Taylor & Francis Ltd Transcatheter Valve Repair
Book SynopsisTranscatheter Valve Repair discusses all aspects related to percutaneous and established valve repair methods. The book is divided into few major sections covering all four valves and other topics. Each section contains several chapters discussing everything related to that valve. Beginning with the pulmonary valve, since it was the first valve to be tackled in the catheterization laboratory, and then moving to the aortic, then the mitral and then finally end with the tricuspid valve. 1.5M US citizens alone have some degree of aortic valve stenosis, with half (750K) requiring aortic valve replacement. Aortic valve replacement, on the whole, is performed by surgeons, requiring bypass machines and technicians, as well as the usual operating team. The operation is expensive and occupies a considerable amount of operating room time. Mostly, the aortic valve is calcified and the usual option available to patients is valve replacement with a variety of choices, ranging from porcine valves to synthetic, for which there are many manufacturers. It should be noted that the aortic valve is the most problematic of valves. Percutaneous procedures are the answer. The bottom line is that given the growing elderly population, many more patients will require valve repair, thus increasing health care costs with not only surgical operations but also hospitalisation. Percutanous valve repair, whilst requiring a cath lab team, does not involve bypass machines nor extended hospitalisation. Like percutaneous transluminal coronary artery interventions (PTCA) has replaced coronary artery bypass grafts (once the golden standard), and now stenting having replaced PTCA and its balloons. We now see drug eluting stents replacing ordinary stents (though at a much higher cost. There will be a huge movement toward percutanous valve repair, which should presumably cut costs but also morbidity and mortality.Trade Review"an excellent compilation of a fast and newly developing field. There is liberal use of color illustrations. […] I think cardiologists, both pediatric and adult, and cardiac surgeons will find something of interest in this book. As this field develops and more clinical information becomes available, it is likely that future editions will include more outcomes data and will allow this first-rate book to develop into a classic." Springer International Publishing AG Cardiovascular Surgery: A Clinical Casebook
Book SynopsisThis clinical casebook is comprised of surgical cases involving the most important cardiovascular diseases in a concise, easy-to-read format (5x8 in trim size, like other titles in this burgeoning, informal product line in the Springer clinical medicine program). Each chapter is a case that opens with a unique clinical presentation, followed by a description of the diagnosis, assessment and management techniques used to treat it, as well as questions and answers (between 8 and 10) about relevant aspects related to the diagnosis and treatment of the addressed disease. The Q&A section will broaden discussion and increase the title's pedagogical value. The casebook features 40 surgical cases in the following thematic areas: Aortic Disease, Arrhythmias, Cardiac Tumors, Coronary Insufficiency, Congenital Heart Disease, Endovascular Therapies, Heart Failure, Heart Transplantation, Mechanical Circulatory Support, Pericardial Disease, Pulmonary Embolism and Valvular Heart Disease. This book will be prepared by the Brazilian Department for Academic Leagues of Cardiovascular Surgery, within the Brazilian Society of Cardiovascular Surgery (BSCVS). This department is the section within BSCVS that consists of the academic leagues of cardiovascular surgery from each university throughout the country. In Brazil, medical academic leagues are organizations that gathers students, interns and residents to discuss a certain topic and promote research and teaching-oriented extra-class activities, supervised by a group of professors. Thus trainees will have involvement in writing the chapters and the senior professor supervisors will edit and finalize the work. Basically, each chapter is written by an intern or resident and, ultimately, his/her supervisor. As the books volume editors, doctors Almeida and Jatene will have final responsibility for the cases and overall manuscript. Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG Zugangswege in der Gefäßchirurgie
Table of Contents1 Zugang zur Aorta thoracica.- 1.1 Zur Aorta ascendens.- 1.2 Zum Arcus aortae.- 1.2.1 Bilaterale transsternale Thorakotomie.- 1.2.2 Türflügelincision.- 1.3 Zur Aorta descendens.- 2 Zugang zum Truncus brachiocephalicus.- 3 Zugang zu den Carotiden.- 3.1 Zur Carotisgabel.- 3.2 Zur linken A. carotis communis.- 3.3 Zur rechten A. carotis communis.- 4 Zugang zur linken A. subclavia und linken A. vertebralis.- 4.1 Zum thorakalen Teil der linken A. subclavia.- 4.2 Supraclaviculärer Zugang zur linken A. subclavia und linken A. vertebralis.- 4.3 Darstellung der gesamten linken A. subclavia.- 5 Zugang zur rechten A. subclavia und rechten A. vertebralis.- 5.1 Supraclaviculärer Zugang.- 6 Zugang zur V. cava superior.- 7 Zugang zur A. pulmonalis.- 8 Zugang zur A. axillaris.- 8.1 Infraclaviculärer Zugang.- 8.2 Deltopectoraler Zugang.- 8.3 Axillärer Zugang.- 9 Zugang zur A. brachialis.- 9.1 Im proximalen Oberarm.- 9.2 Im distalen Oberarm.- 10 Zugang zu den Unterarmarterien.- 10.1 Zur A. radialis.- 10.2 Zur A. ulnaris.- 11 Zugang zur Aorta abdominalis.- 11.1 Zur infrarenalen Aorta.- 11.2 Variationen zum Standardverfahren.- 11.3 Zur gesamten suprarenalen Aorta.- 11.4 Zum oberen Abschnitt der suprarenalen Aorta.- 12 Zugang zur A. coeliaca.- 12.1 Rechter Zugang durch das kleine Netz.- 12.2 Linker Zugang durch das Ligamentum gastrocolicum.- 13 Zugang zur A. mesenterica superior.- 13.1 Infraduodenaler Zugang.- 13.2 Infrapankreatischer Zugang.- 14 Zugang zu den Aa. renales.- 14.1 Infracolischer Zugang zum renalen Aortensegment.- 14.2 Supracolischer Zugang zur linken A. renalis.- 14.3 Supracolischer Zugang zur rechten A. renalis.- 15 Zugang zur V. cava inferior.- 15.1 Retroperitonealer Zugang.- 15.2 Transperitonealer Zugang.- 15.3 Zugang zur suprarenalen V. cava inferior.- 16 Zugang zur V. portae.- 17 Zugang zu den Beckengefäßen.- 17.1 Transperitonealer Zugang zur rechten A. iliaca.- 17.2 Transperitonealer Zugang zur linken A. iliaca.- 17.3 Retroperitonealer Zugang zu den Beckengefäßen.- 17.4 Zugang zu den Glutealarterien.- 17.5 Vorgehen beim Obturatorbypass.- 18 Zugang zu den Oberschenkelgefäßen.- 18.1 Zur Femoralisgabel.- 18.2 Zur A. femoralis superficialis im Oberschenkelbereich.- 18.3 Zur A. femoralis superficialis in Höhe des Adduktorenkanals.- 18.4 Zur A. profunda femoris.- 19 Zugang zur A. poplitea.- 19.1 Medialer Zugang.- 19.1.1 Zum 1. Steinkopff Darmstadt Dialyseshunts: Grundlagen - Chirurgie - Komplikationen
Jaypee Brothers Medical Publishers A Treatise on Venous Diseases
Book SynopsisVenous disease is a condition in which the veins have problems sending blood from the legs back to the heart. Chronic venous disease is a long-term condition and occurs because a vein is partly blocked, or blood is leaking around the valves of the veins (MedlinePlus). Venous disorders are very common and whilst not usually life threatening, can cause pain and disability. This practical guide provides an understanding of the pathophysiology of venous diseases and their management. Beginning with an introduction to anatomy and physiology, the following chapters exam clinical manifestations, staging, and management options including laser therapy, surgery and sclerotherapy (injection of a substance directly into the vein). The final sections discuss more complex disorders such as deep vein thrombosis, chronic venous ulcer and morbid varicose vein. The final chapter provides a photographic presentation of venous diseases to enhance understanding of the text.
