Kehrer Verlag Dog Town
Book SynopsisDog Town is a street photography project about the dogs of Venice Beach, California. The book is named after Dogtown, an area of West Los Angeles that used to encompass the slums of Venice and Santa Monica''s Ocean Park, back in the 1960''s and 70''s. The surfers and skateboarders of Dogtown were known as aggressive, antisocial school dropouts from poor families. Today, actual dogs of all breeds and social status are taking over Venice Beach. The canines photographed in this book often embrace Dogtown''s rich skateboarding culture. American photographer Dotan Saguy and his Leica camera delight us with many lighthearted, quirky, emotional moments captured with much love and compassion for both the dogs and their Dogtown surroundings. This book is a modern homage to Elliott Erwitt and a must-have for dog lovers.

Kehrer Verlag The Lives of Others
Book SynopsisJames Carroll''s photographs, taken on the streets of the United States over the course of more than forty years, form a unique compilation of historical Americana. Driven by a need to preserve memories of his own and others'' experiences, and by what curator and author Sean Corcoran describes as ''his longing to see, to know and to understand'', Carroll explores the transience of human life and relationships. A quiet and keen observer, Carroll knows how to distil, through his lens, the profound in ordinary moments. His photographs speak of loneliness and friendship, sadness and joy, as well as childhood and adulthood in all their complexity. The images lead us from a documentary approach to a more subjective sphere in which the author imagines new scenarios in chance encounters, while at the same time commenting on the American setting. A political dimension also unfolds through some of his images, telling of economic and racial disparities in both metropolitan and suburban areas. Mos

Book SynopsisBusinessmen may all look run-of-the-mill,but each one has his own special brand of humorand individuality and is a hero for someone. 2006My father spent the greater part of his life as a businessman devoted to his work. It wasn''t until after he died that I developed a deep respect for him. Not having experience as a businessman myself,I''m deeply moved and filled with hope at finding the instants when dadswho sweat and struggle to keep their companies afloat and prosperous transform into heroes flying through the sky. Businessmen in their iconic suits sent leaping away from the mundane world, shine and show their individuality. As I mentally superimpose their figures on the ideal of my dead father, I create my photographic works. 2015I''m very proud to be the son of a businessman. I became a photographer and now I continue to photograph businessmen. I''m sure the day will come when I become a father. The way of life of a father whose children are of first importance. The subtle but happy sense of distance between father and adolescent daughter. These are things I hope to express as I continue photographing businessmen.

Vandret SCRIM
Book SynopsisSCRIM is an artists' book functioning as a purposeful record of Ida Nissen's creative process, as well as a collection of finished works. This rich edition, printed in five colours, presents a broad spectrum of the artist's influences and sources, unpacking ideas and underlying manoeuvres in flux between distant and close, foreign, and alike, hidden and revealed. Remnants from the colour darkroom and the large-format camera blend with memories, found images, book clippings and cut-out shapes forming a stream of consciousness interspersed with Nissen's finished collage works. The hard-cover book is clothbound in a granite-black fabric with a loose weave, referencing the book's title and nature of a scrim fabric. The silver Pantone ink used throughout hearkens back to the gelatin silver darkroom process fundamental to Nissen's experimental analogue, camera-based practice. The typeface in use, Favorit Hangul, underlines and complements the search into the artist's South Korean origin as its tubular shapes and geometric constructions formally reference the Korean Hangul alphabet. SCRIM is printed in an edition of 300, of which 50 are a special edition, each with an additional silkscreen impression on the front cover, hand-printed by the artist, and a unique set of photogram cut-outs enclosed in an acid-free sleeve on the inside back cover.

Forma Edizioni Antonino Bove 1010123: L’arte più potente della
Book SynopsisThe first monograph dedicated to the artistic journey of Sicilian-born Antonino Bove (b.1945), one of Italy’s most multifaceted contemporary artists, and his research into the sphere of dreaming and death. In the early 1960s, Antonino Bove began using a photographic camera to produce prints, and assembled images and texts, integrating materials like wax, tar, gauze, and different pigments into his paintings in addition to small objects and glass. His work is charged with an ethereal, psychological, and metaphysical sense of poetry. During the following decade, this orientation was intensified with deeper research into ethno-anthropology, characterised by social, political and historical elements. But the artist’s principal source of fascination was his utopian artistic project aimed at saving mankind from physical death, and at the same time, saving the universe itself. Text in English and Italian.

Damiani Zone Eleven
Book SynopsisZone Eleven is a reference to Ansel Adams’ Zone System, a method to control exposure of the negative in order to obtain a full range of tonality in the photographic print from the deepest black of Zone 0 to the brightest highlight in Zone 10. Zone Eleven is a metaphor coined by artist Mike Mandel in his challenge to create a book of Adams’ photographs outside of the bounds of his personal work. Many of these photographs were found in the archives of his commercial and editorial assignments, and from his experimentation with the new Polaroid material of the times. For this book, Mandel has unearthed images that are unexpected for Adams, and created a new context of facing page relationships, and sequence. Zone Eleven is the product of Mike Mandel’s research of over 50,000 Adams images located within four different archives to present a body of Adams’ work that was unknown until now. Mike Mandel is well known for his collaboration with Larry Sultan in the 1970s - 1990s. They published Evidence in 1977, a collection of 59 photographs chosen from more than two million images that the artists viewed at the archives of government agencies and tech-oriented corporations. Conceptually, Zone Eleven is a companion book to Evidence. As Evidence reframes the institutional documentary photograph with new context and meaning, Zone Eleven responds to the audience expectation of “the iconic Ansel Adams nature photograph.” But Mandel selects images that do not fit that expectation. Zone Eleven is a book of Ansel Adams images that surprisingly speak to issues of the social relations, the built environment, and alienation.
