Templar Publishing Maps
Book SynopsisExplore the world with this lavish book of maps. This collection of 52 highly illustrated maps details not only geographical features and political borders, but also places of interest, iconic personalities, native animals and plants, local peoples, cultural events, and many more fascinating facts associated with each region. This book is a celebration of the world, from its immense mountains to its tiny insects - and everything in between!Trade ReviewThe 52 illustrated maps in this book invite the reader on a journey of exploration around the world. Opening with an original style of contents page, consisting of a world map with countries labelled with the pages where information can be found, the atlas is divided into eight sections, looking at countries within each continent plus the Arctic and Antarctica. Not every country in, fro example Africa or South America, is included, but, those that are, give a flavour of the variety to be found there. I like the way that the European section travels southwards from Iceland, which means that countries such as Croatia and Romania are given equal space alongside the perhaps more familiar France and Spain. There is a dearth of information about some of these places (publishers tend to concentrate on what they see as the 'main' countries), particularly for young children. This book would have been very welcome at my school last term when Iceland was included in the Year 1 topic of Around the World! Each large, intricately detailed double page spread features fascinating facts, places of interest, wildlife and important people, all of which could provide a springboard for discussion and further research. This is an innovative approach to geography which will keep young and not so young, discoverers coming back again and again to pore over the quirky, delightful drawings. A must for the primary library or classroom; every page provides a good display opportunity! -- Jayne Gould * The School Librarian Journal *The tagline on this gorgeous book promises you can 'Travel the globe without leaving your living room' and, for the armchair traveller this surely is the most fun way of doing so.The book of 52 brilliantly illustrated maps is a visual feast for readers of all ages, with lavishly meticulous drawings from Polish duo Aleksandra and Daniel Mizielinski. It details not only borders, cities, rivers and peaks but also places of historical and cultural interest, eminent personalities, iconic animals and plants. Released by wonderful new publishing house, Big Picture Press, MAPS is part of a series created by a stellar list of artists, eachtitle being design-led, and being a joy for children and adult design-lovers alike. * Cotswold Life *While we have a lot of books in our house, we realised recently that we didn't have a lot of reference books. As children, we both loved stumbling across a book too heavy to even lift, let alone open and read; a book full of facts and numbers; a book whose story you discovered through its ideas rather than its prose. So, when we both laid eyes on Maps by Aleksandra and Daniel Mizielinski, we got really excited. Sure enough, it's a huge book that has little to no chance of ever fitting on a bookshelf and it is full of facts beautifully presented. Every turn of the page presents a new country and a whole set of stories. The book invites you to 'Travel the globe without leaving your living room'. That is not a boast; you really get a strong sense of each country and feel like you've really been on a journey if you read it cover to cover. As book lovers, we often experience the feeling of traveling without leaving a room. Books have the wonderful ability to transport you all around the world and beyond. What makes Maps so special, aside from its fantastic and unique illustrations and fun and quirky facts, is the sheer atmosphere it creates and the feeling of discovery you get from turning its pages.Maps is a truly one-of-a-kind reference book for all ages and I urge you to take the trip to your local bookstore, and then sit back and travel the globe...from your couch! -- Daniel Morrfew * Fable Patch Tree *Much more than an ordinary atlas, this book of maps is a visual feast for readers of all ages, with lavishly drawn illustrations from the incomparable Mizielinskis. It features not only borders, cities, rivers, and peaks, but also places of historical and cultural interest, eminent personalities, iconic animals and plants, cultural events and many more fascinating facts associated with every region of our planet. * Scottish Book Trust *This is a book I coveted as soon as I clapped eyes on it... The illustrations are engrossing with the right amount of detail (avoiding information overkill). It is a book that invites you to brood, browse - and travel. -- Kate Kellaway * The Guardian *A great first atlas for kids... * Lonely Planet Traveller *My family all love maps so this delightful book called Maps by Aleksandra Mizielinska and Daniel Mizielinski and published by @bigpicturepress has had us enthralled. With 52 highly illustrated maps featuring geographical features as well as places of interest, political borders, native animals and plants, people, cultural events and many more facts I think I think I could look at this book every day and still find something new to look at.The oversized coffee table book has double page spreads of each map, beginning with a world map then split into continents, with maps from a selection of countries from that continent behind the continent map. The continent maps are more basic than the country maps, but still include facts like the number of countries, the area and sealife. The country pages are very detailed and all include the flag, capital city, the languages spoken, population, and area as well as a host of other illustrations about the country including the wildlife, food, buildings, famous people and many more.I've spent a lot of looking at the pages with my nephew aged 7 and he has been fascinated with the book. The detail in the book is simply amazing and it really has captured his imagination. I love books like this that that introduce geography and culture to children without them realising that they are actually learning! The illustrations are fantastic and there is so much to see on each page, I especially like that every item is properly named whether it be a fish, fruit, tree or flower. There is also a Flags of the World section of the book which is a great teaching aid. With so much to see this book would make a lovely Christmas gift and will certainly keep everyone entertained after Christmas lunch! * Review Studio UK *

Book SynopsisFrom the team behind the best-selling Atlas of Adventures comes this prehistoric journey of discovery into the world of the dinosaurs. Travel back in time to lock horns with a triceratops, stalk prey with a T. rex, and learn to fly with a baby pteranodon. With hundreds of things to spot and facts to learn, this is the biggest adventure yet! Discover the reptiles that ruled the world in the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, alongside deep-sea monsters and other incredible flora and fauna. Each section begins with an infographic map of the region it explores, followed by richly detailed two-page spreads featuring the dinosaurs whose fossils were discovered there. Come face-to-face with the shark-hunting Mosasaurus, the enormous Argentinosaurus and the ferocious Spinosaurus, and learn all about their appearance, behaviour and habitat.Lucy Letherland’s stunning artwork puts you in the picture with these prehistoric marvels, as true-to-life detail gives a rich snapshot of life millions of years ago.Interesting facts and figures pepper the scenes. Did you know that an Apatosaurus was bigger than two London buses parked end-to-end? Or that Triceratops' mouth was strong enough to slice through tree trunks? Or that pterosaurs kept warm with a layer of feathery fur? A 'Can you find?' page at the back challenges you to explore the pages even deeper by locating the pictured scenes and scene-stealers. Children and adults alike will be amazed by the prehistoric adventures awaiting in this book, an essential addition to any dino-lover's shelf. Trade Review"The colorful creatures that stalk through the oversize pages of 'Atlas of Dinosaur Adventures' have a simpler, more stylized look, but they too evoke a stunning variety of life forms. Written by Emily Hawkins and illustrated by Lucy Letherland, this absorbing compendium puts prehistoric animals on the map. It's our map, not theirs: The continents appear as they are today rather than in the landmass configurations that prevailed in the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, making it easier to grasp the dinosaurs' extraordinary geographic span. Informative bursts of text and witty fillips here and there (e.g., a tiny Microraptor wears a goofy propeller hat) add fun to this engrossing volume for enthusiasts ages 4-10." - Wall Street Journal'Where do I even begin on how brilliant this book is?
