Book SynopsisSexual assault is a crime that devastates victims and has a far-reaching negative impact for The Department of Defense (DOD) because it undermines DODs core values, degrades mission readiness, and raises financial costs. DOD developed its strategy to prevent sexual assault using the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) framework for effective sexual-violence prevention strategies, but DOD does not link activities to desired outcomes or fully identify risk and protective factors. This book addresses the extent to which DOD developed an effective prevention strategy; implemented activities department-wide and at military installations related to the departments effort to prevent sexual assault; and developed performance measures to determine the effectiveness of its efforts to prevent sexual assault in the military.

Book SynopsisPlayful, funny, and fiercely emotional, Killebrew's acclaimed play explores what it means to be a father - or a daughter. It's not easy putting on a play. It's even harder when your dad is the lead character, he's playing himself, and even though you're the professional playwright and he's the emergency surgeon, he keeps trying to rewrite your script. After Hurricane Katrina swept through her home town, Boo was determined to write a play about it. But she never imagined it would be this hard...Trade ReviewCRITIC'S PICK! Book Synopsis“Enjoy this story. I already jumped to the parts about me.” - Boy George The extraordinary life story of David Hodge – the ‘Very Miss Dusty O’. "My story is one of laughter and hedonism, dressing up and showing off. I played Queen in a parallel universe of glamour, rhinestones and couture outfits. It’s also one of alienation and loneliness and of always being the odd one out. I lived through AIDS, Princess Diana and Thatcher but came out singing and dancing my way through Soho and the West End. I survived a murder attempt and bankruptcy. I am still here. Now I paint my feelings and not my face and once again feel as if my journey is beginning. This is my truth. Grubby at times but mine to tell. Here it is. Uncensored." - David Hodge From a skinny, ginger-haired kid from Walsall who was bullied at school, to the ‘Queen of Soho’, who would rule London’s drag scene in its most dazzling era. This gripping true story follows an unassuming boy, separated from other children and made to sit by the window, on to a remarkable career, with celeb buddies including Kylie Minogue, The Pet Shop Boys, Grace Jones, Cyndi Lauper and, of course, Boy George. But behind the glitter, there was a far darker reality. David worked simultaneously at London Lighthouse, the pioneering centre for the care of people living with HIV and AIDS. Here, the young David grew up fast and opened his eyes to the true impact of this terrifying pandemic. The contrast was stark between the life of David Hodge during the day and the life of Miss Dusty O after dark. After two decades in clubland, as drink and drugs started to take their toll and he feared he was developing his father’s alcoholic patterns, David changed his life yet again…Trade Review“Enjoy this story. I already jumped to the parts about me.” -- Boy George'You don't have to be a drag queen to know that we all have a looking glass self. David's search for his true self is insightful, lonely, laugh out loud funny. A journey of re-invention where personal stories ask bigger questions about gender, society, identity, creativity, and of course, clothes and makeup.' * Jeanette Winterson CBE, author *'Had me gripped from that killer opening line. Step aboard the Dusty train, all manner of life and love is here. For years David gave good drag. Now he gives good memoir, and I’m here for it.' * Jonathan Harvey, writer *'From bullied gay boy to Queen of Soho, from drag to riches and back again, this is a tale of survival, reinvention and self discovery. Dusty may have been a fabrication but David Hodge is a natural born storyteller. His book is witty, wise and one of the best memoirs I’ve read in years.' * Paul Burston, author, founder of the Polari Prize *'David has written his story of the glittering drag world, famous friends and lavish fun against an undercurrent of sadness… coming out to disapproving parents and the loss of friends to AIDS. A journey towards knowing himself.' * Dame Joan Bakewell *‘A deeply satisfying memoir about escape – from the bullies, from suburbia and ultimately from the gilded cage of his own creation.’ * Julian Clary, actor, author, presenter *'Behind every extraordinary life lies an even more remarkable story. This memoir is one of those rare things…a telling of loss, loneliness, and the ultimate transformation that will inspire queer souls for generations to come. May David sing on…' * Anna Richardson, TV presenter, producer, writer *'Heart wrenching and honest. This memoir is unique in its perspective, straddling the worlds of wealth and celebrity with that of the common man, which makes it a truly fascinating read. Hodge proves that you can have anything you want in life if you dress for it, and in a life full of achievements, this book has to be the top of them all.' * The Recs *'The Boy Who Sat By The Window is as much a cautionary tale as it is a chronicle of a wondrous time in London’s gay nightlife. Mistakes were made and Hodge owns them, and that self-awareness makes for a great read.' * The Queer Review *'This book is amazing.' * James Whale, TalkRadio *

Book SynopsisWhat is it about the culture and structure of Parliament House that has allowed sexual violence and harassment to flourish? Jenny was a Labor MP for twenty-three years, a Cabinet minister for six years, and now gets to view the parliament through the reflective eyes of someone who is no longer there. I'm in my first term as a Labor MP. So we have a generation between the beginnings of our time in the parliament. When Jenny was first elected in 1996, I was in my final years of high school. In that time, the number of women in the Australian Parliament has increased, but unfortunately, they are still not being heard. And tragically, they are not always safe. As women, we believe in the power of politics to do good, and as feminists we recognise that politics is about power: getting it, holding onto it, and using it to improve citizens' lives. Women wielding power in Parliament House, women fighting for equality and an end to discrimination across our country, have made their mark and they have caused change. But the underlying problem of men's attitudes towards women, of men believing it is their right to assault or harass women, remains. For this to change, men will have to give up some of the harmful ways in which they use powerin the parliament and in our community. We are calling for actions to have consequences, and for an end to a culture of political impunity. We want to seize this moment to do the unfinished workto make sure that women are not just in the room, but that they are safe there. We say enough is enough.

Rowman & Littlefield Surviving Sexual Violence
Book SynopsisVictims of sexual assault experience their trauma in different ways, and often one path to recovery and healing is right for one person, but not right for another. While there are some general mental health effects of sexual violence, this book outlines and describes the impact of particular types of sexual violation. Whether the survivor has experienced childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault during adulthood, marital rape, sexual harassment, sex trafficking, or sexual violence within the military, they will find aspects of her experience in these pages. Once survivors understand the ways in which they have been affected, they are introduced to various pathways to surviving sexual violence and moving forward. The chapters provide case examples and specific activities which give a fuller description of the ways survivors can make use of the particular approaches, which include mind-body practices, counseling, group therapies, self-defense training, and others. Hay House UK Ltd Joining Forces: Empowering Male Survivors to Thrive
Book SynopsisJoining Forces: Empowering Male Survivors to Thrive is an inspirational new book written to empower male survivors of sexual victimization to develop skills they can use to overcome the effects of trauma and learn to thrive in their lives. Male survivors often struggle to feel any sense of hope for the future, so this book is designed to inspire survivors and their allies with easily learned skills developed over the course of the author's 30-year career, and the real-life experiences of male survivors who have learned to thrive. Each chapter invites survivors to dare to dream that they can take another step in their healing process through leaving their isolation behind, challenging their dysfunctional beliefs and replacing them with healthier functional messages, practicing healing exercises, reading about the struggles and successes of men just like themselves, and learning how to build hope through the use of affirmations. With a foreword by Tyler Perry, this book is unique in that it is based on the experiences of over 750 male survivors who have participated in MaleSurvivor Weekends of Recovery. The tools taught during those weekends, plus many more developed through the clinical experiences of the author, are presented so that each survivor reading the book has an opportunity to use the skills as he faces the challenges of his recovery. Survivors and their allies learn they are not alone in their struggles. Including the writings of male survivors and their partners will help to end their isolation and help them know others have walked in their path, become stronger, and found a sense of freedom. They will read about how these men and their allies have learned to make healthier choices that have enhanced their relationships, their emotional functioning, their job performance and their lives.
