  • Agricultural Supply Chain Management Research:

Springer Nature Switzerland AG Agricultural Supply Chain Management Research:

    3 in stock

Book SynopsisThis book focuses on three essential elements of agricultural supply chains: Planting and Growing, Processing and Selling, and Government Interventions. For decades, most agricultural economists applied macro-economic theory in decisions pertaining to the optimization of food production and distribution. However, few researchers used micro-economic theory to examine how individual farmers respond to market information, incentive pricing mechanisms and different market structures in the trade of agricultural goods. Examining challenges in agricultural supply chain operations through the lens of micro-economic theory is imperative because it can enable policymakers and social enterprises to develop and design market information provision policy, incentive contracts and market structures for improving farmer and consumer welfare. In each chapter, contributing authors motivate their research questions by providing the context and articulating the importance of their questions. They present their analysis to examine the respective research questions and explain their results. At the end of each chapter, they provide a short list of future research questions.Table of ContentsPart A: Planting and Growing.- Chapter 1: Dynamic Crop Allocation in the Presence of Two-Season Crop Rotation Benefits.- Chapter 2: Agricultural Production Planning under Yield-Dependent Cost and Price.- Chapter 3: Mechanisms for Effective Sharing of Agricultural Water Between Head-Reach and Tail-End Farms.- Chapter 4: Portfolio Management Issues in the Commercial Seed Industry: A Modeling Framework and Industry Implementation.- Part B: Processing and Selling.- Chapter 5: Procurement Management in Agricultural Commodity Processing.- Chapter 6: The Influence of Yield-Dependent Trading Costs on Pricing and Production Planning under Supply Uncertainty.- Chapter 7: Capacity Management in Agricultural Commodity Processing.- Chapter 8: A Prescriptive Model for Selling Wine Futures to Mitigate Quality Uncertainty.- Chapter 9: Wine Analytics: Futures or Bottles.- Part C: Government Interventions.- Chapter 10: Implications of Farmer Information Provision Policies: Heterogeneous Farmers and Market Selection.- Chapter 11: Agricultural Market Information: Economic Value and Provision Policy.- Chapter 12: Knowledge Sharing among Smallholders in Developing Economies.- Chapter 13: Policy Interventions for an Agriculture-Based Malaria Medicine Supply Chain.- Chapter 14: The Impact of Crop Minimum Support Price on Crop Production and Farmer Welfare.- Chapter 15: Input- vs. Output-Based Farm Subsidies in Developing Economies: Farmer Welfare and Income Inequality.

  • The Healthcare Value Chain: Demystifying the Role

Springer International Publishing AG The Healthcare Value Chain: Demystifying the Role

    3 in stock

Book SynopsisThis volume analyzes group purchasing organizations (GPOs) and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) in order to better understand the significant roles that these entities play in the healthcare supply chain. It examines who they contract with, on what terms, and who they represent and answer to while charting their historical development. The analysis reveals that the current roles of both players have historical roots that explain why they behave the way they do. Finally, the book reviews the evidence base on the performance results of these two players. This work fills a void in our understanding about two important and controversial players in the healthcare value chain. Both organizations are cloaked in secrecy — partly by virtue of the private sector contracts they negotiate, partly by virtue of the lack of academic attention. Both play potentially important roles in controlling healthcare costs, albeit using contracting strategies and reimbursement mechanisms that arouse suspicion among stakeholders. This timely text explicates how these organizations arose and evolved to shed more light on how they really operate. Trade Review“Throughout the book, Burns does a nice job ... summaries which still apply today. ... this is an impressive text that will guide readers through the evolution of these two critically important but often under-recognized industries.” (Kevin A. Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG Digitalisierung der Geschäftsreise: Tipps und

• Unravelling Supply Chain Networks of Fisheries in

Springer Verlag, Singapore Unravelling Supply Chain Networks of Fisheries in

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisThis book on the fisheries sector in India, through primary surveys as well as secondary literature, brings out various nuances of the sector and its trade opportunities, the complexities surrounding the supply chain of fish, as well as the evolution of its marketing channels. A distinctive feature of this book is that it carries out a comprehensive mapping of the fisheries supply chain, by taking into account both marine and freshwater fish. It identifies various players, especially traders who take part in the product flow, irrespective of the impact each of them has on the value provided to the end customer. While members of the supply chain include all individuals or organisations between whom interaction takes place, directly or indirectly from the point of production to consumption, this study also distinguishes between primary and peripheral members to make a complex network more manageable. Moreover, the book provides a comprehensive analysis of the emerging marketing channels- both organised and unorganised- in this highly perishable food segment. It provides important insights into the current scenario, focusing on the emergence of newer forms of marketing such as multinationals and e-retailing, while highlighting how traditional forms such as ‘mom-and-pop’ shops have continued to sustain, despite the challenges they face. The findings from India are also compared to global experiences of other fish producing and exporting countries such as Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Thailand to offer a comparison of the differences and similarities in the supply chains of various countries. The book provides important takeaways for researchers and PhD scholars working in the area of fisheries as well as supply chains. Since this book is based on field visits to different parts of the country it brings out the ground realities along with interesting insights and important policy implications for the sector, and should, therefore, appeal to policymakers as well.Table of ContentsIntroduction.- A Brief Review of Literature- International and Indian.- Fisheries Sector in India - An Overview.- International Trade in Fisheries: India and its Global Partners.- Study Area and Methodology.

  • Springer Verlag, Singapore Supply Chain Integration for Sustainable Advantages

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisThis book offers a systematic literature review and a set of empirical studies on supply chain integration. Supply chain management is recognized as an essential means for firms to achieve competitive advantages, in which supply chain integration is regarded as the core for operational excellence: shorter lead time, lower inventory, faster delivery, and higher product and service quality. Using data from an international survey of manufacturing firms, an interrelated set of studies that investigate supply chain integration from different perspectives at multiple levels are conducted. Intra-organizational factors such as products, production systems, and socio-technical systems are examined to understand their effects on supply chain integration, indicating that firms need to implement different types of supply chain integration for specific competitive priorities. Then, the outcomes of supply chain integration, including its impact on risk management and sustainability management, are investigated from an inter-organizational perspective. The firm is embedded in a manufacturing network, a global supply chain, or both, and it can use supply chain integration as a strategic action for risks. Sustainability has been a vital issue for manufacturers, and supply chain integration can enhance its success. This book makes significant contributions to the relevant literature on supply chain integration and offers insights to supply chain managers in manufacturing industries. Book SynopsisThis book reports the latest business practices, operations models, technologies and circular supply chain structure of the fast fashion companies and provides many important managerial insights on the sustainable operations management in the fast fashion era. Sustainability is a timely topic in both the academia and the business world. In the fast fashion era, there are considerable criticisms about its environmental pollution generated in the manufacturing and post-consumption processes. Over the past decades, many fast fashion companies, such as H&M, Zara, and Uniqlo, have implemented different sustainable programs to mitigate the negative impacts to the environment. Nowadays, the industry is moving one step further by addressing zero landfill through 3Rs principle (i.e., reducing, reusing and recycling), and pursuit of the circular supply chains. This book aims to reveal the exploratory, qualitative empirical and quantitative analytical studies on how to achieve the goal of being environmentally sustainable in the fast fashion era.Table of ContentsPart I Introduction and Exploratory Studies.- 1 Sustainable Operations Management in Fast Fashion Era: An Introduction (Hau-Ling Chan, Shuyun Ren and Na Liu).- 2 Sustainability in Fast Fashion Era: The Jan ‘N June Case (Daniela Candeloro).- 3 Sustainable Practices in Fast Fashion (Na Liu and Fengling Xie).- Part II Intelligent Fast Fashion Demand Forecasting.- 4 Fast Fashion Demand Forecasting Models: A Comparative Study (Yu Xiong and Lei Lin).- 5 Impact of Search Index on Fashion Demand Forecasting- Panel Data Based Analysis (Zhicheng He, Xiong Yu and Shuyun Ren).- Part III Theoretical Modelling Research, Reviews, and Research Agenda.- 6 Optimal Pricing, Green Advertising Effort and Advanced Technology Investment in Sustainable Fashion Supply Chain Management (Hau-Ling Chan, Shun-Mun Wong and Ka-Man Sum).- 7 The Multi-Methodological Approach for Sustainable Operations Management in Fashion (Tsan-Ming Choi).- 8 Overview and Research Agenda for Sustainable Operations Management in Fast Fashion Era (Hau-Ling Chan, Shuyun Ren and Na Liu).

  • Preparing for a Sustainable Future

Springer Verlag, Singapore Preparing for a Sustainable Future

    15 in stock

Book SynopsisThe term sustainability has become one of the most significant in the current era. It seems to be ubiquitous amongst academics, politicians, business leaders, media personnel and even the general public. It is no exaggeration to state that it is considered all over the world to be the most pressing issue to be addressed for the long-term future of the planet and its inhabitants. The topic is of course complex, and the issue of sustainability is under much debate as to what it actually is and how it can be achieved, but it is completely certain that the resources of the planet are fixed in quantity and, once used, cannot be reused except through being reused in one form or another. At present, much of the discourse of sustainability has focused upon the environment and in particular upon climate change and the effects that this is having. Thus, the discourse has tended to be about mitigation.Sustainability of course requires all three pillars of the triple bottom line—economic, environmental and social—to be addressed. Indeed, it might be considered that the effects upon the social, and how we choose to live our lives, might well be the most profound effect of achieving sustainability. This book therefore focuses upon some of the many aspects of the social and how we can adapt our lives to accommodate the requirements of sustainability. it therefore takes a very different approach to addressing the issues of sustainability, while of course not ignoring the other pillars. This book therefore sets out to examine various aspects of the changes to personal, corporate and institutional behaviour which may have to come about in our search for sustainability. It is tended to address some of the issues and how they are being dealt with in various parts of the world. As always, our concept is to share best practice and thereby enrich both the discourse and our progress towards sustainability. Thus, we focus upon the current situation while also considering the extent to which the focus is changing so much that we need to think about new approaches to our understanding of behaviour and differing effects in practice. The international origins of the contributors to this book make this an original contribution taking some of the best ideas from around the world. This book therefore addresses these issues from a perspective not generally addressed by researchers, or even by politicians and the press. It therefore provides fresh perspectives upon the important issue of our common future. As always, this approach is based on the tradition of the Social Responsibility Research Network srrnet.org (a worldwide body of scholars with membership of several thousand), which in its 20-year history has sought to broaden the discourse and to treat all research as inter-related and relevant to business. This tradition has always been to explore the subject widely and to seek relevant solutions, while also sharing best practice. This book is based primarily upon some of the contributions from the network at our recent conference and shows both commonality and diversity in approaches and effects.Table of ContentsPart 1 Changing practice: 1. This book offers a refreshing overview of the discipline, incorporating the latest challenges facing operational managers today that will surely be of invaluable use to students." — Thierry Burger-Helmchen, Faculty of Economics & Management, EM Business School, University of Strasbourg, France"Using a clear and concise style, this book provides a comprehensive and contemporary introduction to operations and supply chain management. The case studies at the beginning of each chapter and at the end of the book are excellent and help bringing to life the concepts and the techniques explained in the book." — Dr Riccardo Mogre, Associate Professor in Operations Management, Durham University Business School, University of Durham, UK"Operations Management for Business Excellence is a highly accessible text that draws upon both international and local (Australasian) case examples. It contains simple, practical models for planning, designing, managing and improving operations in businesses of all sizes and specialisms, and avoids unnecessary mathematical statistical complexity. I highly recommend this text at undergraduate and postgraduate / MBA level." — Dr Nigel Grigg, Professor of Quality Systems, Centre for Quality and Supply Chain Management, Massey University, New Zealand"This book presents traditional and updated OSCM models and practices (including robotics and sustainability) in plain language without surrendering academic rigor, supported by rich case studies from the renowned corporations and discussion questions with an engaging fashion. I think this approach will make this book very appropriate for OSCM teaching and the exploration of ‘excellence’ for business practitioners." — Jason X.
