Der Sammelband leistet einen Beitrag dazu, diese Forschungslücke zu füllen und untersucht Predigten und ebenso Lieder der Jahre 1914 bis 1918 in historischer und theologischer Perspektive. Evangelische Predigten des Elsass rücken in den Forschungsfokus, der durch die Einbeziehung von Kriegspredigten aus Deutschland sowie aus dem katholischen und dem anglikanischen Bereich ergänzt wird. Kriegspredigten wurden nicht nur an der Front, sondern auch in der Heimat gehalten. Dabei lassen sich länder- und konfessionsübergreifende Ähnlichkeiten in Theologie und Diktion aufzeigen, während Unterschiede vor allem im Bereich der Geschichtsdeutung und der Verhandlung konfessionsspezifischer Themen zu erkennen sind.
