Christian Focus Publications Ltd If God Already Knows Why Pray?
Book Synopsis Knowing who God is – his character, his plans and why he wants us to pray – are essentials in building our understanding of prayer. Douglas Kelly is a distinguished theologian – he is well qualified to guide us both as a teacher and a fellow traveller, sharing his own setbacks and blessings. One of the biggest questions about prayer is not ‘How do you do it?’ but rather ‘Do we know who we are speaking to?’ Trade Review"It is written for those who find it difficult, in theory or practice, to reconcile our prayers with the sovereignty of God in providence and redemption. He deals with the issues in a way that informs our minds, warms our hearts and moves our wills. He writes with clarity and includes a wealth of memorable and often moving illustrations based on the Bible and personal experience." -- Hywel Roberts, Evangelical Times"Full of excellent expositions of scripture, stories and quotes which time and again focus attention on God." -- Trevor Gregory, Christianity"This is a very readable book on an important and difficult subject this is a refreshing book in an age of much flippancy in Christian living and worship." -- Ronald Christie, Monthly Record

Christian Focus Publications Ltd Miraculous Healing: Why does God heal some and
Book Synopsis"Frost sees all healing as coming from God. Miraculous indicates that healing takes place apart from means. He is anxious to "hold all truth in careful equipoise" and writes "in constant prayer". "He presents five cases of healing in which he was involved and parallels them with five cases where the same conditions obtained but healing did not occur. That drove him to bring his belief to the test of the Word of God. "He looks carefully at the teaching of those who claim that the wholeness of salvation includes physical healing for all as well as spiritual. He examines the texts they use and points out where they appear to err, weighing up the arguments for inevitable healing. He sees the Epistle of James as being written to an emerging Jewish Christian church, "spiritually undeveloped", and the instructions in chapter five permissive rather than mandatory."The post-Resurrection promises apply to the apostles only. Miracles were to provide indisputable evidence that Jesus was the Messiah more than an expression of deep compassion, though they were that as well. "Among his general conclusions he makes it clear that Christ heals today but exercises His own loving sovereignty in so doing - "Christ will choose health, strength and length of days...the saint is ever to remain submissive to God's will whatever this may mean". The book ends with a moving testimony of healing within his own family." Taken from a review by Evangelism magazine.Trade Review"This is easily and incomparably the best book I have ever read on this subject." -- Martin Lloyd Jones (Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1981) Westminster Chapel in London, England from 1938-68.).. classic book on healing... the book springs from personal experience but always seeks to measure that experience against scripture. In the midst of controversy it lead me to consider Jesus. I think you might be glad you read it too. -- Triple Helix- For today's Christian doctorThis is a good little book on the subject of healing that is worthy of being read by anyone interested in the subject. It is a book which was written before its time, but one quickly gets used to his style of writing as his theories on important issues unfold. He presents a number of interesting thoughts on such subjects as 'Why are some peopled healed and others not healed?' and 'Who should or should not be involved in ministry?' Henry Frost adheres very much to the Scriptures throughout this book. I would strongly recommend it to all who are interested in healing. -- The Rutherford Journal of Church & Ministry"This double-edged sword of Scripture and personal experience cuts through thickets of error and misconception to present one of the clearest discussions about miraculous healing of which I know" -- Joni Eareckson Tada (Activist for the disabled and author of Joni, the award-winning Tell Me the Promises, and other classics)

Book SynopsisWhat is the average person to make of the book of Revelation, with its vivid imagery and its apocalyptic visions? Richard Bewes steers his readers through the minefields of controversy and bizarre interpretations. He picks out the great themes and landmarks that are the message of Christ to every generation of believers.Trade Review'Richard Bewes has done it again. 'Brilliant' is the word. Here is the best introduction I know to the book of Revelation; profound, yet simple and understandable. I recommend it for every young Christian, in fact for every Christian Bible reader.' -- Vijay Menon'Richard Bewes has captured the central theme of John's Revelation...Written in graceful prose, this little book will make Revelation's central lines of thought leap to life and relevance. It deserves wide circulation.' -- Don Carson (Emeritus Professor of New Testament, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, Illinois)'For us all, it is a good alternative to the many pre-millennialist books that have been published in recent years. I warmly commend it.' -- Sam Torrens, 'The Rutherford Journal of Church and Ministry''If the Bible is the book for today's church (and it is), then the Book of Revelation should be the book for today's Church (and it is)....Richard Bewes sweeps us through it with a touch that makes even the back streets seem important and yet keeps the strategic parts in perspective' -- Michael Baughen (Retired Bishop of Chester, Cheshire)"Richard Bewes, rector of All Souls, London, is a good preacher. His sermons, biblically based, are relevantly illustrated from our contemporary situations and church history. All Richard's skills are displayed in the 18 chapters of this book. There is much spiritual food in these pages for diligent bible students as an articulate pastor expounds what John experienced one Sunday on lonely, hilly Patmos.""A highly imaginative look into the only book in the Holy Bible with a blessing attached to anyone who even reads it! Richard's descriptions give a view on Revelation that can only be likened to a biblical projection on the screen of your mind." -- John R Green, Broadcasting Manager, UCB TV'Richard Bewes provides a breath of fresh air...very readable' -- Fiona Castle (Well known author and speaker)

Ethics International Press Ltd The Ethics of Gospels
Book SynopsisThe Ethics of Gospels discusses philosophical ethics in the canonical Gospels, both in its normative (formal and material) dimension, and in a descriptive dimension (as science about morality). It argues that the ethics present in the Gospels has a universal and not denominational character, although is not reduced to it. The author argues that in the Gospels, Jesus made acceptance and the implementation of ethical goods, values and material norms dependent on the level of ethical awareness of His recipients.

Encounter Books,USA Christianity On Trial: Arguments Against
Book SynopsisIn "Christianity on Trial," Vincent Carroll and David Shiflett do not shrink from confronting the tragedies that have been perpetrated throughout the ages in the name of Christianity. But they argue that the current indulgence of anti-Christian rhetoric in our culture not only involves bad taste, but tunnel vision and willful historical illiteracy as well. Carroll and Shiflett dispassionately consider the indictment of Christianity--specifically that it has justified racism and misogyny, encouraged ignorance, and promoted the despoliation of the environment and even justified genocide. Then, in a narrative whose intellectual elegance and verve calls up comparisons to "How the Irish Saved Civilization," they answer these charges, showing how in fact the Christian tradition has not only injected morality into our political order, but softened brutal practices and confining superstitions, created the foundation for intellectual inquiry, and created the compassionate! impulse. "Christianity on Trial" challenges readers of all beliefs--even those with a belief in disbelief itself--to question the anti-religious bigotry that thrives in our intellectual world and to reevaluate the role of Christianity not only as a source of consolation but of enlightenment and human liberation as well.

Temple Lodge Publishing The Tree of Life and the Holy Grail: Ancient and
Book SynopsisRecent works of fiction and popular history have promoted the idea that the Holy Grail symbolizes a physical bloodline resulting from the union of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene. This, supposedly, is the 'secret' that esoteric movements have kept tirelessly for the past 2,000 years. From her groundbreaking research, Sylvia Francke exposes this notion to be a blatant misinterpretation of the mystery traditions that preceded and ran parallel to the birth of Christianity. She traces the ancient spiritual paths of knowledge from the Cathars, the Knights Templar and the enigmatic Rosicrucians, to the work of Rudolf Steiner in the twentieth century. Here, she concludes, is true Grail knowledge: the Tree of Life and the Holy Grail itself explained in their metaphysical context. From her research, she suggests a solution to the riddle of the sudden wealth and strange behaviour of Berenger Sauniere, the mysterious priest of Rennes-le-Chateau in southern France. True Grail knowledge, she concludes, has nothing to do with bloodlines or worldly status, but is an ancient lifeline to the spiritual origins of creation. Its energetic forces ray up from the earth and down from the constellations and planets while interacting with individual human beings. It holds the key to the fulfilment of mankind's quest, a step to the next phase of human evolution...The recent explosion of interest in an alternative history of Christianity - the shadow Grail - prompted Sylvia Francke to revise "The Tree of Life and the Holy Grail", first published in 1996. The result is a completely reworked and expanded book that constitutes a powerful and convincing refutation of distorted esoteric truths.

Temple Lodge Publishing Mark’s Gospel: The Cosmic Rhythm
Book SynopsisHermann Beckh’s masterful study of Mark’s Gospel offers much more than scholarly argument. It is the work of a true visionary who allows his readers to discover the meaning of the Earth and of humanity for themselves. Beckh was in the forefront of entirely new research and recovery of the Gospel, writing more for the future than for his own time. It is not uncommon for biblical scholars to view St. Mark’s Gospel as little more than an assemblage of fragmentary sources and a copy of uncertain, early memories. The Gospel is said to have little historical veracity, harmony or guiding structure. Beckh’s contemporary, the German writer Arthur Drews, even argued that the text was nothing more than a simplistic solar myth, wherein another Sun-hero pursued his way around the Greco-Roman constellations. Mark’s Gospel: The Cosmic Rhythm is a response to such twentieth-century materialistic thinking. He was asked to write the book in the 1920s by the leaders of The Christian Community, who sought to rescue the desecrated Gospel from its opponents. Inspired by Rudolf Steiner and a vast knowledge of ancient languages – Tibetan, Sanskrit, Pali and Avestan along with Hebrew, Greek and Latin – the Rev. Professor Hermann Beckh perceived how the Gospel reflects God’s Everlasting Covenant, and meticulously expressed its aesthetic unity, the consonance of its parts and its consequent radiant clarity. His far-reaching understanding of sacred texts in the original languages, always associated with the disciplined meditation he had attained from anthroposophy, led to unprecedented insight. This new edition of his classic study has been revised and redesigned.

Book SynopsisThe City of God against the Pagans is a central text in the Western intellectual tradition. Made up of twenty-two lengthy books, Augustine wrote his masterpiece over a thirteen-year period during which the Western Roman Empire began to unravel. The first ten books are a critique of pagan religion and philosophy, while books eleven to twenty-two treat the relationship between the City of God and the Earthly City. Throughout Augustine conveys his mature vision of what it means for a Christian to live in a world with evil. Its arguments and ideas have provoked debate for nearly 1600 years, and remains a central text in the disciplines of theology, historiography, and political theory.Table of ContentsWays In to the Text Who was Augustine of Hippo? SPCK Publishing Jesus and His World - Paul and His World
Book SynopsisHave you ever wanted accessible introductions to the key figures of Christian history? In this book two expert authors draw on biblical scholarship to bring Jesus and Paul and their worlds vividly to life. Jesus and His World Jesus Christ is probably the single most influential figure in world history, but who was this preacher from Nazareth? Can we be sure he existed? And if he did, what was the world like in which he lived?Placing Jesus firmly in the Jewish world of 1st-century Palestine, Peter Walker explores the religious and social background to his life, the Jewish expectations of a messiah, Jesus' ministry and teaching, and helps readers interpret Jesus' radical mission and the way he related to the world around him. Paul and His WorldWe know little about Paul, yet he has had a greater impact on the development of Christianity than any other person except Christ. For some, his influence has been largely negative. For others, he is simply the greatest mind in Christian history.Stephen Tomkins argues that Paul would have been quite at home with such a mixed reception. Despite enjoying a degree of hero worship in his lifetime, he was also more reviled than any other Christian, and his Christian life was a constant arduous missionary journey of shipwrecks, prison, mob violence and the depressing politics of church life. This is a lively and lucid portrayal of the man behind the controversy and the drama.

Book SynopsisEnigmatic to her in nature, she spent years looking for the answer... The answer was out there, it had been looking for her. It's been looking for you...Now it's found you... Based on a true encounter I explain that we live in a world crafted from perspectives. It is not in our power to judge a situation right or wrong as we cannot or were never made competent to see the whole picture. To not see the whole picture is to not see the truth. (That's why the bible tells us we must lean not on our own understanding)I explain how arguments and wars are created where one person insists to press through their perspective on another and that when we can free ourselves from the judgments of others, it is this that will bring us the inner peace and the freedom to connect with our authentic self and become all that God has intended us to be.The book further explains that whilst we are busy bickering as to who/what is right or wrong, we miss the TRUTH - i.e. the outcome that has been pre-destined for us by an all knowing God. In essence we miss the purpose for that which we were created.Trade ReviewLisa Nichols refers to Valerie's 'Eve's Story' as written in The Blind Spot as 'phenomenal'. Darton, Longman & Todd Ltd My Theology: The Word within the words
Book SynopsisMy Theology: The world’s leading Christian thinkers explain some of the principal tenets of their theological beliefs. The Word within the words is a Poet’s Credo, in which Malcolm Guite describes how his Christian faith informs and underpins his poetry, and in turn how poetry itself, and more widely the poetic imagination, helps him to understand and interpret his faith. Illustrating his account with personal stories and poetry – both his own and classics from the canon – Guite explains a guiding theology of Christ as the Word, the essential logos that underlies all things, made flesh for us in Jesus. He then demonstrates how Scripture, Liturgy and Sacrament can each be understood as a poetry capable of transfiguring our vision and transforming our lives.

Book SynopsisIs it theologically possible to hold that God's blessing can rest upon sexually-active same-sex relationships and same-sex marriages? Is it therefore legitimate for the Church of England to bless them? This study carefully examines the papers on blessing by Walter Moberly and Isabelle Hamley, produced for the Church of England's General Synod in July 2023, then explores the pattern for God's blessing, as found in Scripture. The principles are more widely applicable. Martin Davie concludes that if such prayers of blessing were to be authorised, it would mean deciding that God's rejection of same-sex unions no longer applies.Table of ContentsWITH GOD'S APPROVAL? Templeton Foundation Press,U.S. Human Nature: Reflections on the Integration of
Book Synopsis College and university professors have been demanding that this book, out of print for several years, be made available again, as it is unique in its field. This new edition, which includes a new preface and guidance to current literature, offers a balanced study of the implications of scientific developments in psychology and neuroscience for traditional Christian beliefs. Malcolm Jeeves, former editor-in-chief of Neuropsychologia, a leading international scientific journal in behavioral and cognitive neuroscience, explores the intersection of science and faith in defining what it means to be human. He reports on recent scientific research on consciousness and the link between mind, brain, and behavior. He examines issues such as determinism by indicating the possible relevance of chaos theory to enduring concerns about freedom and responsibility. He looks at similarities and differences between human nature and animal nature. He reexamines traditional dualist views of soul and body in the light of contemporary research on mind and brain and argues for a wholistic model. This leads to addressing questions such as: does spiritual awareness depend on the intactness of our brains or does spirituality stand apart from our biological substrate? Jeeves' insightful analysis of the ways recent findings in psychology relate to certain Christian beliefs about people expands the global science religion dialogue.
