Bindu Publishers Yoga, Tantra and Meditation in Daily Life
Book SynopsisThis yoga book, firmly rooted in the tradition, is a modern classic. It is first and foremost a practical guide to the whole system of yoga. The clear step-by-step instructions, richly illustrated, make it easy for the beginner to learn the yoga poses, breathing exercises, relaxation and meditation. For the experienced, the book contains in-depth sections that include both practice and theory. It even elucidates the tantric tradition, kundalini yoga, the chakras and the sexual rituals. Use it as a self-study course and for inspiration in your everyday life. --------- This book differs from most other books on yoga, it has its fundament in the tantric tradition, that is, the author's intention and interest is to offer you a way to achieve tangible results, rather than to present philosophical explanations, create dreams and ideals or follow the fleeting fashions in the yoga of today. The goal is to make it possible for you to create a strong and supple body and a free and creative mind, and to find peace within yourself. If you really want something out of yoga, it is not enough to do some exercises quickly and mechanically like in sport or fitness training. --------- The book shows yoga in its original light; recreational, meditative and relaxing, thus providing necessary energy for meeting your daily activities with peace and wellbeing. --------- Yoga, Tantra and Meditation in Daily Life is one of the most widespread yoga books of today. This is the third expanded and revised edition, for the UK and EU markets.Trade ReviewYoga, Tantra and Meditation in Daily Life is an inspiring and, above all, refreshingly practical book. It has been written by a man who understands his trade and knows what he is talking about, you feel this when reading it. Even people who already know something about yoga will be surprised at how much this book offers. The last four chapters exclusively treat the theme of meditation and belong to the best of what I have read on the subject. ------- Swami Pragyamurti Saraswati, London.Table of ContentsPart One; Introduction and Background. --------- Chapter 1; Yoga --------- Chapter 2; Why Yoga and Meditation? --------- Chapter 3; How to Begin --------- Chapter 4; 8 Steps in Yoga and Meditation... and a way to use this book. --------- Chapter 5;The different Spheres of the Yogic Tradition; an introduction to the different branches of Yoga, including Tantra, Ashram, Swami, Kirtan, Mantra and More. ------------------- Part Two; The Body, Breathing and Energy. --------- Chapter 6; How to Use a Yoga Programme --- Sun I Greet You --- Wind- and Tension- Releasing Exercises --- Breathing I --- Intermediate Poses --- Breathing II --- Back Programme --- Hatha Yoga Cleansing Techniques --- Loosening the Knots; Shakti Bandha --- Eye Yoga --- The Ladder; A Programme of Mudras--- The Classical Programme --- Breathing III --- The Deep Ones; A Programme of Mudras --- How to Sit When You Meditate. --------- Chapter 7; The Tantric Sexual Act. --------- Chapter 8; The Chakras and Kundalini Yoga. ------------------- Part Three; The Senses and the Mind. --------- Chapter 9; How Can I Have a Relaxed Relationship to Influences --- Pratyahara functions Like This --- Yoga Nidra; Deep Relaxation --- Inner Silence; 4 Steps of a Tantric Meditation. ------------------- Part Four; Going Deeper. --------- Chapter 10; Inspired Interest; On Concentration --- Introduction; 3 Stages in Meditation --- Tratak; Outer and Inner --------- Chapter 11; Clear Awareness; On Meditation --- Body Awareness --- Breath Awareness --- Mantra --- The Sequence --- Ajapa Japa, a Meditation in the Tantric Kriya Yoga Tradition --- Kriya Yoga --------- Chapter 12; Discover Yourself --- Meditation. ------------------- Part Five; ... and Action --- Yoga in Daily Life --------- Index and Glossary.

Book SynopsisTrade Review"The somatic movement field is growing rapidly and these authors are well suited to represent its diversity of theories and applications. Through their vast experience they provide a range of perspectives that demonstrates the full scope of somatic phenomena. A wonderful introduction to the more philosophical strand of somatic inquiry."--Martha Eddy, founding director of Dynamic Embodiment SMT and Moving for Life/The Center for Kinesthetic Education"Full of passion, care, and creative spirit, this book brings the depth and scope of somatic movement into view and should be read by all artists, scholars, and students interested in working closely with their embodied dancing selves."--Vida L. Midgelow, author of Reworking the Ballet: Counter-Narratives and Alternative Bodies"I was impressed with the organization, structure, and meticulousness of Moving Consciously. It will be a welcome addition to the growing literature in the field."--Rebecca Nettl-Fiol, author of Dance and the Alexander Technique: Exploring the Missing Link"There is not another publication that so completely addresses the merging of dance, somatics, and phenomenological practice. Beautifully written, well conceived, thought provoking, and reflective. It will become one of the new and long lasting 'must reads' in the field."--Becky Dyer, School of Film, Dance and Theatre, Arizona State University"The care Fraleigh has taken to guide the reader through the different contributions, framed by her own writing, makes this a very readable and accessible book that is likely to appeal to a wide range of readers, particularly dance teachers, body work practitioners and students."--Dance Research

Back to the Dance Itself is like a tribute, an unplanned Festschrift, celebrating Fraleigh's contribution to the dynamic entwining of dance and phenomenology." --Journal of Folklore Research"This beautiful collection is a choreography of voices emanating directly from movement. It celebrates Sondra Fraleigh's lifetime of integrating philosophical knowledge with somatic experiences at the same time as providing an empathic space for the contributions of others. Pressing contemporary issues such as climate change, the vitality of matter, and escaping from anthropocentrism are addressed, revealing new resonances for the philosophy and practices of phenomenology."--Susan Kozel, author of Closer: Performance, Technologies, Phenomenology"Diving deep inside the boundary spaces that link body and language, this book is a tour de force. Asking 'What makes dance what it is?', Fraleigh et al. thread experiential paths that will appeal to movement practitioners across the dance and somatics spectrum. Plural phenomenologies are made philosophically accessible, with evocative exemplars revealing dance's immense horizons: diverse, relationally purposeful and always closer than we think."--Daniel Deslauriers, California Institute of Integral Studies

Book SynopsisCombining Hinduism with Western concepts and values, a new hybrid form of religion has developed in the US over the past century. This title traces the history of various Hindu-inspired movements in America, and argues that together they constitute a discrete category of religious practice, a distinct and identifiable form of new religion.Trade ReviewOverall, this book presents a thorough illustration of guru-following as a 'non-institutional institution' (85), and convincingly articulates the phenomenon of HIMMs [Hindu-Inspired Meditation Movements] as a valuable category within present studies of religion. Book SynopsisMeditation has flourished in different parts of the world ever since the foundations of the great civilizations were laid. It played a vital role in the formation of Asian cultures that trace much of their heritage to ancient India and China. This volume brings together for the first time studies of the major traditions of Asian meditation as well as material on scientific approaches to meditation. It delves deeply into the individual traditions while viewing each of them from a global perspective, examining both historical and generic connections between meditative practices from numerous historical periods and different parts of the Eurasian continent. It seeks to identify the cultural and historical peculiarities of Asian schools of meditation while recognizing basic features of meditative practice across cultures, thereby taking the first step toward a framework for the comparative study of meditation. The Experiment LLC In Tune
Book SynopsisAs anyone who has ever taken a music lesson knows, the key to playing well is practice. The same is true for another transformative discipline-meditation-and yet so often meditation and music fail to harmonize to the degree they could. IN TUNE takes you through twelve ways to sync them perfectly in pursuit of greater mindfulness: a kind of awareness that colors your everyday activities, and perks up your ears to truly hear the symphony of sounds, and silences, all around. In this clear, straightforward guide drawn from years of personal and professional experience, award-winning music veteran Richard Wolf outlines how the skills and intentions of music and mindfulness can help nurture and complement each other. There's the conceptual "bridges" they share, of Dedication, Concentration, Patience & Perseverance, Silence, and more; plus a broad repertoire of music-based meditation and awareness exercises, ranging from basics like counting the beats of the breath to more advanced. Along the path are colorful anecdotes of famous musicians that illustrate how great an impact mindfulness can have on accessing creative potential, in music or any kind of art. As we come more fully in tune with our personal soundtracks-from the sound of the breath to the sounds of cars and dogs outside the window-we can enter into deeper harmony with ourselves and others. Practice-whether it's listening to a favorite song, refining the performance of a piece of music, or settling into a meditation seat-becomes a joy in and of itself over time, and its payoff of inner silence more accessible as we move through our increasingly noisy world.

Watkins Media Limited Mindfulness in Motion: A new approach to a
Book SynopsisMindfulness in Motion is a major new approach to managing stress, anxiety and depression and gaining unprecedented self-awareness through body-centred mindfulness. Drawing on the techniques used in Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy, the latest research in neuroanatomy and Eastern martial arts traditions, Dr Tamara Russell has created a unique practice to help you cope more effectively with the most challenging emotions and feelings. Dr Russell has used these techniques effectively in a clinical setting with sufferers of manic depression as well as in corporate settings with managers experiencing a high degree of stress and with elite athletes looking to integrate seamlessly body and mind. Because her approach is grounded in the body Dr Russell has found it effective for people who find a traditional ?sitting still? meditation approach very difficult. Chapter by chapter, the book explores how we can slow down, engage in the present moment, train our attention, understand ourselves and be truly at ease. Each chapter is full of diagrams, thought-provoking and informative illustrations (such as time-lapse photography and brain neuroimaging) and simple exercises and breathing techniques that anyone can perform. Many of the exercises (such as ?mindful walking? or the ?day of pausing?) can be fitted into your daily routine; others, such as ?mindful backward swimming?, offer a fresh and intriguing approach to the concept of exercise. For the first time, brain neuroimaging is used to prove the beneficial effects of physical and mental exercise. This ground-breaking book makes accessible to everyone the healing power of meditative practices supported by the latest scientific evidence.Trade Review'This is by far the clearest book on mindful movement and just reading it puts you in the moment. Book SynopsisPower Seeds and Magic Minutes: the route to inner space. The Ecology of the Soul: A Manual of Peace, Power and Personal Growth for Real People in the Real World explains the seven powers of our own inner ecosystem - the Ecology of the Soul - and how to revive them to regain our natural, true state of peace, power and well-being. When the Ecology of the Soul is in balance, we live and thrive in this world, and create the new one, with grace, harmony and beauty. Each one of the seven powers - Nature, Creativity, Endurance, Love, Communication, Focus and Connection - generates seven separate meditations, which in turn create 'Power Seeds' of thought and mental habit. Plant one a day, and in a 'Magic Minute' - 60 powerful seconds of daily, active meditation - you achieve the balance, power and peace of Soul Consciousness. Warm, accessible, even humorous, the book acknowledges that we're all human and not everyone is able or willing to aim for the highest path of enlightenment. It gives practical methods by which anyone, at whatever level of commitment, can benefit.

Book SynopsisWith clarity of thought and realism, Rev. Ross Cribb sets out to provide an alternative vocabulary with which to describe significant events, human nature and spirituality, with the goal to empower individuals to have happier and more meaningful lives. His highly readable combination of Zen, philosophy, psychology and science makes a compelling case for his view of spirituality. Explaining that we often refer to different parts of ourselves as independent, he takes this a step further by invoking the New Age concept of Energy Bodies (specifically the Physical, Emotional, Mental and Spiritual Bodies). With these he explains Enlightenment, Being in the Moment and Energy Healing-an effective method for releasing blockages that take us out of the moment.

Together with introducing you to other meditation skills such as pathworking, shape shifting, astral travel and working with meditation to cleanse your chakras. The ability to bend into a pretzel shape and chant 'om' optional...Trade ReviewThere are many, many books about meditation on the market - I've got quite a few of them myself already - so why would I want another? Well, because Pagan Portals - Meditationis actually a bit different. Most of the books on meditation I've seen are aimed at the general mind, body, spirit market. This one is aimed specifically at pagans and witches. It is written by experienced witch Rachel Patterson, whose previous books include the excellent Grimoire of a Kitchen Witch and A Kitchen Witch's World of Magical Food. All of her books are well written and very practical. In Pagan Portals - Meditation she offers an overview of all the various types of meditation, including the currently extremely popular mindfulness and other widely varying forms including guided pathworkings, breathing meditation, Transcendental MeditationTM and Zen meditation. As well as explaining the basics of how to get started, Pagan Portals - Meditation goes into more advanced magical techniques, such as hedge riding, shape shifting and astral travel - or out of body experiences. For me, the chapter on how to use meditation to achieve an out-of-body experience was the most useful. To be completely honest, in the past I've only ever had out-of-body experiences when I've been very ill - and that's not something I'd recommend to anyone. Rachel Patterson offers a whole range of much safer techniques to get your consciousness outside your physical body and off travelling in the astral realms. Pagan Portals - Meditation would make a great addition to any witch's bookshelf. And some of the techniques it teaches could be just the thing to keep calm and relaxed with all the stresses of life and the festive season upon us at the moment. http: //www.badwitch.co.uk/2015/12/review-pagan-portals-meditation.html--Lucya Szachnowski "Badwitch blog "

Collective Ink Lost for Words: The poetry of mindfulness and
Book SynopsisIn the early hours of almost every morning during the Covid lockdown in the months of March and April 2021, these poems began mysteriously arriving - like persistent early morning visitors. Curiously, the author's wife was absent for the whole of this time, and much to her amusement, in her place lay an open notebook, a blank page and a pen. Soon nearly 40 poems filled the notebook - Martin never having written poetry in his life before. Although the pandemic provides the foreground for this collection of poems, they have also been prompted by timeless universal themes, symbolised in a snowdrop, a park bench or an olive tree; found in conversations about love and life and death, in news items and random images. But most of all arising out of that deep longing for union and freedom at the source of each of us. The poems are about what it means to be alive and deeply connected to the natural world. In so doing they go to the heart of mindful living and non-dual wisdom

Watkins Media Limited The Intuition Journal: Nourishing daily rituals
Book SynopsisAt its core, intuition is the act of conscious listening – to our body, to the whispers of our heart, to the moments of inspired insight that come to us. This beautiful, understated journal has been specially designed to encourage you to 'listen' more, get to know yourself better and really explore and honour your most heartfelt wishes and desires. A brief introduction explores what intuition really means, the importance of rituals and the path that the journal will take you on. The rest of the journal is then divided into four sections: Preparing Sacred Ground, Nurturing the Seed, Evolving into Seedlings and Flourishing in Full Bloom. Each of these nature-inspired sections covers 13 weeks, with each week focusing on a particular aspect of intuition and growth, from recognizing what you need to let go of in life, to exploring both the light and shadow aspects of yourself, to envisaging what you feel most drawn to nurture. A combination of thought-provoking insights, playful interactive prompts, nourishing guided rituals and space for daily reflections allows users to both tune into intuitive moments and decide on intuitive actions. By spending time with the journal each day, readers will embark on a journey of continuous positive perspective shifts, not unlike a meditation practice, that will ultimately help them lead a more meaningful, purpose-filled life.
