Book SynopsisThe primary aim of libraries is to ensure equal accessibility to information for all members of society. Librarians play a crucial role in facilitating the use of new technologies by researchers and prioritizing their time in serving customers. The integration of innovative technologies has revolutionized the way library services are delivered. In recent times, libraries are highly regarded for their physical spaces and the multiple opportunities they provide for the growth and development of the community, including support for education, access to state-of-the-art technologies, assistance for local enterprises, and much more. The International Encyclopedia of Library and Information Science is an invaluable resource for researchers, practitioners, and students of library and information science. It provides a broad overview of the field, with in-depth coverage of important topics. Moreover, it covers the latest developments and research in the field, which ensures that it remains relevant for years to come.

Springer International Publishing AG Proximity and Epidata: Attributes and Meaning
Book SynopsisThis book provides a new model to explore discoverability and enhance the meaning of information. The authors have coined the term epidata, which includes items and circumstances that impact the expression of the data in a document, but are not part of the ordinary process of retrieval systems. Epidata affords pathways and points to details that cast light on proximities that might otherwise go unknown. In addition, epidata are clues to mis-and dis-information discernment. There are many ways to find needed information; however, finding the most useable information is not an easy task. The book explores the uses of proximity and the concept of epidata that increases the probability of finding functional information. The authors sketch a constellation of proximities, present examples of attempts to accomplish proximity, and provoke a discussion of the role of proximity in the field. In addition, the authors suggest that proximity is a thread between retrieval constructs based on known topics, predictable relations, and types of information seeking that lie outside constructs such as browsing, stumbling, encountering, detective work, art making, and translation.Table of ContentsProximity and Clues.- More than Meets the Eye.- Epidata, Clues, Threads, and Webs.- Provocations and Invitations.

The Chinese University Press Books in Numbers
Book SynopsisThis collection of papers is a result of an academic conference entitled ""Books in Numbers"" held in celebration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Harvard-Yenching Library. The aim of this conference was to celebrate the book culture of East Asia by comparing and contrasting the development of manuscript and print culture in each of the separate cultural areas of the region: China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam and Central Asia. The papers in this volume do not in any way attempt to offer a ""complete"" picture of the history of writing and the book in East Asia, but rather they hope to make a modest contribution by highlighting the differential developments in each of the cultural regions, as they were influenced by political, economic, social, and cultural factors.

Taylor & Francis Ltd Murals and Tourism Heritage Politics and Identity
Book SynopsisAround the world, tourists are drawn to visit murals painted on walls. Whether heritage asset, legacy leftover, or contested art space, the mural is more than a simple tourist attraction or accidental aspect of tourism material culture. They express something about the politics, heritage and identity of the locations being visited, whether a medieval fresco in an Italian church, or modern political art found in Belfast or Tehran. This interdisciplinary and highly international book explores tourism around murals that are either evolving or have transitioned as instruments of politics, heritage and identity. It explores the diverse messaging of these murals: their production, interpretation, marketing and in some cases destruction. It argues that the mural is more than a simple tourist attraction or accidental aspect of tourism material culture. To clarify and elaborate this connection, this volume provides a rigorous account of the engagement of archives and recordsand their keepersin struggles for social justice.
