Nova Science Publishers Inc Innovation in Systems Thinking: The Application
Book SynopsisProblem-solving is an important part of our lives. Dialectical Networking Thinking (DNT) is a soft-systems methodology aimed at complex problem-solving. The modern (dynamic) business is a demanding and complex process. It requires permanent learning, innovating, and adapting to the requirements of demanding customers. The latter must be able to face their challenges and change themselves accordingly, first of all by innovating their own values and knowledge, especially concerning holistic complex problem-solving in business. DNT enables us to do this. A key issue namely keeps surfacing: what is the correct way to tackle mastering and solving complex problems, in order for objectives and solutions to be high quality and sustained. In daily practices, unfortunately, one tends to underestimate the complexity of problems one faces and tries to solve them (wrongly and irresponsibly) one-sidedly. This approach causes new problems to emerge, perhaps even more intricate ones. This problem can be avoided by using DNT, following the steps briefed above. DNT can enjoy evolution to help solve complex problems, if all preconditions are met for its application. They include, along with knowledge and motivated teams, an innovation-seeking organization and its prevailing culture. In the best-case scenario, every OBS member would accept DNT because such a capacity provides the upper hand in modern competition. On the other hand, limitation to single disciplines, lack of co-operation on an interdisciplinary basis and in teamwork will unavoidably fail in the modern innovative economy.

Nova Science Publishers Inc Multinationals CSR Practices in Developing
Book SynopsisThis book explores the relationship between multinationals and developing countries. Some of multinational''s corporations claim to be taking steps to improve their CSR practices through the use of voluntary initiatives such as codes of conduct, environmental certification, social audits, fair trading and social investments. However, that kind of voluntary initiative may be limited in some developing countries where companies are not subjected to the same pressures and market opportunities that make many corporations responsible in developed countries. The challenge for corporate social responsibility (CSR) in developing countries is guided by a vision distilled into the UN Millennium Development Goals. Unfortunately, these global aspirations remain far from being met in many developing countries today. The book also examines the promotion of corporate environmental and social responsibility in specific developing countries. While concepts like corporate social responsibility have become more fashionable in many developing countries, they have essentially been introduced from abroad. Thus, on one hand, the lack of interest within some developing countries is not surprising considering the current context of economic, political and social crisis, which generates other priorities. On the other hand, an institutional framework supportive of CSR practices has emerged in some developing countries. In these countries, corporate policies to promote responsible social and environmental behaviours have been increasingly important among foreign-based companies.

Well-known examples of trade secrets include the formula for Coca-Cola, the recipe for Kentucky Fried Chicken, and the algorithm used by Google''s search engine. To succeed in the global marketplace, U.S. firms depend upon their trade secrets, which increasingly are becoming their most valuable intangible assets. However, U.S. companies annually suffer billions of dollars in losses due to the theft of their trade secrets by employees, corporate competitors, and even foreign governments. Stealing trade secrets has increasingly involved the use of cyberspace, advanced computer technologies, and mobile communication devices, thus making the theft relatively anonymous and difficult to detect. This book discusses the theft issues, legal protections and industry perspectives on trade secrets.

Nova Science Publishers Inc Large Partnerships: Growth Trends & IRS
Book SynopsisThe number of large partnerships has more than tripled to 10,099 from tax year 2002 to 2011. Almost two-thirds of large partnerships had more than 1,000 direct and indirect partners, had six or more tiers and/or self-reported being in the finance and insurance sector, with many being investment funds. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) audits few large partnerships. Most audits resulted in no change to the partnership''s return and the aggregate change was small. Although internal control standards call for information about effective resource use, IRS has not defined what constitutes a large partnership and does not have codes to track these audits. According to IRS auditors, the audit results may be due to challenges such as finding the sources of income within multiple tiers while meeting the administrative tasks required by the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 1982 (TEFRA) within specified time frames. This book determines what IRS knows about the number and characteristics of large partnerships; assesses IRS''s ability to audit them; and also assess IRS''s efforts to address the audit challenges.

Nova Science Publishers Inc Council Women & Corporate Performance in the
Book SynopsisThis book is about the inclusion of women in the council of companies. Specifically, it presents an investigation of whether there is a relationship between the share of economic and financial performance of women measured by the return on assets (ROA) and the Tobin Q ratio. Theoretical analysis (institutional theory) suggests that gender may have both a positive and negative (or neutral) effect on the economic and financial performance of the company. Statistical analysis supports the theoretical position of no effect, positive nor negative. The results are consistent with the explanation that institutions represent values, rules, and norms which evolve over time, and therefore the presence of women on the board can change under different circumstances and at different times. Based on the authors'' research, it could not be stated strongly that the presence of women contributes to the economic and financial performance of a company. However, no negative evidence was found either. The result of the study suggests that decisions regarding the appointment of women as board of directors should be based on other perspectives rather than solely basing it on economic and financial performance.

Nova Science Publishers Inc Law & Economics of Corporate Governance & Insider
Book SynopsisThe regulation of insider trading prohibits insiders from using inside information in securities transactions, and the central goal of the regulator is to preclude non-public information from circulating in the stock markets. The goal of legislation against insider trading is the same as that of legislation against market manipulation, making certain the integrity of EU financial markets and so boosting investor confidence in those markets. Market manipulation and insider trading are interrelated and based on circulation of information, and so cyberspace & e-logistics of information could be the key to neutralising people from taking advantage of their privilege to govern information within a company. Insider trading moves prices because outsiders decode information from the trade itself. Insider trading increases capital costs for the reason that insider trading raises the cost to market-makers in a companys securities relative to other companies, decreasing the anticipated return to uninformed shareholders. Corporate insiders are clearly informed about their own firms. The insiders outperformance derives from either their analytical skill or the handling of superior information about their companies when trading. Insiders benefit from unexpected losses on top of gains and so have a perverse incentive to trigger the company to under-perform if insider trading is permitted. Securities are vital, not only as investment vehicles, but also as devices for corporate control. A peaceful European Revolution should bring forward European nations and the USE/European Federation, which can deal with insider trading, criminal law, and other political/economical components in a harmonious way while avoiding any conflict among the various jurisdictions taking place in the present EU.

Nova Science Publishers Inc Emergency Lending by the Federal Reserve:
Book SynopsisThe deepening of the financial crisis in 2008 led the Federal Reserve (Fed) to revive an obscure provision found in Section 13(3) of the Federal Reserve Act (12 U.S.C. 344) to extend credit to nonbank financial firms for the first time since the 1930s. Section 13(3) provides the Fed with greater flexibility than its normal lending authority. Using this authority, the Fed created six broadly based facilities (of which only five were used) to provide liquidity to primary dealers (certain large investment firms) and to revive demand for commercial paper and asset-backed securities. More controversially, the Fed provided special, tailored assistance exclusively to four firms that the Fed considered too big to fail -- AIG, Bear Stearns, Citigroup, and Bank of America. This book provides a review of the history of Section 13(3), including its use in 2008. It discusses the Feds authority under Section 13(3) before and after the Dodd-Frank Act. It then discusses policy issues and legislation to amend Section 13(3), including H.R. 3189, which passed the House on November 19, 2015.

Kogan Page Ltd The Infinite Leader: Balancing the Demands of
Book SynopsisWINNER: Independent Press Awards 2021 - Leadership Bestselling and award-winning author duo Chris Lewis and Pippa Malmgren are calling it out. In The Infinite Leader, they argue that the spectacular leadership failures that we have witnessed in recent history, stretching across business, community life and politics, can be explained by a lack of balance. Having spent centuries perfecting processes and systems to maximize productivity and being indicted to the shrine of numbers, KPI's and financial forecasting, we have to admit, there are very few examples of sustainable and inspirational leadership figures out there. By over-relying on the hard stuff, we have disregarded whole dimensions of values that are desperately needed when trying to engage communities of people towards a common goal. The Infinite Leader is a roadmap to introducing balance back into organizations. You can adapt your stance to the infinite possibilities facing you as a leader, and balance the main quadrants of the rational, emotional, spiritual and physical leader, to deliver sustainable leadership with integrity. Business is still about people - people operate across paradoxes and opposing forces, in a world that confounds these influences. Leaders need to continuously juggle and neutralize these to succeed. Be what your people need you to be and learn what they don't teach you in business schools; remain analytical and numbers-focused when needed, but also bring your heart, person and integrity to leadership.Trade Review"Now more than ever the world needs leaders who can lead businesses without limits. We don't need leaders who just follow the crowd locked in groupthink. The Infinite Leader shows that type of real leadership needed on the rocky road ahead." * Edmund V King OBE, President, AA *"Business is there for the long term, not the short term. It doesn't need leadership; it needs great leadership. It also needs a balance of success and sustainability and that is what this book is all about." * Sinclair Beecham, Founder, Pret A Manger *"If you were to ask people what they think of our current political and business leaders, they would probably reply 'What leadership?' We are seeing two-dimensional leaders, not leaders with an infinite range of attitudes, behaviours and philosophies. This book addresses that deficit, and in an entertaining, innovative and 'off the wall' way. It is not just another leadership book; it is the infinitive leader's manual - don't miss it!" * Professor Sir Cary Cooper CBE, 50th Anniversary Professor of Organizational Psychology and Health, Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester *"Prescient and pragmatic in equal nature, The Infinite Leader could just become the bible for post-COVID leadership." * Alison Cork, Entrepreneur *"Chris Lewis and Pippa Malmgren always provide unique and relevant perspectives on the key leadership issues and trends of the day. This book is no exception. I highly recommend it." * Robert J Herbold, Former Chief Operating Officer, Microsoft Corporation *"Leadership is dynamic and complex. What worked in the past will not work now. This is true across every sector of society, and a failure of leadership ultimately destroys hope and a belief in the future. This wonderful new book provides a beacon to guide our path, defining the attitudes and principles needed by our leaders to build a better society. My warmest congratulations to Chris Lewis and Pippa Malmgren." * Professor Russell Foster CBE, FRS, Director of the Sleep and Circadian Neuroscience Institute, University of Oxford *"By taking us on a journey, challenging our perceptions, inspiring thought and stimulating new ideas, Chris Lewis and Pippa Malmgren practise what they preach in The Infinite Leader. " * The Rt Hon Greg Clark MP *"This book is about everything that we knew and could not articulate ourselves. And what we did not know and was not explained to us." * Milenko Prvacki, Senior Fellow, Lasalle College of Arts *"This is a very timely book. As companies, organizations and work itself are reinventing themselves, The Infinite Leader provides original and thought-provoking insight into how leaders can harness the collective intelligence of their teams to successfully navigate uncertainty as well as new and ever-changing circumstances. Chris Lewis and Pippa Malmgren are brilliant in their guidance to manage the imbalances, foster deeper inclusion and ensure greater integrity." * Helen Anderson, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) *"Capital is the most powerful force for even on the planet. As a fellow mum and entrepreneur, I stay sane by reminding myself that I am an excellent role model for my daughters. Be brave, be bold, and believe you can. This book will help you pull the rip cord and take your first steps -- it won't be easy but where there is a will there is a way" --Nicole Soames, CEO, Diadem Performance and author of The Negotiation Book "A practical guide, written with so much heart! Christine draws brilliantly on her experiences as a mom and entrepreneur to give readers the tools to integrate their career and family lives." --Sanyin Siang, Executive Director of the Fuqua/Coach K Center, Duke University and author of The Launch Book "The book might as well be written to men who want a balance between running their own business and their family. It's good because it addresses the challenge of being a passionate person who wants to create their own business and keep a close relationship with their children as well. It is not unusual that women understate their interest in their children to make sure they are taken seriously as business women. In this book, they've got a voice. Thank you for that. All in all, a fine and inspiring book that I would recommend." --Ulla Bechsgaard, Jyllands-Posten (Danish Newspaper)

HarperCollins Publishers Bear Markets and Beyond: A bestiary of business
Book Synopsis *WINNER* ‘SHORT BUSINESS BOOK OF THE YEAR’ – THE BUSINESS BOOK AWARDS 2021 Unicorns, narwhals, yaks, cows and civets – what have all these creatures got to do with your hard-earned cash? Well, far more than you would think at first glance. They are all beasts that appear in the global economic ecosystem. They pop up as warnings, messages, signals and useful analogies in order to help us navigate what can sometimes be a confusing, closed-off world. In this book, BBC journalists Dhruti Shah and Dominic Bailey guide you through the confusing world of business jargon with a bold, graphic bestiary. As well as more familiar terms such as piggy bank, loan sharks and rat race, there are alligator spreads – which occur when an investor will never be able to make a profit on their transactions, or a lobster trap, which is a type of strategy a company will deploy in order to prevent a hostile takeover. There is even the memorable honorific of 'vampire squid' given to Goldman Sachs.
