Hounds Who Heal is the charming new book by Chris Kent who founded the K9 Project, an organisation that helps disadvantaged and troubled youngsters. Chris started her career working as a probation officer. During this time she also found the time to re-home an assortment of rescue dogs with the help of her husband Kevin. The K9 Project was created after Chris cared for Miles aged 15 who had spent his life in and out of the care system. Miles was certainly a challenge, displaying aggressive behaviour and generally throwing his weight around. However, Miles was shocked when he saw Ruby, a Staffie-cross, bully several other dogs owned by Chris. Watching this act of over-excited dog play helped Miles understand the effects of bullying and he resolved to change his own behaviour. And so the K9 Project was born. Throughout this book we discover just how many young lives have been enriched by the healing power of dogs. The book also includes some lovely photos of both the dos and youngster who have benefited from the amazing work of Chris and the K9 Project. The canine star of the project, Cassie, has her own chapter, and Chris' love and admiration for each of the dogs stones through. They each have their own unique and sometimes sad stories – as do the people who have found their lives transformed thanks to the work of Chris and her amazing canine therapists! Crown House Publishing The Little Book of Big Stuff about the Brain: The
Book SynopsisA light-hearted look at the brain aimed at a lay audience, it particularly focuses on the neurobiology of emotional intelligence and in many ways is the neurobiological explanation of why emotional intelligence is so important to health, wealth and happiness. From birth to death our brains are learning. In this book Andrew explains the actual events that occurin the learning brain. Understanding the nuts and bolts of learning can only help you learn yourself - but also aid others to learn from you. The Little Book of Big Stuff About the Brain is about understanding why emotional health is so important. It is a book about structure and function - and the immensely reassuring fact that there is nothing occult or sinister or hidden about our emotional selves - there is just a whole pile of circuitry that can be adjusted and changed and remodelled. Emotional damage is repairable, painful memories can be unlearned, and debilitating conditions such as post traumatic stress disorder can be placed firmly in the past. There is nothing about ourselves that we can't fundamentally change if we are prepared to do the work required. This means that no matter how deep the damage runs, there is still hope that it can (eventually) be unlearned. The most important message in this book - emotions and our emotional brains - underpin most of what we are and how we express ourselves from how we brush our hair to how we solve complex social and intellectual questions.

Crown House Publishing Mindworks: An Introduction to NLP
Book SynopsisUsing the amazingly effective tools of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Mindworks shows you how to unlock the resources, abilities and creativity that you already have in order to accomplish whatever you want to do and take control of your life. Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), a group of psychological techniques developed in the early 1970s, has been a huge influence on today's motivational writers. As its name suggests, NLP is based on the idea that the human mind is a sort of computer; our verbal and body languages are the programming that allows us to change our thoughts and to influence other people. Anne Linden, The First Lady of NLP, was a witness and participant in the creation of NLP. She was a member of the very first certification training group, the founders of NLP John Grinder and Richard Bandler offered. Previously available in hardback (ISBN 0836221680), Mindworks shows you how to change your mind, reprogram your thoughts, gain control of your fears and fulfil your desires and potential and is still one of the best introductions to NLP available.

Crown House Publishing The Really Good Fun Cartoon Book of NLP: A simple
Book SynopsisNLP pronounced en el pea. Let's just get the name thing out of the way NLP stands for neuro linguistic programming - yes, I know it's weird and yes, I know it's funny (peculiar, not ha ha) - but, that's the name. How come? NEURO Concerns the brain and the things that go on in your mind. Also the rest of the neurological system, including the five senses. LINGUISTIC This relates to language, both spoken and non-spoken (sometimes called body language). PROGRAMMINGThe concepts and ideas of NLP can be of great benefit to people in all areas of their lives; be it at work, with family and friends or in other activities. The problem has been how to get this across and explain those ideas and show how they can be easily learnt and applied. Traditionally the world of NLP training and literature has been full of technical sounding expressions, just think of the name - neuro linguistic programming. It takes a lot of persistence and effort to get through all this to access the real benefits that NLP can bring to people. The Really Good Fun Cartoon Book of NLP seeks to cut through all this by using simple (non jargon) language and amusing illustrations to get across the principles of NLP and how people can think about using them in their everyday lives. Knowing when and how to dip into the NLP life skills toolbox is really useful as is the idea that it's all just a learning experience. This book will help you get even more from life - to become an even more interesting and interested person, but only if that's what you want.

Crown House Publishing The Origins Of Neuro Linguistic Programming
Book SynopsisEdited by John Grinder and Frank Pucelik, the book's contributors include: Robert Dilts, Stephen Gilligan, Judith Delozier, Byron Lewis, Terry McClendon (author of the first history of NLP, The Wild Days). The Origins of Neuro Linguistic Programming brings together the recollections and thoughts of some of the main protagonists from the very early days of NLP. In 1971 Richard Bandler and Frank Pucelik were students at Kresege College at the University of California Santa Cruz. They had a strong mutual interest in Gestalt Therapy, Frank because of his traumatic time in Vietnam and because he had been working with some disaffected and drug-addicted kids, and Richard because he had been working with Science and Behavior Books on transcribing and editing Fritz Perls' seminal work, The Gestalt Approach and Eyewitness to Therapy. They started a local gestalt group and ran 2-3 sessions a week collaborating and experimenting with the language of therapy. They started achieving some brilliant results but were having problems transferring their skills to others and so Richard invited one of their college professors, John Grinder, to observe what they were doing in order that he would, hopefully, be able to de-construct what they were doing that was so effective. John was a professor of Linguistics and was instantly impressed with the work that they were doing. He was able to add more structure and in due course the three of them formalised what is now known as the Meta Model. NLP was born. John and Frank and each of the other contributors give their own personal account of this period of collaboration when something magical was happening in northern California. Of particular interest is the role Gregory Bateson played, particularly in bringing John and Richard together with Milton H Erickson. An extremely insightful and riveting read for anyone interested in NLP.

Book SynopsisIn his seminal book Life After Life, Dr Raymond Moody introduced the near-death experience (NDE) to the world, sharing the true stories of those who have returned from the brink of death. In this stunning sequel, Dr Moody returns to the area in which he made his name and provides compelling new evidence that NDEs are not the mere biological products of brains in the process of shutting down. Here, he shares the eyewitness accounts of those who have shared the experiences of the dying: the 'empathic death experiences' that occur when those gathered at the bedsides of the dying have their own visions of the afterlife. Brimming with case studies and drawing upon a lifetime's research as well as recent findings, this important book will change the way we think about life and death. As the baby-boomer generation begins to lose those they love, and international scientific research continues in this area, Dr Raymond Moody's book could not be more timely.

They embark on a 5,000-mile journey to discover how families can stay together when beliefs are pulling them apart. When his mother, Barbara, turns seventy, Jedidiah Jenkins is reminded of a sobering truth: Our parents won’t live forever. For years, he and Barbara have talked about taking a trip together, just the two of them. They disagree about politics, about God, about the project of society – disagreements that hurt. But they love thrift stores, they love eating at diners, they love true crime, and they love each other. Jedidiah wants to step into Barbara’s world and get to know her in a way that occasional visits haven’t allowed. They land on an idea: To retrace the thousands of miles Barbara trekked with Jedidiah’s father, travel writer Peter Jenkins, as part of the Walk Across America book trilogy that became a sensation in the 1970s. Beginning in New Orleans, they set out for the Oregon coast, listening to podcasts about outlaws and cult leaders – the only media they can agree on – while reliving the journey that changed Barbara’s life. Jedidiah discovers who Barbara was as a thirty-year old writer walking across America and who she is now, as a parent who loves her son yet holds on to a version of faith that sees his sexuality as a sin.Along the way, he peels back the layers of questions millions are asking today: How do we stay in relationships when it hurts? When do we stand up for ourselves, and when do we let it go?Tender, smart, and profound, Mother, Nature is a story of a remarkable mother-son bond and a moving meditation on the complexities of love.Trade Review'Tender, funny, and courageous, exquisitely written and completely compelling. Ebury Publishing No Cure for Being Human: (and Other Truths I Need
Book Synopsis***A SUNDAY TIMES AND INDEPENDENT BOOK OF THE YEAR AND INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER***The bestselling author of Everything Happens for a Reason (And Other Lies I've Loved) asks, how do you move forward with a life you didn't choose?Hailed by Glennon Doyle as 'the Christian Joan Didion', Kate Bowler used to accept the modern idea that life is an endless horizon of possibilities, a series of choices which if made correctly, would lead us to a place just out of our reach. A beach body by summer. A trip to Disneyland around the corner. A promotion on the horizon. But then at thirty-five she was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer, and now she has to ask one of the most fundamental questions of all: How do we create meaning in our lives when the life we hoped for is put on hold indefinitely? In No Cure for Being Human, Kate searches for a way forward as she mines the wisdom (and absurdity) of our modern 'best life now' advice industry, which offers us exhausting positivity, trying to convince us that we can out-eat, out-learn and out-perform our humanness. With dry wit and unflinching honesty she grapples with her cancer diagnosis, her ambition and her faith and searches for some kind of peace with her limitations in a culture that says that anything is possible.Frank and funny, dark and wise, Kate's irreverent, hard-won observations in No Cure For Being Human chart a bold path towards learning new ways to live.Trade ReviewA clear-eyed, beautifully written account of coming to terms with that fact that "so often the experiences that define us are the ones we didn't pick" * The Sunday Times *'Dry, witty and compassionate; a balm for the prickly soul' * The Independent *A breathtaking, utterly beautiful memoir about what it means to be human. No Cure for Being Human reminds us of all the horrors and beauty of this precious life. Kate Bowler is an incredible writer with something important to tell us.
