C & T Publishing Modern Rainbow: 14 Imaginative Quilts That Play with Color
Book SynopsisShowcase a spectrum of color with innovative rainbow quilts that awaken the senses. With color inspiration as you’ve never seen before, this collection of modern designs features striking projects perfect for your favorite designer fabrics. Fourth-generation quilter Rebecca Bryan shares 14 modern quilts that take their cues from the color wheel. From modern-traditional to improvisational and liberated layouts, these saturated patchwork quilts breathe new life into the lucky rainbow. Arrange your fabric in a way that honors nature’s prism, or take liberties as you mix in neutrals, substitute related hues, or experiment with color intensity. Bryan’s quilts will inspire you to play with jewel tones, pastels, and even neons as you incorporate a modern rainbow in your quilting projects!Trade ReviewMay 2015 A great book that champions bold colour choices, Modern Rainbow zings with style. The fourteen featured quilts are fantastic examples of strong colour combinations and you're sure to find a projects or two that you feel you have to create in its well-designed pages. There's a growing and encouraging trend for quilters and authors to encourage enthusiasm over technical perfection, and Rebecca Bryan, whilst providing a wealth of helpful detail and advice, continues that trend. The quilts here are, on a technical level, very accomplished, but they roar with vibrant passion. There are traditionally inspired projects, modern and more freeform projects featured; all them bristle with delicious colour choices, quilts you'll not only want to make but also use and show off. In playing with colour so effectively and subverting the clichés of the rainbow colour set, Rebecca has triumphed with her selections here. The Lucy in the Sky quilt, that plays with bright primary colours against black and white, is a particular favourite, and Monstar actually looks like it might radiate animatedly like a neon sign, such is the sense of movement. * Popular Patchwork *Table of ContentsContents Dedication Acknowledgments Preface Introduction Basics Using the Spectrum in Quilts Tools and Materials Techniques and Sewing Basics Modern Traditional Quilts Lucy in the Sky Bubbles Irish + Rainbow Streak The {In}Visible Rainbow Modern Quilts Huckleberry Flame In the Throne Room Ducks in a Row Improvisational and Liberated Quilts Wavelength Rainbow Remix MonStar Icarus Star The Impossible Rainbow Template Patterns Resources Fabric and Supplies Bibliography About the Author

C & T Publishing Foolproof Walking-Foot Quilting Designs: Visual Guide • Idea Book
Book SynopsisTake your machine’s walking foot for a walk on the wild side and move beyond basic stitch-in-the-ditch quilting! In her follow-up to best-selling Foolproof Machine Quilting, award-winning author Mary Mashuta teaches you how to quilt attractive lines, curves, and geometric shapes with a walking foot. The book includes a multitude of designs, each adapted for walking-foot quilting and marked with clock icons to indicate the skill level and time required to accomplish it. This visual guide provides an inspirational gallery of 30 finished quilts and is enhanced by detailed photos of successfully quilted blocks, center panels, sashing, borders, and corners.Trade ReviewThere is no pencil or chalk marking on the quilts. Tape and freezer paper templates only are used. Detailed instructions about threads and needles are followed by paper folding techniques showing how to make the templates. Simple commercial templates can also be transferred to freezer paper. This is not continuous line quilting. The designs are often built up with pattern upon pattern and decorative stitching. Later complex Sashiko designs are added. There are clear diagrams, grading the designs from quick to time consuming. Unfortunately the quilting is hard to see in the photos against the heavily patterned fabric. * British Patchwork and Quilting *Mary is showing us to move on with our machine quilting. It's time for stitch-in-the-ditch to move over. Her clever designs can be used with any block, border and corner. A great bonus is there is no maths, no marking with these designs. You can use templates, paper cutting, traditional or even sashiko designs. Once pieced together you can embellish your work further. Skill levels required are indicated. But there is more - this book provides visual inspiration, the basics of quilting, creating templates, making blocks, creating centre pieces. There's a great gallery of work too. It's all about creative quilting that often uses the shapes in your design to stitch and quilt. * Karen Platt Yarnsandfabrics.co.uk/crafts *Table of ContentsDedication Chapter 1: Let's Get Started Who is this book for? C & T Publishing Scrap Quilt Secrets: 6 Design Techniques for
Book SynopsisTurn your scrappy mess into a quilting success! Armed with the easy-to-use S.C.R.A.P.S. system (style, contrast, repetition, accent colour, palette, and selvages), you’ll sew extraordinary quilts from every last bit of the fabric you love—even the tiniest scraps. Personalize 16 beginner-friendly quilts using the blank colouring pages, or apply the concepts to tackle any scrap quilt you want to make. These 6 must-know scrap secrets will forever change the way you look at scrap quilting!Trade ReviewI love other people’s quilt secrets, especially when they share them! This book reveals secrets to help you use your stash, even the smallest scraps. The author has developed the SCRAPS system. You might be familiar with the design ideas for using your stash. Yet these design tips will help you to design quilts you love. This book provides 16 scrap quilting projects. They are all good. The book provides full-size templates where necessary, full instructions with clear photos and diagrams. * Karen Platt- yarnsandfabrics.co.uk *July 2016 The six design techniques are based on the acronym SCRAPS. Style is a personal choice, traditional, geometric patterns, folky etc. Constrast, more important than colour. Use a camera to check out colour values. Repetition, use one colour or shape in every block. Accent, one fabric to unite blocks e.g. as in sashing. Palette, limit colours to two or three. Selevedges are perhaps the mopst surprising, cut selvedges together by layering them to make striped fabric. Every area has two or more quilts for each technique. There are clear directions for many methods of piecing. It is an interesting approach to scrap quilts. It is my book of the month. * British Patchwork and Quilting *Table of ContentsIntroduction S.C.R.A.P. Track your progress with a design chart and learn expert tips for fabric cutting and strip piecing for quilts that dance as if they're set to music.Trade ReviewI have always loved Bargello needlepoint, so it is natural that I love bargello quilting. It can be a great use of colour, so I find it fascinating. It is one of those fabulous quilt techniques that achieves a very complicated look, whilst not being too difficult to make. Braided Bargello Quilts takes bargello one step beyond, it's like ordinary bargello with knobs on - knots, or twists and turns. There are 16 projects in the book from bed-sized quilts to smaller projects. In Basic Bargello Construction, the author looks at fabric, cutting, designing and constructing as well as mitred corners. If you find the design chart in this section a little confusing, it becomes very apparent what you need to do if you look at the projects. All projects are accompanied by clear charts and easy to follow instructions. -- Karen Platt * www.karenplatt.co.uk *

Absolutely superb. -- Karen Platt * www.karenplatt.co.uk *At its simplest, large high contrast prints, with repeat patterns, cut into 60 degree wedge triangles sewn together can create different hexagons. These techniques however, make pieced wedges into hexagons plus joining triangles, diamonds and other shapes. The principal aim is to teach thirty two differently pieced hexagons, mostly 16 1/2" x 19" in diagrams and words. There is advice for choosing and cutting suitable fabric. The final section includes actual size templates. The sampler runner is a good way to learn the methods. There are many examples of completed quilts with pieced borders. * British Patchwork & Quilting *
