Book SynopsisTable of ContentsCONTENTSForeword Introduction Bentley 100 Years Timeline Chapter 1 – W.O. The founder of the company begins his career in railway engineering before joining his brother in a company selling DFP cars – which he soon modifies for greater performance. Bentley Motors Limited is formed in 1919.Chapter 2 – Glory Years Bentley builds fine 3-Litre, 41/2-Litre, 61/2-Litre and 8-Litre cars, including the famed 41/2-Litre ‘Blower’. Its strong, reliable racing cars win five times in the new 24-hour race at Le Mans. Diamond heir Woolf Barnato becomes Bentley’s financial backer.Chapter 3 – Crisis and Rescue Following the Great Depression of 1929 Bentley struggles financially, until rescued by Rolls-Royce in November 1931. Production moves to Derby, then to Crewe after the Second World War.Chapter 4 – Going Continental Bentley introduces the new R-type saloon and then a fastback car which was to become one of its most famous – the R-type Continental. The S-type follows in three phases, but the S3 is destined to be the last Bentley with a body style not shared with Rolls-Royce until the 1980s.Chapter 5 – Badge Engineering Bentley’s T-series is a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow with different badges. There are two-door and convertible variants, but Bentleys remain rare compared to their Rolls-Royce equivalents.Chapter 6 – R for Revival Signs of revival for Bentley begin with the Mulsanne Turbo, which has no Rolls-Royce equivalent. The Turbo R accelerates the trend, offering better roadholding and handling, and there’s a cut-price Eight saloon. At the other end of the scale a new Continental becomes the most expensive car on sale.Chapter 7 – From Vickers to Volkswagen Vickers, Bentley’s parent company since 1980, sells Rolls-Royce/Bentley in 1998. BMW and Volkswagen vie for ownership, and eventually BMW takes over Rolls-Royce (ultimately establishing a new factory at Goodwood) while Bentley and the Crewe facility come under the ownership of Volkswagen.Chapter 8 – Back to Le Mans Bentley returns to racing with the EXP Speed 8 designed and built by Racing Technology Norfolk in Hingham. On its third attempt in 2003 it wins the Le Mans 24-hour race with a car driven by Tom Kristensen, Dindo Capello and Guy Smith.Chapter 9 – Building the Bentley Brand Bentley introduces a new model line, the Continental GT, powered by a W12 engine, which establishes Bentley as a major player in the luxury car market. A Flying Spur saloon, a GT3 racing car and a new V8 engine follow.Chapter 10 – Onwards and Upwards Bentley diversifies with a new flagship saloon, the Mulsanne, and the controversial Bentayga SUV, alongside a new-generation Continental GT. Electrification begins with a plug-in hybrid Bentayga, with big plans for the future.Model Specifications Index

  • The Dealer: How One California Dealership Fueled

Prometheus Books The Dealer: How One California Dealership Fueled

    15 in stock

Book SynopsisWhen Ferrari of Los Gatos opened, few people could afford an expensive sports car. In 1973, the average annual income was $12,686, and a new home cost about $48,000. Motorists in California could only buy gas on odd or even-numbered days based on the last digit of their license plate, due to the global oil crisis. Times were tough, and people were hesitant to take chances, especially with a car that cost more than a house. At the same time, Richard Rivoir approached his friend, Brian Burnett, with the idea of starting a Ferrari dealership. The Dealer is the story of how one dealership, Ferrari of Los Gatos, fueled the rise of the iconic Italian sports car in the U.S. market on its way to becoming the number one Ferrari dealer in North America. Even Enzo Ferrari himself took notice, flying the pair to Italy to learn more about their unique and unusual sales practices. Customers included movie stars, sports celebrities, entertainers, and some with unusual sources of income and a strong desire for a low profile. Along the way, the two men made friends, enemies, and millions of dollars, only to lose everything in the blink of an eye. Author Jim Ciardella shows readers a part of Ferrari that no one has even seen, with behind-the-scenes stories as told to him by Richard Rivoir and Brian Burnett, their customers and employees, and other North American dealers who all rode high and eventually burned out on selling fast cars.

Book SynopsisThe largest, most luxurious ship in the world, wrecked on her maiden voyage after colliding with an iceberg mid-Atlantic, has become the stuff of legends. While everyone knows the new White Star liner was glamorous, full of millionaires when she sank, few appreciate just how luxurious she was. Even in Third Class, the accommodation was better than on First Class on many older ships. For the first time, Bruce Beveridge, Steve Hall, Scott Andrews and Daniel Klistorner look at the construction and exterior of the ship itself, and at her interior design and fittings. From cobalt blue Spode china and Elkington plate silverware in the à la carte restaurant to the design of the boilers and fixtures and fittings on board the world's most luxurious vessel, they tell the story of a liner built at the peak of the race between the British, French and Germans to build bigger and better ships.

Robert Penn has ridden a bike most days of his life. He rides to get to work, to bathe in air and sunshine, to stay sane and to feel free. This is the story of his love affair with cycling and the journey to build his dream bike; a freewheeling pilgrimage taking him from Californian mountain bike inventors to British artisan frame builders, and from perfect components to the path of true happiness. ''A gem of a book ... a joy''  Economist ''Infectious, exhilarating, highly engaging''  Independent ''Be swept along by Penn''s enthusiasm, humour and refreshing candour''  Sunday Telegraph ''Enriches your enjoyment of a ride''  Sunday Times ''As a depiction of a world you might vote for, Penn''s does not sound bad at all''  Observer Robert Penn writes for the Financial Times, Observer and Condé Nast Traveller, as well as a host of cycling publications. Book SynopsisFew cars in history have grabbed the public's fancy as much as the ill-fated Edsel, the Titanic of automobiles. The magnitude of the marketing disaster has made Edsel a household word. Remarkably, there has never before been a book that tells the whole storyhow the Edsel was planned, created, produced, and marketed.Trade Review"For those struggling to make sense of the product plan, the corporate culture, the automotive landscape, or how the modern Ford Motor Company came to be Disaster in Dearborn is a good place to start." -- Automotive Design and Production"Bonsall's book is sure to appeal to the dedicated car fancier and the armchair historian in all of us." -- Road and Track"Thomas E. Bonsall, a veteran author of automobile histories, revisits the scene of [the] wreck and supplies an interesting thesis . . . .Disaster in Dearborn . . . .is lavishly illustrated, with dozens of pictures of real Edsels and sketches of Edsels that might have been." -- The Philadelphia Inquirer"Bonsall has not only found new approaches to the subject, but sheds fresh light on the oft-rehashed reasons for the Edsel's death. The book is well written, flows nicely, and artfully mixes personalities and corporate policies. It adds a great deal to our understanding of one of the twentieth century's biggest corporate disasters." -- James A. Ward * University of Tennessee at Chattanooga *"Bonsall's success is in an attention to details of development of the car and the book's rich illustrations. . . . These provide the best context for the Edsel story and serve to remind us that our largest companies can at times become hopelessly out of step with their customers." -- Library Journal"Easy to read, and packed with many rare photos, Bonsall's book is a must-read for any automotive enthusiast." -- Artvoice"With a number of great black-and-white illustrations accompanying this interesting story, Bonsall has created a winning tribute to an unfortunate loser." -- Choice

Book SynopsisTrade Review"[Written] with humor and warmth... Amid the author's personal journey reside priceless cultural and professional insights." -- Kirkus Reviews "Like Mark Twain in The Innocents Abroad, Ahrens gets good mileage out of his many gaffes as a naive American bred to act quickly, blunder through problems and disregard authority... Seoul Man also looks into the history, culture, politics and business of the remarkable success story of modern South Korea." -- Shelf Awareness "If you have ever worked in a baffling alien culture or endured a family separation because of your job, you will probably enjoy this book... An entertaining read." -- Financial Times "Hilarious" -- Unshelved "In this charming and affecting book, Ahrens finds out what makes this small but courageous country strive so relentlessly to be better. His portrait of Korea, the "shrimp between the two whales" of China and Japan, is filled with insights, youthful enthusiasm, and a zest for discovery." -- Tim Clissold, author of the international bestseller Mr. China "Lively, engaging and deeply personal, Seoul Man is at once a fascinating primer on the auto industry, a perceptive and often hilarious ex-pat adventure into "Koreanness," and the story of an ordinary man transformed through faith and the power of love." -- -Brigid Schulte, author of the New York Times bestselling Overwhelmed: Work, Love & Play when No One has the Time "Engagingly written and full of funny, intriguing probes into the quirks [Ahrens] discovers in his surroundings and himself. This is a nuanced look at a nation where an image of Western modernity is reflected and illuminated by an off-kilter mirror." -- Publishers Weekly "Ahrens's great strength is that he is sensitive to the people around him... describing the young people with whom he worked in a Korea struggling to move on from a forced collective march of industrialization to a more individualistic and creative economy." -- Washington Post "This important book undertakes three stories in one narrative about a local man's brief sojourn in a bewildering new environment... With wit about his personal dilemmas and a keen reporter's eye...Mr. Ahrens gives the reader an accessible primer." -- Washington Times "A fun take on exactly what the subtitle promises." -- Tyler Cowen, Holbert C. Book SynopsisThis book looks at the industrial policies of Southeast Asian economies in their motor vehicle industries from early import substitution to policy-making under the more liberalised WTO policy regime. The book examines how inward automotive investment, especially from Japan, has been affected by policies, and how such investment has promoted industrial development in the late-industrialising economies within ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations). It provides insights into the automotive industry of Southeast Asia in terms of production volumes, sales volumes, market structure, and trade. Through country case studies, the book is a useful reference and illustrates how industrial policies in Southeast Asia have affected the spread of automotive development in the region. It will appeal to policy-makers and researchers interested in the automobile industry, industrial policies in the industry and the spread of development from foreign investors to local firms.<Trade Review"The transition from labour-intensive to skill- and technology-intensive manufacturing, which has been crucial for countries in the region aspiring to elevate their positions in global value chain (GVCs), has attracted considerable attention from academics and policy makers. This book by Kaoru Natsuda and John Thoburn is a timely addition to the discourse as it explores the role of industrial policies in the development of the automotive sector." ─ Tham Siew Yean for Journal of Southeast Asian Economies, Volume 38, Issue 1, April 2021"To begin with I must admit that I reviewed the book proposal for the publisher (Routledge) in 2018 and that I strongly endorsed the book – together with some other reviewers. Today, after having read the finished book, I do not regret, on the contrary. The purpose of Kaoru Natsuda and John Thoburn was on the one hand to consolidate factual knowledge about Southeast Asian automobile producing countries and how they have performed during an era of economic globalisation and regionalisation until the late 2010s. And on the other hand they aimed to analyse how various industrial policies have affected the evolution of automobile industries in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam (ASEAN-5) under different trade regimes, and how industrial policy can be used in an increasingly open economic environment. The two authors have adjusted and implemented the book proposal into a highly read-able, informative and reflective book." ─ Peter Wad for Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy, 18 May 2022"The transition from labour-intensive to skill- and technology-intensive manufacturing, which has been crucial for countries in the region aspiring to elevate their positions in global value chain (GVCs), has attracted considerable attention from academics and policy makers. Book SynopsisA shocking expose of Volkswagen's fraud by the New York Times reporter who covered the scandal.Trade Review"This will go down in history books as a great corporate scandal , but the story told by the New York Times reporter Jack Ewing…is also much more than that. It’s a rich history of a company whose cars, for better and worse, have touched millions of lives, a character study of a brilliant but deeply flawed leader, and a case study in how a corporate culture can turn toxic." -- Bethany McLean - New York Times Book Review"Faster, Higher, Farther: The Volkswagen Scandal takes readers through the combination of pressures that produced what may be the biggest corporate scandal ever, detailing the company’s personalities and the history behind the saga with fluency and wit." -- The Atlantic"A shocking and incredibly compelling exposé of one of the great corporate scandals of all time....reads like a fast-paced thriller." -- The Guardian"A damning indictment of corporate malfeasance and…an accessible account of one of the most expensive business mistakes ever recorded." -- Patrick McGee - Financial Times"Exhaustive." -- Richard Epstein - Forbes"Perversely engaging." -- Barron's"A fascinating exposé....Ewing’s compelling prose makes his book read like entertainment more than education and the story of Volkswagen’s fall…is a study in corporate hubris." -- Publishers Weekly"It is a corporate scandal to rival Enron and Lehman Brothers....Ewing weaves a conspiratorial tale of corporate greed run amok. Capturing the public fascination with craven financial scandals, and with a movie in the works, Ewing’s sordid saga is the latest addition to the history of corporate fraud." -- Booklist (starred review)"A shocking, sobering story—and, given the current antiregulatory mood, one likely to be repeated." -- Kirkus"Meticulously chronicles ‘one of the greatest corporate scandals ever’." -- Library Journal

His wise, funny, erudite tour of the American car and road is part memoir, part history, part polemic. All of it is necessary. It’s like taking a long drive through the twentieth century with someone who can actually identify the sights." -- Keith Gessen, author of A Terrible Country"From Henry Ford to Elon Musk, from seat belts to self-driving cars, Dan Albert takes us on a kaleidoscopic tour of the automobile’s evolution, showing us how the future of transportation cannot be understood without investigating the past." -- Nathan Bomey, author of Detroit Resurrected: To Bankruptcy and Back"Written in a witty and infectious style, Are We There Yet? is a briskly paced guided tour of the economic, political, geographic, environmental, and aspirational influences cars have had on Americans, and vice versa. Dan Albert makes this history interesting and relevant in its own right while showing how it bears directly on the most recent automotive frontier: the much-anticipated driverless car. He reminds us how fundamentally intertwined the automobile, the built environment, and human nature have been, and that they will remain so for the foreseeable future." -- Kevin L. Borg, author of Auto Mechanics: Technology and Expertise in Twentieth-Century America"[Are We There Yet?] provides a witty history of the automobile and a look at the future…an entertaining exploration of American vehicle culture and American culture in general." -- Kirkus Reviews (starred review)"An extremely engaging work of narrative nonfiction for those who enjoy popular historical and technology reads." -- Library Journal (starred review)

Book SynopsisAn extraordinary account of the impending closure of the Holden factory in Adelaide. More than the end of a business - it''s the end of an era, of a story, and of a great Australian dream. When Holden signalled that it would close its Adelaide factory, it struck at the very heart of Australian identity. Holden is our car made on our shores. It''s the choice of patriotic rev heads and suburban drivers alike. How could a car that was so beloved - and so popular - be so unprofitable to make? The story of the collapse of Holden is about the people who make and drive the cars; it''s about sustaining industry in Australia; it''s about communities of workers and what happens when the work dries up. And if it''s not quite about the death of an icon - because Holdens will remain on Australian roads for a long time to come - then it''s about what happens when an icon falls to its knees in front of a whole nation. This updated edition features a new chapter.Trade Review. * The Weekend Australian *. * The Last Post *a compassionate insight * City Messenger *a meticulously researched piece of contemporary anthropology * CityMag Adelaide *Review * Mildura Midweek *a persuasive account of SA industry and society over half a century * Sunday Territorian *The focus of this study may be the closure of Holden in 2017, but in broader terms it's a case study of modern economics in action. * Sydney Morning Herald, The Saturday Age *

Book SynopsisConsidering that Coventry was the birthplace of the British cycle industry, it is perhaps no surprise that the city became heavily involved in the development of the British motor industry during the mid-1890s. From the first velocipedes built here in 1868, most of the later well-established cycle manufacturers quickly turned their attention to motorised vehicles, and many of the early motoring pioneers moved to Coventry to become part of this revolutionary work. Local companies such as Bayliss, Thomas & Co., Coventry Eagle, Humber, Riley, and Swift were just a few of the cycle firms quick to catch on, and steadily new companies were formed solely to manufacture motorcycles.Coventry''s Motorcycle Heritage covers the history of all these companies and their products, focussing on the individuals who both founded and worked for such firms. From world-famous companies like Triumph, to the more obscure marques like Wartnaby and Draper, it provides a brief summary of each manufacturer, as well as an insight into the social history of Coventry at the peak of its involvement in motorcycle history. It is sure to appeal to anyone interested in motorcycle history and Coventry''s industrial past.

Book SynopsisThe Jowett Motor Manufacturing Company was founded in Bradford in 1901 by Benjamin, Ruth and William Jowett. Their first product was a V-twin engine which proved to be successful in various cars. In 1906 a prototype car was built using a new design of engine. The first of a long line of Jowetts was born! After a few years of tinkering, the car was ready for production. While few Jowetts were made during the First World War, expansion took place during the war and production restarted in 1920. By 1927, over 3,000 Jowetts were leaving the factory per year with their owners enjoying reliable, economical motoring. By the end of the Second World War, Jowett had modified the pre-war commercial and re-named it the Bradford. The van was a success and helped keep the company busy while it readied itself for production of the Javelin, a unitary construction saloon with a flat-four engine. More successes followed and they led to the Jupiter sports model being developed by ERA. But the company was in trouble by the early 1950s. Not enough sales of the Javelin and development costs of new models led to the sale of the factory in early 1954. A few Jupiters were made out of spare parts but the end was in sight. Spare parts continued to be supplied till 1963 and this led indirectly to a relatively large number of cars surviving. Today they are catered for by the longest running one-make car club in the world, the Jowett Car Club, which was founded in 1923.

Book Synopsis In the 1970s, as car enthusiasts in the U.S. grew bored with models manufactured under tightening pollution and safety regulations, some innovative dealers exploited a legal loophole--designed to allow U.S. soldiers and diplomats to return from abroad with their vehicles--to import exotic cars never intended for sale in America. During the 1980s, a rise in the value of the dollar made car shopping in Europe a bargain hunter''s dream. A network of unauthorized gray market importers and conversion shops emerged, bypassing factory channels and retrofitting cars to meet U.S. regulations and emission standards--at least in theory. These cars had to pass through U.S. customs, a system equipped to handle only a few independent imports annually. As applications ballooned, the regulatory system collapsed. This is the story of a misunderstood but fascinating period in the automotive industry, when creative importers found ways to put American motorists in new Ferraris while the ETable of Contents Preface Introduction  1. Congress and Cars  2. Small Importers and Their Reactions  3. The First Compliance Shops  4. Making Them Pass  5. The Stoichiometric Closed Loop Electronic Feedback Controlled Breakthrough  6. The Boom  7. More Fuel on the Fire  8. In the Workshop  9. The Independent Labs 10. The Shine Rubs Off 11. Meanwhile, at Lamborghini 12. The Factories Push Back 13. An Inaction of Congress 14. The Market Winds Down 15. Lessons of the Gray Market Chapter Notes Bibliography Index

Based on employee interviews, analyses of company publications, newspaper accounts, interaction with company employees and attendance at company events over a five-year period, this book documents how Toyota is replicating its style of management and its team culture in its Kentucky plant. Team Toyota is one of the few books about Japanese organizations that incorporates the perspectives of both nonmanagement and management employees. The author, using team as an organizing metaphor, shows how Toyota is able to penetrate the small work group to increase employee commitment and recruit support for organizational goal achievement. The team metaphor shows how Toyota coordinates the myriad of departments, occupational categories and managerial levels into a community of fate (we''re all in this together) ideology. Further, the team concept is used to elaborate an important and problematic component of workers'' reality at the Camry plant?workplace disabilities. An overview of the position of female employees and wives of Japanese executives at Toyota''s Kentucky plant is also provided.

Book SynopsisReissued in paperback, this book provides an account of the Ford story from the birth of the Model T, the early conflicts with the Dodge brothers, the revolutionary announcement of the five-dollar day, and development of the moving assembly line, a concept that changed our world. It is a history of a business empire and the power of tragedy.Trade ReviewMy story is about the Henry Ford I knew as well as any man alive or dead knew him. It is about the fabulous growth and preservation of the Ford Motor Company, which, in his shaken old age, not even its owner could destroy. It is about the creation and birth in that company of what has been the miracle of the Twentieth Century: the modern American industrial system of mass production with its moving assembly line. It is not the story of Charles Sorensen. It is, however, the story that I, Charles Sorensen, was privileged to see of Henry Ford and his works. It is a story of Mr. Ford's greatest success and his most tragic failure. - Charles E. Sorensen

    Out of stock

Book SynopsisIn 1903, Henry Ford founded the Ford Motor Company in a small Detroit workshop. Five years later, he introduced the Model T and met with extraordinary commercial success. Between 1910 and 1914, he developed mass production and made the conveyor a symbol of the auto-industrial age. Then, in 1914, Ford acquired an overnight reputation as humanitarian, philanthropist and social reformer; and simultaneously infuriated the business community and stunned social reformers with his announcement of the outrageous Five Dollar Day. More than simply high-wage policy, the Five Dollar Day attempted to solve attitudinal and behavioral problems with an effort to change the worker's domestic environment. Half of the five dollars represented wages and the other half was called profitswhich the worker received only when he met specific standards of efficiency and home life that accorded with the ideal of an American way of life which the company felt was the basis for industrial efficiency. The unique and short-lived Ford program did not succeed, yet its significance as an early managerial strategy goes beyond the boundaries of success or failure. The Ford Motor Company was uniquely situated in the historical evolution of labor management and industrial technology, and this readable study of that evolution, which highlights the Ford workers, is a chapter in the larger history of labor and work in America.

  • Collision Course: Carlos Ghosn and the Culture

Harvard Business Review Press Collision Course: Carlos Ghosn and the Culture

    Out of stock

Book SynopsisNamed one of the Best Business Books of 2021 by The Wall Street JournalIn Japan it's called the "Ghosn Shock"—the stunning arrest of Carlos Ghosn, the jet-setting CEO who saved Nissan and made it part of a global automotive empire.Even more shocking was his daring escape from Japan, packed into a box and put on a private jet to Lebanon after months spent in a Japanese detention center, subsisting on rice gruel. This is the saga of what led to the Ghosn Shock and what was left in its wake. Ghosn spent two decades building a colossal partnership between Nissan and Renault that looked like a new model for a global business, but the alliance's shiny image fronted an unsteady, tense operation. Culture clashes, infighting among executives and engineers, dueling corporate traditions, and government maneuvering constantly threatened the venture.Journalists Hans Greimel and William Sposato have followed the story up close, with access to key players, including Ghosn himself. Veteran Tokyo-based reporters, they have witnessed the end of Japan's bubble economy and attempts at opening Japan Inc. to the world. They've seen the fraying of keiretsu, Japan's traditional skein of business relationships, and covered numerous corporate scandals, of which the Ghosn Shock and Ghosn's subsequent escape stand above all.Expertly reported, Collision Course explores the complex suspicions around what and who was really responsible for Ghosn's ouster and why one of the top executives in the world would risk everything to escape the country. It explains how economics, history, national interests, cultural politics, and hubris collided, crumpling the legacy of arguably the most important foreign businessman ever to set foot in Japan. This gripping, unforgettable narrative, full of fascinating characters, serves as part cautionary tale, part object lesson, and part forewarning of the increasing complexity of doing global business in a nationalistic world.Trade Review"…it provides a fascinating case study of international business for students and industry professionals alike." — CHOICE, the publication of the American Library Association"This book should be essential reading for those seeking to understand Japan and Asia more generally." — Australian Institute of International Affairs"Greimel and Sposato…deliver a vivid account of the escape…" — London Review of BooksNamed to the Longlist for Porchlight's Best Business Book Award in the Narrative & Biography Category"Collision Course is the brilliant capture of the interplay of various forces that led to the celebrated CEO's downfall and its ripple effect." — Business Standard"Messrs. Greimel and Sposato's book is less a tale of Mr. Ghosn's rise and fall than an examination of the differences in corporate, legal and political cultures between Japan and the West. How is it that such advanced economies and societies can so often misunderstand each other? And was Mr. Ghosn simply a victim of this historic pattern?" — The Wall Street Journal"a much needed plausible cause-and-effect account that helps explain a complex, often bewildering story." — Financial Times"Because of that clandestine escape, Collision Course by Hans Greimel and William Sposato, two Tokyo-based journalists, at times reads like a spy thriller. But their main aim and achievement is to give the clearest account yet of the deep-rooted causes of Mr Ghosn's predicament." — The EconomistAdvance Praise for Collision Course:"This book is brilliantly conceived and written. Although factual, it reads like a fast-paced spy novel. The authors have created a dispassionate narrative that will be of lasting value not only to business professionals but also to those devoted to the study of the human sciences." — Bob Lutz, former Vice Chairman, General Motors"Collision Course is the definitive book on the Carlos Ghosn scandal, written by two experienced journalists who use their outstanding reporting and writing skills to take the reader inside the boardrooms of Renault and Nissan to learn in vivid detail what happened to the man who was considered the savior of the Japanese automobile industry until his arrest in November 2018. The book is a must-read, filled with details not previously published, including exclusive insights from Ghosn himself." — Myron Belkind, former President, National Press Club; former President, Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan"Greimel and Sposato have taken a very complex situation and made it clear. This book is one of the best I've ever read about the automotive industry. It's a must-read." — Mark Hogan, former Group Vice President, Advance Vehicle Development, General Motors; Member of the Board, Toyota"In Collision Course, Greimel and Sposato stake a bold claim: that Carlos Ghosn, now an international fugitive sheltering in Beirut, is one of the most influential foreigners ever to set foot in Japan. The two journalists—who covered Ghosn's decade-long reign from a front-row seat in Tokyo—then lay out their case in meticulous detail, in an account that reads like a fast-paced whodunit." — Joseph Coleman, Professor of Practice in Journalism, The Media School, Indiana University; author, Unfinished Work"The Carlos Ghosn saga is about so much more than his rise and fall from charismatic superstar CEO to Japan's most wanted. Anyone interested in leadership, corporate governance, and cross-cultural management—or just a first-rate human drama—will find this a thrilling read." — Jesper Koll, Senior Advisor, Monex Group, Tokyo; former Chief Economist, Merrill Lynch, Japan"Sposato's long experience in Japan and Greimel's deep knowledge of the global automobile industry combine to reveal a tortured tale of cultural misunderstandings, government meddling, and plain old corporate backstabbing. It reads more like a Shakespearean tragedy than a business story." — Tony Winning, former editor for Asia and news editor for Europe, Reuters"Collision Course is a cautionary tale about doing business in Japan, a country that clings to the United States for its national security but remains fundamentally ethnonationalist when it comes to international business and justice. This book is a must-read." — John West, author, Asian Century . . . on a Knife-Edge; Executive Director, Asian Century Institute
