White Star My First Book of Feelings: Montessori: A World of

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisThe idea behind the boardbook collection was to attract even the youngest readers (from as young as 3 years old); to encourage them to discover subjects and areas that interest them (nature, animals, shapes, etc.) and to help them classify the things that surround them. The series is comprised of ten little books. Two are instructive, teaching shapes and numbers; five are exploratory and describe settings that are fun to discover (farm animals, wild animals, the backyard and its insects, the vegetable garden) and three are short stories about the experience of birth in nature (the birth of a little bird, of a butterfly and of a flower). Narration becomes the background for the text since touching and picture reading are the primary means of interpretation. A guiding character accompanies the child throughout each developing story until the end, where there is a summary of all the characters introduced in the book. Consistent with the Montessori approach, the child is encouraged to interact independently with his or her book. For example, in some cases, the child is asked to use a finger to trace the outline of a shape and notice its characteristics (round, sharp-edged, jagged, etc.). In others, he or she is asked to use a finger to follow a path in order to discover hidden characters and learn to associate them with their most distinctive features (the lion's tail, the rabbit's ears, the colours of vegetables, etc.). • A House Board Book

HarperCollins Publishers Inc A House Board Book

    2 in stock

Book SynopsisTrade Review“Simple text invites viewers to consider images of a house . . . Henkes’ familiar stealthy craftsmanship is on display as the story structure creates a rhythm that breaks up into happy surprise and new patterns . . . Viewers will . . . appreciate the blossoming (including literal blossoms) of a house into a home.” — Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books (starred review) “We see the house in the morning, at night, with the sun, with the moon, in rain and snow, and more. Henkes uses the question-and-answer format to invite readers into the story, and the questions prompt discussions about concepts such as shapes, the passage of time, counting, weather, colors, and size differences. . . . The style conveys Henkes’s (2020 winner of the Children’s Literature Legacy Award) signature elegance; and the ending will have children pondering precisely what makes a ‘house’ a ‘home.’ Brilliant.” — Horn Book (starred review) “This story follows a house that undergoes a transformation. . . . There is a shift that is subtle but sacred; the house becomes ‘home.’. . . Henkes continues to whittle away all but the essentials in his life lessons for preschoolers, and the result is accessible and resonant.” — School Library Journal (starred review) “Young children are in safe hands when they open a book by Kevin Henkes . . . A House pairs clean-lined, sherbet-colored illustrations with mild questions and observations . . . With the addition of people ‘a house’ becomes ‘a home’ in this enchantingly simple picture book.” — Wall Street Journal “Eschewing a more traditional story arc in this volume, Henkes creates multiple images of a dwelling—a tiny, boxlike structure with a pink tiled roof, a round window, and a blue chimney—and offers a series of questions about them. . . . The questions suggest how much there is to observe about the very simplest things . . . The limited scope of this world—the house, the single-frame storms, even the simply rendered dog and cat—adds further charm to this bite-size creation that’s rooted in noticing.” — Publishers Weekly “When does a house become a home? . . . Caldecott and Legacy winner Henkes has put together a charmingly and deceptively simple interactive book that helps young readers identify shapes, delve into the concept of counting, and recognize meteorological phenomena. . . A sweet mindfulness exercise.” — Kirkus Reviews "Invites readers to actively participate in the story, presenting questions about colors and shapes, which quickly become more complex considerations about the locations of objects, visual action elements, time of day, and size comparisons. . . . What started as a fun, interactive visual exercise ends up with a gentle message about family and what truly makes a house a home.” — Booklist

Book SynopsisOur God introduces children to the some of the many ways the Lord is described in the Bible—as our rock, the bread of life, the bright morning star, and more, as they also learn basic shapes in this creative and colorful book. Trade Review“I’m a huge (full-grown) believer in the Baby Believer series. We know the Word of God does not return void. These books provide a wise, winsome, and creative way to begin sowing the seeds of biblical truth into the hearts and souls of our children. When the core concepts of the Christian proclamation are sown into us from an early age, those seeds will bear their fruit in the right season.”—Timothy Dalrymple, president and CEO of Christianity Today“Catechesis begins very early in life. The hearts and minds of our kids are being shaped by the media, models, and voices around them—for better or worse. Christian parents should try to surround their kids with resources for healthy spiritual formation. That’s why I love the Baby Believer® series from Catechesis Books. It’s never too early to teach theology to little ones!”—Brett McCracken, senior editor at The Gospel Coalition, author of The Wisdom Pyramid: Feeding Your Soul in a Post-Truth World“The Baby Believer series offers big theological truths to little hearts in a beautiful and simple way. They make great gifts for new moms!”—Emily Jensen and Laura Wifler, cofounders of Risen Motherhood
