colour, Circular Knitting, Reading Charts, Symbols and Abbreviations Chapter Two: The Projects Ribbed Scarf, Ribbed Hat, Ribbed Fingerless Mitts, Danish Damask Pillow, Shetland Bookmark, Mira Mhór Cowl, Scandinavian Hat, 'Leaves of Birch' Blanket, Scandinavian Pillow, Finnish Twist Headband, White Heather Throw, Icelandic Mitts, Icelandic Cowl, Shetland Wrist Warmers, Norwegian Selbu Mittens, Finnish Pillow, Cabled Blanket, Swedish Scarf, Chunky Oversized Aran Sweater, Cabled Shawl Index

Matberg comes from a family who, for generations, have been working to create beautiful, quality crafted items by hand – fathers and grandfathers were craftsmen, and mothers and grandmothers often worked hard knitting warm garments for the whole family. Viking Knits is a tribute to good-quality, practical needlework, inspired by the Vikings’ warm, all-weather garments. From tough-wearing sweaters and outerwear to elegant cardigans and jackets, all have been made in a beautiful Scandinavian style. Whether you love traditional, Nordic colourwork patterns and cables, or modern, textured knits, there is something for everyone. Clear instructions are provided for each project, and charts are included where needed. 'I hope this book will inspire you to create something valuable with your hands,' says Lasse L. Matberg. 'Welcome to a knitting book with both tradition and versatility.'Trade ReviewYou might not associate Vikings with knitting, but they had great needlework skills. You too can master the craft thanks to Lasse Matberg's new book. From Nordic patterns to cable knits, clear instructions mean you can get busy – and cosy for the winter. A win-win. * The Sun *A substantial book packed full of patterns with lovely pictures and a sumptuous paper quality. Sweaters, cardigans, hats, mittens and accessories are included with many in co-ordinating sets, ideal for gifts. Most of the sweaters give a variation for children so you can kit out the whole family. I particularly liked the 'Breeze' sweater and 'The Viking' design. There are colour work designs and texture/cable patterns so almost every knitter is catered for. A gorgeous-looking book that has an interesting range of projects and certainly represents great value, ideal for anyone with basic skills who is looking to try different techniques. Would make a gorgeous gift for a knitter, especially if you put some yarn with it to get them started. * Customer Review *Over 40 lovely patterns in a classy book! Luxe book with over 40 patterns. The needle sizes are given for metric, imperial and US. There are some really beautiful garments and this book would make a smashing gift for an experienced knitter. -- Loma Wood * Customer Review *I was impressed by the number of patterns in this book, they are beautifully photographed and many include alternative designs for knitting flat and in the round and neckband options. There are many tips to give advice to get the best result. Each jumper comes in six sizes and there are even some matching hats. The instructions and charts are nice and clear and I love the kids versions. My family have already been picking what they would like me to make! This is a book that I will be dipping into for years to come. * Customer Review *Learn to knit over 40 items for men, women and children with ‘The Viking’, social media star Lasse L. Matberg. The projects epitomize Scandinavian chic: the first section, “The Best Everyday Sweaters,” features a gray “Power Sweater” and a chunky V-neck “Lasse Sweater.” A selection of “Stylish Knitwear” includes such standouts as the “Queen Coatigan,” a long, open cardigan with “decorative balloon sleeves and chunky cables,” and the “Wave Sweater,” with small cables that mimic waves. Among the “Norse Sweaters” are a turtleneck tunic pattern and the cable-knit “Viking,” which will have readers “ready for sitting at a long table with a glass of mead.” The children’s garments avoid the cloyingly cute and rely instead upon adapted versions of adult designs: there’s a patterned “Mountaintop” sweater and a colorful “Sailor Sweater” with a matching hat for youngsters. Matberg’s patterns are best suited for intermediate and advanced crafters, though beginners who want a challenge will be able to keep up thanks to the straightforward directions: patterns are both written and charted, and each project is labelled by difficulty, so the less experienced will know where to start. Crafters ready to up their sweater game need look no further. * Publisher's Weekly *From tough-wearing Scandinavian style sweaters to elegant cardigans, learn to knit over 40 items for men, women and children with 'The Viking', social media star Lasse L Matberg. I’ve only reached page 20 but the book is fantastic! What I especially like is the no nonsense approach when referring to knitting yarn as the author is not trying to push specific brands. It gives yarn type, thickness, length and needle size which is great when looking for alternative yarn. It’s a brilliant idea as a Christmas present for an avid knitter and would be suitable for all levels. Excellent value! * Customer Review *This book is fantastic value. A great selection of knitting patterns for the whole family. It particularly focuses on men's jumpers which is a great change. Modern styles with casual but smart flair. We'll worth the price. -- Robin D Low * Customer Review *I just read this front to back. The pictures are gorgeous and the patterns written so anyone can understand them. Charts for colorwork are bright and nicely sized. There is nothing complicated in any of these patterns. Whether you’re looking for Icelandic, Viking, cables, men's, women's or children's knits, this book has it. The few preview photos given don’t do it justice. The only bad part... Which project to do first?! * Customer Review *Lasse L. Matberg's debut book, Viking Knits, features more than 40 beautifully crafted Scandinavian knits for men, women and children. Combining versatility and tradition, the pieces include hardwearing jumpers, stylish outwear and cosy cardigans. With over one million followers on social media (@lasselom), even the non-knitters among us will love this insight into Lasse's Nordic lifestyle and heritage. * Simply Scandi, Issue 9 *This publication contains over 40 patterns for men (18), women (9) and children (6) plus a section of accessories (10). The designs cover tough-wearing sweaters (The Best Everyday Sweaters) and outerwear (Knits For The Great Outdoors) to elegant cardigans and jackets (Stylish Knitwear). There is also a section on Nordic colourwork, cable knits and modern, textured knits, and some of which are inspired by Viking culture. Overall, the designs reflect the Scandinavian love for being warm and practical. It’s nice to see a good range of designs for men. Each pattern is graded by its level of difficulty (beginner, intermediate, experienced); written instructions are minimal but straightforward and are supported by charts plus abbreviations. There are no schematics, however, for the patterns. The downside to the patterns is that the suggested yarns are not available in the UK, but could be easily substituted taking the necessary steps to check for tension (gauge), yarn properties and of course grist. But each pattern provides all the necessary information to help with this. Other helpful tips for getting the best from a design are also given where necessary for some patterns. The book opens well, and remains open on the page one is working from, which is a definite plus for knitters. All the designs are nicely photographed with a definite Nordic flavour. -- Rita Owen * Mid-Herts Guild *Table of ContentsPreface 7 Yarn 8 Abbreviations 9 THE BEST EVERYDAY SWEATERS 10 Lasse Sweater 12, Power Sweater 18, Synne Sweater – women 24, Fiaba Sweater – women 30 KNITS FOR THE GREAT OUTDOORS 34 Spark Jacket 36, Spark Sweater – women 40, Spark Sweater – children 44, Heart Sweater 50, Mountaintop Sweater 54, Mountaintop Sweater – women 58, Mountaintop Sweater – children 62, Sailor Sweater 66, Sailor Sweater – children 70, Breeze Sweater 74, Breeze Sweater – women 78, Breeze Sweater – children 82, Saga Sweater 86, Saga Sweater – women 90, Saga Sweater – children 94, Stylish Knitwear 98, Sunburst Sweater – women 100, Moonlight Sweater 104, Knight Jacket 110, Queen Coatigan – women 114, Wave Sweater 118, Midsummer Sweater 122, Papa Sweater 126 NORSE SWEATERS 130 The Viking 132, Storm Hoodie 136, Joy Sweater – women 140, Joy Sweater – children 144, Ocean Waves sweater 148, Three Swords Sweater 152, Glima Sweater 156 COSY ACCESSORIES 160 Brioche Scarf 162, Cuffed Hat and Mittens – for adults and children 164, Rest-and-Sit Mat 168, Breeze Hat – for adults and children 170, Sailor Hat 172, Sailor Hat – children 174, Saga Hat – for adults and children 176, Saga Mat 180, Scarf in the Round 184, Double-brimmed Hat – for adults and children 186

Search Press Ltd 20 to Knit: Knitted Bears: All Dressed Up!
Book SynopsisAll the bears in the book are based on the same, simple knitted bear, instructions for which are provided at the beginning of the book and are easy enough for even novice knitters to follow. There are 20 unique designs, including a hiking bear complete with boots and a backpack, a beach-loving bikini bear, a sweet honey bee bear, and a pretty pink ballet dancer, each with its own knitted outfit and accessories. Every bear has its own special character, and the reader is bound to find at least one they just have to knit. Suitable for adults as well as children, they make ideal gifts, and of course there is nothing to stop the reader creating characters of their own that they can personalise to suit a particular person or occasion.Trade ReviewMar 10 From pram to playgroup, to PhD and parenthood, people have their teddy bears with them – and teddies make great gifts, too. Val Pierce has created a fab collection of 20 knitted bears in beautiful costumes which are perfect for all sorts of occasions. There's a bride and groom, a college-bound bear and a baby bear, and lots of other quirky costumes besides. There's a pumpkin bear for Halloween and a strawberry bear for summer, and bears which are celebrating hobbies like football and (of course) knitting. Clothes and bear bodies are knitted separately, so although the bears are not designed to be underssed, you can adapt the patterns provided to create a wardrobe of costumes for your teddy. * Simply Knitting *Mar 10 We couldn't resist this one to show hand knitters how to knit 20 little bears and then dress them up in a wonderful range of colourful outfits that will delight both adults and children. All the designs are based on the same simple knitted bear and instructions are provided. They're easy to follow for even novice knitters. Every bear has its own special character and you're sure to find at least one you just have to knit. The bears are suitable for adults as well as children. They make ideal gifts and there's nothing to stop you creating charactes of your own. * Machine Knitting Monthly *Mar 10 Bear fans rejoice! With this little book you'll learn how to create a simple bear to then dress up in a range of charming and comical outfits, handknitted by you. Each bear measures 20cm or 8 inches high and is easy enough even for novice knitters to complete. The outfits are what really give the bears their character, and our favourites are Hector Hiking Bear, complete with boots and a rucksack, and Grace Bride Bear, dressed up in a white gown. These bears make great gifts for adults and children, and the book will make a lovely gift for someone who wants to try knitting bears for the first time. * Knit Today *Mar 10 Here is another book that shows you what to do with all that leftover double knitting wool you have in your bag. You will probably need to buy a ball or two for the bears, although at 8" high the leftover yarn might do for this as well. There is a basic pattern for a bear at the start of this book, together with basic patterns for trousers, dress and shoes. But there are also twenty different ways to make up your bear in a different style, together with instructions on how to turn it into a panda and lots of other colored bears. My favorite aspect of this (apart from the opportunities for fund raising and recycling) has to be the imagination involved in dreaming up the different looks. There is a Christmas bear, baby bear, bride and groom, panda and girl teddy in a pretty dress or two, but then there is also a bear in Hallowe’en garb (dressed as a pumpkin), fancy dress, teddy as a strawberry, a bee and a ladybird as well as a footballer, ballerina, along with various male attires. This is more a book for the intermediate knitter, as there is a certain amount of knitting know-how needed to make the bears look their best. Not all the bears seem to have exactly the same proportions, so some tweaks to the basic pattern are sometimes necessary. This will give you the experience to create yet more bears; one for everybody you know! * Myshelf.com *Table of ContentsIntroduction Basic patterns Katy Strawberry Bear Bouncing Baby Bear Peter Pumpkin Bear Freddy Football Bear Toby Toddler Bear Billy Bridegroom Bear Grace Bride Bear Pippa Dolly Bear Holly Christmas Bear Dainty Dancing Bear Barney College Bear Sweet Honey Bee Bear Olivia Sweetheart Bear Emily Knitting Bear Sophie Bikini Bear Poppy Panda Bear Hector Hiking Bear Lucky Ladybird Bear Pretty Party Bear Belinda Bouquet Bear

Search Press Ltd Arne & Carlos Knitting Scandinavian Style: Socks,
Book SynopsisArne & Carlos derived the inspiration for this book from numerous Setesdal patterns. Many were found in the attics of old houses, in books, on postcards, and from old knitting patterns. In their newest book, Knitting Scandinavian Style, you will find 33 patterns for gorgeous sweaters in bright colours, to suit both men and women. Ideas for accessories such as mittens, hats, wrist warmers, stockings, small and large pillows, teddy bears and much more. The levels of difficulty vary from completely easy patterns to those for more experienced knitters. Through experience gained from working alongside Scandinavia's most respected knitters, many of whom still use centuries-old techniques, Arne & Carlos seek to preserve tradition while creating pieces that are fresh and modern. The 33 patterns in this book have been inspired by Setesdal’s cultural heritage but were designed with a little twist.Trade ReviewSeptember 2014 With all things Scandinavian more popular than ever, here is a whole book dedicated to knitting projects in this style. Popular knitwear designers Arne and Carlos have filled this handsome book with lovely pieces taken from traditional motifs from Setesdal in Southern Norway. As with all the Arne and Carlos series you can expect a beautifully illustrated book with pictures of more than just the projects. The inspiration behind this collection is Arne’s grandmother who came from this area, and her house that was filled with items to inspire designs. There are lots of pictures of traditional items like Christmas cards and knitting patterns as well as the authors and others wearing the clothes and interesting snippets about Setesdal motifs. This is the home of what we think of as the classic Scandinavian sweater, and there are patterns for several in here along with socks, hats, mittens, blankets, pillows, a tea cozy and more. Patterns include written instructions and charts, many in color along with large full page photographs and notes about the inspiration behind the design. The yarns used are all as Scandinavian as the projects and there is a short but handy list of UK and US stockists and substitutes along with websites. This is a book aimed at intermediate and upwards knitters with no information about actual knitting, just the patterns but at this level this should be enough. Something for less proficient knitters to aspire to and a lovely book in all respects. If you cannot find a good range of knitting materials locally try http://www.searchpress.com for a list of suppliers. * Myshelf.com *Christmas 2014 New from knitting's favourite double-act is this beautiful collection of Scandinavian inspired clothes, accessories and homewares. Arne & Carlos took inspiration from the colourwork patterns from books, postcards and old knitting patterns found stashed away in dusty attics in the Setesdal Valley of southern Norway, and conjured up 33 stunning all-ability designs for men, women and children - including hats, teddy bears, wristwarmers and cushions. * Knit Today *Issue 77 There's something irresistible about Nordic knitwear designs when the weather starts to turn chilly - and just in time for winter, Scandinavian design duo Arne and Carlos have released this colourful collection of garments and accessories. Design influences have been drawn from their collection of vintage Norwegian patterns, textiles, books and even Christmas card, discovered in the attic of Arne's grandmother in Setesdal. We especially love the elegance of the two-tone stranded colourwork jumpers for men and women, and the exuberant colours of the cosy stockings taken from vintage Setesdal sweaters. You can bring Scandi-style into your home, too, with Arne and Carlos's colourwork pillows, draft excluders and tea cosy. Quick knits include 'Five Wise Virgins' wristwarmers and hats, a sweet little teddy bear, and mittens inspired by traditional Norwegian weaving. There's also a beautiful heirloom lace baby blanket. * Knitter, The *This book is inspirational for a fair isle knitter who is looking for ideas for a new project. The complexity of patterns varies from a simple first colour work potholder project, to a complex jumper pattern that involves the advanced technique of steeking. I believe that there is something there for everyone. I like the fact that there are also lace projects which are not too complex and the neck warmer would be a great simple piece of knitting for a weekend. The colour ranges shown are excellent and give the reader great ideas of how colours can be mixed and also how photography can enhance the piece with carefully chosen backgrounds. The photos are great and they also bring in humour and a sense of history. The patterns are laid out clearly and charts are a great size to follow. I believe that the patterns within them can be transferred to other projects, if you wanted to use them more than once. -- Monica Russel * theknitknacks.co.uk *

Whether you choose a portable project to knit on the go, a group project to do with friends, or one that introduces new skills to stimulate a creative mind, this book is the perfect path to keeping calm. The book is aimed at beginners as well as more advanced knitters, but does not include anything more complex than basic knit and purl stitches, increasing, decreasing and some simple colourwork. Lynne Rowe covers the essential techniques at the start of the book, followed by projects that have been specifically designed for mindfulness. The projects themselves are split into five sections: Quick and Easy, Portable, Group, Big, and New Skills. Within these sections, you can choose to make things such as a wash cloth, a hat, a blanket, a shawl and an evening bag, amongst others. Every single one has been designed to promote calm and mindfulness and all the projects are beautifully photographed with clear and simple knitting patterns. The Introduction is written by Betsan Corkhill, an experienced healthcare professional who founded the community interest company stitchlinks.com in 2005. It has grown into a global online community for those who enjoy the therapeutic benefits of craft, and in particular, knitting. Betsan has also advised on the projects included in the book and repetitive techniques to promote a calm state. Group: Getting together with friends to knit, chat and laugh over a cuppa is one of life’s joys. Supportive friends help us to live longer, healthier, happier lives so why not combine the calming nature of knitting with the support of being with friends? It’s a powerful way to switch off your stress fight-or-flight response and switch on a bit of fun, play and laughter. Big: It’s a lovely cosy feeling to sit quietly at home with your Big project on your lap, keeping you warm as you knit. As you get into the flow of the pattern, its familiarity will enable you to settle into a soothing rhythm whenever you need to knit yourself calm. New Skills: Learning new skills on a regular basis is essential for nurturing a healthy brain, opening new neural pathways and even encouraging the growth of new brain cells right into old age. They are designed specifically to stimulate your creative mind. Whatever your skill level, there are plenty of projects in this book to help you achieve calm, bust those stress levels and enjoy a pastime which is creative, fun and produces beautiful projects to wear, or for the home.Trade ReviewThis inspiring title helps consumers to create beautiful projects designed to calm and soothe. Knitting is well-known as a relaxing and therapeutic pastime, and while crafters are staying at home during the lockdown period, it's the perfect time to promote knitting as a way to improve mental health and general well-being. Whether you choose a portable project to knit on the go, a group project to fo with friends, or one that introduces new skills to stimulate a creative mind, this title is the perfect path to keeping calm. The projects are split into five sections: Quick and Easy, Portable, Group, Big, and New Skills. Within these sections, you can choose to make things such as a washcloth, a hat, a blanket, a shawl and even an evening bag, amongst others. Every pattern has been designed with mindfulness in mind, accompanied by beautiful photographs and clear, simple instructions. * Craft Business *A fantastic book. Clear instructions and plenty of pictures to enable knitters of all abilities to have a go at the projects. * Em Day *I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. I've tried to learn to knit twice before, with pretty dire results, my hands just don't seem to get it. The book arrived swiftly, and well packaged. I read through twice, and the instructions are clear and concise, with a few hints and tips. The last week I've actually managed, with the help of this book, to knit a recognisable shape. Hopefully with a little more practice I'll be able to progress onto knitting clothes or toys! The only thing stopping it being a 5* review is that I expected there to be more of a link to mindfulness and using knitting as a sort of calming or selfsoothing therapy. Unfortunately this isn't as well done as I'd hoped, and is just a few suggestions to be calm while attempting to knit. Otherwise an excellent book for a novice knitter such as myself. * Gemma Myatt *This book is fabulous. Lots of easy patterns and really relaxing and fun to do. After having major surgery it truly has been wonderful to sit, relax and concentrate on some simple, fun patterns. I am making the bunting at the moment for my granddaughters Wendy house. I stopped knitting a couple of years ago but am so thrilled to have been given this book. Starting again on these small fun projects has definitely given me the knitting bug again * Jo Carter *I really like this book. The title suggests you will find stress relief, much like the mindful colouring books, by using it. To me, it also indicates that a novice to knitting, a complete beginner, will be able to access this craft. Indeed, the book is aimed at the beginner knitter - although there are some more complex techniques in the "New Skills" section - and the projects on offer are those typically found in basic knitting books: scarves, hats, fingerless mittens, a basic teddy bear, bag, shawl etc. So why is this book different? Both Betsan Corkhill (the healthcare professional) and Lynne Rowe (experienced knitter and teacher) write a foreward or introduction about how therapeutic knitting can benefit your health, as well as how to use this book. Each section is introduced thoughtfully - phrases include 'quick fix to raise your mood', 'feelgood effects', 'the feeling of success will motivate and inspire you.' Projects are well organised in sections that follow 'a creative path' as suggested by the sub-heading (Quick & Easy; Portable; Group; Big; New skills) and beautifully photographed against neutral backgrounds or the beach - very tranquil! The font is well chosen and the layout of each page colour co-ordinated and not remotely 'busy' as some knitting patterns are. A beginner would not find themselves overwhelmed. All techniques needed are easy to understand and well illustrated - the 'knitting-in-the-round' description is the simplest I've ever seen! - and all techniques are listed in the index at the back for ease of reference. Not understanding how to achieve an effect is one of my biggest causes of stress, so this element of the book has been well researched. I wouldn't necessarily buy it myself (I was sent a copy in return for an Amazon review) as I'm an experienced knitter with a small knitting business and create my own patterns. However, I have several friends who have occasionally come to me with advice on knitting as a possible means of stress-relief, and I've always helped as much as I can. In future, I will be recommending this book, and indeed will be listing it on my Facebook page (Kwerky Knits). I can see myself buying it as a gift too. Let me leave you with a description of the opening title page photo: feet in knitted socks (from this book) resting on a comfy cushion (from this book) beside a teapot and mug in cosies (from this book)...a roaring fire in the background. Feeling calm yet?! * Angela Blay *I found the book quite good and as a novice knitter it was lovely to see some easier knits! * Ari Taylor *I find knitting itself quite therapeutic and a great stress reliever so this book is great to encourage this, its also ideal for beginners as it has simple instructions and the layout was clear and simple and not too' fussy'. it has a simple explanation into each technique ie stitch, tension, and casting on etc at the back of the book which I found interesting and very helpful being a novice. It was good that there were different options such as 'quick and easy projects' and if you had some time you could go onto the 'big projects' which I found nice, and also under theses headings were little tips such as taking your knitting on the go to help manage stress while out and about! * Kirsty Webb *I found that the idea of starting a big project would be calming as you have something long term you can keep going back to, which to me is calming and something to look forward to! * Jane Symonds *Overall I think this is a great book if your looking to relieve stress as a beginner but even if your not I still think it has some lovely projects which you would enjoy and in itself will help relax you, the book itself does not tell you how to knit yourself calm but the actual process of it-it works.I cant wait to try some of the more challenging projects :o) * Patricia M. Shepard *A helpful little book. Good advice as to how knitting can make you calm and some lovely patterns to try. Some patterns were easy and some required a little more knitting experience but overall very appealing. The only criticism would be that the the info in the introduction about the way each section was to be of benefit could have been re-iterated on each pattern. Overall I feel some people will find it useful others may just enjoy the patterns but any benefit is helpful. * Margaret Benson *Would have liked to have more information about how knitting can make you calm, and using the information to link to the patterns. As it stands, it's a perfectly ok knitting book, but it doesn't seem to cover the concept of how and why knitting makes you de-stress. * Carole Phillips *This book might not be what I expected but I like it. I need to say that I'm not a prolific knitter. I know the basics but that's about it. This book is perfect for beginners, or people like me who have little experience of knitting. There is a section at the end that covers the basics with clear pictures that I find really useful. The "projects" are split into groups: quick and easy, portable, group, big, and new skills. I think a few of them stand out as the kind of projects I want to have a go at: the patchwork blanket that incorporates lots of different stitches and colours (I'm sure you can pick it up easily whenever), the nursery blanket looks quite trendy, and so does the evening purse. * Charlotte Forcer *Books touting the stress-busting properties of crafting are commonplace, and this collection, cowritten by two knitters who have researched the therapeutic benefits of knitting, provides a bounty of simple, low-frustration projects. Rowe and Corkhill group their designs by type—quick and easy, portable, group, big, and new skills—so knitters are free to choose the one appropriate for their situation. Most include fairly simple, easy-to-memorize, basic stitch patterns. Knitters who prefer exploring more complicated techniques will find a few projects in the “new skills” section, which includes simple stranded knitting, cables, and duplicate stitch. VERDICT Rowe and Corkhill see the mindful aspects of knitting as something serious and enduring rather than trendy, and it shows. Beginning knitters looking for a way to unwind will find both projects and tips in this collection. * Library Journal, USA *This book was borne out of a survey into the benefits of knitting undertaken in 2013 and reported in the British Journal of Occupational Therapy. It is said that knitting is relaxing and helps reduce or manage stress. I would agree with that as a lifelong knitter, apart from the times when I make a mistake and hate knitting with a vengeance. A rare occurrence as it happens. This book includes 16 projects designed by Lynne Rowe and wellbeing expert Betsan Corkhill. Simple and quick projects help you to familiarise yourself with the joys of knitting. There are group projects, portable ones and larger projects. The projects don't just go for basic garter stitch, they introduce pattern too. There are the standard hats and scarves but also washcloths, socks, a huggable teddy, blankets, bunting, shawl, bag, purse, mitts, hot water bottle cover, a teacosy and mug warmers. Please note the socks use 5 needles and the hat is knitted on circular needles - this for me is the most stressful kind of knitting. Socks can be knitted on two needles. Basic knitting instructions are given at the back of the book with step-by-step clear photos. The book takes you from basic knitting - garter, rib, two-row patterns up to chevrons, cables and intarsia. A good balance of projects and a great starter knitting book. * Yarnsandfabrics.co.uk *Create beautiful projects designed to calm and soothe. The introduction is written by Betsan Corkhill, an experienced healthcare professional who founded the community interest company stitchlinks.com in 2005. It has grown into a global online community for those who enjoy the therapeutic benefits of craft, and in particular, knitting. Betsan has also advised on the projects included in the book and the repetitive techniques promote a calm state. Knitting is a relaxing and therapeutic pastime, and this winning combination focuses on mindfulness and the perfect stress-busting knitting projects. Whether you choose a portable project to knit on the go, a group project to do with friends, or one that introduces new skills to stimulate a creative mind, this book is the perfect path to keeping calm. The book is aimed at beginners as well as more advanced knitters but does not include anything more complex than basic knit and purl stitches, increasing, decreasing and some simple colourwork. Lynne Rowe covers the essential techniques at the start of the book, followed by projects that have been specifically designed for mindfulness. The projects themselves are split into five sections: Quick and Easy, Portable, Group, Big and New Skills. Within these sections, you can choose to make things such as a washcloth, a hat, a blanket, a shawl, and an evening bag, amongst others. Every single one has been designed to promote calm and mindfulness and all the projects are beautifully photographed with clear and simple knitting patterns. Whatever your skill level, there are plenty of projects in this book to help you achieve calm, bust those stress levels and enjoy a pastime which is creative, fun and produces beautiful projects to wear, or for the home. * Hot Brands Cool Places *Table of ContentsQuick & Easy: Washcloths, Men's Scarf, Chunky Cushions, Portable: Cartridge Stitch Cowl, Hats, Socks, Group: Squares Blanket, Bunting, Teddy Big Projects: Nursery Blanket, Shawl, Bag New Skills: Tea Cosy and Mug Cosy, Cabled Mittens, Herringbone Stitch Evening Bag, Hot Water Bottle Techniques: Tension, Casting on (the 2 methods), Casting of, How to knit and purl, Garter stitch and stocking stitch, Increasing, Decreasing, Knitting in the Round, Blocking, Mattress stitch, Making a pom-pom, Picking up stitches Kitchener stitch, Tea Cosy and Mug Cosy: Fairisle, Cabled Mittens: Cables, Hot Water Bottle Cover: Duplicate stitch

Book Synopsis200 Fun Things to Knit contains an irresistible collection of small and cute knitting projects* for all levels of ability. Containing a mix of beautiful, three-dimensional projects inspired by nature - flowers, birds, bugs, leaves and even creatures from the sea - as well as a collection of charming floral square motifs, the reader will have no trouble finding something to inspire them. Ideal for using up scraps of yarn, the 200 mini projects are quick and easy to make, both at home and on the go. Compiled by top knitting designers, they make stylish embellishments to give or to keep. *Projects have appeared in previous publications.Trade ReviewWonderful book with easy to read instructions and patterns. Would definitely recommended to others who love to knit like me -- Lauren Meyer * Customer Review *This is a lovely book with some inspiring projects for all levels. There is a handy 'pattern selector' at the front which is a small photo of each project with the relevant page number & the degree of difficulty indicated. The photos are repeated plentifully with each pattern along with recommended yarn weight & colours used. The patterns are clearly written & easy to follow, some of the floral blocks have charts rather than written patterns. In addition to the charming patterns a section at the end of the book gives help on subjects such as basic knitting stitches, cables, finishing off & joining floral blocks. With this book in my library I will be able to use any small amounts of left over yarn with ease, there seems to be something for every possible ocassion imaginable & a good place to start. I can imagine using a number of these designs to make broaches or other pieces of jewellery to give as gifts. As stated at the beginning of the book theses patterns have appeared elsewhere but if one found one wished to focus more on one subject than another then this would be a good place to learn that. -- louise waters * Customer Review *A good collection of patterns amalgamated from other books. Great for little add on handmade gifts - butterflies could be brooches, some of the flowers would make pretty gift tags. This book appeals to me because the patterns are easy to follow and don't take like to complete. Excellent for using up left over bits of yarn. -- Tracy Stanley * Customer Review *Fun isn't something you can only have when you crochet. You can have fun when you knit, too. Lesley, Betty, Jessica and Kristin have just as much knowledge and experience of knitting as they do of crochet. And just as much love. In this book, there are floral block and chart designs to be stitched together into a blanketm cushion cover or shawl. But it's the 3d projects inspired by fish, birds, flora and fauna that are perhaps the most fun of all. You could knit yourself a whole aquarium of tropical fish. Or how about a family of blue tits? You might also want to knit a maple leaf, an acorn... or if it's Christmas, a sprig of mistletoe. The patterns are accessible for beginners and experienced knitters alike, and can be made up using odds and ends of yarn. The more you knit, the better you get. But what's the point in knitting and crochet, if it's not fun? * Knitting & Crochet - Woman's Weekly *Great selection of patterns with a variety of difficulty. This book clearly shows how difficult or easy a pattern is with a simple rating. As a fairly new knitter i found the ratings very helpful. There a beautiful photographs through out and clear instructions. This is a great book to dip into on a rainy day. -- Heather Graham * Customer Review *I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review - how lucky! Love the 'expanded contents' pages with photos of all the projects, their difficulty rating and by group e.g. under the sea - these make project planning and selection easy. There's a wide selection of both 2D (flat) and 3D projects all of which could easily be combined to create woolly wall murals, mobile hangings, keyrings, detail on clothing etc. Great way to use up any scraps of yarn, and possibly get your children knitting with you at the same time. Would I buy this book if I'd seen it in a shop? Yes, and would recommend to crafting friends too as well as knitters. * Customer Review *A lovely book full of wonderful little makes. No matter your skill level, there is something for everyone. I will be making many of the creatures; and I will be turning some of the flower blocks into blankets and other items. All in all, a lovely book that covers a wide variety. -- Em Day * Customer Review *This is a great book with easy to understand instructions. So many interesting projects. I particularly love the flowers section. Lovely lovely book and I can't wait to get started on these projects -- Jenifer Susan Garner * Customer Review *This is a lovely book. Techniques are explained at the back of the book. I particularly like the sea animals and birds and insects you can knit. I think they would look lovely on a mobile for a baby's nursery. I would have preferred more animal themed knits but there are around 50 designs which are patterns to knit onto blocks, I probably wouldn't use these. Overall a lovely book for making quick cute little knits :) -- Keshia Esgate * Customer Review *200 small projects to knit no matter what your skill level. Levels are indicated from beginner to advanced. 3D projects are inspired by nature and include knitted flowers, birds, bugs, leaves and sea creatures. You'll also find floral block designs. Projects are a great way to use up odd leftover yarn. Equipment, yarn, knitting and crochet as well as finishing techniques are given at the back of the book, with useful images. Photos of all the projects appear at the front of the book, then again with the instructions. Some of the floral blocks have chart designs, I like the flower beds and these blocks could be stitched together to make a blanket. I can see the crab and bird's nests being very popular. The blue-tit is a must-knit. * yarnsandfabrics.co.uk *All the patterns are clearly written and easy to follow, and they're great for using up all the odds and ends that I can't bear to throw away. -- Rebecca Milton * Customer Review *This imaginative book boasts patterns featuring decorative flowers, leaves, bugs butterflies and more! This irresistibly cute collection of small knitting projects inspired by nature is suitable for knitters of all abilities, meaning that experienced crafters can make alongside complete knitting novices. Readers will find a mix of beautiful, three-dimensional projects inspired by nature - flowers, birds, bugs, leaves and even creatures from the sea, as well as a collection of charming floral motifs. Ideal for using up scraps of yarn, the 200 mini projects are quick and easy to make, both at home and on the go. Compiled by top knitting designers, they make stylish embellishments to give or to keep. The created knits would make perfect toys for young children, or to create decorative scenes. * Craft Business *A great book full of ideas. This book contains a wealth of ideas to knit using small amounts of yarn from a knitter’s stash. The projects could be used to embellish a project or as stand alone projects. The instructions for the projects are clear and the photographs enable the knitter to visualize each project. I can see that ideas could easily be used as part of a group project such as under the sea, what one may find in a garden or springtime has arrived. Some of the projects are motifs within squares, some are 3D and others could easily be used as a border for a jumper or hat. The projects range in difficulty such as an easy harvest leaf or a more complex Yeti crab. The knitter can expand their skills by trying out different ones to develop their skills. I would recommend this book to add to your library. -- Monica Russel – Knitting DesignerTable of ContentsPrelims Pattern selector Pattern instructions Stitches and techniques Index Credits

Search Press Ltd Mandalas to Crochet: 30 Great Patterns
Book SynopsisCrocheted mandalas are having a moment! And it is no wonder the mandala is in vogue: one evening is often enough to begin and finish something eye-catching. This book celebrates the sheer fun of making and showcases Haafner Linssen’s modern colour schemes and patterns. With full patterns and inspiring photos, a review of crochet techniques that helps you create a perfect circle, a discussion of materials, colours, finishing techniques, and lots of project ideas, this book is a guarantee for many hours of happy mandala-making.Trade ReviewThere are 30 mandala patterns to crochet in this book, all sorts of colours and all sorts of stitches. However what I particularly like about these mandalas is the fact they are all new and very modern to look at. nothing too lacy and the colours are for everyone, neither too bright or too pastel. These days I like to review a book by actually making something from it. I find it is easy to lose yourself in beautiful images, be inspired to get your hook out and all to often be disappointed by a pattern that is hard to follow or is not well written. Has that ever happened to you? Therefore I made two mandalas from this book, and I am pleased to announce the patterns are superb, easy to read, they flow nicely and there are charts too. I am just getting to grips with charts. I find if I do not understand a pattern instruction, a quick glance at a chart makes it all very obvious as to where I am to place my hook for the next stitch. The photographs are clear bright and enticing and best of all there are projects. My problem with mandalas is what to do with them after you have made them. This book has the answers. My next project from this book, will be a mandala that i will turn into a dream catcher, I have feathers and everything! If you are pondering buying this book (as I was) ponder no more...go get it. You will not be disappointed. Message to Haafner 'please can you write another crochet book asap please?' Full review including images of the finished projects: http://www.lazydaisyjones.com/2016/06/crochet-book-review-mandalas-to-crochet.html * Lazy Daisy Jones *I recently got my hands on this book Mandalas to Crochet by Haafner Linssen. Published by Search Press. I love crocheting mandalas, there’s just something very soothing and relaxing about doing these. Plus they are normally quick to make up, so you have a finished project in no time, which is a bonus as I always seem to have unfinished works in progress lying around, but then again doesn’t every crafter?! The author starts off by giving you information on yarns and selecting colours. Also she gives tips on crocheting the perfect mandala and by using certain techniques how you can achieve a more finished polished look to your work. If you are a beginner some of this information might go over your head for example, she uses standing stitches to begin rounds but you can still do them using the starting chain. I found this section very informative as she gives you information on starting rounds, joining a round, reading charts and how to do invisible joins, which I have always been lazy about doing but hey it does look better! She breaks the mandalas down into the following sections: Basic: which as the name suggests is a good place to start off if you are a beginner. The mandalas here are basic patterns just increasing and using different colours. A good place to start. Classic: these patterns are a little more challenging but still doable, more advanced stitches are used like popcorn and front post trebles. I crocheted the Lovely Lace Mandala & the Make it Pop Mandala from this section. Flowers: these patterns had a flower like theme and all so beautiful. I did the mandala “Oriental Lily” from this section and its my favourite from the book. Something Special: the last section of the book, again more beautiful mandalas with great colour combinations. All the mandalas in the book have a chart included too. The next section deals with borders and how you can finish off your work with a pretty border. She gives examples. The final section is all about projects and how you can incorporate the mandalas into projects. She lists the following: boho bag, hotpad, tablemat, summer scarf, lap blanket, rug and finally leaves and lace blanket, which is stunning. If you enjoy crocheting mandalas then this is the book for you, she gives 30 patterns which you crochet in no time and make them your own, simply by changing the colours or adding a different border. Full review including crocheted mandalas: https://themessybrunette.com/2016/06/15/book-review-mandalas-to-crochet-30-great-patterns-by-haafner-linssen/ * themessybrunette.com *A very well presented book, with clear sections and instructions. The patterns are all attractive and appealing, which I find unusual for a crochet book! The colourways are stylish and tasteful, but of course, you could use something more vibrant if you wanted. There are patterns included which create some unusual textures, so these could no doubt inspire you to take things further. This book is enough to encourage me to pick up a hook again. * Sue Gardener Buchanan *I was lucky enough to win a copy of this book and I am so glad that I did. Very well written with plenty for the novice right through to the advanced crocheter. Plenty of beautiful illustrations too which are really helpful * Emma Sweeny *this was perfect as it had a type of refresher type course which was perfect as it had been a few years since my last go so this was the most beneficial part. Great step by step instructions and how to do them in various colours annd yarns Any age this book is ideal for * Julie Henderson *Very happy with this book, I'm a beginner and I found it very easy to follow. Lots of designs to choose from. Would recommend to anyone who wants to learn * Victoria East *We all know about granny squares, but how about circular patterns? Mandalas need no introduction due to their popularity in other crafts, and now they are given the crochet treatment. Choose from thirty different patterns and seven projects and start your own mandala adventure. This book has a beautiful cover that reminds me of the mandala coloring books that are so popular currently. If you are at least an improver level crocheter, you can tackle these patterns, and the book includes a handy refresher course to remind you of the stitches (nice clear diagrams with good use of color). There are also helpful diagrams for things like fastening off, joining rounds and other things related to working in the round, as well as tips about choosing colors. There is a short section on how to make your work flat and neat, and a whole series of pages depicting each mandala so you can choose which you want to make. The patterns are grouped into basic, classic, flowers and something special, and all feature a chart and written instructions as well as the size hook you need (3mm features most often). The projects are well laid out and easy to read, albeit with quite small not very bold print. I think that the large photos make getting it right easier, and certainly make you want to get started. At the back you can find the projects, and see how the mandalas can be sized up or down to make a bag, scarf, mat, hot pad, two different blankets and a gorgeous bath mat, my own favorite. I always admire anybody who can take an idea like granny squares and stand it on its head, showing how versatile crochet truly is. A unique and user-friendly book. * Rachel Hyde - Myshelf.com *This book is a great for any who enjoys crochet. It is good for a beginner and a more advance hooker alike. The book begins with the basics of crochet, including stitches, yarn selection, colour selection, hook selection and even trouble shooting. By the time you have read this section you are fully armed to make great choices to ensure your project looks amazing. The book then goes on to show you various mandalas. It starts with basic patterns and works up to more advanced options. The pattern is given in chart form and in written. Meaning which ever way you prefer to crochet it is all there for you. The patterns are easy to follow and give clear consise instructions. More importantly the mandalas you can produce are simply stunning. The next part of the book contains projects for you to try. These include a bags and blankets. Once you have completed these you will be fully armed to make a variety of stunning projects out of your mandalas and you can take you creativity to the next level and try out your own projects. The book ends with a summary of all the symbols and abbreviations used in the book. Nothing is left to chance or assumed you know. It is all in the book for you. I heartily recommend this book for anyone interested in crochet. It is the best book in my library at the moment and I see it being extremely hard to replace. best purchase I have made. * Lisa Mayles *This is a lovely, well written crochet book. There are some really interesting tips in the "read this first" section for making joins and step ups invisible. Then there's a crochet refresher course with really clear diagrams of all the stitches together on a few pages which I love. Some books spread the different stitches all over the book and you're forever having to look them up in the index. Next there are 30 mandala patterns with written instructions and diagrams. I must admit I found the diagrams really scary when I first saw them but after reading the introduction they made sense. I was pleased to find some projects at the back of the book with a good selection of things to make with the mandalas. I've only recently learnt to crochet but I've made a start on my first mandala and it's going well so far. I'm looking forward to having a go at some of the more challenging patterns too. * Jane Turnball *Lovely book that crocheters of every level of ability, (even beginners due to the comprehensive guide to every stitch used at the start of the book) will be able to read and make beautiful mandalas. Wonderful use of colour and easy to follow written instructions and charts. Also, some fabulous ideas on how to use your mandalas to make lovely items such as a throw, bag, etc. * Emma Sweeney *This is a stunning well written book. It features 30 mandalas and 7 projects. There is a great begining section showing how to do the stitches, use of different threads and hooks with illustrations to show the finished project. The mandalas do not tell you what thread to use so I guess it lets you experiment. I tried the scallops of the sea and found it helpfull that there was both written and chart instructions as well as a photo of how it will turn out. A beginner can easily create a mandala and there is enough to challenge a more experienced crocheter. A delightful book to browse through. I will look forward to more from Haafner Linssen. * Alice Cowie *As a novice crocheter myself at first glance this looked a little daunting but after reading it through I decided to give my first mandala a go. The instructions are clear and easy to read, I did use YouTube videos as a visual aid to make sure I was doing it right to begin with. But it's so simple to pick up and I soon found myself confident in what I was doing. The colours of images are wonderfully vibrant and really inviting to look at. They draw you into the book. It's a sturdy book made from good quality paper that will definitely stand the test of time. With 128 pages to read, there will definitely be something that catches everyone's to try. I can't wait to get stuck in to my next mandala project. Thank you for making such an excellent book! * Jodi Darnley *April 2016 The mandala is in vogue right now and if you love the granny square then you'll adore this modern take on the crochet doily! Using modern colour schemes and eye catching patterns, each project will take you through the process of creating a perfect circle with large format charts full instructions and inspiration project ideas. Hook one up as a table mat, or go bigger and turn your mandala into a colourful cushion, some wall art for your home or even a stylish bag! You can easily make one in an evening or weekend and they're great stash-busters for yarn hoarders. There are 10 projects in this book, guaranteeing hours of happy mandala making * Love Crochet *This is a beautiful book showing how to create a variety of mandalas, from the delicate to more substantial items like a bathroom rug. With detailed instructions and beautiful photography, this book is an inspiration! * Hot Brands, Cool Places *Mandalas are making a huge revival at the moment. Haafner has taken this and brought mandalas to the present. The book starts with a before you begin section. This takes you through everything you need to know to make the mandalas. It sets you up and gets you ready. It takes you through everything from colour to yarns to use. You are supplied with a complete crochet refresher course. It shows you step by step each of the stitches used. Illustrations are supplied with the instructions which make it very easy to follow. The patterns are in written format and in chart format. Not only do you get patterns of mandalas you also get projects which you can also use them in. This book is really special. I love the mandalas and I love the projects ever more! * Crochet Addict UK *Mandalas – colourful circles to crochet. This book includes easy to make, quick to make mandalas. These designs can be completed in an evening. The book includes Before You Begin, Mandala Selector and Mandala Patterns. The latter are split into categories: Basic, Classic, Flowers, Special and Borders. You’ll find all the stitches you need, full instructions and charts for 30 mandalas. My favourites are Scallops and Confetti (neither are shown on the cover). Each design is clearly shown with good photos and clear instructions. Once you have mastered making mandalas, check out the seven projects for a beautiful bag, hotpads, table mats, scarf, blankets and rug. * Karen Platt- yarnsandfabrics.co.uk *The book is very detailed. It contains 30 great mandala patterns for you to crochet. There are three chapters in the book, beginning with the essential information you may need. Including a crochet refresher course with the stitches and techniques needed and a beautiful section on all the different yarns you can use. The book then moves onto different colour combinations and how you can create a colour plan. There are many mandala patterns to choose from so there is a section on called the mandala selector. The book then moves into the patterns. This is where the author has chosen her 30 favourite patterns for the readers to try. There are patterns ranging from simple to advanced using very technical stitches. The final chapter is mandala projects you can get stuck into. This is the most exciting part of the book in my opinion! There are all sorts of things you can make with the mandala patterns, from a boho bag to table mats, scarves and blankets. * rachelbustin.com *This book is beautifully presented with easily readable well-spaced print and UK terminology. Large clear photos and charts accompany all patterns. Each chart has a symbol key with it, so there is every encouragement to get into chart-reading if you are new to this. It begins with a brief refresher section on all the crochet stitches used, including 'magic ring'. Next, some unusual methods for starting and finishing rounds to make the join less visible. Also tips to avoid ruffling or cupping of your circular piece. The effect of colour choice is well illustrated by a picture of the same mandala done in 8 different colour schemes. There are 30 mandala patterns divided into basic and other categories. The first ones are in simple all over dc, htr or tr, but later more stitches such as basket-weave, popcorn, spiked and post stitches are featured. I tried "Make it Pop!" (p68) and was very pleased with the result. The book ends with 7 projects, including a mandala rug made with T-shirt yarn and a 10 mm hook! -- Sally Magill * Slipknot, The Knitting & Crochet Guild Magazine *Table of ContentsAbout this Book 6 Welcome to My World 8 Before You Begin 10 Yarns 12, Colour Me Happy 14, Read this First! 16, Crochet a Perfect Mandala 18, Crochet Refresher Course 20 Mandala Selector 26 Mandala Patterns 36 Basic Courtly Crown 38, Go with the Flow 40, Handsome Hoops 42, Granny Circle 44, Pebble in the Pond 46, Pretty Pieces 48 Classic Flirty Fifties 50, Rajasthan 52, Ice Cream 54, Starry, Starry Night 56, Lovely Lace 58, Marvellous Myriad 60, Bewitching Basketweave 64, Scallops of the Sea 66, Make it Pop! 68 Flowers Dainty Daisy 70, Tulips from Amsterdam 72, African Flower Love 74, Oriental Lily 76, Leaves and Lace 78, Strawberry Blossom 80, Say it with Flowers 82, Field of Wild Flowers 84 Something Special Love Me Loops 86, Layers and Loops 88, Confetti Time! 90 Enchanted April 92, Dazzling Days 94, Vintage Vibes 98, Delightful Doily 100 Borders 102 Projects 106 Boho Bag 108, Hotpad 110, Tablemat 112, Summer Scarf 114, Lap Blanket 116, Rug 118, Leaves and Lace Blanket 120 Symbols and Abbreviations 124 Index 126 Credits 128

Search Press Ltd Knit Me, Dress Me, Love Me: Cute Knitted Animals
Book SynopsisThis book is filled with cute, easy knits with a vintage feel. There are knitting patterns for seven different adorable animal toys – a rabbit, a kitten, a mouse, a puppy, a panda, a teddy and a monkey, each approx. 8 inches (20cm) high, and all easy and quick to knit. Each animal is accompanied by a mini knitted version of itself that can be stored in the little shoulder bag or backpack that each toy carries. There are patterns for over 50 garments and accessories in which to dress the toys - most of them knitted and some sewn garments. All the clothes are one size and designed to fit every animal, so the reader can mix and match items to create their chosen toy's own unique wardrobe. The outfits are split into themes such as Out to Play, Picnic Time and Time for School, and include pyjamas, outdoor clothes, summer dresses, school uniform and so on, with added accessories. Readers are encouraged to use up scraps of yarn and fabric they already have for the clothes, re-using materials from a favourite item that’s long since outgrown to make a keepsake toy that has special significance. Trade ReviewI received this book to review. such a lovely book to look at with lots of different patterns to knit for some very cute critters even vest and pants! love the easy to follow pictures which is great for a beginner like me. also loved that there was clothes to sew from fabric aswell. lots of lovely photos too, very enjoyable. i can't wait to start knitting. -- Claire Ireland * Customer Review *This is a lovely book. With easy to follow instructions. -- Tracey Macdonald * Customer Review *I bought this book at the Edinburgh Yarn Festival, because I was utterly charmed. I showed it to everyone there, and I wanted to show it to everyone here too. I love knitting patterns for toys of any kind - bears, dolls, creatures. And this one hits the jackpot! It's patterns for adorable creatures in doll-form, with patterns for the various outfits to match! Each of the seven dolls - puppy, kitten, bear, panda, mouse, monkey and bunny - comes with a pattern for a mini-me. And the outfits and accessories - most knitted, but some sewn -are ridiculously cute and clever. There's a sweater or two, as you'd expect, but there are also dresses and jeans and shoes and socks and slippers and stripey tights (YES!!!!! REALLY!!!) amd pjs and even a house-coat and undies! The accessories are very pleasing: there's a little felt school satchel and bedding and books and a picnic basket and all sorts of other delights, all knitted or sewn. The book itself is terrific: well-illustrated, with good patterns and helpful tutorials for key knitting techniques, and the sewing and embroidery skills required. The dolls are worked in worsted/DK yarn and clothes and accessories for fingering. Although entirely appropriate for making gifts for babies and small children, this sort of thing may well appeal to adult knitters who are in need of smaller projects to use up leftovers, or just a dose of clever and charming cuteness. -- Kate Atherly * Knitty.com *Knit five 8” cute animals and their “mini me” doll counterparts plus a whole wardrobe of mix and match outfits with this fun stash-busting book. Choose from bunny, mouse, kitten, monkey, puppy, teddy or panda and kit them out for school, bedtime, beach, snow or picnic. This is not a book for the total beginner as like most pattern books it does not teach knitting from scratch but improver level and upwards will enjoy these small projects. At the front several techniques featured are explained with the aid of some good-sized photographs and there are a few simple embroidery stitches to learn as well. Each toy has a life-size photograph of it front and back together with full instructions (written, no charts apart from the sweater) and there is the fun added touch of the miniature versions of the animals. Even toys need their own toys! The garments and accessories are divided into their respective themes and feature both knitting and sewing projects. These can be done by hand and are simple; the animals plus their toys can be made using a whole ball of yarn but the rest is ideal for using up odds and ends. Knitters will find this an excellent way of using up yarn and fabric and having some relaxing fun as well. * myshelf.com *May 2017 What every fashion-concious rabbit, kitten, mouse, puppy or panda needs is a fashion-forward wardrobe... and fashion forward friends. And Sue Stratford's new book has both in spades. Each of the knitted animals is the same size, and comes with its own mini version. And the clothes included fit each and every one of them, in any combination you want. There's daywear, nightwear, beachwear, footwear, wear for all seasons. The designs are made using scraps of yarn and fabrics. Perhaps when a little person has outgrown her summer dress it can be turned into a new summer dress for her hand knitted teddy or the jumper you knitted a year ago for a not-so-little-anymore little boy can be unravelled and knitted into a shirt and trousers for his toy monkey or panda. Sue Stratford knows how little hands like to dress and undress their toys. Her toys are easy to knit. They're easy to dress. And even easier to love. * Knitting & Crochet - Woman's Weekly *This title will have you squealing with delight as your flick through the pages of adorable knitted animals with interchangable outfits and accessories. Including patterns for over 50 different items you'll be able to create the perfect little animal family. * Let's Get Crafting *I just love this collection of cute animals and clothes. The assortment of clothes and accessories is very good and it includes templates for sewn items. Everything is very simple to make and I love the abbreviation chart on the back inner cover. Seven characters to knit, each with a mini version, clothes and accessories. They are all the same size so the outfits can be worn by any of the little creatures. Also known as crochet tapestry, the techniques are easy to learn and all the projects are made in Natasja's unique vintage style with black and white base colours. The patterns have clear colour charts and beautiful photos of the projects. * Machine Knitting Monthly *For a long time, beautiful, detailed colourwork was considered the preserve of knitting, but more and more detailed crochet designs are showing off just what’s possible in our own versions of intarsia and stranded colourwork techniques. Fair Isle crochet is created by working more than one colour in a row, working around the strands of the other shades as you go, and this book contains 15 stylish, contemporary designs that show off this craft to great effect. Natasja begins with the basic techniques, in which she works through the back loops only to avoid the stitches skewing to one side as they stack up. Then it’s on to the patterns, all worked in simple dc stitches following full-colour charts. There’s a sweet set of baby designs, including a blanket, storage pockets and cuddly bunny, and a selection of stylish modern homewares, such as plant holders, a stunning pouffe, geometric pillows and a large throw that shows off a variety of colourwork arrangements. This is a gorgeous collection ideal for sprucing up your home and practising a versatile new technique. * Inside Crochet *The Fair Isle we all know seems a far cry from the bold Scandinavian style of the projects in this book illustrated on the front cover, but it is based on the same idea - using more than one strand of coloured yarn to make patterns based on 'one stitch = one square' and carrying the temporarily unused yarn along with the stitches as you crochet. As Natasja says, it is closely related to the Mochila technique and tapestry. There are instructions and diagrams for the few basic techniques needed for Fair Isle crochet. The author gives a useful tip to avoid tangles: use a shoe box to hold different balls and cut slits in the side to channel the different ends. The patterns all have big coloured charts and varying amounts of written instructions. There are 15 chunky, Scandinavian-style projects, all for the home, such as a baby blanket, cushion and plant pot cover. Simple motifs in black and white plus touches of other colours are used throughout. -- Sally Magill * Slipknot, The Knitting & Crochet Guild Magazine *This is an intriguing new technique, which looks like Fair Isle knitting but as the title says is actually crochet. This book is a comprehensive collection of projects for the home, from small stash busting ideas to larger projects to get your teeth into. The instructions are clear, and the first section of the book is a well written guide to working the patterns. There are lots of explanations, supported by photographs throughout, with the additional snippets. This is very useful as it means you don’t need to keep flipping back and forth to get the information you need. The fabric produces is quite thick and robust as you work over the yarn not being used on a stitch. A dense fabric, it’s perfect for objects like cushions, blankets, and other items for the home. I’d recommend this book to the adventurous beginner and crocheters who are looking for something new to try. -- Jen Best * The SEW Region Magazine - Book Threads *Table of ContentsThe basic techniques 6 PROJECTS Baby blanket 10 Baby’s room storage pockets 16 Cuddly bunny 22 Clutch bag 28 Plant holders 32 Large plant holder 40 Pouffe 46 Pretty pillows 52 Throw 58 Wall hanging 64 Pastel pillows 68 Mochila bag 74
