Book SynopsisIn an updated new edition of this classic work, a team of highly respected sociologists, political scientists, economists, criminologists, and legal scholars scrutinize the resilience of racial inequality in twenty-first-century America. Whitewashing Race argues that contemporary racism manifests as discrimination in nearly every realm of American life, and is further perpetuated by failures to address the compounding effects of generations of disinvestment. Police violence, mass incarceration of Black people, employment and housing discrimination, economic deprivation, and gross inequities in health care combine to deeply embed racial inequality in American society and economy. Updated to include the most recent evidence, including contemporary research on the racially disparate effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, this edition ofWhitewashing Race analyzes the consequential and ongoing legacy of disaccumulation for Black communities and lives. While some progress has been made, the authors argue that real racial justice can be achievedonly if we actively attack and undo pervasive structural racism and its legacies.Table of ContentsContents List of Illustrations Preface Introduction: Race Preferences and Race Privileges 1. • Blood And Thunder

Penguin Books Ltd Blood And Thunder

Book SynopsisLiam O'Callaghan's revelatory Blood and Thunder shows that the rise of Irish rugby is inextricable from the tensions, debates and divisions of politics, religion and class that have defined modern Irish history. Despite the political partition of the island, Ireland competes at rugby internationally with an all-island team and with a bespoke anthem that nobody loves but everyone tolerates. Ireland has become a leading rugby nation despite its tiny population and the fact that the sport is only the fourth most popular team game on the island by participation. In Blood and Thunder, O'Callaghan traces the dramatic evolution whereby a rugby nation that was deeply attached to amateurism has made such a dramatic success of professionalism. From the sequence of events that led Ireland's private Catholic secondary schools to embrace rugby, to the controversies and crises that have shaken Irish rugby including the Northern Troubles, the Belfast rape trial, and the rising toll of head in

Scott's T.O.B.A. Time: Black Vaudeville and the Theatre Owners' Booking Association in Jazz-Age America is a scholarship of the highest order. It provides an in-depth analysis of an organization that played an important role in providing a space for entrepreneurs and talented individuals to forge an independent role for themselves in segregated America. Scott effortlessly combines the minutiae of a multifaceted activity such as vaudeville with the broader currents which were operating in America in the early decades if the twentieth century." --British Journal of Industrial Relations“Scott’s meticulously researched and exquisitely detailed account reveals the broad impact of the T. • The Dakota Way of Life

University of Nebraska Press The Dakota Way of Life

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisWinner of the 2023 Dwight L. Smith (ABC-CLIO) Award Bronze Medal for the 2023 Will Rogers Medallion Award Ella Cara Deloria devoted much of her life to the study of the language and culture of the Sioux (Dakota and Lakota). The Dakota Way of Life is the result of the long history of her ethnographic descriptions of traditional Dakota culture and social life. Deloria was the most prolific Native scholar of the greater Sioux Nation, and the results of her work comprise an essential source for the study of the greater Sioux Nation culture and language. For years she collected material for a study that would document the variations from group to group. Tragically, her manuscript was not published during her lifetime, and at the end of her life all of her major works remained unpublished. Deloria was a perfectionist who worked slowly and cautiously, attempting to be as objective as possible and revising multiple times. As a result, her work is invaluable. Her detailed cultural descriptions were intended less for purposes of cultural preservation than for practical application. Deloria was a scholar through and through, and yet she never let her dedication to scholarship overwhelm her sense of responsibility as a Dakota woman, with family concerns taking precedence over work. Her constant goal was to be an interpreter of an American Indian reality to others. Her studies of the Sioux are a monument to her talent and industry.Trade Review"This is a definitive, monumental work."—John Peacock, Tribal College Journal"It is no exaggeration to say that The Dakota Way of Life is perhaps the most important academic cultural study of Lakota/Dakota society since Dr. James Walker's early twentieth century work, if not of all time."—Akim Reinhardt, South Dakota History"The Dakota Way of Life by Ella Deloria is one of the longest awaited and most extensive studies of the Dakota peoples on the high plains to date. Published posthumously, Raymond DeMallie and Thierry Veyrié helped shape an updated version that retains Deloria's voice and original work."—Broc Anderson, Nebraska History"This book, edited and published long after Deloria's death, is an extensive ethnographic and linguistic 'study of the Sioux,' a comprehensive cultural exploration and a literary preservation of the Dakota way of life."—Jean A. Lukesh, Roundup Magazine“For its breadth and depth on the specific subject of Lakota ethnography—society, language, etc.—The Dakota Way of Life has no competitors. There is significant material here that still, so long after its recording, has not been brought to light by other authors. The level of detail is also a feature that sets Ella Cara Deloria’s book apart from other works. If Deloria had been male, white, and a tenured academic, her work would have been published when it was completed and would have come to be viewed as a seminal work in the field. It is a vital, necessary contribution.”—Emily Levine, editor of Josephine Waggoner’s Witness“Ella Deloria’s ethnography—unpublished for some seven decades—is one of the key ‘undiscovered’ texts on which the Lakota/Dakota studies field might rest and continue to grow. . . . The blending of ethnographic formalism with informal accounts, anecdotes, and personal stories gives it the sensibility that real-life observers of Ella Deloria often described: a combination of her serious commitment to record culture and teach it and a personal charisma marked by a sense of humor and a penchant for a good story. . . . This book will stand as the definitive version.”—Philip J. • Jewish SelfDetermination beyond Zionism Lessons

Temple University Press,U.S. Jewish SelfDetermination beyond Zionism Lessons

Book SynopsisTrade Review“An exciting, profound, and humane critical rethinking of Zionism as the ideological foundation of the Israeli state, Graubart’s alternative vision reinforces what Zionism might have become if its leaders had not opted for an exclusivist Jewish state necessitating the continuous repression, exploitation, and discrimination of the Palestinian people in their own homeland. The recent surge to the Israeli far right gives this fine book a timely urgency, especially for liberal Jews, who should be deeply disturbed by what has happened in Israel beneath the banner of Zionism.”—Richard Falk, Professor Emeritus of International Law at Princeton University, and author of Palestine’s Horizon: Toward a Just Peace“Jewish Self-Determination beyond Zionism is a recovery operation designed to provide tools for contemporary analysts to contend with the problems posed by the effective disappearance of diplomatic paths toward a negotiated solution to the Israeli-Palestinian problem. Graubart’s well-written and accurate summary of the sharp rightward trajectory Israel has taken in recent decades shows how many of the forecasts of the ‘Humanist Zionists,’ like Martin Buber and Hannah Arendt, have come true, and how decisive have been the ‘core pathologies’ that those thinkers identified.”—Ian Lustick, Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania, and author of Paradigm Lost: From Two-State Solution to One-State Reality"There is much to learn from this thoughtful, well-researched, clearly written exegesis of the history of what the author calls 'Humanist Zionism' and his proposal for an alternative to Israel in its current configuration.... Summing Up: Recommended."—Choice"In a particularly dark historical and political moment in Palestine/Israel, Jonathan Graubart offers a glimmer of hope for a brighter future by offering new pathways toward Jewish and Palestinian self-determination.... [T]he book makes a valuable contribution to the field of critical Zionism studies. Graubart advances a new approach that moves beyond Zionism while maintaining a commitment to Jewish self-determination. It highlights a well-articulated binational vision for the future rooted in both past ideologies and contemporary realities while also providing a fascinating new analysis of Jewish self-determination rooted in justice for all."—Perspectives on Politics

    Out of stock

Book SynopsisMichael Calabria is Director of the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies at the Franciscan Institute, St Bonaventure University, New York, U.S where he is also Associate Professor of Arab and Islamic Studies. He has published in the journals South Asia: Journal of South Asian Studies and Journal of Religion and Film. He completed his PhD at the Arab and Islamic Studies Centre, University of Exeter, UK.Trade Review"Michael Calabria’s The Language of the Taj Mahal is n important, unique and thoroughly engaging study of one of the Seven Wonders of the World attracts millions of Muslims and tourists every year. As its subtitle: Islam, Prayer and the Religion of Shah Jahan, indicates, while The Taj Mahal addresses the historical context, art and architecture of the Taj Mahal, its new and primary focus on its religious significance. Calabria masterfully investigates and explains how the personal faith and piety of Shah Jahan influenced its design and construction and how the extensive use of Qur’anic inscriptions reflect basic and core belief and teachings of the Quran and Islam in seventeenth century South Asia." * John L. Esposito, Professor of Islamic Studies, Georgetown University, USA *Michael Calabria’s The Language of the Taj Mahal is an invaluable contribution to the field of Islamic studies and to religious studies broadly. It offers a unique lens for studying expressions of Muslim faith and spirituality drawing on, as it does, a variety of disciplinary perspectives including art and architecture, history, and theology. Calabria sees the Taj not just as a “work of architecture but as text” (xii) which allows him to “read” the monument, thus discovering and then, based on meticulous research, explaining the significance of the mausoleum as a whole, as well as of the specific Qur’anic verses inscribed throughout the building complex. An important feature of this work is how it makes the key figures associated with the Taj come alive and facilitate our understanding of the time and place in which they lived. In effect, Calabria engages in dialogue with the Taj. Even as he illustrates some of its visible (architectural, historical…) treasures, its hidden (spiritual, cultural…) gems become manifest in the process (and vice-versa), revealing the importance of considering the wider humanities context in religious studies. * Irfan A. Omar, Marquette University, USA *"In this meticulous work, Michael Calabria unveils the spiritual dimension of the Taj Mahal by reading the monument as a 'holy text'. The author demonstrates that the Taj Mahal is not only a monument of love but also a spiritual testament of Emperor Shah Jahan, an elegant expression of his Islamic Faith that he approached sincerely but lived out imperfectly. The Taj Mahal emerges in the heart of the reader as a whirling dervish who swirls 'time' into moments of 'transcendence'. This remarkable book is an invitation to enter into spiritual conversation with Emperor Shah Jahan, his aide Amanat Khan and the Taj Mahal itself. I recommend the book for those who are interested in history, religions and mysticism." * Joseph Victor Edwin, Vidyajyoti College of Theology, Delhi, India *Table of ContentsList of Illustrations Preface & Acknowledgements Notes on Translation, Transliteration and Dates Part One: Historical Background I. • The Jews of Libya: Coexistence, Persecution,

Liverpool University Press The Jews of Libya: Coexistence, Persecution,

Book SynopsisThis book investigates the transformative period in the history of the Jews of Libya (1938-52), a period crucial to understanding Libyan Jewry's evolution into a community playing significant roles in Israel, Italy and in relation with Qaddhafi's Libya. Against a background of a reform conscious Ottoman administration (1835-1911) and subsequent stirrings of modernisation under Italian colonial influence (1911-43), the Jews of Libya began to experience rapid change following the application of fascist racial laws of 1938, the onset of war-related calamities and violent expressions of Libyan pan-Arabism, culminating in mass migration to Israel in the period 1949-52. By focusing on key socio-economic and political dimensions of this process, the author reveals the capacity of Libyan Jewry to adapt to and integrate into new environments without losing its unique and historical traditions.Trade Review"Dr Roumani uses a wide range of archival and oral sources, many of which have never been used before. Throughout the book, he reveals a mastery of the social and political history, and a fine understanding of the lives, hopes, fears and aspirations of Libyan Jews. His book is a testimony to their suffering and their fortitude." -- From the Foreword by Sir Martin Gilbert."Maurice Roumani has given us an impeccably researched, richly documented, and keenly insightful survey of Libyan Jewry's social and political evolution in the twentieth century. He brings to the study not merely the observations of a trained scholar with all of the requisite linguistic and methodological skills, but also the real life experience of someone who lived through the turbulent events of the period and was an actual witness to some of them. It is to Roumani's great credit that he is able to achieve an admirable balance of overall scholarly dispassion with the intimate poignancy of personal engagement. The Jews of Libya will surely take its place alongside the pioneer studies of Renzo De Felice and Harvey Goldberg." -- Norman A Stillman, Schusterman/Josey Professor of Judaic History, University of Oklahoma.Table of ContentsIntroduction; The Changing Fortunes of Libyan Jews Under Italian Colonialism; The British Military Administration: Hopes and Disillusion; The Role of International Jewish Organisations: Rehabilitation and Protection of Minority Rights; Exodus: The Choice of Israel; Settlement in Israel: The Pains of Displacement and the Difficulties of Absorption; Closing the Circle in 1967: The Final Exodus and its Challenges; Index.

Book SynopsisThe Creator’s Game serves as a potent illustration of how, for over a century, the Indigenous game of lacrosse has served as a central means for Indigenous communities to activate their self-determination and reformulate their identities.Trade ReviewThis book is an excellent contribution to the scholarly literature of Canadian political biography, partly because it invites readers to think seriously about its conclusions, regardless of whether or not they agree with them. That invitation facilitates an acknowledgment by the reader of the book’s critical strengths and laudable scholarly approach. It is a historical work but also multidisciplinary, combining features of political science, economics, and philosophy that reflect the equally complex and nuanced life and accomplishments of its biographical subject. -- James T. McHugh * American Journal of Canadian Studies *Downey describes the history of lacrosse as a “Trickster tale, full of anomalies, contradictions, and tricks.” He displays considerable writing and interpretive talents in demonstrating the importance of the game for the history and identity of Indigenous peoples. -- Lyle Dick * Canada's Journal *Downey’s meticulous and conceptually rich work offers scholars of politics and settler colonialism a crucial link between Indigenous nationhood and lacrosse that allows us to think of history, metaphysics and meaning beyond the settler states that have claimed the sport and the lands for its own. -- Audra Simpson, professor of anthropology at Columbia University * Canadian Journal of Political Science *Many readers will find this book valuable. It enlarges the existing framework for understanding lacrosse, and it should prompt readers to consider how other Indigenous perspectives could enhance this story. -- Janice Forsynth * Native American and Indigenous Studies *It is impossible to sum up this vital book in a short review such as this: it is far too rich a work of scholarship and cultural exposition to do it justice. What will suffice, here, is to conclude that this is a major work of insight and recovery; a highly successful fusion of European/settler historiographical tradition with methodologies based on Indigenous storytelling, faith keeping, and personal understanding. -- Allan Downey * American Review of Canadian Studies *Downey’s writing is approachable and jargon-free, appealing to both casual and specialist readers[…]this book is an exciting glimpse at what the future holds as Indigenous scholars bring Indigenous learnings to Western-style academia. -- Gillian Poulter * Canadian Historical Review *Table of ContentsAcknowledgmentsDewa’áọ’:gajíhgwa’e’ – Prologue: The Creator’s GameBaaga’adowewin – Introduction: A Trickster History of Lacrosse1 Tewaá:rathon – The Canadian Appropriation of Lacrosse and “Indian” Performances2 Metawewin – Colonizing the Creator’s Game in Residential Schools3 Sk’exwa7 – Articulating Indigenous Nationhood on the West Coast4 Ga-lahs – Box Lacrosse and Redefining Political Activism during the Mid-twentieth Century5 Dey-Hon-Tshi-Gwa’-Ehs – Reclaiming the Creator’s GameDewa’ë:ö’ – Conclusion: A Trickster EndingPágádowe – Notes; Yunęnrúhaˀr – Bibliography; Index

I personally took pleasure in digesting the history chapter first. The book affirms the beauty of Black women and, in particular, our natural kinky hair. It then flowed seamlessly into the collection of hair journeys told by thirty Black women aged 18 to 80. The Aleea Rae artwork on the front cover and sprinkled throughout the book is absolutely stunning. Hairvolution is not just a book, it’s a movement!” – Carol Ann Whitehead FRSA GGA, MD, The Zebra Partnership; “Hairvolution: It’s a wonderful-looking book and that’s half the battle… “ – Claire Hermat, BBC Radio London; “Over the past decade, the reclamation of Black hair by Black women through the mobilisation of online communities has paved the way for actionable change through campaigns like that of The Halo Code and the ongoing ratification of the Crown Act in the US. Hairvolution is a triumphant ode to this Afro-centric hair revolution. The book offers historic deep dives alongside interviews with the key cultural names, such as MP Dawn Butler and Doreene Blackstock (of Sex Education fame), to depict an intimate and critical look at what it means to recentre Black hair, even within white spaces.” – Ata-Owaji Victor, Stylist; “Hair is the one way most Black women express themselves and Hairvolution takes a look at the history and culture surrounding Black hair, challenging outdated notions of beauty, through to reclaiming its power and Black beauty and identity.” – Black Beauty & Hair Magazine;

Blood Legacy could change our frequently defensive national conversation about slavery/race' Sathnam Sanghera'Utterly gripped - An incredible book. Alex's work is my book in practice' Emma DabiriThrough the story of his own family's history as slave and plantation owners, Alex Renton looks at how we owe it to the present to understand the legacy of the past. When British Caribbean slavery was abolished across most of the British Empire in 1833, it was not the newly liberated who received compensation, but the tens of thousands of enslavers who were paid millions of pounds in government money. The descendants of some of those slave owners are among the wealthiest and most powerful people in Britain today.A group of Caribbean countries is calling on ten European nations to discuss the payment of trillions of dollars for the damage done by transatlantic slavery and its continuing legacy. Meanwhile, Black Lives Matter and other activist groups are causing increasing numbers of white people to reflect on how this history of abuse and exploitation has benefited them.Blood Legacy explores what inheritance - political, economic, moral and spiritual - has been passed to the descendants of the slave owners and the descendants of the enslaved. He also asks, crucially, how the former - himself among them - can begin to make reparations for the past.Trade ReviewA courageous, deeply affecting and excoriatingly honest account of his family's role in enslavement -- PHILIPPE SANDS * * Financial Times * *Renton . . . dismantles the myths with the efficiency of someone shelling pistachios for a snack . . . remarkable . . . an incredible work of scholarship -- SATHNAM SANGHERA * * The Times * *An important book . . . one of the strengths of Renton's book is that it takes seriously the issue of class . . . 2 in stock

Book SynopsisLondon is conventionally seen as merely a combination of the financial centre in the City and the centre of governmental power in Westminster, a uniquely capitalist capital city. This book is about the third London - a social democratic twentieth-century metropolis, a pioneer in council housing, public enterprise, socialist design, radical local democracy and multiculturalism. If governmental power is embodied in the Palace of Westminster and financial power in the cluster of skyscrapers in the City, then this London is centred on the South Bank - County Hall, the Festival Hall, the National Theatre, Coin Street and City Hall. This book charts the development of this municipal power base under leaders from Herbert Morrison to Ken Livingstone, and its destruction in 1986, leaving a gap which has been only very inadequately filled by the Greater London Authority under Livingstone, Johnson and Khan. Rather than fashionable handwringing about the 'metropolitan elite', this book makes a case for London pride on the left, and an argument for reclaiming this history and using that pride as a weapon against a government of suburban landlords that ruthlessly exploits Londoners.Trade Review"No one else writes so clearly yet with such elegiac intensity about the symbiosis that exists between history and the built environment, or the lives that are caught, mangled and realised in its midst.""Hatherley is a hugely knowledgeable and passionate advocate for architecture and planning, a cracking writer, and an undervalued figure of the left. For anyone daring to tackle social issues, Red Metropolis should be compulsory reading."“This book captures, like no other, the way London local government has been a tumultuous political battle ground and the breeding ground of radical political ideas and social movements. It stands as an excellent basis from which to launch the next wave of radical thinking about the future of the capital.”“Some of his suggestions – for instance, that London must stop growing, and seek to give away some of its accumulated power – may strike Londoners as provocative, but this is one of the few serious efforts at historically informed strategic thinking we have seen from the post-2019 left.”

Book Synopsis-- As featured in The Bookseller Buyer''s Guide Seasonal HighlightsA spectacular, vivid, groundbreaking work of history which takes us into the minds and lives of medieval women. What was life really like for women in the medieval period? How did they think about sex, death and God? Could they live independent lives? And how can we hear the stories of women from this period? Few women had the luxury of writing down their thoughts and feelings during medieval times. But remarkably, there are at least four extraordinary women who did. Those women were: Marie de France, a poet; Julian of Norwich, a mystic and anchoress; Christine de Pizan, a widow and court writer; and Margery Kempe, a no-good wife. In their own ways these four very different writers pushed back against the misogyny of the period. Each of them broke new ground in women's writing and left us incredible insights into the world of medieval life and politics.Hetta Howes h

  • Progressive Dystopia

    Duke University Press Progressive Dystopia

Book SynopsisSan Francisco is the endgame of gentrification, where racialized displacement means that the Black population of the city hovers at just over 3 percent. The Robeson Justice Academy opened to serve the few remaining low-income neighborhoods of the city, with the mission of offering liberatory, social justice--themed education to youth of color. While it features a progressive curriculum including Frantz Fanon and Audre Lorde, the majority Latinx school also has the district''s highest suspension rates for Black students. In Progressive Dystopia Savannah Shange explores the potential for reconciling the school''s marginalization of Black students with its sincere pursuit of multiracial uplift and solidarity. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork and six years of experience teaching at the school, Shange outlines how the school fails its students and the community because it operates within a space predicated on antiblackness. Seeing San Francisco as a social laboratory for how Black cTrade Review"By locating the everyday mechanisms of the neoliberal state in a progressive school in San Francisco, Savannah Shange brings the lived experiences of social actors often only talked about as 'Black and Brown bodies' into discussions of the afterlife of slavery. And in so doing, she reveals the fissures in Afropessimism and critical anthropology. Progressive Dystopia is scholarship at its finest and an essential contribution." -- Aimee Meredith Cox, author of * Shapeshifters: Black Girls and the Choreography of Citizenship *“Who's afraid of dystopia? Not Savannah Shange, whose provocative and audacious book exposes ‘progressive’ multiracial social justice initiatives for what they are: a golden noose. ‘Winning,’ she argues, does not disrupt state logics of captivity, containment, accumulation, and antiblackness. And fighting for utopias yet to be without attending to the dystopian present that is for the folks trapped in this ongoing settler-colonial catastrophe will not make us free. Instead, Shange applies an abolitionist frame to reveal how Black and Brown kids who defy their saviors, disrupt liberal teleologies, and map new territory make the road toward freedom by walking, talking, dancing, fighting, and thinking. Unsettling, persuasive, and beautiful, Progressive Dystopia is one of those rare books that will make you rethink everything.” -- Robin D. G. Kelley, author of * Freedom Dreams: The Black Radical Imagination *“At the center of Savannah Shange's powerful analysis in progressive dystopia: abolition, anthropology, and race in the new San Francisco are the multiple and seemingly conflicting forces brought to bear on the Black girls and boys who attend the Robeson Justice Academy in the contested space that makes up Frisco. Shange theorizes a set of ‘common sense’ ‘progressive’ logics that reproduce the carceral—what she names progressive dystopia and carceral progressivism—and then the willful defiance that characterizes the refusals and political demands of the Black girl students, in particular, who refuse to bear and internalize what Hartman names as ‘burdened individualism.’ This is a profoundly important book.” -- Christina Sharpe, author of * In the Wake: On Blackness and Being *"Progressive Dystopia is a discerning and devoted read for scholars interested in progressive politics, studies of statecraft, and abolitionist approaches to combating anti-Blackness. Shange’s work is a powerful project with serious ramifications for scholars across many fields of study." -- Julio Alicea * Antipode *"[Progressive Dystopia] is radically different from other school ethnographies. ... Shange operates in a different discursive universe. ... [It] is one of the most ambitious ethnographies I have read: it creates new territory for what to do with and through ethnography. It is a decolonizing act." -- Annegret Staiger * Anthropological Quarterly *“In her pathbreaking first book, Savannah Shange calls for an abolitionist anthropology that begins at the end of the world, with what Black folks teach us about how to survive the apocalypse…. This text will benefit a variety of readers. Undergraduates can learn from thorough readings of the Black anthropological canon and germinal Black studies scholarship. Graduate students will benefit from the model of abolitionist anthropology as ethic and methodology and ethnographic research that is at once agile, grounded, and accountable. It will also be of use to educators, activists, and anyone working within, against, and beyond the state in the service of Black lives.” -- Amelia Simone Herbert * Transforming Anthropology *"Progressive Dystopia casts an honest light on the realities of progressive educational initiatives based around social and racial justice. This book is a must-read for anyone who cares about the complexities and limitations of anti-racist efforts in the age of neoliberalism, and especially anyone with an interest in anti-racist or social-justice education.… This book would also be valuable to anyone interested in qualitative research, and particularly as an example of participant observation in an educational setting." -- Amy Ernestes * Ethnic and Racial Studies *Table of ContentsAcknowledgments ix 1. #OurLivesMatter: Mapping an Abolitionist Anthropology 1 2. It shows how our earliest ancestors learnt to enter trance states and the revolutionary effect this had on the way they interacted with their world. Moreover, by marrying the very latest research with vivid first-person reconstructions, the book will actually take readers back in time. In its pages we join Stone Age hunting parties, steal food from desperate, starving cannibals, sit eye-to-eye with a mouldy Bronze Age mummy and join the Celts for a feast where you truly are what you eat. The story of our past has never been told this way before and has never been brought to life with such vividness. This is the past as our ancestors would have known it.
