Station Hill Press,U.S. Dao De Jing: The United Version
Book SynopsisThis new translation of the Chinese classic and foundation text of Daoism integrates the manuscript discoveries of the last 30 years, introducing a fundamentally different view of the nature of the Dao. Michael Puett, the Walter C. Klein Professor of Chinese History and Chair of the Committee on the Study of Religion at Harvard University, calls this translation "an excellent translation of one of the most important texts from the Chinese philosophical tradition," and goes on to state: "Building upon the crucial body of scholarship that has developed in China over the past several decades, Yang Peng succeeds in providing a translation that is both precise and readable. A wonderful achievement!"

Fairleigh Dickinson University Press Huck Finn in Italian, Pinocchio in English:
Book SynopsisThis book represents an investigation into one of the basic issues in the study of translation: how do we reconcile theory and practice? The main focus, in the form of close readings and think-aloud protocols in chapters 2 and 3, is on translations of two classic texts: Mark Twain's 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' and Carlo Collodi's 'Le avventure di Pinocchio'. The first and last chapters respectively seek to show what translation theory is and what translation practice is. Indeed, 'Theory and Hubris', chapter 1, provides a synthesis of the development of the interdiscipline of Translation Studies, with some consideration also given to the hermeneutical questions that inevitably arise when dealing with the interpretation of language.

Goldsmiths, Unversity of London Experimental Translation: The Work of Translation
Book SynopsisThe history and future of an alternative, oppositional translation practice. The threat of machine translation has given way to an alternative, experimental practice of translation that reflects upon and hijacks traditional paradigms. In much the same way that photography initiated a break in artistic practices with the threat of an absolute fidelity to the real, machine translation has paradoxically liberated human translators to err, to diverge, to tamper with the original, blurring creation and imitation with cyborg collage and appropriation. Seven chapters reimagine seven classic “procedures” of translation theory and pedagogy: loan, calque, literal translation, transposition, modulation, equivalence, and adaptation, updating them for the material political and poetical concerns of the contemporary era. Each chapter combines reflections from translation studies and experimental literature with practical guides, sets of experimental translation “procedures” to try at home or abroad, in the classroom, the laboratory, the garden, the dance hall, the city, the kitchen, the library, the shopping center, the supermarket, the train, the bus, the airplane, the post office, on the radio, on your phone, on your computer, and on the internet.

Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht GmbH & Co KG LXX Song of Songs and Descriptive Translation
Book SynopsisLXX Song of Songs and Descriptive Translation Studies. Dries De Crom intends to stimulate the cross-fertilization of Septuagint Studies and Translation Studies, particularly the theoretical framework of Descriptive Translation Studies (DTS). It engages with concepts and theories from DTS in order to demonstrate their applicability to the study of the Septuagint. The aim is not to replace the established methods of Septuagint Studies, but rather to show that they are fully compatible with descriptive approaches to translation. The greater part of the volume is dedicated to a meticulous verse-by-verse comparison between the LXX and MT texts of Song of Songs. As there is at present no full critical edition of the Greek texts of Song of Songs, due attention is given to the most important witnesses to the pre-Hexaplaric text. The textual study engages with matters of translation technique, textual criticism, linguistic interference and the interpretation of LXX Song of Songs. On the basis of this textual analysis, the volume explores the question of Kaige-Theodotion and LXX Song of Songs relation to it, as well as the peculiar textual-linguistic profile of LXX Songs of Songs, against the background of translational norms, interference, interlanguage and literary code.
