  • MP-ACD Academica Press From Dead Thoughts and Withered Leaves To Unexti

Book SynopsisIn this thought-provoking new book, George Ewane Ngide explores Percy Byshe Shelley's poetry and visionary insight of a millennial future, an everlasting spring or a New Jerusalem where man will be "sceptreless-just man." Shelley's altruistic goal, Ngide asserts, is to reclaim the universe's original harmony, to forge a new future where humanity stands unshackled from evil, both social and political. How? Through universal love, nonviolence, and even vegetarianism. Shelley's poetic vision is contemporary, a clarion call to purge life of misery and evil. Ngide reveals Percy Bysshe Shelley as a celestial troubadour singing of a golden age yet to be. His words, like the snake that embodies time and change, slither through our collective consciousness, whispering of transformation. As we embark on this literary journey through Shelley's millennial dreams, Ngide's research demands that we heed his call and seek the "Golden Years" that will return after the lost paradise. In Shelley's verse, we find not mere escapism but a roadmapa compass pointing toward a better tomorrow and the understanding that "Every discord is harmony not understood."

  • MP-ACD Academica Press Accident Touch and Privacy Climate Change and

Book SynopsisIn his investigation of the nature of madness and civilization, the French social theorist Michel Foucault expressed the difficulty most scholars have in addressing episodes of confusion that lead a society into acts of self-destruction and chaos. He maintained that one problem is "a realm, no doubt, where what is in question is the limits rather than the identity of a culture." The decision to continue as before, as if no changes have occurred, is a kind of madness, but the identity of normal people is associated with ideas of actions defined by the culture and performed as a means of demonstrating identity. Since today we have an evolving global culture that is an amalgam of European colonial history, the defeated servants of that history, and some of those who resisted, the nature of limited action is embedded in the values that led to the conquest of the world. This process remains a central motive factor in resistance to modifications of world economic institutions that might deflect the worst consequences of climate change for, at least, the next few generations to come.

  • MP-ACD Academica Press The Convergence of Science and Belief

Book SynopsisIn this compelling work, the distinguished French scientist Georges Mallet presents a chronological account of the major scientific discoveries of the past three millennia, guiding readers through the development of theories explaining the lead-up to the Big Bang and exploring alternative explanations to the creation of the universe. He provides insights from over 500 scientists and scholars from various religious backgrounds, including more than 120 Nobel Prize winners. The Convergence of Science and Belief challenges the notion that belief in God is naive, arguing instead that faith and science are compatible and complementary. Through trenchant argument, Mallet reveals how faith has often encouraged and stimulated the search for truth.

  • MP-ACD Academica Press James Madison Public Servant A Biography

Book SynopsisLong relegated to the shadows of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, the role of James Madison in shaping America, its ideals, and its institutions resonates in the very soul of our nation. A lifelong public servant, Madison was a critical if underappreciated architect of the American Republic. Gary L. Rose's James Madison, Public Servant shines an essential light on Madison's wide-ranging legacy. An accomplished presidential scholar and political commentator, Rose begins with a brief treatment of the Madison family's roots and early life in the Piedmont region of Virginia and his time as a student at the College of New Jersey (later Princeton University). It was there that Madison's values of democratic government and personal liberty became ingrained thanks to the teachings of that institution's president, the renowned scholar John Witherspoon. Rose presents Madison's captivating journey through the War of Independence, including his roles as a delegate to Virginia's constitutional convention, appointment to the Governor's Council, and selection as a member of the Continental Congress. Readers will learn of Madison's essential role at the national Constitutional Convention in 1787, which immortalized him as "The Father of the Constitution." As a co-author of the Federalist Papers, along with his skillful argumentation at Virginia's ratifying convention, Madison was instrumental in securing the Constitution's ratification by the states. Three public offices followed: four terms as a member of the U.S. Congress, during which time he authored the Bill of Rights; eight years as Thomas Jefferson's Secretary of State, and two terms as our nation's fourth president. Madison's presidency included a declared war against the United Kingdom, referred to by his political adversaries as "Mr. Madison's War." He also left a profound legacy in the formation of a political party committed to the principles of Jeffersonian republicanism. Rose's concise treatment of James Madison's public service is essential reading for anyone invested in our nation's political norms and institutions.

  • MP-ACD Academica Press The Olavo de Carvalho Reader

Book SynopsisThe Olavo de Carvalho Reader, a far-reaching selection of philosophical essays by the celebrated Brazilian philosopher available for the first time in English, presents indispensable writings that have generated an intellectual revival in Brazil and beyond. Following Carvalho's definition of philosophy as the "search for unity of knowledge in the unity of consciousness, and vice-versa," it lays out the historical roots of the current cultural crisis in the Westboth in the phenomenon he called "cognitive parallax" and then in the advent of the "revolutionary mind." Averse to utopian thinking, Carvalho's analyses are often responses to events that have shaped the history of ideas and their factual consequences. His approach seeks truth and expresses reality as Carvalho sees it, resisting pressure to conform to the collective and reaffirming the power of individual consciousness. In writings from a period of over three decades, this edition introduces the reader to one of the greatest philosophers of our time.

  • MP-ACD Academica Press Apologia Pro Beata Maria Virgine

Book SynopsisNow presented in a new edition, Apologia Pro Beata Maria Virgine: John Henry Newman's Defense of the Virgin Mary in Catholic Doctrine and Piety discusses an important theme within Cardinal Newman's Mariology: namely, his apologetic defense of the place of the Virgin Mary in Catholic doctrine and piety. Newman is not instinctively known as a Marian theologian or apologist, but as a number of recent scholars have argued, he should. This revised paperback edition of the book shows ever more strongly how Newman possessed a highly developed Marian apologeticone that grew out of his Anglican background and that developed into his life as a Catholic priest. Based solidly upon Scripture and the Church Fathers, his thought on the place of the Virgin Mary in the life and faith of Catholicism was, like much of his theology, ahead of its time and frequently out of step with the nineteenth-century Catholic milieu he lived within. This study of Newman's defense of Catholic Mariology and its place in Catholic piety is achieved through an examination of some of Newman's Anglican sermons, his Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine (1845), some of his private correspondence and, finally, his Letter to Pusey (1866). From a discussion of these texts, this book argues that Newman's Mariology was unique in its day and has proved prophetic in directing the future direction of Catholic Mariology. For Newman, the Virgin Maryrightly understood in her biblical and patristic contextwas "our pattern of faith," a model for theological reflection and development.

  • MP-ACD Academica Press Professors Speak Out The Truth About Campus

Book SynopsisProfessors Speak Out showcases the powerful stories of eighteen university professors from various fields and backgrounds, all of whom have been investigated by their academic institutions. These shocking narratives reflect the rising frequency and increasing absurdity of campus investigations, which often result from the expression of disfavored opinions that should be protected by inalienable free speech rights and longstanding principles of academic freedom. As the reader will learn, the investigation itself is often the punishment, though the process can inflict serious additional sanctions. Some contributors lost their jobs, while others have faced a variety of other unwarranted consequences. By providing a badly needed platform for persecuted voices in contemporary academia, this unique volume exposes the grave injustice that menaces faculty members today and calls into serious question the reprehensible bureaucratic processes that allow for such investigations. Taken together, the eighteen contributors show how a new campus McCarthyism is brutally assaulting academic freedom.

  • MP-ACD Academica Press The Great Convergence Consciousness Existence

Book SynopsisThe Great Convergence explores the existential foundations of human consciousness and the deep existential dimensions of reality, as well as their connection to the concept of "The Creator." Homam Al Safadi's illuminating study also examines the concept of "Consciousness" and how different levels of it whether "human" or "non-human" interact with higher existential dimensions. The text critically addresses the limits of human perception and consciousness, which are encapsulated in multilevel "layers" and elements. Al Safadi reveals how distortions rooted in the human self resulting from fear, illusion, affiliations, religious beliefs, and weaknesses of inner perception obscure our understanding of the true nature of reality. Through a specific deconstruction of existential sequences, from the first moment of creation to the emergence of our current world, this book sheds light on the profound connections linking consciousness to the cosmic order, religions, and the Creator himself. It provides readers with a new and original perspective on the nature of existence and the role of the mind within it. Building on this foundation, this monograph introduces a preliminary scientific-philosophical methodology and lays the groundwork for ideas and explanations that will be further explored in later studies.

  • MP-ACD Academica Press Diversity Dysfunction The DEI Threat to National

Book SynopsisThe diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) agenda that has captured American institutions in recent years is controversial. While many applaud it on ethical grounds for allegedly redressing past discrimination, critics charge that DEI policies are unfair and damage institutions, including organizations critical to U.S. national security. Until now, however, there has been no systematic study of the operational effects of DEI policies on the U.S. intelligence community. Diversity Dysfunction documents a purposeful effort by the Barack Obama and Joe Biden administrations to reorient the organizational cultures of our intelligence agencies toward the Marxist tenets of DEI and to degrade longstanding and highly effective practices in ways that harm performance. While the damage is readily apparent, we do not yet know the full consequences of the injuries inflicted by the DEI agenda. Our global adversaries have surely noticed the resulting weaknesses in U.S. intelligence but have not yet exploited them. One day, they will. Jettisoning DEI now is our best chance to mitigate the risk.

  • MP-ACD Academica Press The Last Who Remember Traditional Ireland in the

Book SynopsisFor nearly two decades, Brian Kaller has immersed himself in the communal world of rural Ireland and fumbled toward a more traditional way of life for himself while raising a daughter in the countryside. Kaller's prodigious work with communal elders, archives, oral histories, and memoirs has assembled a portrait of 20th century Ireland that can tell us a great deal about traditional cultures everywhere. The Last Who Remember invites the reader on a tour through rural life and shows how self-reliance and close communities keep the human spirit alive in times of desperate poverty and political turmoil. In each chapter, Kaller examines a different aspect of traditional life: childhood, schooling, eating, socialising, courting, and dying. He describes ancient crafts still practiced, from scything to smithing and learned many of these crafts himself. The Last Who Remember asks why people in modern societies report less happiness than previous generations, even with the convenience of technology. By demonstrating the social bonds and common rituals of Ireland's traditional society, Kaller questions what we lack in the modern world. By exploring a traditional culture, this book invites the reader to reexamine our assumptions about our own past and reevaluate where our society is heading.
