Baker Publishing Group The Forgotten Ways – Reactivating Apostolic
Book SynopsisAlan Hirsch's paradigm-shifting classic remains the definitive statement of the church as dynamic missional movement. The bestselling first edition ignited a conversation about how to harness the power of movements for the future growth of the church. In this major update, Hirsch shares significant insights gained along the way, provides fresh new examples of growing churches, and reflects on the last ten years of the missional movement. The new edition has been thoroughly updated and revised throughout and includes charts, diagrams, an expanded glossary of terms, new appendices, an index, a new foreword by Ed Stetzer, and a new afterword by Jeff Vanderstelt. Known for his innovative approach to mission, Hirsch is widely acknowledged as a thought leader and mission strategist for churches across the Western world. He considers The Forgotten Ways the guiding work to all of his other writings. The book explores the factors that come together to generate high-impact, exponentially explosive, spiritually vibrant Jesus movements in any time and context. Book SynopsisThe "Left Behind" series is about those "left behind" after Christ removes true believers, leaving everyone else to suffer seven years of Tribulation. This work assesses these novels and shows how the ultimate vision put forth by the series' authors inadvertently undermines itself as the series unfolds.Trade ReviewA timely analysis of a religious movement that is quietly exercising enormous political influence today. This work is both wonderfully written and creative. Book SynopsisArthur Malcolm, a stocky Aboriginal man in a maroon Fairmont, was in tears as the cavalcade drove towards Yarrabah Aboriginal community. It was October 1985 and the Yarrabah people were cheering him as he returned to the community as their new bishop, the first Aboriginal bishop in the Anglican Church. In White Christ, Black Cross Noel Loos interweaves his own more than twenty years'' personal experience with Yarrabah and other Queensland Aboriginal communities along with the voices of Aboriginal people, missionaries, and those who sat in the pews and on subcommittees and Boards in the cities, removed from the reality of the missions. Loos embeds the historical influences and impacts of the missions in shaping Christianity in Aboriginal Australia in the reality of frontier violence, government control, segregation and neglect. Aboriginal people on the missions responded to white Christianity as part of their enforced cultural change. As control diminished, Aboriginal people responded m

Nova Science Publishers Inc Missionary Sheroes of the 19th to 21st Centuries
Book SynopsisMissionary women are no strangers to the ecstasies, horrors, and humor of the human condition. June M. Dunn, RN-MSN was the 20th-century missionary in Haiti, Honduras, Guam, Russia, Saigon, Saipan, and Thailand. Her American family upbringing, science-based healthcare training, and humanistic effort allowed her to be an exemplary teacher and caregiver to the poverty-stricken. Her recollections offer inspiring, frightening, and sometimes comical aspects of missionary work. Select quotations and hymns give meaning to the spiritual and emotional impact of her calling. Personal photographs and paintings beautifully illustrate a life well-spent. In the final chapters, chronicled are five not-to-be-forgotten missionary women: Charlotte Moon; Mary Slessor; Amy Carmichael; Gladys Aylward; and Mother Teresa. These six heroic women (i.e., sheroes) and their missionary achievements are a testament to living for His glory with love and self-sacrifice.Table of ContentsFor more information, please visit our website at:https://novapublishers.com/shop/missionary-sheroes-of-the-19th-to-21st-centuries/

Canterbury Press Norwich Light from Within: Perspective on the Biblical
Book SynopsisA new and imaginative approach to the Bible as the archetypal saga of how God works among and within people at different stages of their growth toward spiritual maturity, showing how the Christian faith is (in Lesslie Newbigin's words) "the clue to all history — the history of the world, and the history of my own soul." The Bible is explored in the light both of depth psychology and of some years' experience of living and working in the Holy Land, where it all began, and where the biblical drama is still going on. Mission and discipleship are seen to be inextricably intertwined: something of great relevance in the Decade of Evangelism. This book will be welcomed particularly by those who work in the field of counselling and anyone concerned with growth in discipleship and with mission.

Oxford University Press Trinitarian Theology of Religions
Book SynopsisOver the last four decades, evangelical scholars have shown growing interest in Christian debates over other religions, seeking answers to essential questions: How are we to think about and relate to other religions, be open to the Spirit, and at the same time remain evangelical and orthodox? Gerald R. McDermott and Harold A. Netland offer critiques of a variety of theologians and religious studies scholars, including evangelicals, but also challenge evangelicals to move beyond parochial positions. This volume is both a manifesto and a research program, critically evaluating the last forty years of Christian treatments of religious others and proposing a comprehensive direction for the future. It addresses issues relating to the religions in both systematic theology and missiology, taking up long-debated questions such as contextualization, salvation, revelation, the relationship between culture and religion, conversion, social action, and ecumenism. It concludes with responses from foTrade ReviewShould be required reading for anyone involved in Christian mission in a multi religious world. * Donald Macleod, Evangelicals Now *A Trinitarian Theology of Religions is great resource not only for missiologists and theologians but also pastors and Christian leaders who are wrestling with the challenges of following Christ in a pluralistic world. * JETS *Gerald McDermott and Harold Netland, who separately have contributed so much to the evangelical theology of religions, now together offer us the definitive place to engage it. Darton, Longman & Todd Ltd Walk to Jerusalem In Search of Peace
Trade Review'Those who have read Gerard Hughes' book In Search of a Way will want to read Walk to Jerusalem. Nor will they be disappointed when they do so. To read this book is to meet a man with a passion for justice, peace, unity; a man with a lively and well-stored mind a deep spiritual life. The long trek of 1700 miles on foot did not rob him of his sense of humour. Readers will enjoy that, though they may not enjoy facing the stern realities which a reading of this book will bring before them.' -- Donald Coggan'I greatly enjoyed a Walk to Jerusalem with Gerry Hughes. It is a fascinating double journey of feet and mind with the common thread of peace-making running through both. Since it is recorded in book form, all the difficult travelling can now be done with him from an armchair.' -- Bruce Kent

Zondervan Sharing Jesus with Muslims
Book SynopsisIn Sharing Jesus with Muslims, author Fouad Masri provides a personal invitation into his life's work of ministering to Muslims. With Bible-based studies, conversation starters, insights into Islam, and countless stories, readers will be educated, equipped, and encouraged to participate in the call to 'make disciples of all nations.'Trade Review'Every Christian will benefit from this book. It will help you better understand your faith, and it'll prepare you to lovingly and compellingly share of the message of Jesus with Muslims who matter massively to God. Read it for encouragement. Read it for clarity. Read it to deepen your compassion and increase your spiritual confidence. Just be sure to read it!' * Mark Mittelberg, author of the new Contagious Faith book and training course, and Executive Director of the Lee Strobel Center for Evangelism and Applied Apologetics (StrobelCenter.com) *'Fouad Masri uses his unique platform to address what many of us consider a unique audience--but in reality the religion he masterfully addresses and counters represents one of the world's largest followings.' * Jerry Pattengale, founding scholar of Museum of the Bible (DC), University Professor, Indiana Wesleyan University, and author of forthcoming book The New Book of Christian Martyrs *'In this book you will come across not only academic material but practical, simple ways to reach Muslims with the Gospel. I read this book more than once and was amazed to see how Fouad takes us on a journey through different parts of the world and different situations--with testimonies of Muslims responding to the Lord Jesus. I also appreciated his focus on the Word of God as the main source in our witness to Muslim friends. The book not only gives us practical ways to reach Muslim friends, but also reminds us of our responsibility to care for them once they have come to Christ.' * Dr. Samuel Naaman, Professor of Intercultural Studies, Director of MBI Missions Conference, Moody Bible Institute *'Since 1993 there has been a 'voice in the wilderness' with a focused clarion call to Christ followers. Fouad Masri has consistently called the Church to the mission of looking beyond one's personal boundaries and biases to share the hope of Jesus with Muslims personally and relationally. This book is unique to all other of his writings in this: There has not in recent history been a time when the role of Jesus has been more misunderstood and vague. The bottom line of what we are called to share with Muslims, touted creatively in this writing, is Jesus. All the cups of coffee, iftar gifts, and friendship building are meaningless unless Christ Jesus is made real through us to our Muslim neighbor. This book challenges the reader beyond fascination toward personalization of the Gospel.' * Steve Helm, Executive Director of Crescent Project and pioneer in developing sustainable "business as mission" enterprise solutions in over nine countries *'Who better than Fouad Masri to give the Church a tutorial on reaching Muslims for Jesus Christ? I can think of no one. In this book, Brother Fouad lets you into his world, his years of sharing his life and love for the Lord Jesus Christ with countless Muslim men and women. As you walk with him, you too will gain confidence to obey our Lord's commission to make disciples of all nations, including the Muslim ones.' * Dr. David Garrison, Missionary author, A Wind in the House of Islam, Executive Director, Global Gates *Table of ContentsPART 1: WHY SHARE WITH MUSLIMS? Zondervan Think Christianly
Book SynopsisThink Christianly is about seizing the opportunities we have every day to speak the life Jesus offers into our culture. Tragically, many such opportunities pass us by unclaimed—either because we don’t notice them or we have not prepared ourselves to enter into them. And those around us seem to grow increasingly unwilling to hear anything the church has to say. Jonathan Morrow helps church leaders envision and implement ways for their congregations to “think Christianly” about contemporary questions and to speak in informed, engaging ways. Morrow explores many of the important issues that Christians often hear raised with regard to faith—questions about who Jesus was, the good and bad of religion, pain and evil in the world, the reliability of the Bible, sexuality and intimate relationships, and hope for change, among others. The life and faith issues that Think Christianly addresses lead to cultural moments where Christianity and contemporary culture in

SCM Press Remixing the Church Towards an Emerging Ecclesiology
Book SynopsisDoug Gay seeks to identify and evaluate what goes on in the emerging church and how it relates to other developments of the twentieth and twenty-first century church.Trade Review'A readable and accessible book, this is a welcome addition to the ongoing debate [around the Emerging Church] and a step towards understanding how emerging ecclesiology may take shape ... No doubt Gay's work will aid reflection of how an ecclesiology may be formed.' -- Simon Edwards, Wesley House, CambridgeThere can be little doubt that church attendance is in decline and over the past two decades in the UK significant resources have been invested in attempts to reverse this steady loss of people and indeed morale. Strategies, experiments with the development of leadership and management, imaginative programs for young people, a streamlining and cutting away waste have all been part of the church that prefers to talk about Mission rather than Ministry. This is a creative, well-organized, sometimes dense, but always intellectually robust book from a practical theologian concerned with theological practice from within the church. The reader is reminded how the church rarely ever stands still and is often dynamic in its embrace of change. The metaphor of emergence is explored through five motifs of auditing, retrieval, and unbundling, supplementing and remixing. The framework here is shaped by the disciplines of liturgy, ecclesiology, mission, and congregational studies. Gay manages to write and reflect in an integrated way. There are two key strengths to this book. The first is the authors embedded experience of what is described as the emerging church. He is able to reflect on this experience skilfully and theologically. He draws upon the Christian tradition and in doing so offers honesty, integrity and some integration of theory and practice. This is a key strength absent in the other writings about the future direction of the Church. The book may have been more comprehensive if it had engaged with those who have critiqued the emerging church. Further discussion about the relationship between the UK and USA dimensions might have put some of the discussion into a wider social and cultural perspective. Gay has established himself as a practical theologian of some skill and tenacity. We should look forward to further emerging writing and reflection from his head and heart. -- James Woodward"Gay's book lays out a clear five-point strategy for shaping his own part of the body of Christ for the future: auditing, retrieving, unbundling, supplementing, and remixing." -- Rev Andrew Petiprin * The Living Church *

Book SynopsisPresents an introduction to mission studies - the history, theology and issues of mission. This book also offers a theological framework for mission, which applies both globally and locally, to help the reader discern the movement of the Spirit of Christ among the many other spirits of this world.Trade ReviewKirsteen Kim's lively study is both accessible and scholarly. This book affirms mission as the work of the Spirit and, rejecting traditional Euro-centric approaches, insists that local mission is most effectively viewed through the lens of the world church. The joy of this book is that the reader is introduced to fresh voices not usually heard in such studies: the challenge is responding to them.
