Book SynopsisThis book presents various theories and algorithms to create a quantum computer. The concept of the classical and quantum computers, and the concept of circuits and gates are reviewed. The example of the Deutsch and the Deutsch-Josca algorithm is discussed to illustrate some key features of quantum computing. The Grover algorithm, considered to be of major milestone of the subject, is discussed in detail to exemplify the techniques used in computer algorithms. The role of quantum superposition (also called quantum parallelism) and of quantum entanglement is discussed in order to understand the key advantages of a quantum over a classical computer.Table of Contents1 Introduction 2 Classical Computer 2.1 Binary Representation 3 Quantum Computer 3.1 Qubit 4 Classical Gates and Circuits 5 Quantum Gates and Circuits 5.1 Hilbert space 5.2 Measurement 6 Deutsch Algorithm 7 Grover Algorithm 7.1 Grover algorithm: two-qubit 7.2 Grover algorithm: n-qubit 7.3 Grover diffusion and rotation gate G 7.4 Single Recursion: Two qubit 8 Deutsch-Josza Algorithm 9 Simon’s Algorithm 9.1 Quantum Algorithm 9.2 An Illustrative Example 10 Quantum Fourier Transform (QFT) 51 10.1 Quantum circuit of QFT 11 Shor 11.1 Introduction 11.2 Understanding the classical algorithm 11.3 Quantum algorithm 12 Option Pricing 12.1 Quantum Algorithm for Option Pricing 12.2 Quadratic Improvement 12.3 Estimation of Phase 12.4 Call Option 13 Solving Linear Equations 13.1 Introduction 13.2 Harrow-Hassidim-Lloyd Algorithm 13.3 Specific Example 13.4 Other applications 14 Quantum-Classical Hybrid Algorithms 14.1 Why bother? 14.2 Overlap of Wavefunctions 14.3 Variational Quantum Eigensolvers 15 Quantum Error Correction 15.1 Introduction 15.2 Simple quantum errors 15.3 Kraus Operators 15.4 Nine-qubit Code 15.5 General properties of quantum error-correcting codes 15.6 Classical Linear Codes 15.7 CSS Codes 16 Efficiency of a Quantum Computer 16.1 So where does quantum computation take place? 16.2 Conclusions 16.3 Acknowledgements

  • Qbism The Future of Quantum Physics

Harvard University Press Qbism The Future of Quantum Physics

    3 in stock

Book SynopsisShort for Quantum Bayesianism, QBism adapts conventional features of quantum mechanics in light of a revised understanding of probability. Using commonsense language, without the equations or weirdness of conventional quantum theory, Hans Christian von Baeyer clarifies the meaning of quantum mechanics and suggests a new approach to general physics.Trade ReviewHans Christian von Baeyer has done a wonderful job with this book. I’ve been fortunate enough to learn QBism twice in my life. The first time, it was the hard way, as colleagues and I battled out every nuance of the forming theory, always testing and retesting, tearing down and reconstructing—we had to turn our world upside down to get there. But the second time was pure pleasure as I learned the subject afresh from Professor von Baeyer’s masterful articulation of it. So many of his turns of phrase are insightful gems I never could have formulated myself. Now for the first time I believe I know how to teach the subject, and there is no better understanding one can have than that! -- Christopher A. Fuchs, Professor of Physics, University of Massachusetts Boston, and key architect of QBismPhysicists all agree on how to do calculations using quantum mechanics and disagree markedly on what those calculations really mean. With his customary humor and elegance, Professor von Baeyer walks us through one of the more recent attempts to understand the mysterious world inside the atom. -- James Trefil, Professor of Physics, George Mason University, and the author of Science in World HistoryQBism remains controversial, but scientifically inclined readers will share von Baeyer’s enthusiasm and come away with a feeling, if not a deep understanding, of quantum phenomena that doesn’t require suspension of disbelief. * Kirkus Reviews *Von Baeyer offers a sensible approach to this seemingly esoteric world…He has an enthusiastic presentation and style that sweeps the reader along into the world of quantum physics and makes sense of it. -- Ralph Peterson * Manhattan Book Review *QBism should be applauded as a breeding ground of ideas for multiple disciplines including physics, philosophy, and mathematics, and von Baeyer’s book offers an account accessible to all…[It] provide[s] an outstanding introduction to two of the key components of QBism (quantum theory and subjective Bayesianism), and places the reader into the mind of the QBist in a way that will aid the ongoing debate over its merit. It is a worthwhile read. -- Kelvin J. McQueen * Quantum Times *

  • Morgan Jones Publishing On Reality

Book SynopsisWhy do we observe phenomena that necessitate indeterminacy prior to observation? Why don't we notice quantum phenomena at scales similar to our own? How can we intuitively understand entanglement without hidden variables or faster-than-light communication? ‘On Reality’ represents an endeavour to answer these questions via a unification of quantum mechanics with Einstein’s theory of special relativity. It provides an intuitive explanation for quantum superposition as a consequence of quantum entanglement, and of quantum entanglement as a consequence of Descartes’ first principle. The resultant theory clarifies the hand-waving explanations of quantum mechanics that have dominated the past century and provides a clear philosophy that may act as a framework for future scientific investigations.

Table of ContentsEinleitung.- 1. Out of stock

Table of Contents1.

  • World Scientific Publishing Company Lectures on Quantum Mechanics Second Edition in 3

    Out of stock

Book SynopsisNote: *The three volumes are not sequential but rather independent of each other and largely self-contained.Basic Matters is a first introduction to quantum mechanics that does not assume any prior knowledge of the subject. The emphasis is on the general structure as the necessary foundation of any understanding. Starting from the simplest quantum phenomenon, the Stern-Gerlach experiment with its choice between two discrete outcomes, and ending with one-dimensional continuous systems, the physical concepts and notions as well as the mathematical formalism of quantum mechanics are developed in successive, manageable steps. The presentation is modern inasmuch as the natural language of the trade Dirac's kets and bras and so on is introduced early, and the temporal evolution is dealt with in a picture-free manner, with Schrödinger's and Heisenberg's equations of motion side by side and on equal footing. The reader of Simple Systems is not expected to be familiar with the material in Basic Matters, but should have the minimal knowledge of a standard brief introduction to quantum mechanics with its typical emphasis on one-dimensional position wave functions. The step to Dirac's more abstract and much more powerful formalism is taken immediately, followed by reviews of quantum kinematics and quantum dynamics. The important standard examples (force-free motion, constant force, harmonic oscillator, hydrogen-like atoms) are then treated in considerable detail, whereby a nonstandard perspective is offered wherever it is deemed feasible and useful. A final chapter is devoted to approximation methods, from the Hellmann-Feynman theorem to the WKB quantization rule.Perturbed Evolution has a closer link to Simple Systems than it has to Basic Matters, but any reader familiar with the subject matter of a solid introduction to quantum mechanics such as Dirac's formalism of kets and bras, Schrödinger's and Heisenberg's equations of motion, and the standard examples that can be treated exactly, with harmonic oscillators and hydrogen-like atoms among them can cope with the somewhat advanced material of this volume. The basics of kinematics and dynamics are reviewed at the outset, including discussions of Bohr's principle of complementarity and Schwinger's quantum action principle. The Born series, the Lippmann-Schwinger equation, and Fermi's golden rule are recurring themes in the treatment of the central subject matter the evolution in the presence of perturbing interactions for which there are no exact solutions as one has them for the standard examples in Simple Systems. The scattering by a localized potential is regarded as a perturbed evolution of a particular kind and is dealt with accordingly. The unique features of the scattering of indistinguishable quantum objects illustrate the nonclassical properties of bosons and fermions and prepare the groundwork for a discussion of multi-electron atoms.
