The purpose of this book is to offer a way out from this limited and debilitating belief that we've blindly accepted, by exploring how and why sin and guilt are illusions. Collective Ink Simplicity of Living by Faith, The
Book SynopsisOur God is a God of faith, and it takes faith to please Him. It is easy to have faith in the little things, and many Christians exercise their faith by what they can see, hear and or feel; but omit to realise that God revealed Himself through Jesus, and set Jesus before us as the One to whom we must entrust ourselves for salvation. This Christian book explains what faith is, and elaborates on how we are to mature our faith through a relationship with Jesus in order to experience God at work in our lives! This book explains through examples how we, as Christians, are to walk by faith and not be dependent on our feelings or circumstances, by realising that faith is simply the hand that takes from the hand of God.

Inter-Varsity Press Rediscovering Joy: The Dynamic Power Of The
Book SynopsisThe title, Rediscovering Joy, derives from Galatians 4:15 (NLT). The Galatians had lost the joy of God’s blessing because they had departed from the truths of the gospel. The Reformation - and the book - is an invitation to rediscover the joy of the gospel. Despite the common claim that the Reformation is either out-dated or divisive, its rediscovery of the apostolic message was a rediscovery of joy - a message that is as relevant today as it was 500 years ago and 2,000 years ago. The book has a strong focus on biblical exposition and pastoral application.Trade Review‘easy-to-read’, ‘a great book to share with a friend’, ‘If you’re only going to read one Christian book this summer, make this the one!’ * Evangelicals Now *new insight into familiar passages a hugely helpful book * Premier Christianity *Table of Contents1. Inter-Varsity Press Borderlands: Navigating The Adventures Of
Book SynopsisThe borderlands of change can be disorienting. We can feel adrift. We may enter them by intention, aspiring to growth, or be thrust into them by illness, relationship breakdown, financial crisis or bereavement. Whatever, they will always form challenging territory. Scripture, though, offers rich resources for navigating such landscapes. The Great Fifty Days from Easter to Pentecost form a unique map for the adventure of spiritual growth. Tracking Jesus’ disciples through these days, this book is for anyone undergoing transition or who seeks to grow in their faith. Poetic and passionate in language, frank and authentic about the challenge of change, it aims to inspire and stir appetite for spiritual formation. Combining insights from literature, psychology and art, it offers scriptural keys that can help and enrich any borderland season of life. Be equipped for a transforming journey into all the fullness of life that Jesus promises.Trade Review'This is a book for those who wonder about their lives, reflecting on meaning and purpose because they know that there is something more. And, wonderfully, it’s a book about Jesus’ life, and how his story releases us into the lives that we were meant to lead, but of which we might have lost sight. Full of hope for wanderers who seek something greater.”', Paul Harcourt, National Leader, New Wine England;'I have known Mark for many years and he is a pastoral leader of rare sensitivity; I cannot think of a better guide through the borderlands of life’s changes and transitions. Rich with scripture, theological reference and personal anecdote, this book is a feast for a hungry soul, bound to bring refreshment when you most need it', Rev Will Van Der Hart, Director The Mind and Soul Foundation & Pastoral Chaplain HTB;'This is a remarkable new book from a remarkable new author. It is beautifully written, brilliantly conceived, grounded in Scripture, and connected to culture. Mark Brickman is a learned and gifted guide who helps the church navigate between the borderlands towards spiritual maturity in Christ. Whether you are a spiritual enquirer or a seasoned saint, there is much to thrill and teach you here. Outstanding', Simon Ponsonby, Pastor of Theology, St Aldates, Oxford;'Life is lived in the borderlands—those in-between places that are often difficult to navigate, but yield the greatest fruit for growth in our lives. This book will help you navigate to the next place in your spiritual journey.”', Mark Batterson, New York Times best selling author of The Circle Maker, Lead Pastor of National Community Church;'I naively picked up this book anticipating a `light, uplifting reflection’ on Easter, only to find myself taken hold of, pulled apart, and gently pieced back together in ways I did not foresee. The words flow like poetry, wrapping around you and transporting you into the Paschal story as if you were experiencing those events with your own senses. I found myself lingering over sentences, reluctant to move on to the next paragraph, because so much life-giving truth saturated every page. Reading this book was like a deep tissue massage - exquisitely painful! Painful because God was working out some deep knots I hadn’t even known were there. Exquisite because it was done with such a tender touch, leaving a good ache - the ache of knowing that, though it may hurt for a little while, you are going to move more freely because of it. For those stalling out in their faith, this book could be a sparkplug for re-ignition, as you are invited into a way of discipleship that weathers the seasons and orients you to Christ, no matter how the road bends and the landscape changes. Thank you, Mark Brickman, for writing this book', Jo Vitale Dean of Studies, The Zacharias Institute; Apologist, RZIM;'This is a powerful and uplifting book. I was illuminated by insights from literature, psychology and spirituality, challenged afresh by the wisdom and authority of the Scriptures, and very moved by Mark Brickman’s own journey of faith and discipleship. His courageous honesty is a strong thread in a pilgrimage which is both personal and universal. Anyone who sets out on this `great adventure of spiritual growth’ will be enriched in the company of such a humble and sympathetic guide, who leads us along a fragrant pathway which weaves through suffering and glory, darkness and light, wilderness and wonder. We are called to self-examination, repentance and new vision but above all we are led into the presence of the risen Christ. On finishing the book, I felt a sense of profound hope, deep joy and, in the company of Easter pilgrims throughout the ages, a new sense of destiny', Murray Watts, Writer and director, co-founder of Riding Lights Theatre Company, screenwriter of The Miracle Maker and director of the arts charity The Wayfarer Trust

Inter-Varsity Press More Truth: Searching for Certainty in an
Book SynopsisTruth is a tricky thing. Today, ‘the truth’ is not just hard to swallow; it is something we refuse to swallow. Truth is too certain, too divisive, too arrogant. In response, today’s truth is often one of relativism: what’s true for you might not be true for me. But if it’s sometimes true, and sometimes not, is it really truth at all? Jesus claimed to be ‘the way and the truth and the life.’ But can we really accept this ultimate truth in an age of questioning, uncertainty, relativism and scepticism? In More Truth, young philosopher Kristi Mair explores whether Christians can be confident in the ‘truth’ in our anything goes age.

Watkins Media Limited The Shadow That Seeks the Sun: Finding Joy, Love
Book Synopsis"No new knowledge is required or acquired, Ray. No transcendental experience or higher consciousness needs to be achieved. When the recognition of what you are is seen, nothing at all happens. Why would it? You simply find yourself as you already are." After many years spent searching for the secret to peace, happiness and unconditional freedom, a chance encounter on the ghats of the sacred River Ganges heralds the end of Ray Brooks's spiritual journey. Interspersed between humorous and uplifting stories of life in Rishikesh, India are nine thought-provoking conversations between Ray and an unassuming yet extraordinary Anglo-Indian man. Ray's long-held spiritual beliefs are exposed and challenged, allowing him to see that his quest for wholeness has been a futile path: just like a shadow that seeks the sun. This book offers no promises or systems of belief. Instead, it clearly points to something that is ever-present yet completely overlooked: the ordinariness and beauty of our natural state of being. And it is only after we acknowledge that simple yet profound truth that our spiritual search will be complete.Trade Review"This beautiful book certainly deserves to be included with the luminaries of spiritual literature. Its essence presents the essential, non-dual understanding of not just the author and his many influences but the foundation of all great religious and spiritual traditions." --Alcvin Ryuzen Ramos, Shakuhachi master/ teacher and recording artist

Edward Elgar Publishing Ltd Spirituality, Organization and Neoliberalism:
Book SynopsisThis book brings together analyses from across the social sciences to develop an interdisciplinary approach to understanding spiritualities and neoliberalism. It traces the lived experience of social actors as they engage with new and alternative spiritualities in neoliberal contexts. An international group of authors in anthropology, sociology, religious studies, political science, critical management studies explore the contemporary flourishing of subjectivities centred on a variety of spiritual practices and imaginaries. The book analyses the social and organisational mechanisms that underlie the generation of 'enterprising' and 'competitive' subjectivities engaged in transforming inner selves and social environments in accordance with prevailing neoliberal economic rationalities. Contributions draw on a wide range of empirical settings around the world to discuss the role of subjectivities in organizations. The purpose of the book is to provide specific insights into how neoliberalism is resisted, contested or reproduced through a transformative ethic of spiritual self-realization. Researchers, academics and Masters level students in a range of social science disciplines, including anthropology, sociology, human geography, and organization studies will find this book relevant reading. Contributors include: I. Abraham, E. Bell, L. Cortois, S. Gog, A.-R. Kaupinnen, J.D. LoRusso, D. Miller, K. Navazhylava, A. Peticca-Harris, G. Shanahan, A. Simionca, S. Taylor, K. Valaskivi, T. Vine, A. YankellevichTrade Review'This carefully crafted book takes on a very complex and multifaceted phenomenon. As a project of genuine interdisciplinary work, it shows how serious intellectual resources can be mobilised to investigate complicated empirical material, often too simplistically marked ''spirituality in organisations''. Examples familiar to all receive nuanced conceptual treatment so that both cases and analyses become valuable exercises in excellent social science. Looking forward to using it in thinking through contemporary work, management and culture, as well as in teaching.' --Bogdan Costea, Lancaster University, UK'This volume provides a sophisticated look at the varieties of spirituality under capitalism, combining sociological perspectives on religion with a critical engagement on the topic. Flanked on its sides by an organizational spirituality literature that too-often treats spirituality unquestioningly, and a critical literature that reduces it to ideological and instrumental uses, this volume presents nuanced essays that take seriously the lived experiences of organizational members, while never losing sight of the social and political stakes of spirituality within a capitalist society.' --Gazi Islam, Grenoble Ecole de Management, FranceTable of ContentsContents: 1. Collective Ink Not for Nothing: Searching for a Meaningful Life
Book SynopsisThe early twenty-first century doesn’t feel like a promising time for an optimistic book when we are faced with the challenges of climate change, the rise of fascism and the emptiness at the heart of our consumer society. But now looking back at his life and inspired by the struggle of so many women and men for a better world, Peter cannot believe that it has all been for nothing. There may be no way of knowing for certain that the world has some ultimate meaning and purpose, but finding reasons to believe changes everything. Peter identifies as a Christian agnostic. “I don’t know there is God but I believe in God.” In Not for Nothing Peter reveals an exultation in the meaningfulness of life, a trusting belief in the mystery behind the world to which we can give the different names of God, a celebration of the wonder of life in art and music, a trust that everything we love is not lost in death, a commitment to moral and political action, a sense of community in church worship stripped of stifling dogma, and the mysterious vocation for each of us to become sons and daughters of God. If that’s what it means to be a Christian agnostic, it’s certainly not for nothing. It means everything.

Collective Ink Taking Heart: Experiences of spiritual searching,
Book SynopsisThe meaning and mystery of life is ultimately found in personal relationship, sometimes with another and, for those who search, sometimes with God. In Taking Heart the experiences of four people who are spiritually searching and looking for a direct experience of God are explored, and their different journeys through self-doubt to self-acceptance and to the heart of faith are discussed. These four people are neither especially religious nor spiritual, and nor are they famous. They are ordinary people on an extraordinary search for meaning. As with all journeys there is discovery but also an uncovering and a recovering. All heart journeys are an exodus that takes us out of captivity and are also the passion story which is at the heart of the mystery of faith, a journey through the very worst and towards the very best. And, throughout the spiritual journey, God is shaping and forming our inner life in the unknown depths of our heart.

William Willdblood discusses how our planet serves as a training ground for the soul, with particular reference to the present time as one of decision and a kind of end of term examination. It can be hard to discern spiritual purpose behind the upheavals in many areas of contemporary life, but it is there if one knows how to look.

Book SynopsisIn eastern spiritual traditions, samsara is often used to describe worldly existence, the cycle of birth and death or the transmigration of the soul from one incarnation to the next. But the concept of samsara is actually much broader and includes psychology, universal laws of nature, the illusory quality of existence, and even the question of free will. In Samsara - An Exploration of the Hidden Forces that Shape and Bind Us, the author takes a look at the various aspects of samsara that influence our everyday experience and dares to ask, is life a setup? And if so, does it purposely push us toward the truth?

Collective Ink God, who on Earth are You?: Mystery and Meaning
Book SynopsisThe mysterious ‘Other’ that many of us sense and that Christianity - drawing on the life of Jesus - calls God, is the starting point of this book. But, the Christian Churches are no longer conveying the wonder of the Christian mystery, the challenging nature of Jesus’ message for the world but also God’s deep, merciful love for us and the invitation into a relationship with him through prayer or through other spiritual practices including pilgrimage. Church teaching has become tired and routine. It should be fundamentally renewed and their institutional structures reformed for today’s world. The book’s final chapters consider how Christians should engage with the seemingly intractable problems - from environmental destruction to the inhuman exploitation of many people and the obscene levels of inequality - that characterize society today. An autobiographical thread runs through the text as the author, a committed Catholic Christian, draws on experiences and vignettes from his own life. The final conclusion is one of hope; God will not abandon us or his world, though we do not know how the future will unfold.

Inter-Varsity Press Human: Made and Remade in the Image of God
Book SynopsisBeing human is complicated! Our bodies, intellects and emotions are all God-given gifts, but we so often find them in varying states of disorder. How then, can we become the full bearers of God's image that we were made to be? In response to this profound question, Ros Clarke helpfully outlines what the Bible has to say about the nature of humanity. Addressing our status as created beings; our purpose in God’s world; our nature as body and soul; and our fall away from God, Human unpacks questions around the issues of identity, sexuality and gender. It then turns to Christ's example as the perfect human, and considers Jesus' teaching about each of us being loved, valued and redeemed. A teaching that remains foundational for all discussions around important topics like inclusivity, disability and race. Written with both humour and pastoral concern, and including a study guide to aid personal reflection and group discussion, this book will help you consider afresh what it means to be a human.Trade Review"Ros Clarke's Human is a fresh, insightful and, above all, inspiring deep dive into what it means to be us! But far from navel-gazing or indulgence, she offers the true liberation that uniquely comes from the God who created us. She helps us understand what we once were, what we should be and what in Christ we will be again. On top of all that, Ros manages to pack into a highly readable and accessible book a serious engagement with important controversies in the wider culture that affect us all. This is a really helpful book that I hope is read far and wide." -- Revd Dr Mark Meynell, Director (Europe and Caribbean), Langham Preaching, and author of A Wilderness of Mirrors, When Darkness Seems My Closest Friend and What Makes Us Human?"Human is super readable; fresh and relevant in content, clear in style - exactly what we have come to expect from Ros Clarke! There are honest insights on work, the body and soul, sexuality and many other topics. All the while, Clarke continues to unpack who we are, made in the image of God. The book doesn't stop there, however, but crescendos in the New Man, Christ Jesus, securing a new redeemed humanity for himself. This book is a great, gospel-centred and countercultural antidote to these mad days of self-made humanity." -- Natalie Brand, Bible teacher and author of Priscilla, Where Are You? A Call to Joyful Theology"In an age confused about what it means to be human, we desperately need books like this! Clear and accessible, rich and deep, biblically faithful and beautifully written, Human demonstrates the relevance and power of the Bible to show us who we really are and who we’re meant to be." -- Matthew Mason, Assistant Director, Pastors’ Academy, and Director, Crosslands Cultivate."Christianity has an incredibly realistic and yet positive vision of what it is to be human. This book will enable you to rejoice in your humanity and learn something new if you are not yet a Christian – or have been one for decades. Every chapter included nuggets that were new to me – Ros is one of those rare writers who always leaves you wanting more." -- Ed Shaw, Ministry Director for livingout.org and author of Purposeful SexualityWhat it means to be human is one of the most important questions of our times and has profound implications for discipleship, leadership, cultural engagement and evangelism. Ros Clarke masterfully addresses this contended issue, weaving Biblical truth throughout. Human is accessible, grace-filled, challenging and oozes gospel hope. I am grateful for it and praying that it gives us a firmer foundation in these uncertain times. -- Phil Knox, Evangelist and missiologist at the Evangelical Alliance and author of Story Bearer and The Best of Friends

Collective Ink By No Means Equal: Reclaiming the Soul
Book SynopsisThis is the age of equality, which this book argues directly opposes the idea of the individual soul as a spiritual reality. Equality is the rock on which our modern Western liberal democracies are built. When we talk of Western values, this is the one that underlies the rest. But what if this rock is made of sand? By No Means Equal explores the idea of equality and suggests it is an ideological belief with no foundation in reality. It may seem a progressive belief from the political point of view, but in reality, its acceptance is spiritually damaging, with consequences for the evolution of the soul.

Liverpool University Press Speculum Inclusorum / A Mirror for Recluses: A
Book SynopsisInterest in the anchoritic life in Europe, and medieval England in particular, has never been greater. And yet almost all the recent discussion tends to concentrate on the same texts – De Institutione inclusarum and Ancrene Wisse. Considerations of gender and anchoritism have been limited by the assumption that the reclusive life was ‘a feminine phenomenon’ pursued almost exclusively by women. This critical edition of a late-medieval English ‘rule’ for male anchorites is a timely intervention in – and stimulus to – an already exciting field. The Speculum Inclusorum is an early 15th-century Latin rule or guide. It is notable particularly for the careful attention it gives to discernment and the probation of the prospective anchorite’s vocation; for its frank discussion of the temptations and dangers of the reclusive life, including sexual sins; its deep consideration of the anchorite’s spiritual life of prayer, meditation and reading; its anticipation of the joys of contemplation that await him; and the ecstatic quality of some of its writing. The Speculum is a work of considerable interest in its own right. Within a decade or two of its original composition it was translated into English in order to adapt it for a readership of female anchorites. This book gives the first opportunity to compare Latin and English versions of the rule, the one intended for male and the other for female anchorites. It is the first edition since 1913 of this fascinating and important text but the first English-language edition and the first complete English translation to be published. It is an important contribution to the ongoing debates about spirituality and religious institutions in the post-Wycliffe, post-Arundel church.Table of Contents Acknowledgements Abbreviations INTRODUCTION General introduction - Rules for anchorites - Men, masculinity and the anchoritic vocation - Previous editions Manuscripts - Descriptions of extant manuscripts - Lost manuscripts - Relationship of manuscripts Author and readers - Speculum Inclusorum - A Mirror for Recluses This edition The Texts Critical Apparatus Notes to the Texts Appendix to the Notes to the Texts: annotations to base manuscripts Bibliography

Inter-Varsity Press Hearing God's words: Exploring Biblical
Book SynopsisMany discussions of Christian spirituality draw on a range of traditions and 'disciplines'. However, little attention appears to have been given to the Bible itself as a source of spirituality, or to its teaching on this theme. Furthermore, a common assumption is that the evangelical tradition has little to offer in the area of spirituality. In response, Peter Adam urges us to renew our confidence in a biblical model of spirituality, and to test our spirituality by the Bible. Drawing on a selection of Old and New Testament texts, along with significant insights from the Christian tradition, he expounds the shape and structure of a gospel-centred 'spirituality of the Word', through which we receive the life that God gives, and know God himself.

Inter-Varsity Press Longing for more: A Woman'S Path To
Book SynopsisIt used to be that a woman's choices were fairly simple: she went to school, got married, stayed married to the same man - for better or worse - and raised children. Standards of conduct and morality were widely accepted, and generally we knew what was expected. This is no longer the case. Today we can have a career, full-time or part-time, at home or away from home, or we can focus our energy and time solely on family and volunteer work. We can get married or stay single, have children - the 'regular way' or through adoption - or not. But choices do not necessarily make life easier - they often make life more difficult, because they produce guilt, self-doubt and stress. With compassion and insight Ruth Haley Barton identifies the pressure exerted on Christian women - by church, culture and from within - and the radical call of Christ to each of us to be free. Exploring eleven freedoms available in Jesus, she shows how Christian women can respond to the genuinely liberating call of Christ on their lives.

Liverpool University Press The Visions of Isobel Gowdie: Magic, Witchcraft
Book SynopsisThe confessions of Isobel Gowdie are widely recognised as the most extraordinary on record in Britain. Their descriptive power and vivid imagery have attracted considerable interest on both academic and popular levels. Among historians, the confessions are celebrated for providing a unique insight into the way fairy beliefs and witch beliefs interacted in the early modern mind; more controversially, they are also cited as evidence for the existence of Shamanistic visionary traditions, of pre-Christian origin, in Scotland in this period. On a popular level the confessions of Isobel Gowdie have, above any other British witch-trial records, influenced the formation of the ritual traditions of Wicca. The author's discovery of the original trial records (currently being authenticated by the National Archives of Scotland), deemed lost for nearly 200 years, provides a starting point for an interdisciplinary look at the confessions and the woman behind them. Using historical, psychological, comparative religious and anthropological perspectives this book sets out to separate the voice of Isobel Gowdie from that of her interrogators, and to determine the experiences and beliefs which may have generated her confessions. The book explores: How far did those accused of witchcraft self-consciously practice harmful magic? Did they really believe themselves to have made a Pact with an envisioned Devil? Did they ever participate in ecstatic cult rituals? The author argues that close analysis of Isobel's testimony supports the view that in seventeenth-century Britain popular spirituality was shaped by a deep interaction between Christian teachings and shamanistic visionary traditions, of pre-Christian origin. These findings confirm the value of witchcraft confessions as unique windows into the complexities of the early modern religious imagination.Trade Review"Wilby says everything there is to say about Gowdie, and then some." - Fortean Times January 2011"This is in my opinion the finest reconstruction of the thought-world of somebody accused in an early modern witch trial yet made, making sense of elements that most people would find wholly fantastic." (Ronald Hutton, Pomegranate)"Wilby's book is immensely engaging and rich with the promise of allowing us a better understanding of witches and their craft, particularly in the north of Scotland ... this book makes an invaluable contribution to its field of study, and everyone involved in writing about witches and witchcraft should be sure to read it." (Peter Maxwell-Stuart, Journal of British Studies)"Wilby's study constitutes a major contribution and advance in witchcraft studies in general she has resurrected one form of witchcraft, and by implication witchcraft in general, from being an invention of maniacal Christian inquisitors into a credible form of spirituality which must be considered by any researcher in the field of comparative religion." (Clive Tolley, Shaman: Journal of the International Society for Shamanistic Research)"Wilby restores agency and vitality to those individuals who are so often portrayed as the passive victims of a state or patriarchy-driven witch hunt, and offers a significant contribution to the field of witchcraft studies." (Sierra Dye, International Review of Scottish Studies)"In the end, this book does what good research should: provide us with provocative, original interpretations and raise questions for further exploration." Collective Ink Scarlet Cord, The – Conversations With God`s
Book SynopsisThe Scarlet Cord: Conversations With God's Chosen Women tells the story of biblical women in a new way, drawing the reader further down her spiritual path and closer to Christ. And here is why: for too long, women in the Bible have been demonized, sanctified or simply misunderstood, leaving highly stereotyped figures in their wake. As a result, passionate, faithful and bright individuals, from Eve to Ruth to Mary Magdalene, have lost meaning for many contemporary Christians and non-Christians alike. Here, through storytelling and artwork, twelve compelling women of the Bible invite readers to step further into the sacred circle of God's people, deepening their faith and joy in all of creation. That circle offers more than peace. It offers health, healing, and the knowledge that other women have also trod broken and jagged paths in their search for wholeness. By taking this step, the reader will discover that challenges experienced by biblical women are not so different from her own, including infertility, warfare, hunger, old age, grief and sexual conflict.Trade ReviewLindsay Hardin Freeman brings twelve of these women to life, giving them voices of their own. In the manner of the Jewish Midrash, she adds color, detail, and dialogue to the brief biblical accounts and endows these women with nuanced and believable psychological profiles. As we hear familiar stories told in new ways, we discover layers of meaning previously overlooked. Reflection questions at the end of each chapter will facilitate group study and discussion. (Richard H. Schmidt, Editor & Director, Forward Movement Publications) Women of every faith in the Congo and Darfur, Afghanistan and Pakistan, and to a meaningful degree, everywhere on the planet, are still struggling and suffering. Thus, this re-articulation of the Biblical stories, as it underscores dignity, respect and support for women, is as timely today as ever. May this insightful and heartwarming endeavor be a vigorous reminder of human potential and justice. Collective Ink Wisdom from Franciscan Italy – The Primacy of
Book SynopsisDavid Torkington tells the story of a small group of secular Franciscans on pilgrimage in Franciscan Italy led by the hermit Peter Calvay. The book shows how the essence of Christian spirituality is restored by Francis and details the implications of the revelation of the Primacy of Love received by Francis moments before he received the Stigmata. It then explains how this is the starting point for St Bonaventure's spirituality and John Duns Scotus' Mystical Theology of love. This profound theology is detailed with consummate clarity and made practical in the lives of two of the pilgrims who commit themselves to each other for life.Trade ReviewThis is the best book on Franciscan Spirituality that I have ever read. Its teaching on the Primacy of Love is revolutionary and will make all Christians realise how far they have strayed from their origins. It should be mandatory reading for all who call themselves Christians. (Emilia Tyler, Past President of the Third Order of St Francis (Florentine Province))

Book SynopsisPsyche, Self and Soul is a many faceted exploration of the relationship of psychotherapy and spirituality. Introducing the term 'an everyday transcendence', Gargiulo studies the silent alone space of each individual and relates a psychoanalytic exploration to a spiritual journey. Calling on the thought of philosophers, theologians, scientists and analysts, the text gives a new framework for understanding psychoanalysis and spirituality grounded in the here and now as well as a psychoanalysis that respects mystery, justice and civility. The clinical cases demonstrate how each patient's task must be understood as individualized, and consequently, how the analyst/therapist must creatively adapt clinical technique. D.W. Winnicott's thoughts are applied throughout the text and are given a comprehensive summary in the final chapters.Trade Review"What a delight! Collective Ink God in the Bath – Relaxing in the Everywhere
Book SynopsisThis book has its roots in a very traditional understanding of God. In theological jargon, it's about God's omnipresence; God being everywhere. Because God is everywhere, we are, wherever we are, in God. It shouldn't, therefore, be difficult to believe in God. We don't have to struggle to get our head around impossible questions. We are already in God; so belief isn't like taking an exam, it's like taking a bath. We need to learn to relax and let ourselves be revived in God's presence. But looking more closely at what we find ourselves to be in, (including life, luck, love and person) the implications for our understanding of God are shocking and revolutionary. Here is a radical orthodoxy to give confidence to those who have given up on the fundamentalist expressions of faith that dominate the church today. Liberals are true to the heart of orthodox Christian doctrine on God. They are here encouraged to find their voice, demonstrate the deep roots of their faith, and above all, enjoy it.Trade ReviewThis little book is destined to become a spiritual classic... For those who have been put off by propositional Christianity, this is the perfect antidote. A wonderfully refreshing and invigorating reading of Christianity. Nigel Leaves, author of Odyssey and Surfing on the Sea of Faith Stephen Mitchell is so entertaining that you don't at first realise how subtle he is. He's out to change the way we think - and to show that religious thought is still very much alive. Don Cupitt, Emmanuel College, Cambridge This is a bold and innovative new way of writing anthropology from a theological perspective...
