SPIE Press Modern Optics Drawings: The ISO 10110 Companion

    Out of stock

Book SynopsisThe international standard for optics drawing notations, ISO 10110, uses a set of coded notations to indicate optical tolerances and requirements to mitigate any ambiguity in an optics drawing. This set of notations can be very confusing for the uninitiated, but once understood, it simplifies communication between designer and manufacturer. This book provides a foundation for understanding the fundamentals of ISO 10110. It is meant as a guide for users to familiarize themselves with the notation and symbology, leading to a better understanding of the ISO 10110 drawing notation system. Its purpose is to explain not only the ISO 10110 drawing format but also the various other standards that enable a greater understanding and implementation of ISO 10110. Each chapter discusses different subjects of optical properties and tolerances, showing the implementation of ISO 10110 through various examples, each highlighting a separate subject or tolerance on an optical component drawing. A detailed example of an optical system is also provided.Table of Contents Drawing Notation and Default Tolerances Optical Materials Surface Figure and Form Surface Texture: Roughness and Wavines Surface Imperfection Tolerances Laser Damage Surface Treatment and Coating Centering and Tilt Tolerances Nonspherical Surfaces System Evaluation Environmental Testing Standards in Practice

  • Fractional Dynamics on Networks and Lattices

ISTE Ltd and John Wiley & Sons Inc Fractional Dynamics on Networks and Lattices

    15 in stock

Book SynopsisThis book analyzes stochastic processes on networks and regular structures such as lattices by employing the Markovian random walk approach. Part 1 is devoted to the study of local and non-local random walks. It shows how non-local random walk strategies can be defined by functions of the Laplacian matrix that maintain the stochasticity of the transition probabilities. A major result is that only two types of functions are admissible: type (i) functions generate asymptotically local walks with the emergence of Brownian motion, whereas type (ii) functions generate asymptotically scale-free non-local “fractional” walks with the emergence of Lévy flights. In Part 2, fractional dynamics and Lévy flight behavior are analyzed thoroughly, and a generalization of Pólya's classical recurrence theorem is developed for fractional walks. The authors analyze primary fractional walk characteristics such as the mean occupation time, the mean first passage time, the fractal scaling of the set of distinct nodes visited, etc. The results show the improved search capacities of fractional dynamics on networks.Table of ContentsPreface ix Part 1 Dynamics on General Networks 1 Chapter 1 Characterization of Networks: the Laplacian Matrix and its Functions 3 1.1. Book SynopsisDigital Architecture employs computer modelling, programing, simulation, and imaging to create both virtual forms and physical structures, and it is becoming increasingly popular in today's architecture landscape the world over. This book presents the fast-shaping and actively progressing digital architecture scene in China as it discusses the current status and trends in its development, design, and construction, in the different dimensions of digital architecture. It includes four parts: Theoretical Explorations; Building Practice; Research Projects; and a chronology of digital architecture in China. The first part summarises the understanding and positioning of digital architecture in China from the perspectives of construction, design techniques, and design concepts. The second and third parts provide readers with a wealth of information and resource through many analytical diagrams, technical drawings, and construction and completion images. This book is not only an academic review, but also a lively account of digital architecture in China. This read will feel like a visit to a vivid Chinese digital architecture exhibition, and will be a welcome addition to any architecture reference collection.

Astragal Press Illustrated Catalogue of Drawing Instruments:

    Out of stock

Book SynopsisOriginally developed in 1993 for an auction of an Architect's private collection of over 1,500 drawing instruments and calculators; this extensive book is one of a few comprehensive references available for comparative study of these instruments. The original collection was assembled over a twelve year period from sources in the US and Europe. Each instrument is listed in a scientific format for comparative evaluation and identification. An abbreviations table supports this approach. Profusely illustrated with 113 color photos and 61 highly organized text pages. The Subject Index has over 400 individualreferences dissecting this impressive collective of instruments from the 18th C. thru the mid 20th century. Instruments are categorized by Maker, Country, Period of Manufacture and function. Different instrument makers and suppliers are referenced to over 300 individual items. The four page Table of Contents provides a logical and extremely useful subjective summary of the catalog contents so that whatever the instrument or drawing tool, its location can be easily found. The photographs were taken with the idea of showing these important instruments in a comparative array. Researchers and collectors will find this a valuable resource. These instruments represent a most prolific period of time in our history of invention and advancements in technology. Computers are the new tools which demand a new pace of design and documentation.... They leave behind the centuries of drawing instruments that were the connection from the hand to the paper.

Book SynopsisCondensed thoughts transformed to matter with sequence of drawings. With exceptions of the author's other books, no similar published case studies exist. Uniquely relevant in both the education and practice architecture. This book aims to unify knowing and feeling with drawing. Since this process is influenced by the memory of our body, the outcome could be unpredictable, mysterious and timeless. If the drawn investigation questions the fundamentals of knowledge, existence and truth, then the resulting architecture might embody a new branch of philosophy. It will affect simultaneously our cerebral, tactile, and spatial perceptions and appear as a circumstantial singularity.

    Oro Editions Animating Guarini

    Out of stock

Book SynopsisThe evolution of orthographic projection from a technique to a convention has provided architecture with orthographic drawing - a form of imaging continually used to present, defend, and build architecture. Orthographic projection's geometric principles and complex history are no longer part of an architect's education, and yet its underlying Euclidean geometry informs the materialisation of architecture, regardless of complexity. This essay explores the instrumental history of orthographic projection to reacquire the generative techniques of drawing that do not deal with visualisation. Animating Guarini is thus a historical account and a reimagining of orthographic projection as a drawing technique that precedes convention.
