Elsevier Science Publishing Co Inc Laboratory Animal Medicine
Book SynopsisTrade Review"...for laboratory animal medicine trainees preparing for the board certification examination or practicing laboratory animal veterinarians, this book is an indispensable reference that is well worth the price." --Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Laboratory Animal Medicine, Third Edition "...this new edition has maintained the level of quality and quantity one has come to expect from the ACLAM publication series. In its absence, an animal research library should be considered incomplete." --Laboratory Animal Practitioner, 2003 "This book offers students of veterinary medicine with practicing or interested scientists in biology and medicine with clearly written and scientifically valid information on the animals used in biomedical research. While the well chosen photographs and illustrations are important and necessary compliments to the text information, the detailed 60-page index allows 'point-source' location of specific details...well organized, well written, and well published, this volume offers much to many who will be seeking its facts and figures." --Vet Human Toxicol, 2003 "This book is written in a clear, readable style that is informative on each topic without significant changes in style among the 32 chapters...a valuable reference for those who need this type of laboratory animal information." --Veterinary Pathology, 2003Table of Contents1. Taylor & Francis Ltd Comparative Anatomy of the Mouse and the Rat
Book SynopsisKey features:Beautifully illustrated with detailed, full-colour images - very user-friendly for investigators, students, and technicians who work with animalsProvides essential information for research and clinical purposes, describing some structures not usually shown in any other anatomy atlasIn each set of illustrations, the same view is depicted in the mouse and the rat for easy comparisonText draws attention to the anatomical features which are important for supporting the care and use of these animals in researchEndorsed by the American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) Comparative Anatomy of the Mouse and Rat: a Color Atlas and Text provides detailed comparative anatomical information for those who work with mice and rats in animal research. Information is provided about the anatomical features and landmarks for conducting a physical examination, collecting biologicaTrade ReviewAs the title suggests, this is an in-depth anatomy textbook. It is ring bound, so it lies flat and fits nicely on a mayo stand in surgery, or on a counter during a postmortem evalu- ation. This book is visually appealing as it has many detailed, well- done, full color drawings of mouse and rat anatomy throughout. Topics are covered that I didn't expect, such as the detailed section on Juvenile Features, which includes drawings of mouse and rat pups at < 24 hours, 5 days, 11 days, 21 days, and adult, explaining how you would sex each species at each age. This book is endorsed by the American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS), and the value of this book for laboratory animal veterinarians is clear. I do, however, feel that this book could also be a valuable resource for clinical practitioners. As an exotic animal veterinarian, for example, I was very interested to see the detailed drawings of the mammary glands. Mammary gland tumors are a common issue in mice and rats, so it is good to be able to appreciate how far that tissue extends from the ventral area and the actual papillae. Many of the other sections would be useful in establishing the locations of structures for radiographs, surgery, sample collection, catheter placement, etc.Overall, I found this book to be very interesting, visually appealing, and a detailed exploration of the anatomy of the mouse and rat, with the differences between the species clearly highlighted in the text. This textbook would be a useful reference for laboratory animal veterinarians and exotic animal practitioners.Reviewed by Teresa Bousquet, DVM, Park Veterinary Centre, Alberta for The Canadian Veterinary Journal, March 2019.Table of ContentsBody Regions. Arcler Education Inc Handbook of Laboratory Animal Science: Key
Book SynopsisAnimal science-related experiments are dependent on several laboratory conditions that are to be studied. This book offers basic knowledge of animal science labs and their maintenance. We attempted to portray some of the monitoring techniques that give an idea of animal science experiments. We also gave a detailed explanation of some of the principles that govern the lab that was built to perform experiments on animals. This book explains the basic concepts of anesthesia and its role in conducting experiments. We explained the containment procedures with special emphasis on transgenic animals. Some of the methods that make the transportation of animals secure are also given in this book.Table of Contents Chapter 1 Introduction to the Animal Science Laboratory Chapter 2 Monitoring of Laboratory Animals Chapter 3 Principles governing Animal Science Labs Chapter 4 Anesthesia and Lab Animals Chapter 5 Containment Strategies Chapter 6 Transgenic Animals Chapter 7 Transportation of animals
