Harpia Publishing, LLC Red Dragon 'Flankers': China'S Prolific 'Flanker'
Book SynopsisNoted for its exceptional performance, the Sukhoi Su-27 is not only one of the most capable fourth-generation fighters, but its development history is also remarkably rich. The ‘Flanker’ story took on a new industrial and political dimension when the Su-27 was chosen by China to meet the People’s Liberation Army Air Force’s requirement for a new fourth-generation type. This was a win-win-situation: Russia received a much-needed multi-billion-dollar contract and the PLAAF, for the first time, obtained a true high-end fourth-generation fighter. However, what followed was a complex drama, with both sides telling different stories. Following the direct sale from Russia, China obtained a contract for licence manufacturing. This yielded mixed success in the beginning and by the time the manufacturing procedures had evolved and improved, the licenced J-11 fighters no longer met the PLAAF’s requirements.Subsequently, China developed indigenous variants of the ‘Flanker’ equipped with improved avionics, weapons, and engines, which Russia regards as a breach of the formal agreement. Regardless of whether these ‘Sino-Flankers’ are illegal copies, evolved clones or indigenous versions, the Chinese ‘Flanker’ series ultimately evolved into a wide range of variants, sometimes with no true counterparts in Russia. This book provides a full overview of the Chinese ‘Flanker’ family, describing the genesis of this family and providing a review of the variants, their systems, and capabilities and how they are used by the People’s Liberation Army.Trade ReviewFor the many Sukhoi Su-27 Flanker fans out there, this book just broadens the scope of what was previously known about this theater and operator. * Large Scale Planes *Despite only comprising five chapters and a single appendix, the wealth of information contained in the book’s 250+ pages is prodigious. Highly recommended!

Histoire & Collections Gribeauval System - Volume 2
Book SynopsisThis work presents in detail the uniforms of the foot artillery between 1786 and 1815. Formal in style, and indeed austere, the uniforms illustrated here were the very ones worn by those who participated in during the most crucial and of the Empire. (71 plates including 29 by Ludovic Letrun) An important part of the book is devoted to the detailed description of equipment (artillery, ammunitions, front axle units, forges, etc.). Developed and used by the gunners ever since the reforms of Mr. Gribeauval, his construction tables provide a clear presentation of primary artillery as well as the basic tactics employed by the Army.

Editions Heimdal La Wiking Vol. 3
Book SynopsisThe Wiking Division was the only SS armoured division exclusively to fight on the Eastern Front. The division was partly composed of volunteers Flemish, Dutch and Scandinavian whose primary motivation, for many of them, was to fight against Bolshevism. They fought with an energy which never wavered even if the efforts and sacrifices were not always rewarded with victory. Counted among its ranks officers of unusual caliber as Felix Steiner, Herbert -Otto Gille , August Dieckmann and Hans Dorr Walter Schmidt to name a few. This book recounts their history in unparalleled details.Trade ReviewEven as a book taken by itself this one is amazing...while coupled with the two previous volumes it makes for what is I think the most detailed history of an individual unit that I can remember reading while the huge number of associated archive photos across all three books is equally stunning. * Military Model Scene *

Editions Heimdal Les Troupes d'Assaut De l'Armée Allemande:

Book Synopsis"On 6 June 1944, on the beaches, as well as inland, with very few exceptions, all orders and reports for all the fighting arms were transmitted by electric radios." Until now, no encyclopaedia has ever presented so much transmission equipment to such a large number of readers. Although not exhaustive, Les Radios alliées, 1940-1945's two volumes invite you to delve into a world that many collectors of WWII military memorabilia don't even suspect exists. Radio is a world that has yet to be discovered, a world where it is still possible to find a genuine collector's item that has seen combat. Any enthusiast reading about the fighting in Europe – from the Normandy beaches to VE Day – should know how complex the means of radio-electric communication used by the Allies were. The descriptions accompanying the apparatus are taken entirely from the original technical data and specifications. No less than 160 transmission apparatuses – BC 611, BC 1306, Wireless Set N° 18, N° 19 or the Amplifiers RF N° 2 and Wavemeters Class D, etc. – used by the Anglo-Saxon forces (English, American, Canadian, New-Zealand and French) are all fully shown as they were, in all their complexity and with all their accessories. Editions Heimdal Bernard Jardin: Gestapiste Normand

Trivent Publishing Designed for Death: Controlling Killer Robots
Book SynopsisAutonomous weapons systems, often referred to as 'killer robots', have been a hallmark of popular imagination for decades. However, with the inexorable advance of artificial intelligence systems (AI) and robotics, killer robots are quickly becoming a reality. These lethal technologies can learn, adapt, and potentially make life and death decisions on the battlefield with little-to-no human involvement. This naturally leads to not only legal but ethical concerns as to whether we can meaningful control such machines, and if so, then how. Such concerns are made even more poignant by the ever-present fear that something may go wrong, and the machine may carry out some action(s) violating the ethics or laws of war. Researchers, policymakers, and designers are caught in the quagmire of how to approach these highly controversial systems and to figure out what exactly it means to have meaningful human control over them, if at all. In Designed for Death, Dr Steven Umbrello aims to not only produce a realistic but also an optimistic guide for how, with human values in mind, we can begin to design killer robots. Drawing on the value sensitive design (VSD) approach to technology innovation, Umbrello argues that context is king and that a middle path for designing killer robots is possible if we consider both ethics and design as fundamentally linked. Umbrello moves beyond the binary debates of whether or not to prohibit killer robots and instead offers a more nuanced perspective of which types of killer robots may be both legally and ethically acceptable, when they would be acceptable, and how to design for them.

MODEL CENTRUM Camouflage & Markings of German Armor in Italy:
Book SynopsisCompared to the fighting in Northwest Europe or the epic battles in the Soviet Union, the battles for the possession of the Italian peninsula seem to seem to pale in insignificance. The Allies regarded it as a side-show and the men that fought there were often referred to as the ‘D-Day Dodgers’. The Germans must have regarded it similarly judging by what forces they sent to Italy. Nevertheless, while the terrain in the Italian peninsula was often unsuitable for the offensive use of armour, it was entirely suitable for armour in a defensive role. As the Allied troops were soon to learn, often a lone tank (quite often a Tiger) or assault gun, strategically placed, could hold up an entire advance for hours, if not days in some cases. Moreover by the time the Allies had reached the Gustav Line around Cassino, German resistance had hardened. From here, the Liri valley offering what appeared to be an easy route northwards to Rome, was in fact the opposite and the strong defense put up by the German troops there proved a major stumbling block to Allied plans. This prompted the Allies to seek a way around this, one that involved landing troops at Anzio-Nettuno in January 1944. Here the Germans were quick to respond and soon contained the Allies to a narrow beachhead and one that they were unable to break out of until June that year. This deployment involved a wider range of armour than the Allies previously had to deal with. Not only was this it first time that Tigers had been employed on mainland Italy, but it was the first time the Elefant heavy tank destroyer went into action against the Allies. The Sturmpanzer 43 or Brummbär, an infantry support self-propelled gun, also made its appearance on this occasion. As the Germans continued their retreat up the Italian peninsula, vehicles such as Sturmgeschütz IVs, Jagdpanzer IVs and Hetzers were added to their inventory. The Germans became more dependent on Italian armor, bringing into service some of the higher performance Semovente assault guns.Concurrent with this was the deployment some of their obsolete types with police units in the rear areas, often in anti-partisan operations. These included the PzKpfw III Ausf. N with its 75 mm L/24 gun, the Italian AB41 armored car and P 26/40 tank, along with some Russian T-34/76 tanks. This proliferation of vehicle typesalso saw a move away from the overall Dunkelgelb finish that seemed to be predominant in the earlier engagements in Italy. This saw the use of Olivgrün, Rotbrun or both in a variety of patterns, something that had started to happen at Cassino. Italian armor taken into service usually retained its factory scheme of Dunkelgelb, Olivgrün and Rotbrun, but some units repainted them with a scheme of their own.Trade ReviewI found the photographs in this book to be amazing, fascinating, and very detailed, ideal for any modeler as reference materials. * IPMS/USA 16/11/2022 *

Wydawnictwo STRATUS, Artur Juszczak Weapons of the Great War: Automatic Weapons of
Book SynopsisBook tells the readers about machine guns, automatic rifles, handguns and revolvers, including both the official weapon models in service in the Russian Army in 1914-1917 and weapons not officially approved as weapons in service but nevertheless used by the troops such as obsolete Russian and non-Russian arms both supplied by the allies or captured from the enemies. A special highlight of this book is the part describing the experimental automatic weapons, without which the reader would hardly get the big picture of the state of the Russian defense engineering developments in the early 20th century. For each model described in the book, there is a brief history of how it was designed and started to be used as an approved army weapon, also with the description of the key modifications made to it throughout the period of its manufacturing for further use as in-service weapon. The book contains a detailed and meticulous description of the field use, strengths and weaknesses of the weapon seen through the eyes of the soldiers. It is the first book written by a Russian weapons history researcher providing a detailed description of machine gun system parts such as mounts, carriers and pack equipment. This book also contains unique information on flare guns and special accessories.Book contains detailed color photos of the guns preserved in different Russian museums.

Wydawnictwo STRATUS, Artur Juszczak 2 Cm Flak 28 & 30
Book SynopsisThis new photo album is number 28 in the MMP Books/Stratus "Camera On" series. It is the first to cover in such photographic detail the German usage of both the 2 cm Flak 28 and the Flak 30. Both of these weapons saw extensive action on all battle fronts of the Second World War wherever the German armed forces saw service. While they were both excellent weapons at their time of development, they both rapidly became less effective as ever faster and higher flying aircraft were produced by Germany's enemies. This book contains 140+ photographs taken by the average German soldier of both the 2 cm Flak 28 and 30 as well as their crews while in service and many of the environments they had to operate within. This volume illustrates these weapons as the soldiers themselves viewed them in both their fighting environment and, in many cases, just as a tool they lived with and had to look after on a daily basis, not the highly polished and sanitized views of the official photographers. This book is an invaluable reference for military historians and modelers alike.
