Book SynopsisThe olfactory journey described in this book introduces readers to the pleasures and benefits of educating and training the 'nose', our olfactory palate. Jennifer Peace Rhind explores the process of cultivating our sense of smell and demonstrates how the process itself can be therapeutic and enjoyable, as well as informative. She highlights the different skills involved, from olfactory vocabulary, awareness, and memory, through to discrimination and fragrance creation, and the activities that can help to acquire them, emphasizing the value of experiential learning. She describes the Japanese art of koh-do or the 'way of incense' and suggests ways of creating group events inspired by this. Based on her twenty five years' experience working with essential oils and aromatic plant extracts, she also leads the reader through a variety of scent families, with information on the botanical source, odour profiles, olfactory notes, and suggestions for comparison with other scents. This method of educating and training the 'nose' is fascinating, challenging and life-enhancing and will be of interest to anyone eager to develop their sense of smell, and of incalculable use to aromatherapy students and practitioners who must acquire these skills for their career.Trade ReviewListening to Scent is set to become the must-have reference book at a time when the sense of smell has only started being explored. Jennifer details a step-by-step approach of how one should train the 'olfactory memory' and presents a comprehensive description of the odorscape and the associated raw materials in a way that is accessible to all. Her description of the application of scents in Japanese culture and the natural and culinary worlds adds to the excitement of reading this beautifully written book on one of the most important senses in our lives! -- Isabelle Gellé, Perfumer and Founder and Principal of The Perfumery Art School, UKNatural perfume is the key for those who love fragrances but have not yet encountered the world of aromatherapy. Aromatherapy opens doors to enjoying the benefits of natural aromatic raw materials: essential oils. • Chinese Medical Qigong

Jessica Kingsley Publishers Chinese Medical Qigong

    15 in stock

Book SynopsisBased on the latest edition of the approved textbook on Medical Qigong used in Chinese universities, this authoritative paperback edition has been completely revised and edited to meet the needs of western practitioners. The editors emphasize the practice of Qigong, and this section of the book has been revised and expanded; a wide range of Qigong forms are presented, taking full account of the history, correct practice, and development of Qigong. The section on the clinical applications of Qigong in the treatment of a wide range of conditions, with the recommended Qigong forms for treatment, and relevant references to the ancient texts has been substantially revised, and focuses on conditions more common in the West. The book also presents the newest research on Medical Qigong, including groundbreaking new discoveries about the physiological and psychological mechanisms. Omitted from this paperback edition are the extensive excerpts from the ancient texts, and the detailed history, more appropriate for academic study. This is an unparalleled resource for practitioners of Qigong and Chinese medicine, as well as medical students and other healthcare professionals seeking a better understanding of the theory, practice and beneficial health applications of Medical Qigong.Trade ReviewPraise for the hardback edition:'This is the first English translation of this ancient art of Chinese medicine. It is a must read for Traditional Chinese Medical Practitioners as it allows the traditional principles of qigong to be related to current scientific evidence. The book was generally an excellent read, being a great introduction to the practice of Qigong for both experienced and non-experienced TCM practitioners... as a sole English reference book in the practice of Qigong it makes an excellent reference text for any traditional Chinese medical practitioner... Personally, I found this book an excellent read as a practitioner of a more Western approach of acupuncture. It presented itself very well at demonstrating the approach of Qigong to many typically "Western" diagnoses, which I found useful as a mainly non-TCM practitioner. Overall, Chinese Medical Qigong is an excellent reference text in the TCM practice of Qigong a vital read for any practitioner.' -- JAACP (The Journal of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists)This is a landmark work in the field of medical qigong... The book provides a great overview of qigong theory, research and practice for anyone who is interested in qigong therapy. -- qigonghealing.co.ukChinese Medical Qigong is the definitive work on this ancient medical system for the English-speaking world. It is an important addition to our understanding of the contribution of Chinese culture, tradition, and science to the art of healing. -- Larry Dossey, M.D., author of Healing Words and The Power of PremonitionsThis is a long-needed and must-read book about the history, science, and practice of Chinese Medical Qigong. Clearly written, comprehensive, and visionary in scope. -- Gary E. Schwartz, Ph.D., Professor of Psychology, Medicine, Neurology, Psychiatry, and Surgery, The University of Arizona, and author of The Energy Healing ExperimentsChinese Medical Qigong is one of the most comprehensive English texts to be published on this subject to date. An important reference for anyone interested in medical Qigong. -- Adam Perlman, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P., Endowed Professor of Complementary and Alternative Medicine, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New JerseyThis volume is an unparalleled presentation of current theory, research and practice in medical Qigong in China today. It will appeal to anyone interested in use of Qigong to promote health and wellness. -- Donald D. Davis, Ph.D., Old Dominion University, VA, and Tidewater Tai Chi CenterThis is an important book, one that has the potential to bring Qigong into the clinical and research limelight in the U.S. so that this wonderful and ancient healing practice can be better understood scientifically. The history, concepts, and practical applications of Qigong are presented thoroughly and systematically. The book illuminates not only Qigong, but also sheds light on all of Traditional Chinese Medicine and deserves a wide readership among clinicians, researchers, acupuncturists, and all others working the field of integrative medicine. -- Elizabeth R. Mackenzie, Ph.D., Lecturer, History and Sociology of Science, School of Arts and Sciences, University of PennsylvaniaThere are very few texts on the instruction of Qigong that address both the art and science of this form of movement meditation and therapy. Chinese Medical Qigong does both in a clearly documented and organized manner and does it well. The first English translation of the "only official textbook of medical Qigong utilized in TCM universities in China" does not suffer from translation but, rather, guides the reader through such diverse topics as Qigong history, theory, forms, research, and clinical application. Designed as a pedagogical tool, each section ends with a series of thought-provoking "Questions for Review," allowing the reader to reflect on and absorb the content... It is likely to become the "go-to" textbook in any medical program that includes Qi-based therapies or self-care. -- Bonnie Povolny, LAc - The American AcupunteristThe content of this book is extensive and all inclusive. It consists of fundamental theories, practical methods and skills, clinical applications of Chi Gong therapy, classical Chi Gong literature, and many other more. This textbook will be a useful tool for medical students and health care professionals who are interested in complementary and alternative therapies. It will also be an important resource book for anyone who practices mind-body exercise (i.e. Tai Chi and Chi Gong). -- Violet Li - St. Louis ExaminerThis is a monumental work, put together by a host of editors from many Chinese medicine colleges in China as well as some prominent qigong teachers from the U.S. such as Kenneth Cohen and Roger Jahnke... Medical qigong is just becoming more well-known in the West and this book is a welcome and valuable addition to this exciting field. -- The Empty VesselWhat the wealth of material in this book should do is destroy a common idea that a weekend course in qigong is enough to qualify someone in its mastery... A worthwhile addition to any practitioner's collection. -- Ejom.It is easy to read, difficult to put down and flows smoothly through each section... the book is primarily about applying qigong forms therapeutically. The editors have brought together much of the vast panoply of qigong styles and systematically structured the information into sections that are logical and easily assimilated... it is good to find tangible, quotable evidence of major phsyiological effects (...) confirming the experiental knowledge that regular qigong practitioners will already have. For anyone intent on finding funding from a constatnly reducing health budget, this proof is essential. -- Kim Lovelace, teacher of shiatsu and qigong * Caduceus *Chinese Medical Qigong is a very comprehensive overview of the area of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). It is based on the latest edition of the approved textbook used in Chinese universities. The contributors cover all aspects of this type of treatment, discussing its fundamental concepts and the development of its various forms, touching on some modern research theories that involve the technique, providing full descriptions of its applications, and finally, giving precise instructions on its uses in the treatment of many illnesses that are recognized by Western medicine. Being derived from a Chinese text, the book is very much written from the TCM perspective, but the contributors continually reference Western medicine, making it readable for practitioners who employ either approach to acupuncture... I would recommend Chinese Medical Qigong as an accompanying text for the practitioner of this approach to treatment, and also as a good starting point for anyone interested in finding out more about qigong or even training to use it. The text is readable, the layout of the book clear and the information is well presented. -- Melanie Hunter, Book Review Editor * Journal of Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists *Table of ContentsForeword. Book SynopsisBiochemical imbalances caused by nutritional deficiencies are a contributory factor in chronic illnesses such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, auto-immune conditions and cancer. This handbook for practitioners explains how to identify and treat such biochemical imbalances in order to better understand and manage a patient's ill-health.The book examines a range of biochemical imbalances, including compromised adrenal or thyroid function, gastro-intestinal imbalances, immune system problems and sex hormone imbalances, and explains how and why such states occur. It pulls together a wide range of evidence to show how such imbalances are involved in the most common chronic diseases. It helps practitioners to understand how to identify the imbalances through appropriate case history taking and laboratory testing, and how to design and implement effective nutritional interventions. Developed by leading academics and practitioners in the fields of nutritional therapy and functional medicine, this evidence-informed approach can be used with all patients who present in clinic, regardless of whether or not they have a 'named medical condition'. In the final chapter, a case example illustrates how to use the theoretical information in the practice of treating patients with chronically compromised health. Biochemical Imbalances in Disease is an essential text for nutritional therapy practitioners, as well as for students, and will be welcomed by complementary and conventional healthcare practitioners alike.Trade Reviewif, on the other hand, you are interested in revising your biochemistry and physiology and looking critically at the evidence and possibilities for individualised nutritional interventions to optimise health then here you have a valuable source of reference to use to extend and inform your practice. -- Journal of Herbal MedicineBiochemical Imbalances in Disease will prove to be an important publication that adds to the expanding body of literature about functional medicine (FM)....The authors' careful explanations in this volume illustrate how clinical practice, coupled with skills learned through rigorous training in FM, can successfully bring to the therapeutic relationship real patient-centred answers for chronic, complex illnesses. -- from the Foreword by David S. • Understanding Healing: Meditative Reflections on

Rudolf Steiner Press Understanding Healing: Meditative Reflections on

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisRudolf Steiner's third great lecture course to physicians has a completely different character to his previous presentations. Delivered in response to a group of young doctors - who approached Steiner with the specific request for a course that would be 'quite intimate', but should not contain anything ' - which appealed only to knowledge and the intellect' - it offers unique, groundbreaking insights into the practice and art of healing. Steiner speaks about the influence of cosmic and earthly forces - the periphery and centre - on the human being. Proper understanding of these processes enables the physician to comprehend the actions of plants and minerals used in anthroposophic medicines, and thus to prescribe appropriate and individually specific remedies. Steiner paints a picture of the human being as a complex confluence of the forces of heredity, forces from the cosmos, and an individual's unique spiritual nature. The physician has to understand these relationships in order to be able to help effectively when they are out of balance. Steiner stresses the importance of personal development for physicians, and offers plentiful instructions for a meditative practice intrinsic to their work. Among a wealth of other topics, Steiner addresses inflammation and excessive growth; the nature of scarlet fever and measles; the importance of a child's food and breast milk; the functions of the liver, heart, head and skeleton; the incarnation process; karma as a guide for the physician; morality as a force streaming in from the cosmos; the cosmic trinity of Saturn, Sun and Moon in the healthy and sick human being; and the involvement of the heart in thinking. Included here are Rudolf Steiner's answers to questions, and the first newsletter from the Medical Section, with a key meditation for physicians. This volume also features 18 full colour plates of Rudolf Steiner's blackboard drawings, a comprehensive introduction, index and notes.Table of ContentsThirteen lectures and a meeting held in Dornach between January and April 1924; first Newsletter of the Medical Section, March 1924

Book SynopsisReiki is an ancient and profoundly simple system of “laying on of hands” healing derived from Tibetan Buddhism. In the West, Reiki has been kept highly secret for many years. ESSENTIAL REIKI presents full information on all three degrees of this healing system, most of it in print for the first time. Teaching from the perspective that Reiki healing belongs to all people, Diane Stein breaks new ground in her classic guide to this ancient practice. While no book can replace the directly received Reiki “attunements,” ESSENTIAL REIKI provides everything else that the healer, practitioner, and teacher of this system needs.

Book SynopsisExploring the relationship between the eight extraordinary vessels, and the zangfu and extraordinary organs, this ground-breaking book provides a new way of looking at the deep connection between the flow of qi through the primary channels, the placement of the confluent points of the extraordinary vessels along the primary channel system, and Daoist conceptions of the evolution of consciousness. He emphasizes the importance of the dai mai channel in integration. The author points to direct relationships between the primary channels, the extraordinary channels, and the zangfu and extraordinary organs which demonstrate a deep, underlying, and continuous connection between the individual and their environment, a continuous connection to Heaven above and Earth below, and, perhaps most importantly, an underlying drive of the channel systems to continually, experientially bring us back to the transcendent unity that we are always a part of, the natural state. This book will enlarge the perspective of Chinese medicine practitioners, and martial artists, and prompt new approaches to treatment.Trade ReviewThis is a valuable book for Chinese Medicine and qigong practitioners. As a Chinese Medicine and qigong practitioner myself, I felt that not enough attention was paid to the Extraordinary Vessels and Organs in my university degree course. The author does a great job in restoring some of the spiritual and Daoist concepts back into Chinese Medicine. I recommend this book to Chinese Medicine students and practitioners because I am sure it will deepen their understanding and expand their view of Chinese Medicine, restoring some of its lost depth. -- Kenneth Morgan * Medical Qigong Education Centre *Table of Contents1. 15 in stock

Book SynopsisThis is the comprehensive guide to utilising nutrigenomics in clinical practice. A cutting-edge field, nutrigenomics examines the effects of foods on gene expression. From a comprehensive patient history and appropriate testing, practitioners can work with the patient to correct underlying biochemical imbalances that may predispose to a disease, using nutrigenomics as a guidance tool. The book covers everything a practitioner needs to know, from the difference between nutrigenomics and epigenetics to what to consider when incorporating nutrigenomics with functional medicine. The book is highly practical, guiding the reader through the realities of using genetic testing in clinical practice.Trade ReviewIf you are a student or work in the arena of Nutrition, Functional or Integrative Medicine and want to know more about the complexities of working with the emerging science of Nutrigenomics in practice, then this is certainly the book for you. It is a complete package of detail, evidence, application, and practitioner competencies to underpin further training. -- Alison Benbow, course leader of the Nutritional therapy MSc at University of Worcester and Nutritional Therapy Education Board memberAn ideal mix of theory and practical application in-depth research applied to a detailed case history. Insightful, well written and interesting. An essential handbook for both new and experienced practitioners using or interested in genetic testing in clinical practice. -- Karen Watkins Nutritional Therapist Mineral Check Ltd (HMA Testing Laboratory)Nutrigenomics made practical. The use of one individual as a case study through out is illuminating, making the technical information accessible and real. I'm sure this book will become a desk bible for all Nutritional Therapists using nutrigenomics in their clinical practice. -- Clare Grundel, MSc Registered Nutritional Therapist, Science and Education Manager, BANTIn this time there is a great emphasis on genetics and its relationship to health. As the science advanced, numerous tests both genetic and functional have arisen and a new lexicon was born.Practitioners who work in this area generally speak in an impenetrable code with words like genomics, epigenetics, Nutrigenomics. Metabolomics, etc. This has led to bewilderment to both the traditional and alternative medicine practitioners as to the interpretation of the vast amount of information available and how to apply it to the individual patient. To date there has been no single source that unites the science and practical application of this very complex area...until now.Anne Pemberton has created a work that walks you through the very basics through the most advanced concepts. The utilization of case studies makes this book doubly valuable. Her Practical advice gives the practitioner and layperson direction in the generalities and specifics of treatment including test interpretation and the effects of polymorphic genes.Wisely, she explains the treatment concepts and what is important to look for in the nutraceuticals but does not advise you as to which products to buy. This takes away any bias that would be inherent in treatises that recommend particular product lines.I have been practicing in this area for close to three decades and I must say this is the most clinically useful book I have ever had the pleasure of reading. For those practicing Nutrigenomics, this is the only source you will need. -- Jess P. Armine DC, RN, Centre for BioIndividualized Medicine, USATable of ContentsIntroduction. 1. • Ripples in the Flow

Jessica Kingsley Publishers Ripples in the Flow

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisIn Z''ev Rosenberg''s second book, the scholar-physician shares his insights from his study of discrimination of movement in the vessels in the Nàn Jing. This book provides an accessible window into the world of classic vessel discrimination, and a deep explanation of the Nàn Jing as well as advising how it can inform modern clinical practice. The first chapters of the Nàn Jing examine the parameters of depth, length, qualities, five phase relationships, viscera/bowel, channel/network vessel and season. Ripples in the Flow is designed as a compendium text that provides a commentary on these essential vessel discrimination chapters, as a teaching text, and as a clinical manual for practitioners of both acupuncture and herbal medicine. It will be especially useful for practitioners of five phase approaches to Chinese and Asian medical systems, as it will provide clear classical references for the knowledge that they have been taught in their formal training.Trade ReviewA masterfully written companion commentary of the essential pulse chapters in the Nàn Jing. It reminds us to reshape and further develop our understanding of vessel dynamics and architecture as they relate to time, space and breath motion. -- Kerri Westhauser, DACM, L.Ac., Director Chinese Herbal Medicine, Maryland University of Integrative HealthThe value of time - taken to understand the landscape of a patient's health - is irreplaceable and nowhere is this truer than in pulse diagnosis. With deep insight and vast clinical experience, Z'ev Rosenberg reflects on the qualitative nature of one of our most important diagnostic tools. He reveals the depth of this foundation text as well as its relevance in contemporary practice. With the increasing integration of Chinese medicine into the mainstream, the tradition of such commentary has never been more important. -- Noah Rubinstein, Clinic Director, The Yinova CenterZ'ev Rosenberg has distilled decades of clinical and textual ruminations into a concise and very readable guide. Taking up the tradition of classical commentary, the reader is given a seat at the table while an experienced clinician engages the pulse sections of the Nàn Jing while also taking note of commentary over the centuries. For someone like myself who always has more to learn about pulse diagnosis, it is a pleasure to see questions that have come up for me answered from the perspective of the modern clinic. Concepts which seem opaque in the original text come to life when applied in case studies and pulse descriptions. This is a fine example of classical concepts translated for today's practitioner. -- Jason D. Robertson, Seattle Institute of East Asian Medicine

    5 in stock

Book SynopsisI Ching Acupuncture - The Balance Method is a system of acupuncture point selection based on the principles of Chinese philosophy and classic Chinese texts, including the I Ching, Nei Jing Su Wen and Ling Shu. In this unique book Dr. Twicken presents classic Chinese philosophical models that explain the relationships between philosophy, Chinese medical principles, acupuncture channels and the human body. The models are the He Tu, Luo Shu Nine Palaces, Early Heaven Ba Gua, Later Heaven Ba Gua, Twelve-Stage Growth Cycle, Stems and Branches and the Chinese calendar. These models and theories clearly show the relationships between the acupuncture channels and the human body and provide guiding theory for acupuncture strategies and point selection. I Ching Acupuncture presents six Balance Methods. This clinically effective system of acupuncture is based on minimal and distal acupuncture treatments.I Ching Acupuncture - The Balance Method is a valuable and effective acupuncture system that can complement any practice.Trade ReviewI Ching Acupuncture is a great read for acupuncture practitioners with an understanding of the theories and philosophies that are used in the art of TCM. -- Journal of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered PhysiotherapistsI am most delighted to welcome David Twicken's new book I Ching Acupuncture - The Balance Method. This book lays a solid foundation for understanding the background theories of acupuncture. The simplicity and clarity of presenting a profound subject is truly fantastic -- Joseph Yu, founder of Feng Shui Research Center, Toronto, CanadaI have followed David Twicken's work since 1998. He has authority of lineage and direct knowledge, which brings clarity and accuracy. This work is mature and it is my number one recommendation when learners ask me what resources there are for I Ching theory as it pertains to acupuncture. -- William R. Morris, PhD, President, AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine, Austin, TexasThe most brilliant, concise, penetrating synthesis of Taoist cycles ever done. Suddenly I Ching trigrams, ten-stem/twelve-branch Chinese calendar, yin-yang, five-phase, twelve hour body-clock and six channel medical theories all leap into sharp, unified focus. More amazingly, Twicken turns theory into easily grasped 'how-to' practice. Finally we have a clear map of Taoist body channels, natural models of healing and life-balance that acupuncturists, taiji and qigong players, energy healers, and feng shui and astrology adepts cannot do without. -- Michael Winn, founder of HealingTaoUSA.com and co-author of seven Tao books with Mantak ChiaIn Classical Chinese Medicine, the highest level doctors utilize the Yijing to deepen their understanding of the medicine itself, and to enhance their clinical results. In his book I Ching Acupuncture - The Balance Method, David Twicken provides the serious practitioner a method for far-reaching healing through the guidance of the Yijing. -- Master Zhongxian Wu, lineage holder of four schools of qigong and martial arts, and author of Vital Breath of the Dao, Seeking the Spirit of the Book of Change and Chinese Shamanic Cosmic Orbit QigongThere have been many books on the I Ching and Acupuncture, but rarely with such clear integration of a deeper and thorough understanding of this ancient philosophy and wisdom. David Twicken's book has given the readers what we need to know, 'The Balance Method' in learning and partaking in these treasures from the sages of the old China. -- Master Chungliang Al Huang, founder of Living Tao Foundation and author of Embrace Tiger, Return To Mountain, Essential Tai Ji, Quantum Soup and The Chinese Book of Animal PowersPractitioners and enthusiasts of feng shui alike will discover far-reaching new insights about its underpinning elements in this new book by David Twicken... David has succeeded in translating complex theoretical information into easily read, practical applications with clarity and simplicity... the information he shares will be of direct value to feng shui practitioners... • Basic Theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Jessica Kingsley Publishers Basic Theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine

    15 in stock

Book SynopsisTraditional Chinese medicine has a long and complex history, yet the basic principles at the heart of practice have remained the same for hundreds of years. Without a solid understanding of these fundamental theories, effective practice is impossible, and this book provides a complete introduction to everything that students and practitioners, both new and experienced, need to know. The book describes and explains all of the fundamental principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, including yin/yang, the five elements, the 'zang and fu' organs, Zang Xiang, Qi, and the meridians and collaterals of the body. Explaining not only the principles upon which these elements work, but also how they interrelate, the book describes how they can be used in practice to identify, treat and prevent ill-health and disease. This thorough and accessible textbook, compiled by the China Beijing International Acupuncture Training Center (CBIATC), under the editorial directorship of leading Chinese clinicians Zhu Bing and Wang Hongcai, is essential reading for students of traditional Chinese medicine, and is also a useful basic reference for TCM practitioners.Trade ReviewAlthough the lucidity of this textbook would have been even more leveraged in the first few years of my OM studies, I find its clarity of context heady refreshment as I am approaching the end of my third decade of practice. -- OMJthe simple descriptions of these ideas are very helpful to a novice and would underpin a much more advanced study of TCM syndromes. -- The JAACP (The Journal of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists)Combining practical instruction with detailed theory, this authoritative textbook, complied by the China Beijing International Acupuncture Training Center (CBIATC), under the editorial direction of leading Chinese clinicians Zhu Bing and Wang Hongcai, is an excellent reference for students and practitioners at all levels... Although modest in size, these texts are packed with information... in terms of portability and cost... they make themselves serious contenders for the college bags of students of Chinese medicine... In terms of visual presentation, other than the obligatory yin-yang and five-phase diagrams, assistance is limited to a few flow diagrams, which may disappoint more visually-orientated learners. This drawback is largely compensated for by the consistent use of clear tables that facilitate both learning and quick reference. Despite the drawback of the simplification inherent in such texts, some of the chapters are excellent. The chapter on emotions and elements in Basic Theories, for example, is particularly good, as is the chapter on bianzheng in the Diagnostic volume. The chapters on pulse and tongue are also well-written, and designed for quick navigation to allow mere seconds to access, for example, the description and significance of a tense pulse or a grey tongue coating. As such... These texts offer simple, portable, concise and well-structured information that is consistent with the TCM literature already available. On occasion, refreshingly original insights come from the teaching experience of the authors. Whilst this series does not necessarily offer an educational panacea, it may just offer what is missing on the market - an affordable, accurate and accessible series of texts written specifically for a Western mindset and understanding. If the rest of this series of text books are as good as the two reviewed here (Diagnostic of Chinese Medicine and Basic Theories of Chinese Medicine), Singing Dragon Textbooks will definitely become part of the recommended reading of Chinese medicine courses; student in the early stages of their TCM studies o those that require a fresh angle or portable material for revision should certainly consider buying them. -- Journal of Chinese Medicine, Greg MeierAlthough the lucidity of this textbook would have been even more leveraged in the first few years of my OM studies, I find its clarity of context heady refreshment as I am approaching the end of my third decade of practice. -- Frank Yurasek Ph. Book SynopsisThe ability to apply complex theory to practice is a vital skill for acupuncturists. Case studies and medical records are an extremely useful resource for understanding how to differentiate between different syndromes, and provide invaluable precedents for deciding upon appropriate methods of diagnosis and treatment. This book presents a collection of real case studies of patients who have been treated by prominent acupuncture practitioners in China. The case studies are divided into five sub-categories of disease, and include information on the patient's medical history, presenting complaint, symptoms, tongue and pulse examination, diagnosis, treatment, and prescription as well as the Western diagnosis. More than 170 different case studies are included in the book, covering 73 different types of syndromes and disease. A useful appendix with the Chinese and English names for these syndromes is also included. Compiled by leading experts at the China Beijing International Acupuncture Training Center (CBIATC), under the editorial direction of leading Chinese clinicians Zhu Bing and Wang Hongcai, this book is a useful reference for acupuncture practitioners and students at all levels.Trade Reviewthis book is yet another concise learning resource for Traditional Chinese Acupuncturists but practitioners of the western acupuncture approach will find some "nuggets" of treatment techniques that will add to one's therapeutic repertoire. -- Acupuncture in MedicineAS with previous publications by Singing Dragon the production quality is high and the standard of translation generally good throughout... This book also details acute cases not usually seen in Western private practice... One of the standout aspects of this book compared to other compilations of case studies is the detailed description of needling techniques and point combinations...This text constitutes more than just a repeat of TCM axioms and has both challenged my existing understanding of Chinese Medicine and provided insight into experienced practitioners' understanding and application of TCM theory. I can therefore recommend this book as a useful resource for both students and experienced practitioners. -- Journal of Chinese MedicineTable of ContentsPreface. Foreword. Introduction. Section 1.
