Jahrhundert gültigen Lehrkanons der Volkswirtschaftslehre. Mit seiner Berufung nach Freiburg war Max Weber auch verpflichtet, eine Vorlesung über Finanzwissenschaft zu halten. Dies tat er 1894/95 und 1896/97. Mit dem vorliegenden Band kann die wissenschaftliche Öffentlichkeit erstmals anhand der handschriftlichen Notizen, die Weber nur als Gedächtnisstütze für den freien Vortrag niederschrieb, nachvollziehen, in welcher Weise und mit welchen Schwerpunkten er seine Lehraufgabe auf diesem ihm fremden Gebiet meisterte. Die Editoren versuchen, den intendierten Gedankengang des Autors zuverlässig zu rekonstruieren und herauszufinden, an welchen Stellen er den bekannten Lehrstoff lediglich rezipierte und wo bereits eigene, auf die spätere Herrschaftssoziologie und Sozialökonomik hindeutende Gedanken aufleuchten. Methodisch blieb Weber in der Darstellung der Realgeschichte der öffentlichen Finanzen dem Credo der historischen Schule verpflichtet, während er sich im Gegensatz zu den Meistern des Fachs, Lorenz von Stein und Adolph Wagner, mit theoretischen Überlegungen zurückhielt. Offenbar wollte er den Hörern vorrangig nützliche Kenntnisse für ihre künftige Tätigkeit in Staat und Verwaltung vermitteln.

Book SynopsisIm Jahr 1920 begann Max Weber seine auf vier Bände geplanten Gesammelten Aufsätze zur Religionssoziologie zu veröffentlichen. Den ersten Band leitete er mit einer "Vorbemerkung" für die gesamte Serie ein und ließ darauf seine überarbeiteten Aufsätze über die Kulturbedeutung des asketischen Protestantismus folgen, die ursprünglich in den Jahren 1904 bis 1906 erschienen waren. Während er den Sektenaufsatz von 1906 von Grund auf umschrieb, hielt er an dem Text "Die protestantische Ethik und der 'Geist' des Kapitalismus" von 1904/05 fest, veränderte ihn aber an vielen Stellen, so dass man 1920 von einer zweiten Fassung sprechen muss. In der Studienausgabe werden diese drei Texte aus MWG I/18 übernommen. Die Veränderungen, die Weber an der ersten Fassung seiner Studie von 1904/05 vornahm, sind durch eine besondere Schrifttype kenntlich gemacht. Zusätzlich bietet die Studienausgabe sechs Texte aus MWG I/9, die im Zusammenhang mit der ersten Fassung der Studie von 1904/05 stehen, von Weber aber nicht in den Band I seiner Gesammelten Aufsätze zur Religionssoziologie aufgenommen wurden.
