Book SynopsisWhat does it mean to be human-centric? The Convergence is here. Each day the human race becomes more connected and interdependent. There is no longer a choice in the matter. There is no turning back. All aspects of human life are rapidly converging at an intersection of people, business, and environment. With potential for either a historic integration or catastrophic collision, leaders have two clear choices: remain committed to profits above all else; or shift to a human-centric approach that embraces this convergence. Author Deborah Westphal, a leader in future-focused strategy, leverages her experiences working with some of the world’s most innovative business leaders, to show how the interests of people (as human beings, not customers), overlap with those of companies in ways never before seen. Convergence charts the path forward for those leaders―particularly in business―who seek to shift to a human-centric mental model. This approach addresses realities from our converging world not necessarily related to a company’s business operations, often integrating a tangible response with a change in the company’s core values. Simply put, to be human-centric prioritizes the success of people and redefines success for a company. “Westphal’s Convergence is a call to action to create the future of humanity rather than stand by. Her words of wisdom and lessons shared cannot be more timely than in this very moment when humanity is in crisis. In the midst of COVID-19, environmental disaster, and ever accelerating technological change, Convergence makes the case for authentic leadership and challenges us to rethink our primary purposes of doing business: to serve humanity.” — Diana Rau, Chief Experience Officer & Cofounder, twine.nyc Forbes 30 Under 30Trade Review“Deborah Westphal shines a new light on how vital human connections are to the convergence of society’s tectonic shifts. This book brings a fresh perspective to understanding the impact trust serves as the bedrock to our globally infused human-centric endeavor. A must-read for serious leaders seeking to build sustainable business roadmaps to the future.”—Dr. Marsha Ershaghi Hames, Partner, Tapestry Network

Book SynopsisA Global Guidebook for Activism in the Age of Climate Chaos and Social InjusticeIn 1994, Patagonia invited representatives from 75 grassroots nonprofit organizations to gather and learn from active experts how to be more effective at what they do. Through this ongoing conference as well as years of funding these organizations, Patagonia has helped thousands of activists make the changes they envision for the world. In 2016, Patagonia publishedTools for Grassroots Activists,a compilation of presentations from the Tools conferences, accompanied by case studies and inspiring essays from environmental leaders. The world since then has changed in profound ways, and this new edition reflects the world we now occupy.Completely revisedTools to Save Our Home Planet: A Changemaker’s Guidebook, captures the wisdom and best advice from activists in the field, creating a resource for any organization hoping to hone core skills. The lessons and examples it shares are as current, diverse, and global as the changemakers working around the world. At a high level, the book’s structure echos an activist’s journey. It begins with self-reflection, essays prompting readers to identify their purpose and clarify their cause. The focus shifts to the inner workings of an organization or campaign—how to create a communications strategy;organize people, and fundraise—before taking an outward look at creating momentum through mobilizing and events, using political tools, collaborating with other people and organizations, and taking legal action. The book culminates with a chapter all about movements: How combining purpose, effective organizations, and momentum can create a tidal wave that can change the world.A go-to resource for driving change, offering anyone who is passionate about environmental and social justice a timely and relevant resource to support their mission-aligned work, this book is intended for both those who are new to taking action and seasoned activists and community organizers who want to learn how others are finding success. The hope is that, like its predecessor, it will become dog-eared and scribbled in -- a reassuring and resourceful companion to the environmental and environmental justice movements.

Business Expert Press Customer Value Starvation Can Kill: Prevention

    2 in stock

Book SynopsisValue is a most misunderstood and misused word. As it becomes fashionable to create value, more companies are rushing towards the creating value mantra. In so doing, they forget value starvation and value destruction. This book is about value starvation. Value starvation is what happens when you deny a customer very basic needs in doing business with you (and often this is done unwittingly or because companies are too busy “creating Value”). Value starvation occurs when a company posts an old address that is no longer valid, or fails to update a product spec, or does not allow you access to the right person for your solution. An example is an airline changing a flight timing and failing to inform you, or sending your bags to the wrong destination, or a hotelier denying you a hotel room that has been prepaid. Value destruction happens when, knowingly or unknowingly, companies destroy value. This book shows you how to recognize value starvation, how to avoid it and how to prevent it. This will make you and your companies more effective, more customer-centric, and more successful.

Business Expert Press The Power of Belonging: How to Develop Safety,

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisThe aim of book and my research study is to explore and understand how belonging is perceived in organisations and in life. As a British born, Asian now living in Switzerland, I am mindful of how my own understanding of belonging derives from a combination of my South- East Asian culture as well my British and Swiss influences. My curiosity about belonging was instigated within the perspective of a personal context; being a child of Punjabi immigrants who moved to the UK in 1955 and then my move to Geneva in 1992. Subsequently, my professional work in several global organisations as a Diversity and Inclusion trainer and advisor strengthened my interest, that the longing for belonging element exists in organisations too. It was during my Diversity and Inclusion workshops that I witnessed a lack of examination and consideration of how important the role of belonging is in organisations. These were my informal focus groups and consequently contributed to my choice of questions in the interviews. I wanted to hear the stories what do these people want to tell us. And how does that in turn, impact organizational culture, collective behaviour and can we transform the findings into practical organizational policies and processes.

Book SynopsisDesign Learning Experiences, Not EventsLearning Experience Design Essentials explores how new instructional designers and those looking to build their skills and align their function to the business can blend content and context to elevate learning experiences. Expert Cara North maps out the skills and capabilities that define the work learning experience design (LXD) professionals do.Cara lays out an LXD process to guide readers in creating effective experiences. It includes the all-important task analysis to understand the shoes your learners walk in while performing at work. Other steps include creating assessments, conducting usability testing, and messaging the why behind the learning experience.Traditional instructional design places undue emphasis on dumping training content on learners through a combination of information, media, and technology. What’s missing is the context of how learning happens and the understanding that learning is a process, not a one-time event. This book will help you craft a 30/60/90–day plan to apply the concepts throughout. By the end, you’ll feel confident saying “yes” to the simple question, “Would you want to take your own learning experiences?”Trade Review“Dive into the core principles of learning experience design with Cara’s practical, hands-on guide. In either case, L&D professionals need new knowledge and skills—as well as insight into how to utilize their analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation abilities—to become successful in creating OD solutions.Edited by OD practitioner and expert Brian J. Flores, this volume includes in-house experts and consultant contributors from the OD field itself as well as those who crossed over from L&D to OD. Readers will learn how to apply the foundations of organization development to their multiculturalism, upskilling and reskilling, soft skill development, and succession planning processes and programs.Trade Review"This handbook is sensational. Book SynopsisDesign Effective Training Programs Despite Limited ResourcesInstructional Design on a Shoestring offers talent development professionals a process for developing effective training programs, even with limited resources. Expert instructional designer Brian Washburn applies the ADDIE model of instructional design and the Build-Borrow-Buy approach to provide guidance, quick tips, and shortcuts for designing a range of training modalities, including in-person, virtual and asynchronous, and self-guided e-learning. With this book, you will learn to build the structure of the instructional design process, effective formal and informal learning experiences, and an ecosystem that supports the learning initiatives. This crash-course of a book also guides you on working with subject matter experts, supervisors, and early testers and drawing learning design ideas from unfamiliar places. You’ll learn how and when to make decisions for using tools and technologies, hiring external help, and purchasing off-the-shelf training programs to speed up the work.Even if you don’t have a ton of time or access to a lot of money, you can still produce an effective learning experience based on sound educational theory and adult learning principles.About the On a Shoestring SeriesThe Association for Talent Development’s On a Shoestring series helps professionals successfully execute core topics in training and talent development when facing limitations of time, money, staff, and other resources. She had no business background. She was not involved in politics. She had only a four-figure capital investment to start with. And, surprisingly, she had very limited experience with cannabis products. So how did Garzot find herself at the forefront of California’s cannabis movement? In this inspirational memoir, Garzot describes her trajectory from a cannabis retail rookie navigating an unregulated market to a cannabis authority. During her time in the industry, she developed a wildly successful line of artisanal edibles, managed $12 million a year in all-cash sales, and became an advocate for cannabis legislation at the state capitol—all of which led to an eventual acquisition by High Times, one of the most recognized names in the industry. From office intrigues, personal crises, and shifting regulations to teamwork, innovation, and community leadership, Garzot, with good-natured humor, shares how thinking creatively, planning ahead, and forming connections in the most unlikely places contributed to her success in a continually shifting business landscape.Unconventional is the story of an industry in its wild heyday, the inner workings of local and state government and cannabis’s dicey road to regulation, and the seismic changes in the way cannabis was distributed and sold. But it is also the story of one woman’s tenacious spirit and all the lessons she learned the hard way—by refusing to give power to fear, taking risks, building community in a volatile environment, and listening to what people wanted—and how staying true to her vision paid off every step of the way.Anyone who has ever dreamed of following their gut and reinventing their life will be inspired by Garzot’s unusual and unconventional journey.
