  • What Happens in Tomorrow World?: A Modern-Day

BenBella Books What Happens in Tomorrow World?: A Modern-Day

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisBestselling author and TEDx speaker Jordan Gross's What Happens in Tomorrow World? offers a poignant, relatable, and necessary parable for navigating uncertainty. What Happens in Tomorrow World? tells the story of Opti, Pessi, Chill, and Sage—four prizes found in a traditional arcade claw machine game, and what happens when one special player, Cayla "Catch" Alltoys, plays their game. As Catch maneuvers the claw over, down, and around them, the four prizes face their own crisis—the possibility of what will happen when they are removed from their safe environment and thrust into the unknown "real" world. Each prize reacts in one of the four typical responses most people have to facing uncertain situations. And it is through those reactions, and subsequent actions, that they—and we—learn how our own responses to uncertainty can either help or harm ourselves, those around us, and society as a whole. An urgently needed guide for managing the anxiety and ambiguity in our daily lives, this book will help readers thrive in challenging situations. Through this memorable story, you'll learn: • How to embrace uncertainty in all parts of life • Why no single response to uncertainty works for every situation • How various personality types typically respond differently to uncertainty • Why it's crucial to resist responding negatively to uncertainty • Why it's important to take action, no matter how uncertain you feel In the spirit of Spencer Johnson's Who Moved My Cheese? presents a modern, unique, and useful toolbox for confronting and managing the overwhelming amount of uncertainty we face every day.Trade Review“A fun to read, delightful, and most definitely wisdom-filled story! Once I began . . . just couldn’t put it down. So many wonderful life lessons, including mentorship that might just be some of the most profound I’ve ever read.”—Bob Burg, coauthor of the Go-Giver series“If you're looking for an empowering, purposeful, and heartwarming read, you'll love this story . . . The four friends—Sage, Opti, Pessi, and Chill—helped me better understand my own behavior during challenging times. You'll relearn some fundamental lessons and discover how to deal with uncertainties—no matter how unexpected they are.”—Sinem Günel, entrepreneur, mentor, and fifteen-time top writer on Medium.com“What Happens in Tomorrow World is a creative, entertaining, and engaging fable that teaches you how to inspire each other and work together even when there is a gap in perspectives and opinions. I encourage you to savor each chapter, examine yourself, adhere to Sage’s wisdom, and become your very best right where you are.”—David Cottrell, author of Monday Morning Leadership and Quit Drifting, Lift the Fog, and Get Lucky“A delightful parable with an important lesson for us all: ‘I don’t know what’s going to happen. If I win, I win. If I lose, I lose. But, no matter what, I learn, I learn.’ Life is about learning, and we don’t always win; it’s the journey that matters.” —Chester Elton, bestselling coauthor of The Carrot Principle and Leading with Gratitude and The Apostle of Appreciation

  • Deepening Wisdom, Deepening Connection

Namchak Publishing Deepening Wisdom, Deepening Connection

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisAward-winning author Lama Tsomo provides insights and practices to enrich our relationships, be mindfully and joyfully present in the world, and deepen our understanding of ourselves. The tide of modern life is sweeping us even further into isolation—away from each other, from the world, from ourselves. To turn this tide, Lama Tsomo has created the latest addition to her Ancient Wisdom for Our Times series: Deepening Wisdom, Deepening Connection. Building on the ideas and practices in the first two books—Why Bother: An Introduction and Wisdom Compassion (Starting with Yourself)—this new volume actively engages readers, expanding our understanding and guiding our practice in the several key areas. The Four Boundless Qualities. Loving Kindness, Compassion, Sympathetic Joy, and Equanimity are not lofty, abstract sentiments. They are practical capacities that we can all cultivate for the benefit, as Buddhists say, of ourselves and others. Lama Tsomo teaches us how.Forgiveness. This is essential to our inner well-being—if we want to move on in our lives, and to move closer to others, we must be able to forgive. Resentment is the most destructive form of stress. As someone once said, hanging on to resentment is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. Deepening Wisdom, Deepening Connection shows us that we don’t need to forget to forgive.Near Enemies. Lama Tsomo’s explanation of the Buddhist concept of “near enemies” is a true eye-opener: she explains how we can stop fooling ourselves into thinking some of our shortcomings are actually virtues. Sublime Insight. Her patient guidance into the principles and practice of Vipassana (Sublime Insight) offers us ways to experience reality in its complexity and simplicity. (Buddhism was thousands of years ahead of quantum physics on this one.) You’ll never see the world, or yourself, the same way again.Written with the conversational clarity and generous dashes of humor she’s brought to her retreats at the Namchak Retreat Ranch and award-winning titles such as Why Is the Dalai Lama Always Smiling? and The Lotus and the Rose, Lama Tsomo’s latest is the culmination of decades of deep practice and scholarly inquiry, filled with real-world examples, beautiful illustrations, practice cards, and links to online support. Deepening Wisdom, Deepening Connection is an authentic guide to compassionate awareness and a salve against a growingly disconnected world.Trade Review“In the most recent installment of Ancient Wisdom for Our Times, Lama Tsomo shares her experience with the deep practices of Tibetan Buddhism. She writes with clarity, humor, and with practical support to guide us to a better and more fulfilled life. It feels like being given a gift to read Deepening Wisdom, Deepening Connection and an invitation to slow down to experience life.” – Sharon Salzberg, author of Lovingkindness and Real Change“I have no doubt that Western readers who wish to deepen their understanding of Tibetan Buddhist practices will find much to interest them here, and that members of other faiths, or even those who have none, will enjoy this sincere account of spiritual exploration.” – From the Foreword, by His Holiness The Dalai Lama XIV“Lama Tsomo gives me new ways to summon calm and equanimity in a sea of storms in the world through various meditation techniques. From her to me, from me to you, from you to the universe with each breath. The world is better." – Huey-Min Chuang, student of Lama Tsomo and Learning Circle member“I wouldn’t be where I am today with my meditation practice if it weren’t for Lama Tsomo. Her ability to take these Eastern practices and make them feel relatable to Westerners is incredible. Not only does she make you feel welcome, she makes you feel at home. If I could recommend one teacher to learn from, it would be her.” – Joe Previte, student of Lama Tsomo and former Community Advisor

This study offers the truths needed to lead others from darkness into the light as they seek a life free from the bondage of abuse. In this Bible study, we team up with scripture to bring biblical truth to these issues of the heart: What lies of the enemy have I believed about who I am? What truths are found in the Word of God about abuse? How can Jesus possibly understand my abuse? How do I avoid another abusive relationship? Is forgiveness a part of healing? This isn’t an easy journey. but it will be worth it. To walk alongside those who have suffered is to walk alongside Christ.

  • Sacred Cow: The Case for (Better) Meat: Why

BenBella Books Sacred Cow: The Case for (Better) Meat: Why

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisPUBLISHERS WEEKLY BESTSELLERWe're told that if we care about our health—or our planet—eliminating red meat from our diets is crucial. That beef is bad for us and cattle farming is horrible for the environment. But science says otherwise. Beef is framed as the most environmentally destructive and least healthy of meats. We're often told that the only solution is to reduce or quit red meat entirely. But despite what anti-meat groups, vegan celebrities, and some health experts say, plant-based agriculture is far from a perfect solution. In Sacred Cow, registered dietitian Diana Rodgers and former research biochemist and New York Times bestselling author Robb Wolf explore the quandaries we face in raising and eating animals—focusing on the largest (and most maligned) of farmed animals, the cow. Taking a critical look at the assumptions and misinformation about meat, Sacred Cow points out the flaws in our current food system and in the proposed "solutions." Inside, Rodgers and Wolf reveal contrarian but science-based findings, such as: • Meat and animal fat are essential for our bodies. • A sustainable food system cannot exist without animals. • A vegan diet may destroy more life than sustainable cattle farming. • Regenerative cattle ranching is one of our best tools at mitigating climate change. You'll also find practical guidance on how to support sustainable farms and a 30-day challenge to help you transition to a healthful and conscientious diet. With scientific rigor, deep compassion, and wit, Rodgers and Wolf argue unequivocally that meat (done right) should have a place on the table. It's not the cow, it's the how!Trade Review"Sacred Cow proposes a new way to look at sustainable diets. The book takes a deep dive into the nutritional claims against meat, why cattle raised well are actually good for the environment, and address the ethical considerations surrounding killing animals for food. The truth is, you cannot have life without death, and eliminating animals from our food system could cause more harm than good." —Michelle Tam, New York Times bestselling author of Nom Nom Paleo "All too often, the voices making the least scientifically accurate claims are the loudest, and it's hard not to be influenced by that sexy Netflix documentary on going vegan. But what if you could do both—eat the animal products that you believe help you feel your best, sourced via farming practices that support the environment and animal welfare? In Sacred Cow, dietitian Diana Rodgers and New York Times bestselling author Robb Wolf help you do just that, with scientific rigor, deep compassion, and wit. They examine the data on cattle and nutrient-density, the environment, and the ethics around eating meat across the globe, arriving at conclusions designed to help you feel good about the beef you are feeding your family."—Melissa Urban, Whole30 cofounder and CEO "Diana and Robb have answered the burning question about meat. Sacred Cow proves ‘It's not the COW, it's the HOW.' The answer to our broken food system is not no meat, it's better meat. If you are concerned about red meat's impact on your health and the planet, this book is for you." —Mark Hyman, MD, Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine "Diana and Robb have precisely and approachably laid out the science on how grazing animals are critical to the future of sustainable agriculture. They also definitively refute the claims that meat is unhealthy and make a convincing case that eating meat can be done in an ethical manner. I highly recommend Sacred Cow for anyone who eats." —Mark Sisson, New York Times bestselling author of The Keto Reset Diet and founder of Primal Kitchen foods "Humans have been eating meat for at least 2.6 million years, and it has played a critical role in our evolution. In this important book, Diana Rodgers and Robb Wolf use the most recent scientific evidence to make the nutritional, environmental, and ethical case for better meat—and to debunk increasingly common myths and misunderstandings about the role of animal products in our diet." —Chris Kresser, New York Times bestselling author of The Paleo Cure and Unconventional Medicine "Sacred Cow: The Case for Better Meat is a comprehensive, well documented treatise that provides us with all the scientific data we need to make informed choices about how to eat that will benefit BOTH ourselves and our planet!" —Frederick Kirschenmann, PhD, Distinguished Fellow at the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture at Iowa State University "Abandoning animal agriculture might well be the greatest mistake humanity could ever make. Today's science cannot give definitive answers to the complex questions of human nutrition and ecological integrity. However, the scientific evidence indicting animal agriculture is weak, and evidence defending animal-based foods and farm animals as essential for human health and agricultural sustainability is strong—as clearly documented in Sacred Cow." —John Ikerd, PhD, professor emeritus of agricultural economics at the University of Missouri "The current war against meat eaters and livestock farmers promises ethical, ecological, and health benefits from fake lab meat and plant-only diets. Sacred Cow debunks every utopian promise with precision missiles from science and a deep understanding of how life and the planet actually work." —Joel Salatin, owner of Polyface Farm and editor of The Stockman Grass Farmer "The shift in agriculture, from one based on biology to one based on chemistry, and the resulting shift in our diets from whole foods to highly processed foods have resulted in nutrition-related disease, obesity, and environmental destruction. Diana and Robb fully understand the problem and the solution: we must change our diets and regenerate our soils, and well-managed grazing animals are critical to this transition." —Allan Savory, president of Savory Institute and chairman of the Africa Center for Holistic Management "So much of the confusion about creating a sustainable future is based on a misunderstanding of ecology, evolution, and our place within the natural world. Much of our confusion has to do with our increasing separation from nature, especially how our food is produced. This book clearly explains how it all fits together, and how the interwoven evolution of ruminants, grasslands, and homo sapiens is not something to be left in the past, but to be celebrated and reclaimed." —Mark A. Ritchie, PhD, executive director of the International Sustainable Development Studies Institute "Diana and Robb have written a tour de force making the case that meat can be good for our bodies, the animals, and the earth. Sacred Cow is the antidote to miserably meatless mondays and impossibly impotent impossible burgers. The cure is an ethical approach to eating animals, giving them their rightful place in our ecology." —Chris Masterjohn, PhD, former assistant professor of Health and Nutrition Sciences at Brooklyn College

  • The Power of Belonging: How to Develop Safety,

Business Expert Press The Power of Belonging: How to Develop Safety,

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisThe aim of book and my research study is to explore and understand how belonging is perceived in organisations and in life. As a British born, Asian now living in Switzerland, I am mindful of how my own understanding of belonging derives from a combination of my South- East Asian culture as well my British and Swiss influences. My curiosity about belonging was instigated within the perspective of a personal context; being a child of Punjabi immigrants who moved to the UK in 1955 and then my move to Geneva in 1992. Subsequently, my professional work in several global organisations as a Diversity and Inclusion trainer and advisor strengthened my interest, that the longing for belonging element exists in organisations too. It was during my Diversity and Inclusion workshops that I witnessed a lack of examination and consideration of how important the role of belonging is in organisations. These were my informal focus groups and consequently contributed to my choice of questions in the interviews. I wanted to hear the stories what do these people want to tell us. And how does that in turn, impact organizational culture, collective behaviour and can we transform the findings into practical organizational policies and processes.

Book SynopsisWe know that video games keep people engaged for hours on end, and research indicates that this is due, in good part, to player agency. That is, the ability for the person playing the game to make significant choices that have consequences to the outcome of the game. How can this idea be replicated in the classroom? While Agency feels like a new buzzword in education, it has been around since the 5th Century, BCE. What does it really mean? Why does it matter? How has it changed (and stayed the same) throughout all these centuries? Why is it important to nurture it, and how can we do that while still developing the skills necessary to achieve on high stakes tests? And to what extent is this idea more important for gifted students? This book is for any educator or parent who is hoping to understand the concept of agency as well as explore strategies to inspire and invigorate their most complex learners to become the best version of themselves.
