GINGKO You Can Crush the Flowers: A Visual Memoir of the
Book SynopsisPart visual history, part memoir, You Can Crush the Flowers is the celebrated Egyptian-Lebanese artist Bahia Shehab's chronicle of the Egyptian Revolution of 2011 and its aftermath, as it manifested itself not only in the art on the streets of Cairo but also through the wider visual culture that emerged during the Revolution. Marking the ten year anniversary of the revolution, the book tells the stories that inspired both her own artwork and those of her fellow-revolutionaries. It narrates the events of the revolution as they unfolded, describing on one hand the tactics deployed by the regime to drive protesters from the street, from the use of tear gas and snipers to employing brute force, intimidation techniques and virginity tests, and on the other hand the retaliation by the protesters online and on the street in marches, chants, street art and memes. Throughout this powerful and moving account, and using a vast array of over 250 images, Bahia Shehab responds to what she has witnessed as both artist and activist. The result bears witness to the brutality of the regime and pays tribute to the protestors who bravely defied it.Trade Review"By her own account, Shehab, one of the Arab world’s most inventive graphic artists, was not a political rebel until the Egyptian uprising of 2011. . . The memoir is evocative and moving; the illustrations an important piece of the historical record." * Foreign Affairs *Table of ContentsIntroduction 6Rooms in an Imagined Museum (25 January to 11 February 2011) 10The Calligrapher’s Headline (12 February 2011) 18A State of Democratic Infancy (February to October 2011) 22A Thousand Times No (November to December 2011) 28First Anniversary (January to March 2012) 40The Candidates (March to June 2012) 60The New Pharaoh (July to December 2012) 72The Children of Asyut (January to June 2013) 82Rebel, Cat! Book SynopsisDreich: (especially of weather) dreary; bleak. Complaining about the weather is a national pastime for Scots – it’s no surprise that one of our favourite words is ‘dreich’! This is another in McCredie’s series of photography books that celebrate of all that is dreich. Fifty dreich images of Edinburgh, accompanied by fifty equally dreich captions. To the author’s mind the images in this book are uplifting and joyful. There is nothing miserable about dreich. A sunny day has no more right to exist than a dreich one.

Pimpernel Press Ltd The Lindsays of Balcarres: A Century of an
Book SynopsisThe Lindsays of Balcarres began with the rediscovery of some dusty photograph albums at the home of the author’s late father in Fife. The wealth of images within, unexplored for over eighty years, provided the perfect way to present the fascinating untold stories of the people who had been brought up at Balcarres. The Lindsay family, which traces its roots back to the time of Charlemagne, almost lost everything after siding with the Stuarts for two hundred years, but fortunate marriages, colonial endeavours and the industrial revolution enabled them to create a new fortune and in 1848 successfully reclaim their position as the Premier Earls of Scotland. This renewal coincided with the birth of photography in the 1840s, which encouraged the family to capture moments of their leisure pursuits and other enthusiasms and the part they played in the events of their time. The collection also serves as a social history, recording the rapidly changing industries they were involved in and the relationships with their staff on which their way of life depended. The reader will encounter a gallery of colourful characters, including Elizabeth Lindsay, who married the 3rd Earl of Hardwicke in 1782 and became Vicereine of Ireland; her great-nephew, Robert, who joined the Guards at the outbreak of the Crimean War and carried the Queen’s Colours to the heights of Alma, earning him the first of two citations for the Victoria Cross; and his brother-in-law, Alexander, the 25th Earl of Crawford and his polymath son Ludovic, who together rebuilt the family library, Bibliotheca Lindesiana, into one of the world’s finest. Some of the earliest daguerreotypes in the family archive point to the enduring affinity that would develop between photography and the country house. It was the perfect medium for a family so deeply involved in both fine art and the latest technology. Ludovic Lindsay’s painstaking restoration of these remarkable family photographs and archival research mean that a chronicle of his forebears’ lives, told through over three hundred hitherto unpublished images, is for the first time possible.Trade Review"A collection of unique photographs, unexplored for 80 years, which present a fascinating cast of characters and shed light on over 150 years of leisure, travel, industry, relationships and passions in a family that has been at the heart of Scottish history for centuries." * History Scotland *"...Remarkable pictures...More than just a family’s memories, it offers an important glimpse into the nation’s social history through the story of one aristocratic family." * Scottish Field *"The wealth of images within, unexplored for over eighty years, provided the perfect way to present the fascinating untold stories of the people who had been brought up at Balcarres. The collection also serves as a social history, recording the rapidly changing industries they were involved in and the relationships with their staff on which their way of life depended." * Listed Property Owners Club magazine *“A superb testimony requiring the widest readership.” * The Field *“Forgotten but thankfully not lost, the Lindsay albums area fascinating and valuable archive.” * The Herald (Scotland) *“A diverting book of biography, richly illustrated with over 300 photographs." * The Victorian *“The photographs, which could so easily have overwhelmed the narrative, are skilfully pressed into service to personalise a fascinating slice of family, economic and national history.” * Historic House magazine *“…crammed with chapters on themes as diverse as electricity and yachts, as well as profiles on dozens of Ludovic’s ancestors.” * Scotland magazine *

GOST Books Flamingo
Book SynopsisThe images reproduced in this book are photographed by Chloe Sells in Botswana, using large and medium format cameras that use film. The work is later printed in a traditional darkroom. The darkroom process is spontaneous and consuming, layering light, texture and form to interact with photographic alchemy. Some of the images are drawn on after they have been printed with paint and marker. Because of Sells’ method of working, each outcome is unique.

GOST Books Sackcloth and Ashes
Book SynopsisSince the 1980s, Witold Krassowski has photographed during decisive historical political events that have helped shape society in countries like India, Mongolia and Afghanistan, but perhaps his most well-known images are the ones he took during the transforming conditions in Poland after 1989—choosing to focus on the lives of common citizens—rather than the elite or political entities. Capturing basic human phenomenon such as birth, procreation and death, Krassowski’s work identifies a common thread throughout humanity.

Holland House Books Cafe by Wren's St James-in-the-Fields, Lunchtime:
Book SynopsisThis book has collaboration and translation at its heart: between people, words and images, languages, cultures. The poems came first, in Polish. Then came the photographic response to them. Then four translators, MARTA DZIUROSZ, MARIA JASTRZEBSKA, DANUSIA STOK and ELZBIETA WOJCIK-LEESE, took a set of 12 or 13 poems each and translated them into English. All people involved were women: the poet, the photographer, the four translators and the two editors. Together they arrived at 51 Polish poems, 51 English poems and 51 photographs making this collection. They raise themes such as cultural identity and migration, queerness, racism, isolation and family memories.Trade Review"I knew that Lisa Kalloo (photography) and Anna Blasiak (poetry) were good but not this good! I’ve just been reading their new book, from cover to cover and back again. It is astonishingly beautiful, the poetry is exquisite, quietly observed, perfect and hits you in the heart; the photos are magical and inspired, riotously gorgeous and moving interpretations of daily life. And of course – only the best translators!” Rosie Goldsmith, Director of the European Literature Network; "Anna's poems make me think of the verse of the Swiss French poet Phillippe Jaccottet. She seems to be interested in analogies of life events, mysteries that are invisible at first instance, slips of tongue, contrasts, things held back, hidden moods and emotions. Just like Anna's poems, Lisa's photos capture and arrest details, writings, colours, lights and shadows, as well as textures of the world, they are snapshots, images captured as if by chance on a journey." WIOLETTA GREG; "I love the restrained poetic voice, vivid images, the stillness and delicate quietness in Anna Blasiak’s poetry. I love the photos by Lisa Kalloo in the book too; very poetic choice, great sensibility.” Milan Šelj

Conveyor Editions Moemoea
Book SynopsisMoemoe? explores the revival of traditional voyaging in Hawaii and how the canoe became a catalyst for connection, cultural empowerment, and fostering humanity's relationship with the natural world. It is a story of how ancient knowledge and modern science coalesced to revitalize a nearly extinct cultural tradition and a testament to the power of dreams, or moemoe?. The first book, The Spell, opens with a series of lush photographs that capture life on the open ocean, lulling the reader into a sensory experience. Drawn from ancestral voyaging mythology and the artist's own visionary dreams, fragments of narrative text ebb and flow through the book, while illustrations by Sophy Hollington serve as visual footnotes. Taking inspiration from nautical logbooks, The Spell is wire-bound into a hardcover case and incorporates luminescent paper to evoke the glistening surface of the ocean. Tucked into a discreet back pocket, The Story features an essay by Jeremy Haik alongside Ko's documenta
