  • Management Books 2000 Ltd The Estory: Undertaking the Mobility Challenge

Book SynopsisThis is an illustrated celebration of the pioneering development of Formula E – the FIA-approved class of auto racing dedicated to electric-powered cars. The Founding Partners of Formula E decided that the event would be a platform to boost sustainable innovations, a gateway to the cities of tomorrow and alternative transport. After the very first Formula E season in 2014-2015, this dream is already becoming a reality – and the best is yet to come. Without fear or favour, Formula E is now moving forward with a critical and (more importantly) enthusiastic approach to encouraging and promoting development of the format. You will find in this book examples of innovations developed at Formula E, or for which Formula E is a fast-track to growth. The set-up of the race is in itself an exceptional event. Here we focus on what is happening behind the scenes. As you will see, Formula E is (much) more than a race. Year after year, we will update this book with new innovations and new exciting partnerships.

  • In Search of Nikola Tesla: The Revised and

Ashgrove Publishing Ltd In Search of Nikola Tesla: The Revised and

Book SynopsisThis is an account of the author's investigation, on behalf of the Canadian government, into the life and ideas of the eccentric genius Nikola Tesla. This is a completely revised and redesigned edition, with a new introduction by the former head of the Tesla Museum, a new chapter and a selection of photographs of Tesla and his work in search of the holy grail of electricity - the transmission of power without loss. As a student in Prague in the 1870s, Tesla "saw" the electric induction motor and patented his discovery, -the first of many inventions whose plans seem to have come to him fully fledged. He worked for the Edison company in Paris before emigrating to the US and battling with Thomas Edison himself to ensure that alternating, rather than direct current, became the standard. He sold his patent in the induction motor for $1 million dollars to George Westinghouse, who used this system for the Niagara Falls Power Project. Moving to Colorado Springs, Tesla worked on resonance, building enormous oscillating towers in experiments which still intrigue today. In later life Tesla became a recluse, bombarding newspapers with eccentric claims, including energy transmissions to other planets. Though he died alone and virtually forgotten, rumours gradually grew that Tesla had made further remarkable discoveries. In an attempt to replicate his experiments, people still build Tesla towers and puzzle over the possible link with low-frequency broadcasts which can supposedly disrupt the weather and affect the human mind.

Book SynopsisCombining personal experience with concrete fact, A.K. Hellum''s Listening to Trees tells the story of a man''s lifelong journey to salvage today''s declining forests. In this enlightening account of Hellum''s half-century career as a forester, we become privy to our environment''s fragile state-of-being through the manipulation of forests that have been stripped of their resources and improperly regenerated over the span of a lifetime. As Hellum guides us on his journeys through the forests of Thailand, China, Guyana, and the Philippines, we emerge with a new understanding of how the smallest elements of the world''s ecosystem can have a significant and devastating impact on the environment at large.
