Book SynopsisMichelangelo Buonarroti’s (1475–1564) mind was an incessant battlefield. The opposing forces of religious faith and pagan beauty warred across his consciousness. They also helped spur him to create a pantheon of artistic masterpieces. Considered one of the masters of the Italian Renaissance, over the course of his lifetime he produced the finest frescoes and many of the most revered sculptures in the world. Michelangelo possessed a genius as severe and uncompromising as it was fertile. He was renowned for his fierce solitude, yet was one of the great chroniclers of the human form. His anatomical studies are haunting in their expressiveness and precision, while his tombs, such as those designed for Julius II and the Medicis, inspire wordless awe and perhaps even dread. This letter, written in Michelangelo’s own hand, demonstrates with every stroke of the pen the refinement and passion of one of the greatest artists humanity has produced. Book SynopsisFrench artist Claude Monet (18401926) was one of the founders of the Impressionist movement and is considered one of the most successful painters in contemporary art. Impressionism, which originated in France in the 1860s, is characterized by the artist's depiction of the visual impression of the moment, specifically the transient effect of light and colour. After purchasing property in Giverny, France, in 1890, Monet set about designing an expansive garden according to the contrasts of colour and shadow, as though it were a painting. In a virtuoso display of flowers, this 1897 work portrays a vibrant bed of chrysanthemums from his prized garden.

Book SynopsisLet a swirl of rose amid gilt embellishment inspire you to write your chronicles. This cover design is based on a binding originally published by Salel Binder in Paris in 1514. The tome, Chroniques, was created at a time when books were evolving and binders were using smaller formats that were easier to bind.
