DruckVerlag Kettler Stefan Panhans / Andrea Winkler: The Pow(d)er of
Book SynopsisThe title of the catalogue of works by the artist duo Stefan Panhans (Germany) and Andrea Winkler (Switzerland) is a nod to the rhetoric used by evangelical megachurches in the United States that preach a market-oriented, neoliberal ideology of individual self-optimisation under the guise of Christian pastoral care. The artists’ works touch on electric SUVs, communication with forms of artificial intelligence, racism in everyday life, celebrity cults, stereotypes, computer games, the “uncanny valley,” and other post-digital feedback loops between humans and virtual worlds, but also on the precarious condition of cultural sector workers. Panhans and Winkler are masters at using a broad spectrum of artistic genres and media, such as novels, texts, performances, installations, miniseries, musicals, sculptures, objects, films, videos, and dance. Their video installations can be subsumed under what is known as “expanded cinema”: the displayed objects, which also appear in the videos, are presented in a way that allows the films to expand into the surrounding space, drawing viewers into the artwork. Text in English and German.

Lannoo Publishers Homo Digitalis: How digitalisation is making us
Book Synopsis‘All new technology is accompanied with great expectations on the one hand and great fear on the other. Thierry Geerts reduces the digital revolution to its true proportions and shows that we control the impact of technology ourselves: technology becomes what we make of it. Few are better placed than the author to clearly define the potential, the tasks, and the responsibility that awaits each and every one of us.’ – Caroline Pauwels, rector of the VUB ‘After Digitalis drew up the contours of the new digital world, Homo digitalis now describes how we can appropriate it so that digitalisation will benefit humanity. But instead of trying to convince at all costs, Thierry Geerts puts things in perspective. With great expertise, he guides us through numerous groundbreaking initiatives that start-ups and companies in Europe have often developed.‘– Alain Gerlache, journalist ‘This book couldn't have come out at a better time. Change can be scary for many, but above all, it brings many opportunities. Thierry Geerts fantastically explains how Digitalis can be an inclusive place where social mobility and equality are self-evident. Now it’s up to our entrepreneurs, policymakers, and each of us as individuals to gear up and resolutely opt for the digital future.’ – Yasmien Naciri, entrepreneur and marketer ‘Think about the reasons for technology. That is the challenge that Thierry Geerts takes on with gusto and enthusiasm in this fascinating book.’ – Laurent Hublet, co-founder and CEO of BeCentral, the largest digitalis campus in Europe In Homo digitalis, Thierry Geerts, CEO of Google Belgium and Luxembourg, looks at the dangers and opportunities of the digital revolution. Without taboos and with an eye to the future, he offers thoughtful examples of how digitalisation affects us as people and as a society. His conclusion is clear: technology is neutral, and it’s up to people to use it consciously and confidently. If we do that, digitalisation will make us happier, with more time for creativity, personal development, healthcare, and the things that really matter. Then we’ll become more human and we homo sapiens will turn into homo digitalis.

Amsterdam University Press Memory in Motion: Archives, Technology, and the
Book SynopsisHow do new media affect the question of social memory? Social memory is usually described as enacted through ritual, language, art, architecture, and institutions ? phenomena whose persistence over time and capacity for a shared storage of the past was set in contrast to fleeting individual memory. But the question of how social memory should be understood in an age of digital computing, instant updating, and interconnection in real time, is very much up in the air. The essays in this collection discuss the new technologies of memory from a variety of perspectives that explicitly investigate their impact on the very concept of the social. ISEAS Digital Indonesia: Connectivity and Divergence
Book SynopsisThis book places Indonesia at the forefront of the global debate about the impact of ""disruptive"" digital technologies. Digital technology is fast becoming the core of life, work, culture and identity. Yet, while the number of Indonesians using the internet has followed the upward global trend, some groups — the poor, the elderly, women, the less well-educated, people living in remote communities — are disadvantaged. This interdisciplinary collection of essays by leading researchers and scholars, as well as e-governance and e-commerce insiders, examines the impact of digitalisation on the media industry, governance, commerce, informal sector employment, education, cybercrime, terrorism, religion, artistic and cultural expression, and much more. It presents groundbreaking analysis of the impact of digitalisation in one of the worlds most diverse, geographically vast nations. In weighing arguments about the opportunities and challenges presented by digitalisation, it puts the very idea of a technological revolution into critical perspective.

Book SynopsisText in Arabic. For many children and teens, daily Internet use is the norm -- but where should we draw the line when it comes to digital media usage? This handy book lays out the essential information needed to understand and prevent excessive Internet use that negatively impacts behaviour, education, family life, and even physical health. Martin L. Kutscher, MD, analyses neurological, psychological and educational research and draws on his own experience to show when Internet use stops being a good thing and starts to become excessive. He shows how to spot digital addictions, and offers whole family approaches for limiting the harmful effects of too much screen time, such as helping kids to learn to control their own Internet use. He tackles diverse questions ranging from the effects of laptops in the classroom and reading on a digital screen, to whether violent videogames lead to aggression. The author also explains how ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can make you more susceptible to Internet addiction, suggesting practical strategies to suit these specific needs. Discussing both the good and bad aspects of the internet, this book tells you everything you need to know to help children and young people use the Internet in a healthy, balanced way.
