Oxford University Press Carols for Choirs 5
Book Synopsisfor SATB, accompanied and unaccompaniedTo celebrate the 50th anniversary of the publication of Carols for Choirs 1, OUP presents a new volume in this ground-breaking series. Carols for Choirs 5 continues the tradition of its predecessors by providing a complete resource for choirs from Advent through to Epiphany. Featuring brand new carols and arrangements of classic tunes, the collection showcases the very best established and new names in choral composition today, both in the UK and world-wide.Trade ReviewWith the publication of Carols for Choirs 5 there has never been a better time to consider upgrading those worn-out green copies to shiny new gold ones . . . The collection successfully captures a balance of choral styles indicative of this decade with nothing out of place. While messrs Rutter and Willcocks are represented, nothing is reproduced from earlier volumes; CC5 represents excellent value for money. * Rupert Gough, Choir & Organ November 2011 *It is a wonderful collection: order a copy right away! * Philip Brunelle , The American Organist, December 2011 *The number of choral directors who can remember Christmas before Carols for Choirs is dwindling fast. The series was born in 1961, and fifty years on the fifth volume has appeared. Its pedigree is impeccable, and it fully maintains the high standards of its predecessors . . . This treasure chest of new and old carols should be in every choir library. If you need any further persuasion, turn to the end and play Thomas Hewitt Jones's haunting setting of What child is this? The carol is alive and well. * Rosemary Broadbent, Church Music Quarterly, December 2011 *There are some snazzy descants, which may not displace the best of Willcocks but are nice alternatives to have, and striking new versions of carols one had imagined done to death, such as Andrew Simpsons engaging take on I saw three ships. If anything, the balance by comparison with Carols 1 to 4 seems to favour new composition, with a whole fresh roster of composers brought on board there are outstanding pieces by Howard Skempton (Adam lay ybounden) and Gabriel Jackson (The Christ Child), among others . . . Carols for Choirs 5 is a high quality publication that fully maintains the standards of this illustrious series. * Matthew Greenall, Classical Music, November 2011 *Table of ContentsA Heavenly Song ; A little child there is yborn ; A Patre Unigenitus ; Adam lay ybounden ; Away in a manger (UK tune) ; Away in a manger (US tune) ; Blest Mary wanders through the thorn ; Candlelight Carol ; Carol ; Ding dong! merrily on high ; Glory to the Christ Child ; God rest you merry, gentlemen ; Good King Wenceslas ; Hark! the herald-angels sing ; Hush! my dear ; I saw a stable ; I saw three ships ; I sing of a maiden ; In dulci jubilo ; It came upon the midnight clear (UK tune) ; It came upon the midnight clear (US tune) ; Joy to the world! ; Lo, how a Rose e'er blooming ; Lullay, my liking ; My Lord has Come ; New Year ; O come, all ye faithful ; O come, O come, Emmanuel ; O little town ; Old Christmas Returned (or Hospitality Revived) ; Out of the Orient crystal skies ; Pilgrim Jesus ; Scots Nativity ; See amid the winter's snow ; Silent night ; Sussex Carol ; The Bell Carol ; The Christ-child ; The holly and the ivy ; The Sparrows' Carol ; The Virgin's Song ; There is no rose ; There is no rose ; There's a song in the air! ; This endris night ; Voices in the Mist ; Wassail ; We three kings of Orient are ; What child is this? ; While shepherds watched their flocks

Edition Peters Practical Method Medium Voice and Piano
Book SynopsisThis excellent singing tutor presents 15 lessons, all designed to teach the singer both vocal exercises and the use of the Italian language. It has long been thought that the Italian language is best suited to the art of singing, and in this edition, rather than use meaningless monosyllables, Vaccai has set Metastasio''s beautiful poetry to each exercise. The lyrics to this ''practical voice method'' are in Italian, with German singing translation by John Bernhoff.

Faber Music Ltd Piano With Jamie Cullum
Book SynopsisPiano With Jamie Cullum allows pupils to learn to play jazz from Jamie himself through these six lessons on his most popular songs, discovering the secrets of his technique and style. Jamie hopes that his new book will help inspire pupils to take up the instrument, and contains lesson plans for six of his favourite songs.Trade ReviewFor the price you get six jazzy pieces, tips, explanations and exercises, a CD, and the iconic Mr Cullum sharing the secrets of his technique and style. This did not mean much to me, but it meant much more to some of my teenage boy pupils. Goodness, how they loved it! ‘How would you like to play the piano like James Cullum?’ is the headline sentence and the answer was invariably yes. The book is aimed at Grade 2-4 standard pupils, but I used it for some grade 5-level pupils who had not played much jazz but wanted to. Jamie Cullum breaks down six songs including: I Get a Kick Out of You and What a Difference a Day Made. He explains jazz and pop techniques and improvising, and breaks each piece into short exercises to teach it. The CD has examples of the exercises, complete performances and backing tracks…it is an excellent book which should encourage quite a few piano students to explore this jazzy musical style. Music Teacher Magazine Products and Reviews Supplement 2012 There are already a number of music books that cater for those wanting to play Jamie Cullum’s music, but this is the only one also marketed as a jazz and pop styles tutorial…..Each arrangement is introduced by a brief lesson or two on such topics as swing rhythm, chords and improvisation relevant for the arrangement that follows. The content is demonstrated on the accompanying CD, so you can easily check if you’re getting it right…..The arrangements are well written for players at this early-intermediate level, containing no unnecessary difficulties or passages that require disproportionate effort to express their musical purpose. Faber Music Ltd The Ultimate Guitar Tutor
Book SynopsisOffers a comprehensive introduction to playing the guitar. Suitable for acoustic or electric guitar, this title features an introduction to TAB and standard notation; guitar techniques including tuning, power chords, barre chords, hammer-ons, string bending, sliding and left-hand damping; and classic songs from legendary artists.Trade ReviewSuitable for both acoustic and electric guitar, this step-by-step approach needs no prior knowledge of music. Indeed, the book covers all the areas expected from a good tutor, clearly illustrated, and with plenty of extra help and "top tips"! …… School Music Association, Spring 2008 Judged on its avowed intention of getting you started - nothing more, nothing less - we'd say this is as good a guide as any to begin tackling the fundamentals of guitar, and to have some fun into the bargain. As with any good beginner's guide, author Tom Fleming wants to get you into good habits from the off (hence the info on posture, correct hand position, the importance of tuning, guitar notation and so on). Guitarist, January 2008 Starting off on the road to playing guitar well is daunting, not least regarding what tutorial sources are worth your time and pennies. Try this then - Tom Fleming's The Ultimate Guitar Tutor. It's a bold title, but it does do a good job at priming you from posture to strumming rhythm exercises, and chord shapes to string bends. Throughout there are short examples to hone your skills and a generous amount of songs to learn by Elvis Presley, Nirvana and REM. As a tenner would rarely get you an hour's tuition with a guitar teacher these days, we reckon even if you have a few beginner books already this one should be added to the pile! Guitar Techniques, November 2007 Table of ContentsAll Shook Up (Elvis Presley); Stand By Me (Ben E. King); Brown Eyed Girl (Van Morrison); You Really Got Me (The Kinks); Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana); Wade in the Water (Eva Cassidy); Days (Ray Davis); Wake Me Up When September Ends (Green Day); Lyin' Eyes (Eagles); Evetbody Hurts (R.E.M.); Teenage Dirtbag (Wheatus); Faith (George Michael)
