In her book, she will show readers how to: - Harness your idea to create a viable business that has longevity- Know when to leave your job, how to fund your start-up and whether you need a business partner - Generate and grow a huge following - Build contacts when no one knows who you are- Rise above pressures of social media to use it powerfully and with purpose- Create work/life balance to avoid burnout and take care of yourself Excessively Obsessed is for anyone who has ever wondered: should I start my own business? Taylor & Francis Ltd (Sales) Good Dividends Responsible Leadership of Business
Book SynopsisThis book seeks to answer the question of âleadership for what?â. We shall outline an answer by focusing on responsible leadership of purpose through an inter-disciplinary perspective. Responsible leadership moves the axis of leadership from leader-followers to leader-stakeholders; away from looking at leadership as person-centric â the qualities, abilities, and effectiveness of the leader, to a focus on the purposes, responsibilities and activities of leadership. Leadership orientation is about realising value for a range of constituencies, not just the shareholders of the business. In this way this book offers up an alternative business model to that of dominant neo-liberal approaches to capitalism and its flow-on effect to the leadership project. This is a model that draws on a most obvious assumption â if leaders maximise the use of all the capitals of their business they will maximise their dividends, and thus deliver their responsibility to the shareholders as well as other relevant stakeholders. This book explores how five dividends (based on five capitals) can be developed through attention to a sixth dividend (and sixth capital) â the dividend from our planet and communities. The planetary dividend is the flourishing of humanity â but it is also a significant dividend to the business. For example, by engaging the business in a purpose-led orientation to enhance the planetary dividend, the dividend from human resourcefulness becomes manifest â employee sense of purpose, commitment, passion and energy. The realisation of such can also connect with dividends from innovation, operations and brands. For example, the business benefits from a purpose-driven brand. In short, responsible leadership of purpose outlines a case for leadership to focus on a connected portfolio of âgoodâ dividends as an answer to the question âleadership for what?â The book is written by academics and organisational leaders. It draws on a range of research with leaders from a variety of contexts to illustrate the challenges but also the benefits of this argument. It is an ambitious book: ambitious, in terms of moving leadership towards realising purpose; ambitious by seeking to align a range of business disciplines around responsible leadership; and ambitious because it challenges the dominant assumptions that shape business leadership. However, it is based on a simple question: why would a business not wish to generate good dividends for all its stakeholders?Table of ContentsPART I1 Leadership of Purpose: In Search of Good DividendsSteve Kempster, Ken Parry and Thomas Maak2 Four Cornerstones that Underpin the Good DividendsSteve Kempster, Thomas Maak and Ken Parry3 Responsible Leadership: Reconciling People, Purpose, and ProfitThomas Maak and Nicola M. John Wiley & Sons Inc The Little Book of Sideways Markets
Book Synopsis"It's hard to talk clearly about investing and make sense to ordinary readers at the same time. Katsenelson gives a lucid explanation of today's markets with sound advice about how to make money while avoiding the traps that the market sets for exuberant bulls and frightened bears alike. " Thomas G.Trade Review“This is a book you can understand and have fun with no matter what level of experience you have. Even advanced investors have to refresh themselves in the basics once in awhile. Read it . . “ (Financial Tides and Seeking Alpha) “This book isn’t about market timing. It’s about winning in a flat market — the sort of knowledge that can make you a lot of money. In his book, Katsenelson reminds us that investing returns come in three ways: more earnings, more dividends, or a higher price-to-earnings ratio. I’m a dividend guy, so Katsenelson had me when he declared that ‘the importance of dividends quadruples in sideways markets, where they historically represent more than 90% of total return.’ Amen, brother! There are a lot of ‘little books’ out there, but The Little Book of Sideways Markets offers excellent advice, reads easily, and will help you sidestep a potentially frustrating market.”(Motley Fool) “Offers guidance on the discipline of selecting stocks, as well as wisdom on the challenges of knowing when to sell. Does a masterful job of taking a highly technical subject and explaining it in easily understood terms. His explanation of discounted cash flow analysis to determine the right price for buying an asset is the best, and the most entertaining.” (NAPFA Advisor) “Thoroughly enjoyable . . for the thoughtful and often entertaining way in which it is delivered. . . Katsenelson takes his reader step by step into the mind of the value investor by relating, in a fictional addendum to Fiddler on the Roof, the story of Tevye’s purchase of Golde, the cow. He also describes his own big-time gambling evening (he was willing to lose a maximum of $40) and that of a half-drunken, rowdy fellow blackjack player to stress the importance of process. He then moves on to the fundamental principles of active value investing. What differentiates this book from so many others on value investing is that it describes, sometimes through the use of case studies, the thinking of a value investor. Not just his models or his metrics but his assessments. Katsenelson is an empiricist who weighs facts, looks for contraindications, and makes decisions. He makes value investing come alive. This may be a little book, but it’s packed with insights for both novices and experienced investors. And it is a delight to read.” (Seeking Alpha) Table of ContentsForeword xi Acknowledgments xxii Introduction xxiii Chapter One Fasten Your Seat Belt 1 Chapter Two A Sideways View of the World 9 Chapter Three Don’t Shoot the Messenger 23 Chapter Four Tevye Was a Rich Man 41 Chapter Five What We Can Learn from Gamblers 59 Chapter Six Brought to You by the Letter “Q” (for Quality) 65 Chapter Seven Brought to You by the Letter “G” (for Growth) 87 Chapter Eight Brought to You by the Letter “V”(for Valuation) 105 Chapter Nine Add It Up 117 Chapter Ten Nip/Tuck 133 Chapter Eleven The Born-Again Value Investor 143 Chapter Twelve Applying Darwinism to the Sales Process 161 Chapter Thirteen You Are Not As Dumb—or Smart—As You Think 175 Chapter Fourteen On a Scavenger Hunt for Stocks 181 Chapter Fifteen Farewell, Blissful Ignorance 189 Chapter Sixteen Think Different 211 Chapter Seventeen I Could Be Wrong, but I Doubt It 223

Pearson Education Limited Change Activist Make Big Things Happen Fast
Book SynopsisCarmel McConnell's background is a mixture of social activism and business. She is a campaigner and fierce optimist about creating a better world. While researching her first book Change Activist, in 2000, Carmel interviewed five headteachers in the London borough of Hackney who told her that many of their pupils arrived at school too hungry or malnourished to learn. Carmel started buying and delivering breakfast food to these schools, with remarkable results as children's concentration, behaviour, punctuality and educational attainment significantly improved. As demand for her help grew, Carmel took time out from her City technology consultancy, setting up Magic Breakfast in 2003. Today, Magic Breakfast and the National School Breakfast Programme (DfE funded to March 2021) provides healthy breakfasts to around 400,000 children in England and Scotland during term time. Carmel was awarded an MBE for her services to school fooTrade ReviewCould Carmel McConnell be our answer to Oprah? ***** This is a great self-help book. I have finished a course of study in a new area after having been a lawyer for too many years. I am now trying to find a job and have had a few setbacks recently. I had reached the stage of wondering whether I had made a big mistake to give up my salary to find something more satisfying to do. I had bought this book for my husband (he still hasn't read it) but decided to have a look at it myself. As a result I now have a revived sense of enthusiasm for job hunting plus some ideas on how to do it more effectively. More importantly I have realised that it is not "mad" to want to make changes and to challenge the status quo. I was once told by one of my bosses that I was too idealistic. This book has helped me to see that he was not idealistic enough. If more partners in law firms had read Carmel McConnell's book I might still be a lawyer! I enjoyed the bright colour of the cover, the difference in print size and type and the easily digestible chunks of wisdom. The exercises are practical-often self-help tasks are so daunting that I give up half-way through. These are manageable but still thought-provoking. I'm so enthused I'm going to look up the web links listed at the back of the book. That's a first for me. A breath of fresh air! ***** Phew! - what a lady you are Carmel McConnell! This is truly brilliant writing, and, without sounding corny, yes, a book to 'change your life' - but in such a positive and outward looking way...Table of ContentsABOUT THE AUTHOR ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS INTRODUCTION What is a change activist?
