Book SynopsisJonathan Dove's Treasures in Heaven is a 6.5 minute work for organ and SATB choir which sets Matthew 6:1921 from the Bible, a text that exhorts the reader to gather treasures in heaven rather than on earth since where the treasure is, there will also be our hearts. The energetic piece is driven from the organ part with the choir singing in rhythmic but homophonic blocks.It was commissioned by Lord Crewe's Charity on the occasion of its tercentenary, in memory of the life and charitable foundation of Nathanial, Lord Crewe and premiered by the Choir of Durham Cathedral on 18 September 2021.This edition (EP 73595) is the choral leaflet, which includes the organ part.

Edition Peters Sing Joyfully
Book SynopsisThe title Sing Joyfully was actually suggested to me by one of its commissioners from the Saffron Walden Choral Society, as a working title for a piece of music that would eventually explore the pleasure to be derived from singing. The title immediately brought to mind the anthem by William Byrd, with which I then chose to begin this new piece, divesting the work of its religious nature by omitting parts of the text.I decided, inspired by the nature of the commission, to collect some texts that specifically describe singing communally and what benefits this holds for the individual and for society as a whole. A passage from Thomas Morley's Plaine and Easy Introduction to Practical Music describes the narrator's discomfort at being unable to join his fellow guests in some convivial communal singing. This then leads into words from a research paper published in the journal Royal Society Open Science by Eiluned Pearce, Jacques Launay and Robin Dunbar that detail

Book SynopsisLike many of his works, Bach has also edited the St. John Passion several times. A final version of Bach''s hand is not available. The reworking concerns both the instrumentation as well as changes in the sequence of movements. The textual basis is the biblical account of the evangelist John (John 18 and 19) with the insertions from the Gospel of Matthew (Matthew 26:75 and 27, 51-52).
