Springer International Publishing AG An Illustrated Guide to Pediatric Urology
Book SynopsisThis book is vital for physicians caring for young patients with urological conditions, as a quick reference book that is easy to read and well-illustrated. Pediatric urological conditions are fairly common, and infants and children are seen on daily basis with urological problems either in clinics or in hospitals. This book is useful to general surgeons, pediatricians, pediatric surgeons, fellows, residents, general physicians and family physicians, medical students and nurses. The Editor has gained experience in the diagnosis and management of various urological problems in infants and children, working in busy hospital over the last 25 years. Trade Review“A useful addition to the bookshelf and in particular to that of speciality trainees (urology or paediatric surgery) who may be undergoing exit exams, due to the pictorial illustrations which may assist with viva practice.” (Neil Featherstone, urologynews, urologynews.uk.com, May, 1, 2018)“This textbook is easy to read and well-illustrated. Each chapter displays many photographs and hand drawn figures. All paediatricians and urologists involved in paediatric surgery will be satisfied with this excellent work, which can be also recommended to trainees.” (European Urology Today, Vol. 29 (4), August-September, 2017)“It encompasses urological development, congenital and acquired problems, most of which are very specific to childhood, renal tumors of childhood, and reaches into areas of pediatric general surgery and gynecology that are proximate to the urological system. … This is a large, well done book that is also a fast and definitive read on all things related to childhood urology. Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG Adrenal Glands: Diagnostic Aspects and Surgical Therapy
Book Synopsis- Over 200 exquisite illustrations, ranging from intraoperative photographs, line drawings, diagnostic images, pathology slides, tables and graphs are available to make each case discussed comprehensible and easy to follow. - Traditional and novel therapeutic recommendations are introduced and the latest developments in minimal-access operative techniques are discussed and reviewed. - Focuses on a teamwork oriented approach that identifies the necessary communications amongst the many medical disciplines when dealing with adrenal disorders. Trade ReviewFrom the reviews: "Plenty of thought has been put into the detail of this work … . there is a consistency throughout the book and the chapters are well referenced. The operative technique section is particularly well illustrated … . The chapter on adrenal sparing surgery is both fascinating and thought provoking. … This is a valuable reference book for endocrinologists, radiologists and endocrine surgeons. It is essential reading for the increasing number of surgeons who are gifted in laparoscopic surgery but ignorant about the subject of endocrine surgery … ." (D. Scott-Coombes, The Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Ireland, Vol. 3 (6), 2005) "An up to date, quite practical but yet comprehensive textbook focused on the field … . From its preface to subject index, this book is really exciting. In my opinion, the very first author’s merit was to approach the problematics of adrenal diseases in a very practical way; Every topic is addressed … by contributors with a well-established experience in the field. … Dimitrios Linos and Jon van Heerden stroke a decisive blow with their state-of-the-art textbook on Adrenal surgery. … endeavour that was well worth their effort." (Etienne Hamoir, Acta Chirurgica Belgica, Vol. 105 (4), 2005) "The various syndromes associated with the adrenal gland are described in great detail and this book brings together a wealth of experience of some extremely rare conditions. There are excellent up-to-date chapters … . The illustrations are clear and the text valuable. All in all, this is an excellent monograph on the surgery of the adrenal glands and is to be recommended to all who have an interest in the management of the rare conditions associated with them." Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG Therapie des Harnblasenkarzinoms
Table of ContentsEinführung.- Pathologische Anatomie des Harnblasenkarzinoms.- Operative Therapie des Harnblasenkarzinoms (Mit 8 Abbildungen).- Strahlentherapie des Harnblasenkarzinoms.- Systemische Chemotherapie beim metastasierten Harnblasenkarzinom.- Lokale Therapiekonzepte beim Harnblasenkarzinom a) Intravesikale Zytostatikainstillation b) Integrierte Behandlung durch intraarterielle Zytostatikainfusion und transurethrale Hochfrequenzhyperthermie (Mit 12 Abbildungen).- Transurethrale lokale Hochfrequenzhyperthermie des Harnblasenkarzinoms (Mit 9 Abbildungen).- Laserbehandlung von Urogenital-Tumoren (Mit 6 Abbildungen).- Integrale photodynamische Therapie des multifokalen Blasenkarzinoms nach Photosensibilisierung mit Hämatoporphyrinderivat (HpD) (Mit 6 Abbildungen).- Immuntherapie beim Harnblasenkarzinom (Mit 4 Abbildungen).- Glossar der onkologischen Therapie des Harnblasenkarzinoms.

Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG Nephrocalcinosis Calcium Antagonists and Kidney
Book SynopsisThe effect of calcium antagonists on heart muscle and blood circulation is the reason that they have found widespread clinical application for a number of years. Less well known, in contrast, is the effect this group of substances has on the kidneys, both on kidney cells and the blood flow through the kidneys. This effect was the subject of a workshop we organized in Tiibingen in June 1986. Different groups studied the effects of these substances, especially in animals, on the processing of calcium by the kidney cells and on blood flow. A possible explanation is that the calcium antagonists block the influx of calcium through special cell canals, especially the cells of the distal tubule. It is necessary to test whether there is a blockade or only a reduction in the passage of calcium. Our understanding of the effect of calcium antagonists is in large part based on the results of morphologic, physiologic, and pharmacologic studies of calcium in the kidneys. The particular processes involved in nephrocalcinosis are special objects of study with regard to calcium antagonists. This book presents the results of experimental studies of the effect of calcium antagonists on nephrocalcinosis and acute renal failure after ischemia. In this context, the clinician is particularly interested in the use of calcium antagonists to protect against the kidney in urolithiasis, in acute renal failure and during kidney transplantation. The book is thus of interest to urologists and nephrologists as well as pharmacologists. biochemists, physiologists, and others in research.Table of ContentsFundamentals.- Nephron- and Collecting Duct Structure in the Kidney, Rat.- Cellular Mechanisms of Renal Calcium Transport.- Factors Influencing Renal Calcium Excretion.- Ca2+ Antagonists — Mode of Action and Pharmacodynamics.- Nephrocalcinosis and Calcium Antagonists.- Pathological Anatomy, Etiology, and Pathogenesis of Nephrocalcinosis.- Clinical Aspects of Nephrocalcinosis.- Nephrocalcinosis in the Kidney of the Rat on Atherogenic Diet and the Effect of Calcium Antagonists (Nifedipine).- Influence of Calcium Antagonists (Nifedipine) on the Excretion of Calcium and Other Substances Relevant for Stone Formation in Rats with Nephrocalcinosis (Induced by Atherogenic Diet).- The Unique Chemical Composition of Nephrocalcinosis in Experimental Renal Insufficiency, Disturbances of Cellular Calcium Metabolism, and Protective Effect of Verapamil Against Nephrocalcinosis.- Calcium Antagonists in Acute Renal Failure and in Hypertension. John Wiley and Sons Ltd Focal Therapy in Prostate Cancer
Book SynopsisThis book comprehensively reviews the potential of focal therapy and discusses why the changing face of prostate cancer warrants a change in the way we treat men with the disease. It deals with the mechanisms by which disease can be localized within the gland and then the different technologies used for focal ablation.Trade Review“Whilst the book is not designed to represent a daily reference guide for the majority of the urological fraternity, it clearly does what it sets out to do; provide an up-to-date and comprehensive analysis of a treatment option that perhaps one day we will routinely consider alongside active surveillance and robotic surgery.” (Urology News, 1 November 2012)Fokaltherapie bedeutet Heilung und Organerhalt bei Männern mit lokal begrenztem Prostatakarzinom. Thieme Medical Publishers Inc MRI of the Prostate: A Practical Approach
Book SynopsisLearn the fundamental principles and clinical applications of the diagnostic and risk assessment imaging test of choice for prostate cancer: prostate MRI Although prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men in the USA, it can be treated successfully if detected early. Disease management has gradually changed to a paradigm that relies on close monitoring through active surveillance in select patients, as well as ongoing refinements in treatment interventions, including minimally invasive procedures. This has resulted in a critical need for a more exacting methodology for performing targeted biopsies, assessing risk levels, and devising treatment strategies. Prostate MRI has emerged as the most precise, state-of-the-art imaging modality for prostate cancer diagnosis and management, thereby creating an immediate demand for radiologists to become proficient in its use. Conceived and edited by a leading authority, with contributions from renowned experts in the field, MRI of the Prostate: A Practical Approach is the first book to tackle this important topic. It provides an overview of the fundamentals of prostate MRI acquisition, interpretation, and reporting. Readers will benefit from a wide range of insightful perspectives gleaned from years of hands-on experience. Key Highlights Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS) for prostate MRI interpretation and cancer risk scoring Clinical pearls on the optimization and application of prostate MRI for risk assessment, disease staging, MRI-targeted biopsy, recurrent disease, and active surveillance The emerging utilization of PET and PET/MRI for primary prostate cancer evaluation More than 700 illustrations with one entirely image-based chapter featuring educational case studies Radiologists will learn how to optimally perform and interpret prostate MRI, and referring physicians will learn to integrate it into day-to-day practice. This book is an essential resource for radiologists and radiology residents, as well as urologists, oncologists, MRI technicians, and other medical practitioners who treat patients with genitourinary disorders.Table of Contents1 Introduction to Prostate Cancer: Clinical Considerations 2 Prostate Cancer Pathology 3 Introduction to Prostate MRI Protocols: Hardware, T2-Weighted Imaging and MR Spectroscopy 4 Diffusion-Weighted Imaging of the Prostate 5 Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced MRI of the Prostate 6 Prostate Imaging–Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS) 7 Prostate Cancer Staging and Surgical Planning 8 Post-Treatment Follow-Up and Assessment for Recurrence 9 Prebiopsy MRI and MRI-Targeted Biopsy 10 MRI and Active Surveillance 11 PET/CT and PET/MR Imaging Evaluation of Prostate Cancer 12 Teaching Atlas of Instructional and Interesting Cases

Springer London Ltd Pelvic Floor Dysfunction: A Multidisciplinary Approach
Book SynopsisThis book provides the most up-to-date and comprehensive aspects of evaluation and therapy of female pelvic floor dysfunction. It is edited by well-known international surgeons with clinical practices within one tertiary referral institution, the Pelvic Floor Center at Cleveland Clinic Florida in Weston (Fort Lauderdale), Florida which serves as a National and International referral center for women with symptomatic pelvic floor problems. Recognized worldwide for its excellence, Cleveland Clinic departments of Gynecology, Urology, and Colorectal Surgery have combined their expertise in producing this text. Focused on urinary incontinence & other voiding dysfunctions, fecal incontinence & other distal gastroenterologic problems, genital and rectal prolapse, & other recognized pelvic floor problems, the book should be of great interest to the practicing Gynecologist/Urogynecologist, Urologist, and Colorectal Surgeon as well as Sexual Dysfunction specialist, Gastroenterologist and Physical Therapist. Trade ReviewFrom the reviews: "The authors wanted the book to translate the concept of a center approach to diseases of the pelvic floor where experts from all the three specialties that manage pelvic floor disorders provide their input. Indeed the authors were successful in getting together experts from their centers to contribute to a nicely organized book that translate their vision. Overall this is a well organized book that fulfills the vision of combining all the diseases of pelvic floor disorders in one text. I like the idea of grouping the disease entities under common syndromes to all the organ systems. I think that the cross talk among the three different specialties that deal with pelvic floor disorders will definitely help our patient population and I hope that the concept of a unified center/specialty will become a widely adapted practice pattern for the same reason." (Adonis K. Hijaz, Doody Enterprises, Inc. - COPYRIGHT 2006) "The information provided in this publication will be of interest for an interdisciplinary approach to pelvic floor diseases; helpful not only for urologists but for all practitioners involved in the treatment of these patients." (Paul Meria, European Urology Today, August 2006, page 33) "This book deals with the pelvic floor as a whole, mixing urologic, gynaecologic and colorectal situations. This is in accordance with the multidisciplinary approach many centres try to set up today for the greatest benefit of the patients. … it could be of interest for the general surgeon or the trainee, looking for an easy and complete overview of this field." John Wiley & Sons Inc Pelvic Floor Exercises for Erectile Dysfunction
Book SynopsisThis text reaches beyond the boundaries of mainstream physiotherapy into a novel area for physiotherapists and nurses. It provides information on the prevalence and risk factors for erectile dysfunction, the anatomy and physiology of normal erectile function and the role played by the pelvic floor muscles in men. A successful randomised controlled trial exploring pelvic floor muscle exercises and manometric biofeedback for both erectile dysfunction and post-micturition dribble is clearly reported. This is the first time that erectile dysfunction has been associated with post-micturition dribble due to poor pelvic floor musculature. Mac Keith Press Management of Disorders of Bladder and Bowel
Book SynopsisClinics in Developmental Medicine No. 170 Elimination disorders (nocturnal enuresis, urinary incontinence and encopresis) are among the most common disorders of childhood. Some disorders are primarily genetically determined, in others environmental factors predominate. Also, the rate of comorbid behavioural disturbances differs greatly from one syndrome to another. Because of this variety and heterogeneity, each disorder requires specific approaches in assessment and treatment. This book provides an evidence-based overview of functional elimination disorders. It draws on the standardisation and terminology suggested by the International Children's Continence Society. Short case vignettes, photos and line drawings, as well as questionnaires and charts are provided. To enable a quick orientation for clinical purposes, each chapter is followed by summaries, guidelines and diagrams. It will be of interest to all professionals working in the field.Trade Review"[This book] is a bit of a treasure trove. It is difficult to imagine a better-researched volume ... .It is jam packed, even impacted with good bits. It is fantastic to have access to so much information, which is so clearly authoritative but sometimes a bit tricky to navigate. If you are interested in this area you will cherish this book as a rock." (Disease in Childhood, March 2007)Table of ContentsPreface; List of abbreviations; 1. Introduction; 2. Springer International Publishing AG Consultation in Neurourology: A Practical
Book SynopsisThis book is aimed to bring the reader into the heart of the action of any health professional consulted for a patient with a neurogenic bladder (NB). Extensive textbooks of the NB exist but there is a lack of an actual practical guide for diagnosis and management of patients suffering from NB. This book provides a single source of information on consultation in neurourology. The text covers both urinary incontinence and retention resulting from NB dysfunction. The book also discusses complications of NB which include urinary tract infections, hydronephrosis, renal failure or autonomic dysreflexia. Sections address these clinical issues faced by physicians. This book provides a useful guide with comprehensive and practical instructions for all practitioners dealing with NB in their day-to-day clinical practice. It will serve as a valuable resource for those with a special interest in NB. The book reviews new data about diagnostic and management options. It also provides a concise yet comprehensive summary of the current NB guidelines from different societies. All chapters include the most up to date scientific and clinical information with the relevant level of clinical evidence and grade of recommendation.Table of ContentsTable of Contents Foreword(s)
