David & Charles Modifying the Electronics of Modern Classic Cars:
Book SynopsisWant to upgrade/update your cars electronic systems, but don't know how? Here's the solution! Cars of the 1990s and 2000s are from a golden era - they've got sufficient electronic systems to achieve great outcomes, but they're not so complex that they're impossible to modify. The missing link, until now, has been a hands-on manual on how to achieve those results. Well, here it is! This book covers everything from cheap modifications that allow you to adjust engine fuelling and ignition timing, to modifying car systems like power steering and even stability control. Easy upgrades to lighting, sound systems and the dashboard - right through to fitting and tuning programmable engine management. Photos and circuit diagrams guide you each step of the way. All the car modifications are practical, and have been tried and tested by the author. From a 660cc turbo front-wheel drive screaming to 8500rpm on standard engine management but with big injectors... to a DOHC V8 rear-wheel drive with modified traction control... to a twin-turbo all-wheel drive with a custom torque split controller. Even modifying the re-gen braking on a hybrid! This book is essential reading for anyone who wants to exploit the true electronic potential of their 1990s-2000s cars.Trade ReviewThe author has a knack of describing complex subjects in understandable prose and his latest book is no exception - SpeedsceneTable of ContentsChapter 1 - Electronic modification Chapter 2 - Overview of engine management Chapter 3 - Engine management interceptors Chapter 4 - Programmable engine management Chapter 5 - Other engine bay modifications Chapter 6 - Modifying other electronic control systems Chapter 7 - Modifying sound systems Chapter 8 - Upgrading lighting Chapter 9 - Upgrading dashboards, instruments and warnings Chapter 10 - Improving convenience and security

The Crowood Press Ltd Customizing Your Motorcycle: Shed-Built to Show
Book SynopsisBuilding a custom motorcycle has never been more popular, with even the major manufacturers keen to capitalize on the growing trend. A custom motorbike is the product of an owner using their own skills to produce an individual machine, and with the right tools and approach it is well within most people's means to take a standard machine, new or second-hand, and make it their personal statement. Providing clear and practical advice, this new book, Customizing Your Motorcycle - Shed-Built to Show Bike introduces the reader to the techniques and processes needed to customize any motorcycle. Eschewing the practice of using expensive off-the-shelf parts, it shows how the shrewd use of salvaged and alternative sources is not only economic but also results in a satisfyingly unique custom machine. The book also covers an introduction to the main styles on which today's custom scene was founded. Choosing a suitable bike and how to make decisions when buying second-hand are covered. Workshop setup and tools and components of a bike and custom parts are also covered. Basic improvements and the essential maintenance to make a safe and usable bike are discussed. Projects demonstrate how to make custom parts, while examples of how different custom bikes were built by the author show how they are designed and put together.

It also gives advice on the best tools for working on the electronics of your car. The book is fully illustrated throughout with real-world examples. If you are planning to set up your own home car workshop, this book covers everything you need to know.Trade ReviewAuthor Julian Edgar advises on the best equipment, tools and fitting with which to equip your home workshop, taking into consideration what jobs you are planning to undertake and how much room you have at your disposal. There's also invaluable suggestions on innovative storage ideas when space is at a premium and recommendations of the most reliable makes and models to buy. It's illustrated throughout with colour photos and illustrations. - Car Mechanics. Go on, you know you want to - a guide to how to turn wherever you keep your car into a place to repair, renovate and restore. - Classic Cars. Author Edgar's guide to organising a garage covers everything from tool choice to workshop layout. You'll find suggestion for modifying tools, making them yourself and neat storage tricks. With welding techniques, hand and power tool use and even electrical diagnostics included, this could well be the helping hand needed to establish or improve your home garage. - Classic & Sports Car. This well produced, profusely illustrated and often amusingly written book is one that everyone who operates their own workshop would benefit from reading. - Speedscene. A welcome reprint in paperback of BRM insider, Dick Salmon's no-nonsense view of exactly what it was like being a member of a works racing team in Formula One racing in the 1950s to the 1970s. Dick became accustomed to travelling around with the team, culminating in its World Championship double victory in 1962 with Graham Hill as number one driver and BRM as top constructor. Dick tells of the team's ups and downs, the everyday events and the special moments in a very readable manner. The forward was written by Graham Hill's wife, Bette, who died in December 2017. - Classic Car Weekly. There is much in here about racing, but plenty too about life on a road that was far less straightforward than is has since become. The engaging prose is accompanied by a diverse photo archive, covering action, people, technical details and the need to crane team trucks onto boat decks because that was the most practical way to reach Casablanca. It's a glorious reflection of an age when travelling meant something more adventurous than scanning a boarding pass in your smartphone. - Motor Sport. The ultimate 'man cave' has to contain racks of told and a purposeful bench. However, going the extra mile to create your own home workshop (for your car) is something that a growing number of people are intent on doing. This excellent paperback is packed with first-class illustrations and photographs to help ardent DIYers to meet their goals. Step-by-step it shows how to establish a home-based car workshop, with the primary aim of saving money, helping you to exercise your own talents and to achieve the detail finish you want. Scarcely a stone has been left unturned in the author's endeavours to provide a means to create the ultimate workshop. As one of the most useful books about automotive aspects that I have read in a while, I can recommend this one strongly. - Iain P W Robertsn, Freelance. This book sets out a clear route to establishing, equipping, and organising a home workshop. It seems to cover the whole scope, from selecting hand tools and using them effectively to choosing the best types of welding equipment for your needs, and building ramps and work benches. The book also contains some useful layout ideas, so that your workshop makes the best use of whatever space you have available and to help your workflow to be smooth and logical. This book looks like being very useful for all car owners with some DIY ability, whether they are working on classics or moderns. - Classic Driver (Monthly). Informative and easy to comprehend, it succinctly explains everything that is needed to establish a well-equipped workshop within one's home environment. For the professional restorer this study might be rather basic, but for the amateur enthusiast who wants to work in ideal conditions with the right tools to produce high quality results, this is an affordable and excellently produced publication courtesy of an experienced motor engineer. The photograph, too, is excellent and makes for easy interpretation. - SAHB Times. Even if you are an old hand at vehicle maintenance and have long experience in mending/improving vehicles in garages and workshops, I feel that this book would be of interest and use to you. Reading this book from cover to cover, I found fascinating and thought-provoking the information contained within its pages. - Update.
