Momentum Press Diseases Caused by Dietary Problems
Book SynopsisThe importance of meeting the dietary needs of individuals is critical for good health. This requires educating individuals so that they understand how to best obtain important nutrients and that quality foods rich in these nutrients are accessible to the increasing world population. Many diseases can arise from nutrient deficiencies and toxicities, including rickets, scurvy, and spina bifida, resulting from deficiencies in vitamins D, C, and B, respectively. It is also possible to ingest materials in the diet that can cause disease, such as lead, which results in lead poisoning. In each case, the imbalance of appropriate nutrients leads to an imbalance of vitamin and minerals, causing defects in critical enzyme function in the body. In some cases, the uptake of nutrients is healthy, but the body is unable to breakdown or utilize the nutrients. In each of these instances, disease initiation or progression is preventable through control of diet. Symptoms will be discussed as they impact normal cellular and organ function in the body and are related to nutrient availability. This book will evaluate the prospects for improved preventative approaches and treatments for established diseases and will conclude with a summary and points toward future prevention of these diseases.

Momentum Press Working Together in Clinical Supervision: A Guide for Supervisors and Supervisees
Book SynopsisThis brief, practical guide to clinical supervision uniquely addresses supervisor and supervisee together. The purpose of the book is to help the supervisory dyad collaborate effectively to meet the goals of supervision: to ensure client welfare, educate and evaluate the supervisee, and help the supervisee cope with the emotional challenges of doing psychotherapy. To do so, the book provides guidance on how to implement evidence-based and best-practice recommendations at each stage of supervision: preparation, beginning, middle, conclusion of active supervision, and the post supervision relationship. The emphasis throughout is on developing and maintaining a positive, collaborative supervisory relationship. Establishing this requires that the members of the dyad understand and agree on their respective roles and responsibilities, trust each other to carry them out, and feel safe enough to discuss the process. This book facilitates this by describing these complementary roles and responsibilities, and by providing activities that help the dyad establish mutual understanding, set goals, and complete necessary tasks. The book also illustrates better and worse ways these roles can be fulfilled from the author's experience. Other value-added features include sections devoted to: common problems in supervision and how to prevent or manage them, the competencies that supervisors and supervisees require to be prepared for their roles, how to incorporate diversity into supervision, and how to complete supervision contracts and evaluations. Written in an inviting, often conversational, tone the book is an invaluable aid to supervisors and supervisees of all levels of experience.

Momentum Press Developing Interprofessional Competencies in Professional Psychology: A Practical Guide
Book SynopsisInterprofessional collaboration is an expectation for practicing psychologists, yet few psychologists are trained in collaboration competencies. Drawing from the literature, this book presents a model for incorporating interprofessional education (IPE) into graduate training programs and continuing education for professional psychology. There are separate chapters for each stage of professional development focused on different learning environments, including classroom settings, practica and internship, and postregistration psychology practice, with specific activities for use with students and supervisees or in practice. Each chapter has corresponding suggestions for learner assessment and program evaluation, making this an indispensable resource for training programs, supervisors, and practicing psychologists.

Momentum Press Nutrition, Health, and Disease: A Holistic View
Book SynopsisThe association between nutrition and health and many diseases comes from the Chinese holistic view of the human health. This book is about the crucial and sometimes confusing role of nutrition in relation to human health and diseases. This book, the second in a mini-series, will be suitable for a nutritional or an epidemiology course, as well as for people who wish to take back control of their nutrition and health (rather than staying surrendered to the whims of the food industry). Guidance is often needed when seeking to make dietary improvements given the complex minefield of modern nutrition (food production and supply) and an environment that is increasingly less healthy. Topics covered include dengue fever, Alzheimer's disease, cancers, obesity, meat consumption, sugar consumption.

Momentum Press Nutrition, Health, and Disease: A Guide to Modern Living
Book SynopsisA Guide to Modern Living is an essential read for everyone. Nutrition is so tightly linked to the environment, which is rapidly deteriorating from contaminants, etc., mainly due to human activity. The author's objectives in this series of books is to help educate those who are unaware of how critical our food choices are, and how detrimental it can be to our health when we don't eat properly-specifically the link between poor nutrition and chronic disease. The aim is for everyone in the world to live a more healthy life via improved nutritional knowledge. This book, like the two preceding ones, explains the confusing role of nutrition in human health and diseases. It is suitable for a nutritional or an epidemiology course, as well as for anyone who desires to learn more about the nutritional and health values of food. Topics covered include hypertension, traditional salted foods, cancers, sugar consumption, Zika, and microcephaly.

Momentum Press Nutrition, Health, and Disease: Food, Diet, and Community
Book SynopsisThe author relates his holistic view of human health within this text. Holistic health has existed for many years in China as well as India, two great Asian civilizations that continue to this day. There is advocacy for the ordinary person to take back control of their daily nutrition and their overall health. Since some of the practices of Big Agriculture and Big Foods seem to be in contradiction to personal health, people need updated guidelines to lead them out of the quagmire that is the food market. This book, the fifth in a mini-series, will be suitable for a nutritional or an epidemiology course, as well as for the general consumer, who desperately needs guidance, especially those of us in the industrialized western nations. Topics covered include consumption of healthy fats, freezing, and salting of foods, hot chili peppers, as well as topics involving aggression, diabetes, and ADHD.
