Book SynopsisThe Dornier Do 17 was one of three Luftwaffe’s main bomber types early in the war. Designed as a passenger and mail plane, it ultimately proved true in the military version. Its last version, powered by Bramo 323 radial engines was the Do 17 Z. Based directly on Do 17 M airframe it had revised front fuselage section to improve the crew’s working conditions in the form of so-called „Waffenkopf” (armed head). A total of approximately 910 examples in several sub-variants, from Z-0 to Z-10 were built from early 1939 till mid-1940. These aircraft saw combat in Polish and French campaigns, Battle of Britain, Balkan operations, Russian campaign till 1942 and sporadically in the African campaign. The crews considered the Do 17 one of the most reliable aircraft and despite poor armor in their opinion it had good flight characteristics.Trade ReviewI am finding titles such as this of a real and practical benefit to me. This offering is a big plus for any modeller who has purchased any of the recent ICM Dornier aircraft offerings. * Armorama *This highly useful work from Kaegero shouldn't be missed…provides a host of great reference material. * Airfix Model World *

  • Smoke/Humo

    Turner Publicaciones, S.L. Smoke/Humo

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisA collaboration between photographer Adrian Tyler and the writer and photography historian Horacio Fernández, to make a photobook in which the text is inseparably integrated with the image. The photographs were taken in a disused cigarette factory, which was essentially a state-owned tobacco manufacturing and distribution cartel. The texts come from the cigarette advertising archive at Stanford University and Horatio's responses to the images and advertising slogans not only subvert the intention of the advertising but add new depth and new meaning to the work. "One day we felt we owed a debt to smoke. It had surrounded us for so long that we missed it. Humo Smoke is our way of settling the score. The images show the decline of an industry through the ruins of a tobacco factory. The words have been chosen from among the endless literature on smoke, especially the advertising slogans of the business, which promised pleasures as numerous as the drawbacks they kept silent. Humo Smoke is a written photobook because we think images are too poetic when there is nothing to read, and words too ambiguous when there is nothing to see. It is also a rather melancholy photobook, and consequently a little playful, as light and whimsical as smoke itself, which never lets itself be tied down. We dedicate it both to those who like spending the hours watching it sway back and forth, and to those who believe it casts the most evil shadow". Text in English and Spanish.

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisAs well as the application to food irradiation, nuclear techniques can be used in the detection of contaminants and the verification of the origins and authenticity of food. This publication presents the findings of a joint FAO/IAEA coordinated research project (CRP) on utilizing isotope and trace element analysis, and other complementary analytical techniques, to characterize the origin of authentic milk and dairy products sampled by the participating institutes. The purpose of the CRP was to develop a methodology to implement a sustainable system for the independent verification of the claimed origin of food. Questions concerning origin are among the first to be asked when a food safety incident arises. The results of the project described in this publication will assist Member States to better communicate the qualities and origin related attributes, or terroir, of different food commodities. In addition, verifying the origin of food can help to prevent fraud and thereby reduce barriers to trade and protect and promote added-value products with a strong regional or national identity.

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisGamma irradiation of food is a simple, reliable, and mature technology. However, more use of alternative irradiation technologies, based on electrically generated sources, would help complement the available capacity. Electron beams and X rays generated from electricity are technologies that avoid the procurement, transport, storage, disposal, and safeguarding issues associated with the use of radioisotopes. Arising from an IAEA coordinated research project, this publication reports on research to develop new tools in food irradiation and to rapidly ascertain treatment parameters before irradiation, including high energy (MeV) and low energy (keV) electron beam and X ray irradiation. Comparative studies of gamma, electron beam and X ray irradiation for food and phytosanitary uses are also presented.

United Nations Towards transformation of the development model

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisIn a regional and international context of weak growth, high inflation and growing inequality, the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean must focus policies on reactivating, rebuilding and transforming economic and production systems to advance towards low-carbon and high-tech economies that address climate change and reduce their historical gaps, structural heterogeneity and dualism. This document considers the complex conditions that pose significant challenges to accelerating growth, tackling high inflation and the cost-of-living crisis, maintaining transfers to the most vulnerable households, mitigating the social costs of the crisis and boosting investment. Its chapters analyse the dynamics of globalization and the policy challenges in changing the production structure and moving towards sustainable development. In addition, they consider strategies for reducing inequality and creating universal protection systems and decent jobs in a challenging world. Nine strategic sectors expected to drive a big push for sustainability are examined through the prism of green growth. The document concludes with policy recommendations for advancing towards a renewed model for inclusive and sustainable growth

Book SynopsisThis year's edition provides new estimates of the percentage of the world's food lost from production up to the retail level. It suggests that identifying and understanding critical loss points in specific supply chains – where considerable potential exists for reducing food losses – is crucial to deciding on appropriate measures. It also provides some guiding principles for interventions based on the objectives being pursued through food loss and waste reductions, be they in improved economic efficiency, food security and nutrition, or environmental sustainability.
