Book SynopsisThe purpose of this book is to provide a rigorous yet accessible introduction to the modern financial theory of security markets. The main subjects are derivatives and portfolio management. The book is intended to be used as a text by advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students. It is also likely to be useful to practicing financial engineers, portfolio manager, and actuaries who wish to acquire a fundamental understanding of financial theory. The book makes heavy use of mathematics, but not at an advanced level. Various mathematical concepts are developed as needed, and computational examples are emphasized.Trade Review"I believe that this is an excellent text for undergraduate or MBA classes on Mathematical Finance. The bulk of the book describes a model with finitely many, discrete trading dates, and a finite sample space, thus it avoids the technical difficulties associated with continuous time models. The major strength of this book is its careful balance of mathematical rigor and intuition." Peter Lakner, New York UniversityTable of ContentsPart I: Single Period Securities Markets:. • Supernumerary Intelligence: A New Approach to

Information Age Publishing Supernumerary Intelligence: A New Approach to

Book SynopsisMuch of our life is consumed looking for quantitative relationships. For example, How much more sleep do I need at night to make me feel better? How many calories do I need to eliminate to lose weight? How much larger does my budget on the job need to be for me to be more effective? All these quantitative questions are preceded, and depend on, qualitative questions. For example, before I decide how much extra sleep I need at night, I need to determine if extra sleep will actually make me feel better. In another example, I need to determine if a larger budget will make me more effective on the job, before I think about how much more money I will need. What elements influence job performance, and how do they interact? We spend much of our life trying to find answers to such quantitative and qualitative questions. We are, then, in search of a kind of intelligence that includes numbers but is also above and beyond them. We call it “supernumerary” intelligence (SI).To aid our quest for SI, we use Quantitative CyberQuest (QCQ) and the Public Administration Genome Project (PAGP) as useful tools. QCQ is a philosophy as well as an analytic tool that helps in exploring the supernumerary. QCQ is particularly wellsuited for sorting out variables as well as their interrelations. It involves a combination of statistics, systems analysis, research methodology, qualitative research, and artificial intelligence. QCQ also provides a relatively easy to understand but still powerful set of tools and guidancemechanisms to pilot (the “Cyber” part) users in their “Quest” for supernumerary relationships.

  • Intelligent Management in the Knowledge Economy

Edward Elgar Publishing Ltd Intelligent Management in the Knowledge Economy

Book SynopsisThe knowledge economy is a notion that has been used, since the end of the last decade, to describe a new economic order perceived by scholars and practitioners. The authors argue that this order, triggered by new information and communication technologies, has resulted in a different set of challenges for effective management of the contemporary firm. Knowledge will play an important role in managing these challenges, with the onus being on new hardware and software as much as how businesses can be organised with regard to relationships with customers and suppliers. This book shows how 'intelligent management will be key to how internal operations can be organised in order to take advantage of opportunities brought about by new technologies. This change in management is discussed throughout the book from a wide array of perspectives ranging from contextual and philosophical aspects, through tools and methods to case studies concerning the organization of business, its management and application in the knowledge economy.Intelligent Management in the Knowledge Economy will be of great interest to academics and researchers of management - knowledge management in particular - ICT and organisational studies. Business practitioners will also find much to engage them within this book.Trade Review'This anthology gives important and interesting perspectives on the management of information systems in different organisational contexts. . . the papers are important contributions to the research area's future development.' -- From the preface by Christian Tangkjaer, Scandinavian Academy of Management StudiesTable of ContentsContents: Preface by Christian Tangkjær Intelligent Management and Knowledge: An Introduction Part I: Context and Philosophy 1. Edward Elgar Publishing Ltd Marketing Knowledge Management: Managing

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisGabriele Troilo explores the entire marketing knowledge management process from a unique perspective. He emphasises the fact that in today's markets, competitive advantage is achieved by companies which are knowledge-based and market oriented. The role of marketing in a knowledge-based company is also underlined: its purpose is to generate marketing knowledge, share it with other departments, and promote its use. As a consequence, the author argues, the marketing department is no longer simply responsible for functional activities, but rather must become a diffuser of knowledge dispersed within the organization. Marketing Knowledge Management describes the individual phases of the process in detail, exploring marketing knowledge emersion, marketing knowledge generation and marketing knowledge sharing and use. The tools required to effectively implement any single phase are also discussed. Emphasising that marketing should broaden its scope to encompass effective marketing knowledge management, this book will be invaluable to: students, researchers and academics with an interest in knowledge management and all areas of marketing (including organizational aspects, marketing in an information age and marketing information systems). Practising marketeers will also find that this book provides essential reading material.Table of ContentsContents: Introduction 1. Market Orientation and Organizational Knowledge 2. • Intellectual Capital Revisited: Paradoxes in the

Edward Elgar Publishing Ltd Intellectual Capital Revisited: Paradoxes in the

    3 in stock

Book SynopsisThis book brings together some of the founders of the IC movement in Europe to critically review the virtues and shortcomings of intellectual capital as a managerial concept. More questions on the future of IC study are perhaps raised than answered as the contributors attempt to open new avenues of research. The contributors acknowledge that the concept of managing intellectual capital is paradoxical in many respects. First and foremost, the boundaries of the knowledge intensive organization are fading. Organizations are open, networked and global, and intellectual capital mobile and elusive - so how can something with no boundaries be managed? Furthermore, is it possible that in a knowledge-intensive society, firms that do not focus on their intellectual capital are successful? That is, are there any pre-requisites for intellectual capital to be relevant? The book explores such paradoxes in the knowledge intensive organization, critically discusses the limitations of intellectual capital and revises the agenda for intellectual capital studies in the future. Drawing on empirical evidence including two EU funded projects involving researchers, practitioners and policy makers from international associations such as the OECD and the EU, this book will prove a thought provoking read for those with an interest in various aspects of management such as: knowledge management, management control, management accounting, strategic management and management of innovation.Trade Review'This book extends the analysis of intellectual capital and underlines the idea that its study is multidisciplinary. Its publication is timely as it brings together a collection of the key thought leaders in the area who provide new perspectives into this important topic. This book is essential reading by those engaged in understanding the knowledge economy and intellectual capital in organisational settings.' -- James Guthrie, The University of Sydney, AustraliaTable of ContentsContents: Preface 1. Book SynopsisThis open access book provides information how to choose and collect the appropriate metrics for a software project in an organization. There are several kinds of metrics, based on the analysis of source code and developed for different programming paradigms such as structured programming and object-oriented programming (OOP). This way, the book follows three main objectives: (i) to identify existing and easily-collectible measures, if possible in the early phases of software development, for predicting and modeling both the traditional attributes of software systems and attributes specifically related to their efficient use of resources, and to create new metrics for such purposes; (ii) to describe ways to collect these measures during the entire lifecycle of a system, using minimally-invasive monitoring of design-time processes, and consolidate them into conceptual frameworks able to support model building by using a variety of approaches, including statistics, data mining and computational intelligence; and (iii) to present models and tools to support design time evolution of systems based on design-time measures and to empirically validate them. The book provides researchers and advanced professionals with methods for understanding the full implications of alternative choices and their relative attractiveness in terms of enhancing system resilience. It also explores the simultaneous use of multiple models that reflect different system interpretations or stakeholder perspectives.Table of Contents- 1. Concept and Principles of Measurement. - 2.
