In thematischen Längsschnitten, u.a. zu den Problemen Krieg und Frieden sowie Staat und Kirche, zeigt sich die liberale Orientierung Schleiermachers. Die spezifische Eigenart dieser Konzeption profiliert die Autorin anhand der Frage nach der Freiheit des Einzelnen. Sie stellt heraus, dass es sich trotz der liberalen Orientierung um keinen liberalen Entwurf handelt.
