Springer NHS Data Book
Book SynopsisAdministering the National Health Service (NHS) is asking to navigate without reliable and sufficient information. It is amazing how a national service costing more than £15,OOOM (1984) and employing more than 1 million has existed since 1948. It is likely that with better appropriate data there could be economies and great efficiency and effectiveness. Paradoxically there is much data on the NHS, published and unpublished, that has remained unexploited and unused. In this book we have taken up the challenges of showing the availability of data and its presentation so that clinicians, adminis trators, committee members and politicians can better understand the state and needs of the NHS. Why this book? Because it is not possible to make decisions without facts. There is too much data around that is unrelated to the needs of clinicians, administrators, committee members and politicians. It can be brought together to provide bases for de cisions and, more important, to show the gaps that exist and the need for more information. What does it contain? It includes social and demographic data, NHS facts and figures, manpower data on the use of the NHS and some examples of how quality can be assessed and promoted.Table of Contents1 Population.- 2 Socioeconomic factors.- 3 Mortality and morbidity in a district.- 4 Social pathologies.- 5 Inequalities in health correlates of social class.- 6 Structure and roles of NHS.- 7 Facilities and resources.- 8 Personnel in NHS.- 9 Education, training and careers.- 10 Utilization of resources and content of work.- 11 Prescribing.- 12 Psychiatry.- 13 Maternity services.- 14 Eyes and teeth.- 15 School medical service.- 16 Quality and outcomes.- 17 Complaints.- 18 Costs.

Taylor & Francis Ltd Transcatheter Valve Repair
Book SynopsisTranscatheter Valve Repair discusses all aspects related to percutaneous and established valve repair methods. The book is divided into few major sections covering all four valves and other topics. Each section contains several chapters discussing everything related to that valve. Beginning with the pulmonary valve, since it was the first valve to be tackled in the catheterization laboratory, and then moving to the aortic, then the mitral and then finally end with the tricuspid valve. 1.5M US citizens alone have some degree of aortic valve stenosis, with half (750K) requiring aortic valve replacement. Aortic valve replacement, on the whole, is performed by surgeons, requiring bypass machines and technicians, as well as the usual operating team. The operation is expensive and occupies a considerable amount of operating room time. Mostly, the aortic valve is calcified and the usual option available to patients is valve replacement with a variety of choices, ranging from porcine valves to synthetic, for which there are many manufacturers. It should be noted that the aortic valve is the most problematic of valves. Percutaneous procedures are the answer. The bottom line is that given the growing elderly population, many more patients will require valve repair, thus increasing health care costs with not only surgical operations but also hospitalisation. Percutanous valve repair, whilst requiring a cath lab team, does not involve bypass machines nor extended hospitalisation. Like percutaneous transluminal coronary artery interventions (PTCA) has replaced coronary artery bypass grafts (once the golden standard), and now stenting having replaced PTCA and its balloons. We now see drug eluting stents replacing ordinary stents (though at a much higher cost. There will be a huge movement toward percutanous valve repair, which should presumably cut costs but also morbidity and mortality.Trade Review"an excellent compilation of a fast and newly developing field. There is liberal use of color illustrations. […] I think cardiologists, both pediatric and adult, and cardiac surgeons will find something of interest in this book. As this field develops and more clinical information becomes available, it is likely that future editions will include more outcomes data and will allow this first-rate book to develop into a classic." Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG Zugangswege in der Gefäßchirurgie
Table of Contents1 Zugang zur Aorta thoracica.- 1.1 Zur Aorta ascendens.- 1.2 Zum Arcus aortae.- 1.2.1 Bilaterale transsternale Thorakotomie.- 1.2.2 Türflügelincision.- 1.3 Zur Aorta descendens.- 2 Zugang zum Truncus brachiocephalicus.- 3 Zugang zu den Carotiden.- 3.1 Zur Carotisgabel.- 3.2 Zur linken A. carotis communis.- 3.3 Zur rechten A. carotis communis.- 4 Zugang zur linken A. subclavia und linken A. vertebralis.- 4.1 Zum thorakalen Teil der linken A. subclavia.- 4.2 Supraclaviculärer Zugang zur linken A. subclavia und linken A. vertebralis.- 4.3 Darstellung der gesamten linken A. subclavia.- 5 Zugang zur rechten A. subclavia und rechten A. vertebralis.- 5.1 Supraclaviculärer Zugang.- 6 Zugang zur V. cava superior.- 7 Zugang zur A. pulmonalis.- 8 Zugang zur A. axillaris.- 8.1 Infraclaviculärer Zugang.- 8.2 Deltopectoraler Zugang.- 8.3 Axillärer Zugang.- 9 Zugang zur A. brachialis.- 9.1 Im proximalen Oberarm.- 9.2 Im distalen Oberarm.- 10 Zugang zu den Unterarmarterien.- 10.1 Zur A. radialis.- 10.2 Zur A. ulnaris.- 11 Zugang zur Aorta abdominalis.- 11.1 Zur infrarenalen Aorta.- 11.2 Variationen zum Standardverfahren.- 11.3 Zur gesamten suprarenalen Aorta.- 11.4 Zum oberen Abschnitt der suprarenalen Aorta.- 12 Zugang zur A. coeliaca.- 12.1 Rechter Zugang durch das kleine Netz.- 12.2 Linker Zugang durch das Ligamentum gastrocolicum.- 13 Zugang zur A. mesenterica superior.- 13.1 Infraduodenaler Zugang.- 13.2 Infrapankreatischer Zugang.- 14 Zugang zu den Aa. renales.- 14.1 Infracolischer Zugang zum renalen Aortensegment.- 14.2 Supracolischer Zugang zur linken A. renalis.- 14.3 Supracolischer Zugang zur rechten A. renalis.- 15 Zugang zur V. cava inferior.- 15.1 Retroperitonealer Zugang.- 15.2 Transperitonealer Zugang.- 15.3 Zugang zur suprarenalen V. cava inferior.- 16 Zugang zur V. portae.- 17 Zugang zu den Beckengefäßen.- 17.1 Transperitonealer Zugang zur rechten A. iliaca.- 17.2 Transperitonealer Zugang zur linken A. iliaca.- 17.3 Retroperitonealer Zugang zu den Beckengefäßen.- 17.4 Zugang zu den Glutealarterien.- 17.5 Vorgehen beim Obturatorbypass.- 18 Zugang zu den Oberschenkelgefäßen.- 18.1 Zur Femoralisgabel.- 18.2 Zur A. femoralis superficialis im Oberschenkelbereich.- 18.3 Zur A. femoralis superficialis in Höhe des Adduktorenkanals.- 18.4 Zur A. profunda femoris.- 19 Zugang zur A. poplitea.- 19.1 Medialer Zugang.- 19.1.1 Zum 1.
